Not all fantasies are safe, sane, and consensual. Welcome to the world of The Gallery…

Juliet meets Fort St. Clair on a miserable, drunken night, and wakes up the next morning cuffed to his guest room bed. Of course, Fort would never take advantage of her. No, the pleasure and pain he wants to inflict on her body must be negotiated in advance, because once Juliet sets foot in his private, exclusive dungeon, she belongs to him.

BDSM at The Gallery is supposed to be a straightforward arrangement, an affair by the rules, but Juliet and Fort’s growing connection brings unexpected emotions they can’t control. She’s the free spirit who transforms his rigid world, and he’s the Dominant she can finally trust—or can she?

 photo domination_zpsprf6tllz.jpg

Juliet/Jules didn't make a fantastic first impression on Fort/Forsyth St Clair, she was standing outside a seedy kink club on the verge of passing out wearing a cheap collar. But something about her had fort giving up his Friday night to take care of her. Jules gets a hell of a rude shock when she wakes up the next morning handcuffed to a strangers bed.

I fell for Fort straight away, he was REAL. His mannerisms and inner dialogue were a perfect mix of Alpha dominant and genuine nice guy. Fort works in his family's jewelry business, drives a flash car and lives in a beautiful penthouse and is worth millions. Not going to lie, this helps with his appeal.

Jules 34 works for a famous and eccentric artist named Goodluck Boundless, he is a crack up and I loved all their interactions. Jules has vowed to get out of the BDSM lifestyle after her last few failed relationships with Dom-whores but she can't stop thinking about Fort.

 photo feet_zpsrzcygesa.gif

Fort is having the same problem, he is fascinated by Juliet and comes up with a plan to see her again through a business deal, unfortunately it all goes a bit pear shaped. Fort is into a much heavier form of BDSM called consensual non-consent with no safe words and he wants complete control, he thinks Jules isn't emotionally strong enough but they give it a go anyway.

 photo jules_zpsryh95xmv.jpg

Their first few 'scenes' are at Forts penthouse and boy are they full on, these scenes are no joke yes they are hot but they are dark also. Things change fast though when Fort introduces Jules to his private club.

What Fort does to Jules at the end was just plain nasty and I hated him for it, poor Jules that would have been humiliated. I'm not sure I could forgive that, he is hard to hate though.
I'd punished her because she made me feel something real, something deep and overwhelming.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys BDSM books and wants a different take on it.

descriptionPretty good cover on this one. A good representation of the story. Great composition and title work as well. Not a fan of how large the author's name is, but overall a pretty decent cover job.description

descriptionI enjoyed this one a lot. I am partial to a good sadist, and this one had that in spades. Some of the scenes even had me cringing. This was a somewhat angsty read, and I can't say I warmed up to Fort until right at the end. And Juliet forgave him WAY too quickly considering the stunt he pulled was not only hurtful but extremely dangerous. I also have to add that I LOATHED Devin for most of the book, but boy did he step up to the plate at the end. So now I am crazy excited to read his book as well as Milo's.

description

So deets...I found this book to be well written and well paced. The plot was interesting. No OW/OM drama. Although there is a bit of light sharing involved and the hero gets a BJ after meeting the heroine but before they are together. The hero does say that they are not exclusive once they get together but it was my interpretation that he wasn't with anyone after he and heroine began a sexual relationship. The consensual non-consent sex scenes were hot. Although I do wish we would have gotten a few less rigid sex scenes. I think a few softer scenes would have helped me feel a deeper connection between these two. Until right near the end I was feeling like this book was more sex and less romance. Which I think hindered me from buying into Fort's about face with his feelings. The secondary characters were intriguing, and as I mentioned above, I am very much looking forward to their books. The ending felt a bit rushed, but since we will see this couple in upcoming books, I wasn't too bothered by that.

Like I said I enjoyed it, so this one gets two thumbs up from yours truly.description

So...*clearing her throat*

I took upon this story cause of a challenge Big Bad Shhlut 2018 reading challenge
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... I took participation in...out of, well, challenge LOL

and well, one of the prompts/tasks is to read a book with BDSM or kinky fuckery

well, this being my first encounter with the works of Annabel Joseph, I went in purely based on the title, cause well, dark and control BUT in this book it was mostly about the dominance, excrutiating dominance, based on sadism and its supplementary simbiotic recipent - masochism
cause, they can't go one without the other, otherwise it would be a pure violence in question, therefore, there would be totally different side effects...

but I'm digressing here, so I'll just get to the point, about the book

despite of me being totally "cold and put off" by this level of BDSM world, or more specific the SM (sado-maso) part of the word LOL, I don't mind a light display of bondage and dominance in books, only, I found the story seriously lacking the most important segment needed in BDSM world - TRUST.
Even though, the characters explicitly talk about trust before the very deeds, through out the whole story I never once felt the gaining trust.

