This new book by Jim Mellon and Al Chalabi is a layman's guide to longevity. It investigates the new technologies and explains how to benefit from the life extending technologies both personally and professionally. It helps readers unravel the science, offers ideas on potential investment and reveals the views of the key opinion leaders.
Juvenescence has something for everyone. If you are interested in what you can do to improve your health and live longer, it has that. If you want to learn about the scientific research being conducted on aging and health, that is in there too. And if you just want to learn how to invest and profit from the field of longevity, Jim Mellon analyses all of the current companies working in the space. This book covers the entire spectrum of longevity, from what vitamins to take to the political and social implications of humans living significantly longer.
A useful read for anyone interested in good health and longevity.
A very useful read for anyone interested in good health and longevity. However there is some repetition and in some cases too deep a dive in the explanation and discussion of biochemical processes, etc. Else, I found the book packed with information and links to very useful sites, plus some interesting investment tips.
Excellent introduction to longevity and anti-aging research. If you are new to the field, this is a great first book.
Parts are difficult to read for someone not educated in biology, but at least it pointed me to what I don't know. Plenty of citations for further study.
You can tell it's a couple years old, but it was a fun exercise to cross-check recent developments and the progress of companies. Unfortunately, progress in the field is slower than you would hope.
I did not enjoy this book. It contains swaths of biological terminology and deep explanations of chemical reactions that occur in the human body as we age. While the information is very interesting, it's not something I can relate to or apply to my own life at this time. Additionally, the author makes predictions about future advancements in medical technology that extend our ageing years and average lifespan. However, based on current events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, where many people have died of illness and now years after, continue to die due to flawed vaccines, I do not believe these predictions will come true anytime soon. The book was written pre-COVID and therefore did not take into consideration such global events.
An excellent overview of developments of the healthcare sector, especially medicine. It also mentions a radical idea that life expectancy can be extended through medical advances. As this is an investment book, the authors provide some potential businesses which could be successful in the long run - NOT investment advice though. One needs to seek an informed one from an independent financial advisor who has the or can vouch the expertise in the sector and conduct due diligence.
