Catching a killer is a piece of cake... Or is it? When socialite Celeste Rocheford is murdered, Mindy’s best friend Beth Miller finds herself the prime suspect.
Mindy must prove Beth's innocence and find the real killer – while dealing with her meddling high-school nemesis, Neve, and her former flame, Ethan Macaulay.

Out of all 3 books in this series I've read so far this one was my favorite. The main reason being that Neve was hardly in it. The less she's in it the better. Yet again the mystery was nice. I wasn't able to figure out who did it. I would recommend these books to someone who is looking for a read that is quick and fun.
This is a book in a series that I was asked to review. Not impressed. You have Mindy who is a failed Hollywood screen writer who moves back home. You have Beth who is genius off the charts who leaves college to become an online seller for cakes. Both Mindy and Beth start investigating murders and of course they act like they are 14 years old and petty high school relationships seem to really be the theme of these books. Of course they are "working" with the police department and they always seem to be 10 steps ahead of trained professionals. This review will be used for all 3 books as in all honestly this is the whole premise of all 3.
There was a major typo beginning of Chapter 18: "The next morning, Neve and I had just finished our breakfast of leftover chocolate lava cake and steaming hot coffee," this threw me totally off. Major character blunder! I got tired of Neve in the beginning chapters and hoped her character was going to murdered. I normally don't take a star point off for typos but this was more than a typo Beth got character assassinated ouch & we all like Beth & she makes cakes!
Found this book over with too quickly. This is the second book in the Piece of Cake series & I’m enjoying getting to know these characters (I have enjoyed reading other A.R.Winters series such as Tiffany Black). Good light hearted fun read and I’m looking forward to see where the characters in this series go!
Multiple instances of the wrong name being used, repeatedly screwing saith the flow of the story. The actual mystery was secret, but dropping big person details (father lost at 16) out of nowhere isn't the away to go.
I was a little disappointed with the storyline. I really liked another series this writer created. I am hoping that the next one is better quality than this one. I do like the two women and the detective. Definitely room for improvement.
Book two and hooked already if you love a great cozy with character you will love and a story that will keep you turning the page then A R Winters books are for you
A very intriguing plot with a few twists! Nice to see female leads that can take care of themselves & don’t need rescuing by a man. Easy & breezy - a nice summer read.
Easy to read. Maybe easier than the first one —- simple relationship among the suspects, plain English to describe the situation, and every character has his/her own strong personality, which means that even non-native like me can enjoy reading it. The most attractive part is, however, not the murder but the conversation between Mindy and her ex. They really seem to like each other. And the ambiguity of their relationship will make me to read the next book soon.
Another cute entry in Winters' series of Cake-baker books. I enjoy the characters of Mindy & Beth, and it is fun to follow their investigative trail. These books are clean and short and really cute, and I do not hesitate to recommend them to just about anyone, maybe 12 and up, just to put an age on them. They are really non-offensive, which is rare, and nice.
I really like how quick it is to read these novellas. They are rapidly progressing mysteries. Beth is accused of murder in this story because the woman who had previously given her a one-star review is found dead in the bathtub with a slice of cake and glass of wine. The new detective is dead set on pinning the murder on Beth, so Mindy vows to find out the truth. Along the way, she has took deal with her nemesis, Neve, who is now working alongside Mindy's ex, the newest addition to the DA's office. How was Mindy's dinner with Ethan? Will Beth wind up in jail? Who killed Celeste? Will Mindy find out before she's killed?
I'm off to read the next book in the series, Jazzy Jeopardy!
I really enjoyed this book - it's a fun cozy mystery with engaging and entertaining characters. If focuses on two friends, one with an on-line bakery, that investigate crimes. The police think they're nosy and in the way, but when one of them is arrested, their investigation is even more important. Fans of cozy mysteries and/or chick lit will love this book.
Mindy is back and needs to help her friend, and fellow investigator Beth, after she is arrested for murder. All the same characters are back, and more amusing antics ensue. Another great addition to the series.