The female character Juliet Pope , is a submissive working for an eccentric artist/photographer and has just fell out of the bad relationship with a Dom, who used her. That very night of her break up, she got drunk and was taken care of by a stranger. She woke up handcuffed by the bed and in this stranger's bedroom. After the awkwardness, she excuses herself and leaves acknowledging to herself that she needs to stay away from these kind of situations and asshole men (Doms).

But as it may be, the business side brings her back on the path of that very stranger - Forsyth St. Clair/Fort, a businessman, playboy, an heir of Sinclair jewelry empire, and well, take a guess - a Dom (and the worst kind, too LOL, nah, kidding *wink*)
I'm a Dominant, but it's more accurate to call me a sexual saditst. I like to hurt women and force them to do things for my pleasure. It's how I prefer to get off.

I do BDSM for the rush and release. I like to push boundaries, and hang out with other people who like to push boundaries.

And well, it just happens, Fort has this inexplicable need to PUSH little flutter-shy submissive Juliet.

and voila, match made in heaven, cause it turns out that Juliet has a masochistic streak in her, as a part of her natural submissivness...and she wears all her emotions on her sleeve, it's written all over her face and that's also one of the reasons she's so appealing to Fort. Cause well, he's a sadist and he would love to see how she would break under his hand, and all she needs to do is now to let go and explore this new discovered maso side to her...and to give her consent to give up consent for the duration of the interactions.

And well, that's where I drew my line of "what-the-ever-loving-fuck" , it's all just a fancy camouflage for beating a woman up for the selfish release., *sigh* no, well, I've said it wrong (and, I apologize if it sounds offensive to all those practising this lifestyle, which was not my intention, to start with BUT I merely am pointing out the impression I got from reading explanations given by the main character - who is a sadist, in fact, in general, i don't really care what rocks your boat, I wish world peace LOL and to each their own...and all that!)
I'm into capriciously hurting you because it's unfair, and because you'll let me do it anyway. I'm into reducing you to a sex object, and sometimes sharing you with my friends. I'm into bruises and welts on a regular basis, marks you'll wear like a uniform because I want you to. But I'm mostly into tears, Juliet, and tormenting you.

I want to do all kinds of perverse, painful, lustful things to you, but it will be pure power exchange. That's it. I can't give you love and forever after. It wouldn't be a romance.

Dominating and hurting someone is a tactile, psycholigical thing for me, a physical function, a release.

So, when she eventually embraces her masochism and accepts all the sadistic stuff Fort conducts for his own pleasure, she ends up falling in love with him, and well, then we have a huge HEA when Fort, I'm not really convinced how, realizes that he's in love with Juliet too...even though he hurt her emotionally along the way...

*le sigh*

that's just it, after all the quotes I presented, after quite a bit of thinking, and aside my own personal reluctance towards the described lifestyle, I still think that LOVE was the last thing that came to my mind after finishing this book. It was never convincing for me, that part was a huge fail in my eyes.

so, after all, I'm asking you: "What's love got to do with it?"

so, the real rating is actually, 2.75, cause despite my main remark, the writing was clear, pure and interesting, the description of the sexual acts was also quite imaginative , apart form the sadistic segments, that is, and well, even though I found Juliet kinda weak and insecure, I have no problem with accepting that side of the personality if it's portrayed consistently and credibly, and it was.

Juliet Pope is a business manager for an eccentric artist. While she is proficient in her career, personal relationships have been a challenge based on Juliet’s choices. Wearing her emotions on the surface, Juliet’s vulnerabilities are ever present and when her final Dominant/submissive relationship fails, she crashes.

“I belonged here in this colorful, comfortable place. The marble penthouse was a fantasy…and so was Fort St. Clair.”

Forsyth “Fort” St. Clair is a wealthy businessman and sadist who has been unlucky in his past relationships. Since then, he’s chosen non-emotional connections with his submissives. While out with his friends, Fort notices drunk woman outside a BDSM club in need of help and despite the warnings, he offers assistance. Feeling a mutual attraction, they bond in an honest way but Fort isn’t looking for a relationship.

“I’m into tears and power trips. I’m into capriciously hurting you because it’s unfair, and because you’ll let me do it anyway.”

Knowing Juliet is vulnerable and that his instinct says to stay away, Fort finds a way to reconnect with Jewels. Experiencing her openness actually makes Juliet more appealing as a person and a submissive, and while Fort has his doubts, he is content with his decision to contact her but is unsure if she can withstand what he needs as a Dominant.

“I want to do all kinds of perverse, painful, lustful things to you, but it will be a pure power exchange.”

