These stories about the multiple shared lifetimes of Jesus and the Buddha’s reincarnations offer startling revelations about the universe, A Course in Miracles, and the path to enlightenment Two and a half decades ago, Ascended Master Teachers Arten and Pursah appeared to Gary Renard and held a series of conversations with him that elaborated on the teachings of two spiritual classics, The Gospel of Thomas and A Course in Miracles. Gary immortalized what he learned in the books of his best-selling The Disappearance of the Universe, Your Immortal Reality, and Love Has Forgotten No One. This fourth book is a companion to the original trilogy, yet written to stand alone—an invitation for new readers into this fascinating work. This book explores six of the lifetimes in which the incarnations of Jesus and Buddha lived together, beginning in 700 B.C. when they were known as Saka and Hiroji. Through the spiritual lessons that Jesus and Buddha learn on their path, Arten and Pursah clarify the difference between duality and nonduality. When you are able to internalize these lessons, you will be saved countless years in your spiritual development.
It appears that this author has been around for a while, and has published quite a bit. However, too much of what he conveys within this text seems contradictory to what so many others have taught through channeled dictation. There is good stuff in here, but it’s interlaced with questionable and contradictory information. Struggling with this one; just doesn’t resonate as pure with me.
I give few examples of lies. Its kindle book page numbers.
1. Page 52 utter lie made up by Gary Renard!!
Gary states that there is grandson of paramahansa yogananda whom he met!!
If anyone knew of Yoganada him from his book “autobiography of a yogi” or knew his disciples they will know he was a complete kriya yogi, a celibate ascetic, a sanyasi, a brahmachari and true disciple of Sri yukteswar Giri!
2. Page 70 the way Arten speaks about Buddha is worse than an ill informed person speaking!! Arten is product of Gary Renard’s con because it is not possible for ascended beings to give wrong info!!
3. page 83 Gary Renard is telling fabricating tales again... whenever in any pages including page 83 Gary writes that “Buddhism never took off in India.” he puts this in Arten and our pursah’s mouths few times in the book !
Complete lie! Again it shows it’s not aware masters but ill informed Gary who is conning people with wrong history!
If anyone is well read, they can easily find that Buddhism was huge in India for centuries!!
In many North Indian kingdoms, East Indian kingdoms, West Indian kingdoms, South Indian kingdoms Buddhism existed for centuries and India had many many Buddhist temples and schools. From south India Buddhists went to Sri Lanka Thailand, etc.
There were and still are remains of famous Buddhist Universities in India, Taxila, Gandhara. Bamiyan valley in Afghanistan was 100% Buddhists at one time. Afghanistan was part of indian sub Continent!! Bamiyan valley, many valleys in Kashmir were full of Buddhists and had many Viharas.
All this wrong info proves Gray renard is not well read, archaeologically unaware and a liar putting words in imaginary masters!
I am shocked at the lies Gary has written and furthermore surprised people who liked his book aren’t well read enough to see these lies.
Google - Buddhist universities in India and Buddhist kingdoms in India and basic truth can be found. Even though Google’s accuracy is questionable. There are thousands of books on correvt history of indian subcontinent which will prove what I am writing, plus the Buddhist buildings and monuments which still exist all over India.
The Buddhist universities were made of stone not brick and stone built universities took some Arab Muslim invaders months to destroy and burn the Buddhist texts were mainly written in Pali in India. Tibetan, China Korea got Buddhist philosophy from India but studying in India.
There are historical evidences and proofs written by many Chinese, Korean, Tibetan monks over the 20 centuries period, came to study in those universities and were given large texts to copy in Chinese and Korean by indian monks and kings.
Muslim invaders plundered all those Buddhist universities, Viharas, texts all over Indian sub continent along with thousands of Hindu temples and ancient Vedic books from 7 th century onwards
Utter repetitive lies in this made up book!
4. Gary blatantly tells incorrect info and his book lacks the historic accuracy of truth about Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, Vedanta or Adi shankara!!
Any aware informed knowledgeable on these disciplines can tell Gary is lying in his book.
