Three days after exploring my animal birth sign, courtesy of Kwok Man-Ho, I indulged in another book of Chinese principles: “The Three Sisters Of The Tao: Essential Conversations With Chinese Medicine, I Ching, And Feng Shui”, published in 2010. I discovered I have had another of Terah Kathryn Collins’s treatises for years, on “Feng Shui”.

I know it is about arranging our homes, to put energy and health into balance. Fortunately, it does not pertain to the minimalist nonsense I abhor. We are on a physical life plain, where our belongings supply an emotional and practical use and importance. To my relief, “Feng Shui” only proposes giving away or removing what we are certain we do not want. I look forward to reading my earlier book’s detailed guidance on object placement.

Each of these three concepts are presented in short vignettes that are easy to follow. This slim overview makes me ready to read detailed books about the three of them. I had heard of “the Tao” but do not know what it is. I am new to “I Ching” and enjoyed being introduced to it: literally. Terah used a creative storytelling imagination. Three Sister Deities came to Earth to teach her their skills in person, inside a circle. The first tone is soft, the second Sister got in her face, and the third approach was seriousness blended with humour.

These disciplines recycle questionnaires with exercises for each Sister’s chapter. I did not care to try them but read them all the way through. Terah admitted a need, for my own consistently cherished mindset, to build a harmonious life. Mix pleasure and fun with work, for example. I do not claim career or monetary success but have always keenly known that dreams and happiness are important matters, that come first.