From the outset, Fort and Juliet agree to view their arrangement as strictly physical. Fort’s brand of sadism involves consensual non-consensual play and pushing the pain threshold. For Juliet, she isn’t sure about her propensity for masochism, but after their first scene, it’s clear she is a maso-slut.

“He pinched and worked my clit, pressing fingers against the sensitive nub to the point of pain. I bucked my hips, trying to escape his rough caresses, but he only fucked me harder and faster.”

As they continue to test the waters, the goal is for Fort to bring Juliet to his exclusive BDSM club. When it’s time, the intensity and connection they share is apparent to all, but with each successive scene, Fort begins to worry about emotionally harming Juliet and protecting himself from something real.

Told in dual POV, the plot moves at a steady pace while each character is peeling back the layers. Juliet recognizes her feelings for Fort are more than just physical and while she tries to hold back, it’s a futile effort. Considering her past, Juliet is still willing to take another chance on love. However, Fort’s nickname proves to be telling because he isn’t about to lower his defenses

Throughout their sessions, the intensity of Fort’s sadism is palpable and there were moments when I squirmed for Juliet, but she needed to receive the pain as much as Fort needed to administer it. While not everyone may not understand that dynamic, it was right for them and the transition felt authentic.

In Dark Dominance, vulnerabilities and chances are explored which ultimately lead to honesty and trust. For those who enjoy some sado-maso activities, I recommend!

I have to admit that the first time I came across true sadists in BDSM romance had been from the books of Annabel Joseph and more precisely from her series: Club Mephisto. I was not sure how I felt about that story or about sadism generally per se. I was feeling very uncomfortable while reading these books. That's for sure. But at the same time, I was so captivated by author's writing style that I could not stop reading and the result was a 5 stars rating by me and crying my eyes out in the end of Burn for You(Club Mephisto #2) where suddenly everything made sense.

So, every time I feel strong enough mentally to read about more unbelievable sadists I end up picking a book by the same author.
This series is very interesting because the main characters are sadists without limits or safe words and they are completely honest with their subs/ masochists. And I really appreciated the fact that Fort is completely straightforward and honest with Juliet from the beginning:

“You mean you can be even rougher?”
“Rougher, colder, more intense. I’m a Dominant, but it’s more accurate to call me a sexual sadist. I like to hurt women and force them to do things for my pleasure. It’s how I prefer to get off.”
“I understand about BDSM.”
He shook his head. “You understand mainstream BDSM, the safe, sane, consensual stuff they do at Underworld. You’re into the romance of it, the slap and tickle to get off. To me, that’s going through the motions. It’s not real. Well, not real enough.”

AND

“I’m into tears and power trips. I’m into capriciously hurting you because it’s unfair, and because you’ll let me do it anyway. I’m into reducing you to a sex object, and sometimes sharing you with my friends. I’m into bruises and welts on a regular basis, marks you’ll wear like a uniform because I want you to. But I’m mostly into tears, Juliet, and tormenting you.”

And I really appreciated the fact that Fort is the most hesitant about their arrangement/relationship. Maybe Juliet is very emotional, is not stable, is not strong enough.

This is really a power exchange arrangement with the dominant needing the total surrender without safewords and the intense pain of the masochist in order to function. The true pain where the sub really wants to stop and she truly suffers. But she is not allowed. No games.
At the same time the masochist needs this total surrender and suffering and she basically leaves her life at the hands of her dom who may even mark her and humiliate her and even make her fear for herself. The key work here is “need".

“I’m going to run some experiments on you,” he said. “Learn your reactions to different things.”
“Oh, okay. Yes, Sir.”
“I wasn’t asking for permission.”
Oh my God.

I cannot say that I truly understand this kind of relationships, but they exist in real world. So if you interesting in reading more about sadists from romance point of view, I suggest reading this book.
I think I will read the next books from this series because I am curious about Fort's best friends and their HEAs.

Annabel Joseph made me cry ... again!

When it comes to BDSM genre, my go-to authors are so few that I can count them on one hand and still have fingers left over. Annabel Joseph happens to be one of those few. She always manages to deliver the story that hits you right where it counts: in the feels. This book was no exception. Perfection from star to finish, Fort and Juliet's journey was so full of emotions - on both sides - that I couldn't help but shed quite a few tears and I regret nothing! I am not sure if most will find this story cry-worthy, however, Annabel's brilliant ability to mix kink with feels is what usually brings out all these emotions [in me].

With each and every one of Annabel's new releases I say 'This is my new favorite!' but this book truly is! I mean, having been a fan of this author for years now, I am simply blown away by the writing and how flawless it was in this book. It just flowed. Everything about this story was fantastic, including the dialogue that was absolutely brilliant! I couldn't put Dark Control down and read it in one sitting.