Ascended masters can never pass drivel which seems like wrong info copied from Wikipedia.
This book will never appeal to ANY HINDU, BUDDHIST, TAOIST because of complete untruths historically and completely inaccurate information about these disciplines!
5. ALL dates in the book mentioned about Krishna, Siddhartha (Buddha ) are completely WRONG because those dates was what was written by Western European writers when they tried to wrongly intentionally change ancient indian texts from 17th c to 20c while trying to colonise India!!
I KNOW for a fact ascended masters would not say these wrong dates which any intellectual academic Indian archaeological society will dispute based on stone buildings which are large ancient Buddhist temples and universities in India still as proof!
6. Gary writes on page 134 Arten says “Shakespeare was enlightened!”
Authorship of Shakespeares plays and Sonnets has been debated by most well known people in UK and internationally as he passed away in obscurity, had no proof that he wrote the works attributed to him, plus he had no knowledge of court intrigue which most of his plays on kings - Richards, Henry’s etc - contain. Every intellectual knows Shakespeare plays were written by an Elizabethan Courtier ( an Earl possibly) quite high up and well versed in politics, history, law, etc which Shakespeare living in Stratford wasn’t at all.
Gary Renard is obviously very ill informed, not well read and had NO contact from any ascended masters!
Gary will never admit it as his whole business empire of selling books and seminars is piggy backing on ascended masters visiting him!! Plus piggy backing on course in miracles which was NOT a channelled book at all. But Helen Schuchmans subconscious and conscious writing after she was prompted and convinced by Bill Thetford who was a devout Freemason who worked for CIA and led experiments in MK Ultra mind control for years!
I read DU Gary’s first book, even saw him in seminar, but found him not genuine and repetitive. Plus have seen him very very drunk after seminar! He seemed tobefull of himself and arrogant!
I am sure there are many people who have seen many faces of Gary - in drunk state - as there were many with me who saw him barely able to stand and speak as he drinks so much!
Quite a change from what he was during day and what he became end of day!
I never read any book of his after seeing his two face antics!
I was given this book by someone and have returned this as its complete lies.
Gary Renard has proven to be complete fraud who has been successful in conning some people. Seems people will believe con like Gary despite complete historical lies in his books.
Pre-ordered this book as soon as it was available. Prayed that it would arrive in time for me to take on my trip to the other side of the world where I will be for seven weeks. My prayer was answered as it arrived the morning of the day I was going to leave. So easy to be so grateful!
It only looks like it took me two days to read this. I crossed the international dateline… It only took me 10 hours or so to finish the book. What a ride! So much amazing information. I think I'll read it again.
Reminders for forgiveness practices--all the time!--and seeking the barriers within us that block love. Will I ever read A Course in Miracles myself? I feel so attached to the material reality of this world, it's hard for me to think of it as an illusion, though sometimes I can get to that. This reality just seems so amazing and enthralling. How to give it up?
"The self-help movement is about getting what you want, making things happen in the world, attracting things to you that are outside of you, and achieving your goals. That approach is based on a false premise. The premise is that if you get what you want, it will make you happy. The truth is that if you get what you want, it will make you feel good only for a short time and then you'll want something else. It's like a carrot and a stick, designed by the ego. The ego thought system is based on the idea of separation: the idea that somehow we have separated ourselves from our Source, which is God, as well as from each other. And if your happiness and peace of mind is dependent on what happens in this world, you're in trouble, because the only thing you can depend on in this ego-illusion of a world is that it will shift and change. That's what it does. It's fleeting and transitory, offering only temporary satisfaction at best." pg. xvii
"Many people think of Jesus as being the ultimate leader, but the truth is that he was the ultimate follower. In the Course, he says he just listened to one Voice. This is the Voice the Course wisely described as 'The Voice of God,' the Holy Spirit, rather than as the Voice of God. God does not interact with the world, because God is perfect Oneness and we should be happy God is not responsible for this world. If He was, He'd be just as crazy as we are. But because God is still Perfect Love, as both the Bible and the Course say, that gives us a perfect home to go home to." pg. xxiii
"Having has both a dog and a cat, I understood the difference in how they think. This is how a dog thinks: Wow! These people are great. They love me, they feed me, they take care of me. They give me everything. They must be Gods! This is how a cat thinks: Wow! These people are great. They love me, they feed me, they take care of me. They give me everything. I must be a God!" pg. 5
"We all have a right mind where the Holy Spirit dwells, and a wrong mind which is dominated by the ego and its thoughts of separation. Which part of the mind controls us is decided by the third part of the mind: the part that observes and chooses. That's where our real power, the power of decision, is. You make that decision mostly in how you choose to think of others." pg. 16
"ARTEN: You can think of what we would call the modern era of history to be the last five thousand years. That's just this cycle of history, and you know very little about what happened before that--not that you know that much about what happened in the last five thousand years either. In any case, the first time period and place we'd like to mention is about 700 B.C. in Japan, for reasons we'll get into." pg. 18 [I heard this theory of 5,000 year cycles also from a book by Timothy Ferris called Coming of Age in the Milky Way, so there seems to be some foundation in this.]
