A brilliant book that is part marketing, part poetry, and part Pink Floyd album cover. In other words, it makes you think. Mostly about the psychology and philosophy of branding and image. Branding and image of products to consumers. Mostly. But as the title says, "YOU" are a message as well.
This book would be great for indie startups that haven't started up yet. Plenty of brain candy here for marketing execs, and I'd fully expect them to buy copies for their entire marketing dept as a holiday "bonus."
This book is full of obvious good advice and self-fulfilling prophecies, some of it is thought- provoking and potentially helpful..... the author references fifty or more writers visionaries or businesspeople, all of them men. I think all white men to although I don't plan on looking them all up. it's one thing to have a majority but every single person who seems to have ever influence this man is a Matt in a book about creativity. Okay
Written in short tips, You are a Message follows in the format of You are a Circle. For those needing a optimistic push when considering one's business or brand, this book will provide tidbits to think over in a philosophically creative manner.
Sometimes you fall into routines of life. This is dangerous for creatives. This book asks powerful questions to help disrupt monotonous thinking and ultimately spark ideas.
Loved this book. Part business/ creative/ marketing/ branding in a fun format. Full of well written advices and thoughts. I have in my office and just flip through when I need inspiration.
“Find two opposites. Then, create a strange hybrid of both. Next, imagine the opposite of that." “If you’re weird, that might be a problem. If you’re weird and smart, that might be an asset. If you’re weird, smart, and understand culture, that’s great." “If your life were an experiment, in what way could you be helping others?”
I can't say how absolutely perfect this packet of meditations is. A great read and so packed with inspiration. It could easily take an afternoon to read all of the inscriptions, yet took me a year to chew on each statement and fully digest. A great bedside read or something to keep in the upper desk drawer.