PLEASE NOTE: the sex scenes in this book, even though consensual, won't be for everyone. This isn't 'pink furry cuffs/spank my bottom' type BDSM content. If you are open minded enough not to judge, especially something you may not understand or might not be your cuppa, then by all means go ahead and try this book. If not, there are plenty of other authors/genres out there for you to enjoy.

I am now counting weeks till Devin's story because I can't wait to meet a woman who will finally bring the notorious playboy to his knees!

Cheers!

3* mr. sadist STARS!

FYI, Annabel Joseph is on my top list author for 'real' BDSM romance. Because I'm such a picky bitch and avoid BDSM wannabe at any cost. She always write unconventional romance with darker elements. As the first book in Dark Dominance series, I hardly enjoyed it. The conflicted feelings between me as the reader and both MCs is the main problem. So, here it is...

description

Forsyth St Clair or Fort (Holyshit I love his name! But not the man *LOL!*) is a self-proclaimed sadist. He's one of the BDSM elitist with a private club, The Gallery. His 'fun' night with his friends destined him to help an unfortunate drunk woman. It was hard to like Fort because of his on-off attitude. He was confused with his own feelings and me too. I don't know what do you want, man.

Juliet Pope has really different world from Fort. She has a 'hippie' artist as her boss and 'only friend'. Juliet is professional with her job even she's kinda tired of it. Well, nothing's interesting until Fort 'hunted' her and they started to scratch each other itch. Yeah, that's what they did.

When Fort proposed his BDSM relationship, he told her that he's a sadist and wants to see her cry but baby steps. They agreed on safe word (Yeah!). Juliet was beyond horny also scared and she agreed with his proposal. Well, their scenes isn't tame at all but still consensual.

description

Fort is true to his words as a sadist. He feeds from her tears. Sadly, I couldn't feel their chemistry. They feels like a business partner because Fort guard himself. The sex was totally anticipated. Raw, intense and kinda hot in kinky delicious way. They have so much 'fun'. Juliet also found his masochist side even her mouth says stop but her mind is craving the pain. Another hard part is when they play at The Gallery. It feels... cold.

In the end, I couldn't like Fort because he's self-victimize because of the past. Ended up 'hurt' Juliet in the process. Really hate this kinda man. Also, I didn't like how Juliet easily welcome Fort without groveling. It seems too forgivable after what he did to her. The most grave mistake in BDSM scene. Anyway, I'm glad that his friends isn't that a-hole (because of their first intro sounds like a snob and cocky.). No complaint with the writing. Flawless as usual. I just couldn't connect with both MCs and their motive. That's all.

WOW!

I love reading Annabel Joseph for all the crazy emotions she make me feel... and for the really crazy sex.

This book is about Juliet, business manager to temperamental artist, and Fort, business man and hire to a million dollar business. They're first meeting isn't that auspicious: Fort rescues a really drunk Juliet and takes her to his home since she didn't have her phone and wallet and couldn't say where she lived; he found her outside a BDSM club. When she wakes up she's mortified, appalled, and a bit turned on by our hero, and the only thing she wants is to go home. Fast forward a few weeks and google searches and they end up working together.

They go out to dinner, Fort's idea, and they finally talk about their interest in kink. They're super attracted to each other and Fort hopes she's a masochist to his sadist. He's also scared of her emotional openness. Fort decides that even though he can't stop thinking about her a sexual relationship(any kind of relationship) wouldn't be a good idea so he fucks up and chooses for both of them. Lots of drama ensures and they part ways. Third time's the charm though...

Juliet is an amazing person, well organized in he professional life but she has a weakness in crappy males. She usually chooses the emotionally unavailable and/or stunted. I loved her snarkiness, humor and courage. Fort is generous, has a bit of a knight in shining armor complex and is crazy kinky. He loves making women cry, but only during sex. It's really corny to say: but they complete each other.

Ms Joseph wrote another of her emotional roller-coasters with lovable characters(even when you kinda want to murder them) and really good sex. This book is for anyone who isn't afraid of some really spicy sex.

Couldn’t get to sleep last night… ended up starting this and finishing it. Delivered on angst and uncertainty of their relationship, and I liked that it was humourous without reducing the angst when it comes to hero and mixed signals. Goodluck was actually a charming kooky character. A lot of BDSM scenes.

I relate to a lot of Annabel Joseph’s modern heroines. This heroine reminds me of the heroine in her Rough Love series. Joseph understands yearning and also heroines in shit dates/red flag men scenarios. I still remember that awful scene in book 1 of Rough Love where she tries to go on a normal date and her date pretends to go to the washroom and then leaves her at the table.

