Grace: People think I’ve got everything: the perfect marriage, my own business based just outside London, a beautiful and luxurious home… What no-one knows is that my life is hell. No. It’s worse than hell. When my husband dies, I don’t really know how to behave. He never loved me. He’s left me with nothing, except bruises and scars, and bad memories… and the hope that somewhere out there, there must be something better than this…
Matt: I’m a self-made multi-millionaire from Boston, and until that night two years ago, everything was pretty damned great. I had my fair share of beautiful women, the best friends and a good life… until one stupid mistake nearly cost me everything. Now I’m done with looking back. I’m done with being scared, and I’m done with uncertainty. I want a future. I want a future with someone special - someone I can trust. All I need to do is find her…
It’s business that brings Matt and Grace together.
It’s love that holds them there.
But when someone from the past threatens their happiness, and threatens Grace’s safety, how far will Matt go to protect the woman he loves?
He’ll go as far as he has to… and further.
This is dual POV story, with graphic sex scenes, descriptions of domestic abuse, and adult language.
Finding Matt is book one in the Escaping the Past series, but can be read as a stand-alone story, with no cliff-hanger.
Suzie writes steamy and contemporary romances, with the kind of book boyfriends every woman needs in her life.
When she’s not writing, she likes nothing more than to relax with a coffee, while thinking up new storylines, and to pretend that plate of crumbs had absolutely nothing to do with her. Nothing whatsoever.
She lives in wedded bliss with the only man she’s ever loved… and their crazy cat.
If it weren't for the underlying mystery around Grace's husbands death and the threatening texts this would have been a terrible book.
In terms of romance, it is not good. I'm not a fan of 'insta-love' at all, so that was my main issue with the story. Matt and Grace don't know each other AT ALL and it's just like 'omg I'm in love'. Seriously, they realise they love each other far too soon, after barely any exchanges, it's crazy and I have a hard time seeing past that. Instant attraction is very much okay, but love? Nah.
I absolutely hated how much Grace cries. In pretty much every chapter she ends up crying about something. I was rolling my eyes over the crying, so damn much.
Hated how (slight spoiler alert) Matt's money completely solved all of Grace's problems in the end. Very convenient that he just so happens to be the nicest, most attractive man in the world, and also a billionaire. And he's A-OK with girls that only ever cry and barely ever smile. Ugh.
The sex scenes aren't great. Not getting into detail on it, much like the sex scenes.
So, yeah. Only good thing going on really was the underlying mystery, which ended up being a bit of a let down (I skimmed mostly towards the end).
I've started reading the next book Finding Luke, because I liked his character in this one, but the insta-love and constant girl crying is alive in Luke's book too! I've given up already. I liked the writing style too, so might check out more of this authors work. But swear to god, if the girls cry and the guys fall in love after one look, I'm out.
This is my first time reading this author and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed, Matt and Grace were amazing together and I loved how they took it slowly based on Grace’s previous trauma. There are discussions on physical and sexual abuse that happened to Grace so be warned if this is a trigger for you. I loved Luke, Will & Todd also and I will read their books in order next but I detested Jenny and her accusations especially when she did what she did. I knew who was sending the messages it just made sense after that altercation. I do have a nagging issue though and it’s about Malcolm & Beth, I would have wondered if he had forged that will so he kept it all and she never explored that possibility but it could have been that Jonathan never changed the will and it was Malcolm scamming her so I would have liked that investigated in this book. Anyway if the above triggers don’t bother you then you will love this book, Matt is just so alpha but sweet, loving and kind and Grace is just such a lovely character and they are perfect together. It took a bit of trauma to get their HEA but they got there.
Everyone thinks Grace has a perfect life. married to a doctor and with her co-owned agency with her best friend. If only they knew what went on behind closed doors.
Matt has a good life, he is wealthy, successful, good looking with great friends. He experienced a difficult situation with an Ex a few years ago and has closed himself off from dating, not trusting anyone or himself.
Hiring a female lead agency feels right for his new business venture and Grace’s seems like a good fit. It’s smaller and not as established but she needs this to work or her company could be in financial trouble. On the cusp of a big meeting she finds out her husband has been killed in a car accident. It’s quite a shock but secretly she’s relieved. On top of this more is revealed and it’s like her husband had a second life.
Throwing herself into work, her and Matt bond. It’s difficult with him in the states and her in the UK. Throw in some drama with her bff and the threats she getting, what could go wrong?
This was ok. I was a little conflicted with Grace. Hated what she had been through but wanted her to be a bit tougher especially with her so called bff.
A first read of this author for me and I thoroughly enjoyed. However, there were a few annoying things. Matt's mother in the hospital seemed irrelevant to the plot and her death was barely mentioned so why bring that into the story line at all - it really didn't add anything. To me it was obvious who was responsible for the stalking/phone messages, and it does seem odd that it never occurred to Matt or his cop friend that this person was worth looking into; however, all that said, I liked how it led us down the path of the husband. I think the book dragged once Grace moved to Boston, and the plot from there on could have been tied up quicker. However, the most annoying part is the lack of consequences for Grace's husbands corrupt lawyer and lover - was the baby even her husbands? A good read and I will move on to Lukes story, but a bit too many strands of the story leaving loose ends.
Grace was hired to work for a great company and just found out her abusive husband had died in a horrible car accident. When she gets a call from her husbands solicitor saying he left the house to his mistress and unborn child she is devastated. When She meets Will the boss of the company she is hired to work for she is falling for him. Will wants Grace but is willing to wait for her. He doesn't know anything g about her past but when she reveals everything she is a strong person. Now she is receiving text threatening her life. Can will and Grace find out who this is? Great read
This is Matt and Graces story he is businessman and she is starting up a design company . They have instant attraction but so much is happening in her life about her husband her life in general changes. Being held back back husband over the years, now having chance to enjoy herself but dealing with very emotional problems Matt is with her thought out her journey. Luck is next in this series just downloaded the book.
I enjoyed the storyline. The characters were well developed. There felt like something was missing while reading the book. There was little to no depth or passion in this book. While reading I saw the potential. It really is a good book, but it could be improved a little.
This is a strange one, so many things going on involving threatening phone calls, and yet all happening to Grace. All of a sudden everything makes sense and it leaves you thinking how did I miss this.
So good, I couldn't put it down all the twist and turns. Every time you think you have it figured out you don't. This was the first book I've read by this author, but it will not be the last. I can't wait to read Luke's story.
Matt’s story was great. Meeting Grace and falling in love with her was awesome. A love for all time. Loved their passion, chemistry, and devotion to each other.