"ARTEN: By the way, when it comes to awareness, there's something you should remember about all people, whether you are fond of them or not: Everyone is doing the best they can with the level of awareness that they have." pg. 20-21
"PURSAH: The first thing you need to understand is that whether it shows or not, people feel on a very deep level. Even if they look calm, there are usually some pretty deep feelings going on, unless of course the feelings have been denied so completely that they're totally unconscious and the individual doesn't feel anything. But that's rare, and that's not the way it is for most people, even the quiet ones." pg. 21
"PURSAH: You've heard many times in the various teachings that you should monitor your thoughts. You should watch your thoughts closely for conflict, negativity, judgment, and condemnation. That's true, but what most teachers don't realize is that it's just as important to monitor your feelings. Why? The truth is you're more likely to act out of your feelings than anything!Of course most people don't realize that those feelings came about as the result of thoughts, often repetitious, that they'd been having over a long period of time. The thoughts come first, and they make the feelings." pg. 21-22
"ARTEN: The ego's specialty is changing the truth, whether it's the Vedanta, Lao-tzu, Buddha, or A Course in Miracles. The only solution to that is what we've been saying to you since the '90s: you've got to undo the ego, or the ego will continue to undo the truth. It can't help it. That's what the ego does. It's like a survival machine. And of course the students and teachers don't know that they're changing the truth. It's like projection. They don't know they're doing that either. They just think they're right. GARY: And the cause is unconscious resistance to the truth?" pg. 27
"LAO-TZU: What a human being sees is coming from the self, which is mind, and is not being done to a person, the way most people experience it. Almost all beings see themselves as victims of a world outside of them. And if the world was outside of them they would be victims. But the thought of the world of multiplicity is not without but within, and then is seen as being without. The idea has not left the mind, where it has always remained. And this is the only place the thought can be changed and the problem truly dealt with. The truth is the Tao, and the Tao is One. It has no parts. It does not collide with other things or make noises. It simply is. It needs only to be. And you need only to be." pg. 33
"LAO-TZU: Do not think you need anything. To need something is to be a prisoner of it. To need nothing is to be rich, for you already have everything you need." pg. 35
"PURSAH: These are the kinds of experiences every seeker has at some time, in some lifetime. That time may not be in the lifetime you are experiencing, even if you are on the path. You may have already had such experiences in another lifetime, and are supposed to focus on discipline more in this lifetime without repeating experiences you've already had. That's why no one should compare their experiences to someone else's. No step along the way is by accident, and neither are any of the experiences you have, or don't appear to have, along the way." pg. 37
"One of the most common New Age beliefs is that God created the dualistic universe so He could experience Himself. The insanity of that idea is almost never questioned. It's like saying that in order to enjoy, appreciate, and experience the orgasmic joy of sex you have to shoot yourself in the stomach so you'll have a dualistic experience to compare it to. But God is not insane. The truth is a constant state, and as both the Course and the Bible have said, God is still perfect love. This dream world is the opposite of perfect, but the reality of God gives us a perfect home to go home to. To go home to that real world, however, one has to wake up from this one. There are not two real worlds. The math of nondualism is very simple. It always comes out to one." pg. 41
"As the years of traveling went on, I noticed my dreams at night could be influenced by the number of people in the area. If I was in a quiet place--like Cedar Rapids, Iowa--my dreams were usually very peaceful and tranquil, except in the rare event there was someone close by in a condition of great conflict. On the other hand, if I was in a big city--like Guangzhou, China, which has 13 million people--I'd often have active, chaotic dreams that sometimes included violence. As I slept, my mind was actually tuning in to the minds of others in the area." pg. 41