Here, the heroine gets emotional with her doms and some of those early conversations with the hero are embarrassing but in a satisfying way. He keeps telling her she’s not right for him and they wouldn’t work in a relationship LOL. It’s LOL because of how the scene is written 😭🫶🏽

Dark Control is a quick, predictable and enjoyable read. I really liked Fort cause he came off as a real dominant and yet again really human in his relations with his friends and Julie. His behavior and emotions are honest towards Juliet. She is a great submissive who is controlled by her emotions for Fort. Also she is very likable and it was interesting to follow her journey towards more sadistic BDSM with Fort. Their d/s scenes were great and at times intense. Fort’s two friends Devin and Milos’ book are next. They’re both very different dominants and I’m intrigued.
Dark Control was a great story overall.

Rating:

4 Stars

Genres:

Contemporary Romance, BDSM Erotica

Recommended:

Yes, especially to those that love BDSM erotica & consensual non-consent themes.

My thoughts:

The main focus in this book was on the characters relationship & the BDSM erotica.

I have no complaints on the BDSM portion. It's a good moderate level of BDSM, nothing too extreme IMO. I was hoping it'd be a bit more hardcore, but that's just me & my reading preference.

For the characters, Fort & Juliet, they do not seem compatible. Maybe even toxic for one another. They have the chemistry though, but it felt like both of them kept trying to fit square pegs into rounds hole. I had no idea how these two would get through their differences.

Overall:

A good read. However, that ending... Well, that's why it's a 4 star & not a 5.

This is the story of Juliet and Fort.

Ms. Joseph has an unique way to tell intense sexual stories balancing perfectly with emotional presence! Ms. Joseph convinces me every single time that I read her job that even if I am not into the practises she writes about, I will still feel everything her heroes felt! Their concerns, insecurities, passions, everything! Ms. Joseph also knows how a situation that sounds hard to someone, it’s also sensitive and real to someone else! I love how balanced and full of feelings Ms. Joseph’s work is.

The plot was intense, maybe predictable but really intense. The characters were developed in a balanced way. Juliet and Fort are both of them with faults but that’s what makes them good together. Their connection was more than intense! It was like a slow burn, a dance….the time between their first meeting and their first actual contact felt like forever to me (that’s the only complain I have…the slow start). And the secondary characters were interesting to meet!

The end of the book was the only way possible in my eyes. I need to point out that this book is not for everyone but everyone will feel the strong emotions of the heroes!

I know I am going to be in the minority on this book, but I didn't love it. The cover is intriguing and the synopsis peeked my interest, but I didn't like it as much as I was hoping I would.

I've read BDSM books before so I will assure you I am not a prude 😌 but it came off kinda cheesy at times. Yes the intense moments with them were great, the author is amazing at making you feel front and center. She wrote intriguing characters that I did like.

I rated this 3 stars, its a good book but it just wasn't one that spoke to me and nor did it warrant me to shelve it in my favorites.

If you like BDSM then you will appreciate this author because she keeps things real and authentic. Just personally wasn't my favorite, but don't let that sway you.

“This was a game to him, a game to see how miserable he could make me, how hard he could make me cry.”
And the female main character likes playing this, “game”!

I’ve read a lot of BDSM romances yet this one is different as the main character/is a true sadist and so are the people he hangs out with. Living with chronic neck pain, I cannot imagine anyone enjoying what this strong Dom doles out yet because of how well she writes, Ms. Joseph did convince me that the pleasure the female main charactee experiences is possible. I don’t want to find out for myself but it sure was fun reading about it!

Once again Annabel Joseph tests our limits. The book isn't for the faint of heart. We are brought into a BDSM world that doesn't have safe words. It's based on non-consent consent and I was a bit terrified while reading.

Fort needs something darker. He looks his submissive or partners to give up all control, play with no safe words and no escape from his torment.
Juliet stumbles into his world and is willing to play by his rules. Besides his rules of no safe words, Fort makes it known that he's not looking for a relationship or to fall in love.

Juliet is stronger than she realizes and the trust that Fort has earned quickly turns to love.

I, like Juliet, was in a conundrum. I wasn't sure if I wanted Fort to continue or stop his torture. I was fascinated with their power exchange. Juliet ended up being stronger than I would have been given the situation Fort put her in. She endured Fort and his level of play and knew her worth.

Despite Fort's persistence that he won't fall in love or be in a relationship the pair found trust along with love. After a lapse in judgment Fort realized his error and Juliet is willing to try again.

We're introduced to a few of Fort's friends who are equally as demanding and charming. I can't wait to see what's in store with the rest of the series.

Hot!!

Book 1 of the series. The story was about Forsyth St. Claire a.k.a Fort & Juliet Pope a.k.a Jules. Long story short, compare to some BDSM genre I've read, I'd put this on hardcore level. The "scenes" are fire, not complaining here, when Fort in Dominant-self it just wanna make you squirm. However, when his sadist shows up... man, better run to the hill!

