This was awful. Right from the get-go, the author aims it at young women and continues to refer to only female readers as old-time, stereotypical keepers of the social obligations and common courtesies. This was published in 2008 and then again in 2015 and yet it sounds like it was written in the 1940s. Based on the title and description I assumed it was a guide for anyone to show more gratitude in thank-you notes. Apparently only women are encouraged to do that...I do not recommend!
A wonderful resource; a must buy for the etiquette inclined! Examples of every kind of thank you note on may write (or perhaps should be writting). This book will be finding a well loved spot snuggled up next to Emily Post on my reference shelf.
Browne gives advice on the proper etiquette and manners on thank you's, most of which I had really no clue. Very useful for those that are unaccustomed to the etiquette of our society.
A quick yet very enjoyable and engaging read! I will definitely be coming back to this book for tips when I need to write a thank you note of any kind!
Reason why I picked it up was because I was curious on the number of ways to say thank you. I enjoyed the quotes that are displayed per chapter as well as the templates and scenarios in which one can use when wanting to write thanks.
I did want to make a note for anyone possible interested, it was written in a way that conveys this information is meant for women specifically and has some undertones that can rub someone the wrong way. I was caught off guard by it if I'm being honest and I had to pause a few times as I was confused on context for some things written in the book...It mentions online etiquette and email formats( which is very useful for current work culture) but undertones and context are very old school thinking on women? I finished the book mostly to learn about different formatting for thank you cards and in that regard the book was quite informative.
5 stars for being informative with user cases and templates. I don't think I'd be reading it again though since it was a bit hard to digest certain things as it seemed a bit off putting with some stereotypes so I'd give it 3 stars overall as it was not as enjoyable as I hoped.
Knowing how to write thank you notes for all occasions is a quintessential life skill. This book is useful especially if one is under stress or pressure or is simply at a loss for words as to how to thank someone. It would be a great gift, along with customized note cards, for a high school or college graduate. It is never to late to thank someone and this book gently and effectively makes this point.
SUCH a helpful book! From basic thank you notes to 100+ wedding thank you notes, my mom gave me this book before I graduated college and I have used it for everything in between. And now my husband uses it too and is so grateful for this simple tool.
Quick and easy read. I will mainly use the book for reference. Gives a lot of good examples of ways to say thank you in every situation, including both professional and personal.