"This is where you want to realize that people are thrown by the ego to be a certain way. They are the way that they are because that's the way they're supposed to be in order to have the experiences they've been set up for, and they don't know why because it's all unconscious." pg. 43
"GARY: You're saying that what happens is already predetermined, but I still have the power to practice forgiveness at the level of the mind, and be free of feeling the uncomfortable effects of whatever happens." pg. 45
"ARTEN: Gary, at the end of the day you've got to remember that even though people may report beneficial experiences from taking ayahuasca, we're still talking about a drug, a hallucinogen. And the truth is you never really know how someone is going to react to a hallucinogen. Every ego mind and brain is different, which the ego would have no other way, and it's possible for someone to have a bad reaction, one that could scar them. So despite the good reports you've heard, we simply can't recommend to people that they take a drug. PURSAH: Remember, what you experience under the influence of a hallucinogen is not real. Yes, you could argue that none of this is real either, and you'd be right. But it's possible to come to the exact same realizations people have while taking ayahuasca withouth taking the drug. And that's the path we recommend." pg. 48
"ARTEN: Although Atlantis was an extremely intelligent society, originally founded by your ancestors who were not from this planet, they made the same mistake your civilization is making today. Despite there being a very spiritual and sophisticated minority, the majority chose the duality of the physical, or materialistic, instead of the pure nonduality of spirit. Remember, just because beings are intelligent and technologically advanced, it doesn't necessarily mean they're spiritually advanced." pg. 62
"I like Einstein's quote: 'The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.'" pg. 62
"Eventually, the pain you feel for the one you appear to have lost goes away, but the love doesn't. It will always be there. The love is real, the pain isn't. And isn't it interesting that the most real thing we have in our lives is something that you can't see? You can't see love. You can see love in action, but you can't see the love behind it.This is also true of the Kingdom of Heaven. You can't see it with the body's eyes, yet it's the most real thing that there is. We will return to a world we can't presently see, although it can be temporarily experienced, even while we appear to be here. Then a permanent experience will come where there will be only reality, an awareness of a constant state of oneness, and the only thing that is real--love--will be all that there is." pg. 66
"PURSAH: We'll appear to Cindy if the time is right. That depends on her too, you know. Because we're the Holy Spirit taking on a form in order to communicate, we're aware of the readiness of all people to have appropriate mystical experiences. Some people don't need them right now. And some people need them as a way of encouragement." pg. 68
"GARY: Hey, doesn't that contradict the idea that the script is written and all this is predetermined? ARTEN: No. According to the Course, you do still have one power as a prisoner of this world, remember? GARY: Oh yeah, I remember. The power of decision. I can choose with the Holy Spirit. I can decide to see everything right. That would mean watching this movie I used to think was real and listening to the Holy Spirit's interpretation of it instead of the ego's story. That in turn leads to a different experience. So you're saying it was my own progress that told you I was ready for a different experience. It's the same movie, but I was finally ready to listen to the right interpretation. ARTEN: Yes, which is not your interpretation, but the Guidance of the Holy Spirit. People need to be willing to resign as their own teacher, for as the Course says, they were poorly taught. But that takes a certain amount of humility." pg. 69
"Although Siddhartha had not suffered greatly in his life, he missed Yasodhara. He briefly considered visiting home, but then had another idea. He realized that missing her and feeling like he had to perform certain acts was a form of suffering, of being chained to the world. And if you're chained to it, you're dependent upon it, which makes you a slave to it. He wanted to be free--free of the world and free of any form of suffering, which the Hindus called dukkha. (Later, Buddhists would also call it dukkha.) It was then he had another great revelation: suffering is caused by desire. What if you didn't need anything? Then you wouldn't suffer when you didn't have it. And why would you need it if it's not real? And if you didn't have to get anything from anyone, then you could have an authentic relationship with them. You didn't have to be an ascetic and physically give up the world in order to do this. It was something that could and should be done with the mind." pg. 73-74