Love the other characters too, Devin, Milo..they're Fort's buddies. And Jules's boss, Goodluck..he's such a charming character! His persona will pulling smiles out of your face! (huh?)

Anyway, can't wait to read Devin & Milo books!

Title: Dark Control
Author: Annabel Joseph
Series: Dark Dominance #1
Genre: erotica
Themes: BDSM
Cover: 3/5
Heat: 3/5
Rating: 3/5

I am a fan of Annabel Joseph's work, and have read a few of her BDSM themed series. This one, however, I felt was too similar to the Rough Love series, with its focus on pain and masochism, its involvement in the art world, the wealthy sadist scared of commitment, and the lack of a safe word. Unfortunately, I actually really enjoyed the other series, so to me, this felt like a less developed version of much the same.

Fort and Juliet just didn't seem to have that believable a connection to me. There wasn't so much of a plot, only scene after scene towards the end, showcasing Joseph's ability to write (and not to shy away from) the brutality in sex scenes. They were erotic, to a degree, but I've found I'm less into the pain and more into the humiliation side of reading BDSM, so this will appeal more to 'maso-sluts'.

I did enjoy reading it, and Goodluck was probably the highlight with his artistic rambling and comedic value. I just wanted to be a little more invested in their relationship than I found myself at the final page.

In a nutshell
What I liked
-The moment of conflict really did make me feel
-The brutality

What I didn't like
-The one-dimensional characters
-The repetition of tropes and themes in Joseph's work

I love love love love Annabel Joseph. I love that her books never let me down, and Dark Control is no different. What can I tell you that won't ruin the whole experience?

Is it dark as the title would imply? Possibly. Maybe if you're unfarmiliar with any of Joseph's more hard core BDSM novels. But is it the hardest she's ever written? Nope. This is dark in the perverbial desires Fort has to inflict pain, and how Juliet comes to crave it. Fort is 100% sadist to Juliet's masocist, only it takes them a little time and patience to get there. Along the way, the arrangement they have alters, much to Fort's dismay.

I won't say that where things go is not predictable, because it really is. But that predictable storyline of the Dom not understanding or wanting to have actual feelings for his sub is done beautifully. I love that because Joseph shows Juliet as a force of nature. She's not going to put up with poor treatment so when that does happen, she stands her ground and she's out. She's a strong and wonderfully written woman first, sub second.

Fort, on the other hand is the typical Dom who doesn't want a relationship, only a sub. That's fine... really it is. He's lived this way for a while. I loved him for it. He is very clear and makes sure at all opportunities that he and Juliet are on the same page with regards to their relationship. Poor Alpha Male just doens't know what hits him though, and that was a fun ride to be on. I do however wish the story delved a little bit more into Fort's history and back story. I feel like ther is more to him than we are given.

The BDSM emements in the book are written beautifuly. Clear communication. The issue of consensual non consent is something that's not treated lightly. The amount of trust needed on both sides is clearly laid forth. I love how Joseph does this as well. It's hard core at it's most giving.

Dark Control also introduces some very interesting side characters in the form of Fort's friends. I look forward to the series continuing so I can get to know them better, find out what makes them tick.

Recommended for any Annabel Joseph fan, and anyone looking for a walk on the wild side. I loved this.

Maybe 3.5 stars. I do like Annabel Joseph. I don't think this was up to her usual standard, though. I loved the BDSM, but that's a lot of what I read for. I also liked Goodluck Boundless a lot. He was a great character.

Where my problems come in is in inadequate character development. We don't really get to know these two people in terms of how they came to be the way they are. I would have liked to know more about Juliet's failed relationship where she's looking for the guy at the very beginning. I also think the book would have been better if we had more about why Fort was the way he was, in terms of relationships, or lack thereof. Without spoilers, I think she forgave him much too quickly at the end and think we could have used more about how they get to the epilogue.

I love dark romances and BDSM themed books so I was really excited when I started reading Dark Control. I’ll be honest on one hand it filled that craving for the dark romance that I love but on the other something just felt off. Maybe I missed something when I was reading, which very well could be, but while I liked Dark Control I wasn’t in love with it like I hoped. Now I am not saying it is a bad book, because it isn’t, but for me something just didn’t click into place like I had hoped. I do plan on reading the next book just to see if I will click more with it than I did Dark Control.

If this is becoming a series, then Annabel is of to a great start! Fort is a true sadist, but one that doesn’t want emotional ties. That’s why drawing Juliet into his life is a bad idea....for both. She’s too sweet,too...eager to please him. What happens between them and how this ends, you really need to find out! It’s a journey that’s more than worth it.

