The Assimil method for teaching foreign languages is through the listening of audio cd's and the reading of an accompanying book, one side native language, one side foreign language. This method is focused on learning whole sentences, for an organic learning of the grammar. It begins with a long passive phase of only reading and listening, and eventually adds active exercises. Most books contain around 100 lessons, with the active phase starting on Lesson 50. The word Assimil comes from assimilation.
Several different series are published:
With Ease series, which teach basic rules of grammar and a vocabulary of 2000-3000 words;
Perfectionnement series, which teaches more advanced idiosyncrasies and idioms of the target language;
Business series, which focuses on vocabulary related to international business;
Idioms series, which teaches common idioms;

definitely a good way to refresh already learned things. I don't think this book would have helped me, if I'd never seen any Spanish before tho. I also think that some things aren't modern enough anymore. still a good way of learning.

Too many boring, unrelatable anecdotes from the middle of the book onward, as well as suddenly going heavy on the poor readers in their knowledge of Spanish, with quite many useless, redundant words and phrases that help no learner except to confuse one even more as one tries to learn further with this book.

L'approccio a una lingua con la collana Assimil non sembra tremendo, tuttavia non mi ha lasciato un buon ricordo: vuoi per l'incostanza o per un amore che non posso dire di nutrire per lo spagnolo come per altre lingue, semplicemente non vedevo l'ora di terminarlo (motivo per cui ad un certo punto non ho badato nemmeno più alla "seconda ondata").

La difficoltà crescente delle lezioni è buona, anche se penso sia difficile per una persona che parte da zero tenere a mente tutte le nuove parole (anche se il libro specifica che non bisogna imparare niente a memoria ma, appunto, assimilando come farebbe un bambino). Le spiegazioni che vengono date passo passo sono facili da gestire, ma forse troppo "spolpate". Sarà necessario affiancare al corso un buon libro di grammatica.

Darò un altra possibilità a questa collana con lo studio del tedesco, ma probabilmente non è un metodo adatto a me.