"ARTEN: No one would blame him for doing that and for wanting to find him. We just want you to notice that now he's looking for something that seems to be outside of him. And if something is outside of you and you're making it real, then you're not in a condition of oneness, you're in a condition of separation. This change of events has once again brought up desire in Siddhartha: the desire to find his son. And desire leads to suffering. It's a circular condition." pg. 76
"Knowing that their egos needed to be completely undone, they practiced not making the dream real. Siddhartha's suffering was soon healed. One of the pieces of the puzzle is that if the dream isn't real, there's no need to desire it, and without desire there is no suffering. But they took that tenet of Buddhism even further. If the body is just part of a dream, then it's not real, which means the pain you feel is not real either. You're not feeling real pain. You're having a dream of pain. And because a dream is in your mind, you can change your mind about it." pg. 78
"Siddhartha and Rahula forgave their lives. They forgave the isolation they felt in the palace. They let go of the hurt of missing Yasodhara. It's not that they didn't remember. Some people mistakenly think that if you completely forgive something, then it disappears from your mind and you never think of it again. That's not true. The difference is that when you remember something that was painful in the past, it no longer has any effect on you. It doesn't hurt anymore. It becomes neutral instead of painful. That's how you know you've forgiven it. And they didn't think in terms of forgiveness back then; they simply thought of it as not making it real because it's just a dream, which is one of the most essential realizations of forgiveness." pg. 78
So much more that I didn't have room to include here!

Great insights into Past Lives within the illusion
Interesting insights into the spiritual journey of Christ and Buddha. It also reminded me to once again focus on the lessons of forgiveness, no matter how big or small that lesson might appear to be.
His clear explanations of the meaning behind the teachings of ACIM are invaluable.
I know he is right when he says 'there can only be one interpretation of the course'.
Many have skirted around this real meaning for years - even me. But once you look at what it is saying without prejudice, you will come to the same conclusion.
I especially liked the parts where he shares the information from Arden and Pursa about lifetimes on other planets and civilizations long since forgotten on this planet.
Thank you Gary for writing such a wonderful helper to course students.
I wish i could go back in time... back to those unspoiled moments in our relationship Before hurt ever touched our hearts, before doubt ever entered our minds. Because if i could go back and start from those moments once more, I would hold you longer never miss a chance to tell you How much you mean to me... and i would never, ever hurt you But i know we can't go back to those days I know i can't erase the mistakes. I can't take away the questions you must have Or the hurt we have both felt But i can assure you one thing: I love you- as i did then and always will
I find Gary's books annoying, all except the first one. Rated as literature, um, well, maybe three stars. Rated as forgiveness opportunity? Millions and billions of stars. This book helped me! The dream of a person who gets annoyed is passing away.
I have read all of Gary's books once; some twice some three times. It is good for me to pay attention to the message of A Course in Miracles on a daily basis. Gary helps me focus on my function. He has an unusual approach to help me understand a pretty complex metaphysical lesson.
I always love Gary's books and the simple translation of the heart of ACiM. I gain a lot from the gentle playful reminders and always tear right through them. This book is no exception—a quick, fun read that mostly stays true to what the Course is really about.
I have to give it 3 stars though because I wouldn't recommend this for someone who isn't already deeply into A Course in Miracles; there's too much wacky stuff that doesn't have anything to do with the heart of the message. Even the concept of reincarnation the course clearly states as "impossible" in any real sense, and potentially useful but also potentially harmful.