This book leaves a lot to be desired! The grammar is good, the spelling is good and the syntax and expression are good also. The story line is mediocre with very little plot and the main characters - Fort and Juliet are shallow with very little depth. I could not connect with or 'buy into' the characters and had no empathy with or for Juliet even though she is a modern woman and a professional -she is too weak. She would never have maintained such a professional life being as weak as she is. The art world is dominated by men and she would need strength to "deal".

I hated Fort, he was so self obsessed and he lived for his own pleasure at the expense of those he considered beneath him - such as those who frequented The Underground BDSM club. He is elitist, and full of contempt. 'Oh, their experiences were not 'real'. BOLLOCKS!
I have read this authors historical romances and enjoyed them and the realism within them. The characters were deeper and the storyline engaging, but this book is too inept and she has' let herself down' with this one because she did not 'flesh out' the serious issues in this book. Having 2 degrees in Sociology and counselling, I cannot help but be critical of writing that is blatantly fantastical but based in reality, this book could have been so much better.

Fort has serious issues and actually is a 'psychopath'- just because he found others like himself does not make him 'normal or socially acceptable' - he's still a psychopath, there are plenty of them around, he merely found a niche! The author does not go into any depth regarding his issues or his past environment that caused his psychopathy and why he wants to hurt women and his resistance to love. It's all shallowly skipped over but could have been more emotional and thought provoking.

Sadists have serious mental issues and are deeply flawed with dangerous psychological, emotional and physical problems - hence his brutality, cruelty, nastiness, lack of control and pettiness. His internal world is chaotic and out of control so he externalises these feelings etc on the outside world and tries to control others by seeking their submission. He likes to think he is in control but the reality is vastly different because he is not in control - hence his chaotic brutalistic behaviour, emotional or otherwise. There is 'only one thing' we can control in this world of ours and that is ourselves. If we master the control of ourselves through learning and experience we have no wish to control others. The lesson is self evident! For it is the hardest task/lesson of all!

So for educational sake, one serious issue I have with the character is that he will not allow Juliet to orgasm vaginally only anally. Does this author know anything about biology? The anus has no erogenous zones, so stimulation is needed elsewhere to produce orgasms. Does this author also not know that vaginal orgasms actually help women with sexual health and menstruation and actually help women get pregnant. The cervix during a woman's vaginal orgasm actually dips itself into a hollow (several times), high in the vaginal wall near the cervix to coat itself in male sperm, making it easier for said sperm to enter the uterus and join with the female egg to create children.
So Fort is actually damaging his sub's health, psychological wellbeing (doing much harm) and if in future they wish to conceive the chances are slim as he categorically states 'no vaginal orgasms' and Juliet will never feel the full release, fullness and satiation/satisfaction of that penetration and it's end result - cruelty at it most heinous! Not a nice guy at all and a very ignorant one!

Another issue is, with the amount of anal sex Fort wants is he really gay? And he does it 'bareback'! Is this author aware of "E Coli" bacteria, one of the most deadly on the planet and every anus is full of it! She never once mentions Fort cleaning himself up directly after intercourse which he should because he would be covered in excrement and "E Coli' - disgusting I know but it's reality and authors need to deal with it as they have a responsibility to their readers to educate, promote safe practices as well as entertain.
Another point - if men like anal sex because it is supposedly tighter than the vagina, then why is Fort continually insisting that Juliet sit on very large dildo's with a diameter of 3 inches to stretch it even further. Surely, the guy is an idiot because doing this defeats the whole purpose of 'tightness.' Anal sphincter muscles do not automatically re-shrink - quite the opposite in fact and need surgery to correct the lack of anal control, a very common issue that is rarely discussed!

Fort is not only sadistic, he is cruel, petty, nasty and continually humiliating Juliet - a sign of his own lack of self-esteem and weakness. He does the 'unforgivable' and abandons her in the middle of a scene, strapped and trapped in sub-space, totally abused and out of it and other Dom's have to rescue her, care for her and get her home. Just unforgivable! He is such a low life, she looked at him wrongly and there goes his responsibility to care for her as it's his duty, but he fails spectacularly rendering him the worst Dom ever! But Juliet is such a weak character (no feminists here folks) she forgives him because he follows her (whoopie fuckin do) and shows up. Just like that and he gives her the most pathetic excuses and she falls for it! For fucks sakes the woman is 32 years old and should not act like some simpering teenager - get real! WTF? No grovelling, no pleading - worst plot line ever! Surely this author can do better than this?

What Fort did was woeful, horrendous and very dangerous leaving her in such a vulnerable position. He broke so many rules, that he should never be allowed to Dom again. Angel Golden in her books has had characters totally barred from all BDSM clubs, never allowed to play publicly again for behaviour/rule infringements far less than that. Fort is a weak man and that should have been the end of the relationship because he had absolutely no respect for her and at 32 she should have known this- this is NOT LOVE!

