Like the previous reviewer, I too received a free copy of this novel. I agree with much of what was said in the previous review regarding errors in the text which should have been eliminated in proof-reading but have to say that, all in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the read.
As a bloke I must admit that I squirmed at the levels of abuse inflicted on Charlotte the central character by Joe and for much of the work I could not stop myself from thinking to myself "Run! Charlotte! Run!". In the end though Joe receives his just desserts and Charlotte emerges to start afresh as the likeable, charming and intelligent character that she is, A very enjoyable read.

I won a signed copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway by the author.

First impressions: I really liked the front cover. I thought that the painting on the front by Andi Wright was very clever and artistic [it was inspired by the work of Adriano Trapani].

The story itself is very engaging and moving. It really drew me in and I felt for Laura (the protagonist) and found myself gripped by her story and interested in finding out what would end up happening to her. It was also paced well and was quite informative about the impact and effects such an abusive relationship can have on people. I thought it was brave of the author to focus on such a distressing topic for her first novel and good that it was covered so intimately within the book. It was obviously well thought out/researched, and Adams states that she has been working as a qualified counsellor in the domestic violence services in the 'About the Author' section at the beginning. With that knowledge, I thought it would have been good if the author had also included some information or website links offering advice about things like reporting abuse if the reader thinks someone they know may be a victim of domestic violence.

The narrative did jump around a bit at the beginning which could be a bit confusing/off-putting for some readers. It begins on a reef trip in Cairn and then rather quickly follows with the protagonist
driving in a car out of Brisbane and it was unclear if this directly followed on or if there was a gap in the timeline. Chapter 2 then also jumps back again to start reliving childhood memories of fishing trips with her Grandad. However, after that it all followed on quite smoothly and flowed much better.

Unfortunately I found quite a lot of mistakes/typos in the print edition which ultimately distracted me from the story so, although I enjoyed the book overall, I was disappointed these had not been picked up on by the proof-reader and felt that because of them I could not rank 'With This Ring..." any higher. However, it was still an enjoyable read and, if all these errors were removed/corrected in a later edition this would definitely get a much higher rating.