"In the ultimate sense, reincarnation is impossible. There is no past or future, and the idea of birth into a body has no meaning either once or many times. Reincarnation cannot, then, be true in any real sense. Our only question should be, "Is the concept helpful?" And that depends, of course, on what it is used for. If it is used to strengthen the recognition of the eternal nature of life, it is helpful indeed. Is any other question about it really useful in lighting up the way? Like many other beliefs, it can be bitterly misused. At least, such misuse offers preoccupation and perhaps pride in the past. At worst, it induces inertia in the present. In between, many kinds of folly are possible."
I got frustrated with this book and stopped listening to it (Audible) and then I started up again. Gary Renard is a good teacher of ACIM. He presents it so well, simple almost. But he is a person and his ego comes through. In this book, his ideas on Hinduism and the Vedas was way too simple for me and that's when I switched off. The next day I decided to skip that chapter. It is a good read for ACIM students just remember it's written by a man. Even one that may channel Ascended Masters, their voice is still coming through him and therefor his opinions colour everything. He makes himself special, something ACIM discourages, but Gary would have us believe that in a past life he was St Thomas and in a future one he is an Ascended Master. His wife too. If there is no time as ACIM teachers, I don't understand why an ACIM teacher would be so obsessed with the past. Repeatedly asking if he can become enlightened now, in this life rather than to go on and have one more as the Ascended Master became ridiculous. I can't recommend this book.
Very interesting with loads more ACIM wisdom reinforced
Some may wonder whether Buddha and Jesus knew each other in many lifetimes - myself included. Whether its true or not doesn’t really matter to me. As always, the real joy of this book is the constant re-enforcement and further clarification of the course
By reviewing their previous lives and the spiritual paths they followed in those lifetimes, the book really clearly shows the reader the difference between dualism, non-dualism and pure non-dualism. I found this really helpful as well as the anecdotes from their lives that help clarify the meaning of the Course.
it is another form of the book named “A course in Miracle”, It is very interesting that the conversation about our super masters like Jesus、Buddha 、Laozi and the relationship among them as well as their enlightenments.also it tell us the core of ACIM that only the forgiveness in world is needed to be done by us,meanwhile anywhere and anytime listen to the only one Holy Spirit in our mind.let us cheer up when we forgive anything and the world is nothing in mind but the God exists in our mind,God will let us awake. Thanks for the author Gary R.Renard.
- This book has some interesting ideas about the "lifetimes" Jesus and Buddha supposedly knew each other...It is interesting to read, but as in all things, should be taken with a grain of salt, because who really knows if any of it is true?? - Also, only about 2/3 of the book relates to these two Ascended Masters' lifetimes together...and latter 1/3 is basically "filler" to make the book a reasonable length and not too short... - As in many of Renard's books, he repeats and repeats many of the Course's main concepts of forgiveness, undoing the Ego, etc. so nothing new here.
Consistent with the pure non-dualistic system of thought. This book has brought even more clarity to the teachings of ACIM. After All, understanding the ineffable nature of our own being is difficult to remember in this world of dreams. We need teachers like Gary to light our path.
Gary Reynard has written another book with the help of his guides and angels, Arten and Pursah. Their explanations of A Course in a Miracles are so helpful in explaining the concepts which are written in language which is quite obscure to the beginner. Thank you to Gary, Arten, Pursah and St. Thomas!
Nothing else needs saying. This book fills in a lot that was previously sketchy in terms of the historical connections, and it deepens the meaning of working with the Course even more.
This book is my first Gary Renard's read. The book was very easy to connect and understand. At instance, you find yourself lost in your own thoughts struggling to accept few unuversal truth. The insights are very informative. Overall, it is unique and a lot can be leant from this spiritual read.
For the gift of this book. Thanks to all who have brought it to me. Somehow knowing of the trials of a couple of Jesus lives has made me feel even closer to him.
This book’s premiss is little offsetting at first. But as one “allows” Jesus, Buddha and oneself wider spiritual vision, this book becomes more and more “real” and thus a clear guide for one’s life. Thank you Gary!
Started well…then it didn’t made sense to know about the authors favorite movies. Yes trying to connect it to the vibe of the book but…wouldn’t read it again…pitty is not rented and I had to pay for it