The author does not explain how Juliet retrieved her purse, phone and wallet etc after she lost them at Underworld, (major theme plot as Fort did not know her identity and took her home) they just mysteriously turn up with Juliet using them. This is bad writing and shows that the authors head 'was not in the game' and truly invested in the writing of this book! Such an obvious failure and so disappointing.

Goodluck had the right of it (loved his artistic, philosophical nature, that's why I gave the book 2 stars) our bodies are our temples and to allow that sort of debasement is detrimental to our soul and psyche. (I have no issue with those in the lifestyle) but they too have a set of ethics and are aware of the damage that can be done. (SSC).

Now the ending- WHAT THE FUCK? -it was so so terrible! Basically Fort tells Juliet 'I hurt you because I love you'. How ridiculous and ludicrous, nearly vomited over my computer!
Dear Author, let me ask you - does the rapist say 'I rape you because I love you?' Does the pedophile say 'I sexually abuse you because I love you?' Does the husband beat the shit out of his wife because he loves her?' Does the date rapist rape because he loves his victim?' 'Does the murderer kill because they love their victims?' You should think about these questions, all of us should, maybe gain some insight to enable you to write a better book. Dear readers, do not waste your money or your time on this one! Definitely not one for thinkers of rationale or intelligence.

I forgot how utterly amazing Annabel's books are! She has upped the game in this story, and has taken all that is so appealing about her writing, and evolved her imagination into the stratosphere. Seriously, if you like mature adults, confused adults, creative adults, determined adults, or serious adults, there is something here for you.

Dark Control is the story of Fort and Juliet, and their developing relationship in the BDSM world. Juliet thinks she is experienced in the BDSM world, but she is nowhere near into it at the depth of Fort and his friends. Fort knows she isn't at his depth, but he is so drawn to her, and as much as he tries to stay away, and warn her away, he can't leave her

Fort is sure he knows what he wants and needs in his life. He sticks with this throughout his dealings with Juliet, and it confuses him. He is confused because she isn't following the rules he set out, but then again, neither does he. Juliet tries to follow his lead, but he is all other the place, confusing her. She follows her own way, while trying to keep him thinking she is doing things his way

Of course this all implodes, causing angst and issues for them both. I cried, she cried, he yelled, I cried, the artist cried, the cat cried (trust me, you'll understand), I cried, and then I cried happy tears when the impossible seemed to finally come together.

This is the story of sadists and their masochists, and while toned down a bit, it isn't the romanticized version, this is real, so be prepared. Once you have that in mind, you will get lost in the beauty of the story and the characters

'DARK CONTROL' by Annabel Joseph is the First Book in a New Series called "Dark Dominance". This is the story of Juliet and Fort.
Fort and his friends are into hardcore BDSM and they go to an exclusive club that is only open on Saturdays. But they are all feeling like they want to get out and do their thing but go to a lower standard type club. There Fort happens to see Juliet who is outside looking upset and drunk. Fort feels compelled to help her and tries to take her home. But ends up with her at his apartment. Fort finds her attractive but doesn't act on it and the next day she leaves. Fort thinks to never see her again but he can't get her out of his mind. They end up in a Dom / Sub relationship which Fort makes it clear and Juliet agrees that will be all that they have. But as with perfect plans they aren't so perfect.
This was a really hot book that I did enjoy. The only thing that stuck out to me was that Fort was dealing with a past issue but I didn't really feel the connection with that issue. Overall loved the book and hope to read more from Ms. Joseph soon.

Gahhh! Annabel Joseph's books are so dark and sexy and an addiction for me. Whenever I start one I cannot put it down. Fort and Juliet/Jules were pure FIRE. I loved their chemistry but also the unwanted connection that formed between them. They didn't WANT to feel for each other but they did and it was emotional and so sexy.

When Forsyth "Fort St. Clair comes across a disheveled and intoxicated Juliet "Jules" Pope outside a popular BDSM club his need to protect is awoken. But while he wants to ensure this woman is safe, he is intrigued by her and the collar he can see around her neck. But Jules is at a low point in her life. She is very tired of the Dom/Sub relationships she has had in the past and is just so emotionally drained. As a sub, she has fallen for the wrong Doms who have proven themselves to be bad for her. But when she meets Fort a connection is formed that neither of them expect. What follows is a dark and sexy and somewhat taboo story of sadist and masochist who each get pushed to their limits.

I really liked this story and although Fort's taboo need for non-consent/consent was an intense and different take on the ususal BDSM stories, it was hot as heck. I found his emotional unavailability to be daunting and intimidating at times but I, like Jules, could not get enough! I can't wait for Devin's story! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula
