Killing Reapers is just another day in the life of a Keeper.

Kat Davenport spends her nights guarding souls. The Bay Area graveyards are a hot bed for Reaper activity and slow nights are rare. She is good at what she does and loves every minute of it. But when she is suddenly reassigned to the blink and you’ll miss it, town of Summer Hollow, she is far from happy about the move.

Gregory Esmond has taken over the graveyard in Summer Hollow. His family has guarded this Graveyard for generations and now it was all his … that is, except for the girl from the Bay Area who was assigned to help him. Kat was loud mouthed, inappropriate at times and fearless. Two out of three of those things were completely the opposite of him.

The two Keepers must learn to work together despite their differences. Their lives will depend on it.

Jennifer Malone Wright is best known for her best selling novella series, The Vampire Hunter’s Daughter. Other works include the follow up to The Vampire Hunter’s Daughter series called The Arcadia Falls Chronicles, The Graveyard Guardians series and her full length vampire novel called Savior (A Higher Collective Novel).

She resides in the beautiful mountains of northern Idaho with her husband and five children where she practices preparing for the zombie apocalypse. Just kidding!

But seriously, between the craziness of taking care of her children, Jennifer has little time left for herself. The time she does have left, usually leading far into the night, is spent working on her beloved fiction or chatting with her equally crazy friends.

What another amazing story in the Graveyard Guardian series. I just love this one and it brings everything together.

The characters are phenomenal! I loved this story of how Kat and Greg met and where the Esmond family starts.

The story-line was incredible. I was completely sucked right into the story from beginning to end. This author has a way with words that will entice you to continue to read and crave to read more. I highly recommend this read.

3.5 stars, not 4.

Of all of the books in this first part of the series, this is easily the most well written.
The writing flows naturally, detailing the backstory of how the children's parents met. There is no swearing, no sex that doesn't relate to the passage and the background is left to develop without distraction. The first encounter with a Reaper sets the scene nicely for a story that unfortunately never gets to develop. It is only for this reason that this book gets rated this well.

The book is, in essence, just a rehash of what we already know from book 1, albeit with how the parents met and the beginning of their relationship.
There are the usual editing errors that are present throughout all 4 books (your instead of you're repeatedly for example). There is also the annoying trend across all 4 books of two complete strangers meeting and instantly being attracted to each other.

Definitely not for me. There are much better YA / Urban Fantasy books out there.

Summer Hollow is the prequel novella in the Graveyard Guardians series by Jennifer Malone Wright. It is a paranormal adventure/urban fantasy series with supernatural elements, dramatic developments, action, danger, Keepers vs Reapers, and romance.
The Series Contains:

~Summer Hollow (Graveyard Guardians #0.5) - Prequel Novella
Killing Reapers is just another day in the life of a Keeper.
Kat Davenport spends her nights guarding souls and attends high school by day. The Bay Area graveyards are a hot bed for Reaper activity and slow nights are rare. She is good at what she does and loves every minute of it. But when she and her father are suddenly reassigned to the blink and you’ll miss it town of Summer Hollow, she is far from happy about the move. Gregory Estmond has taken over the graveyard in Summer Hollow.

I really wanted to LOVE this series, as it promises everything I love to find in a great story. But I just couldn’t find my groove here, and felt it was very slow in parts, with info dumps in some areas, while lacking info/details in others. After finishing the first four books in the series, I won’t be continuing with the other (3) books.
But maybe this is just a ‘me’ thing- so if this sounds like something you might like, you should probably grab yourself a copy and make up your own mind.
Full Review still to come.-
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Jennifer Malone Wright!

Kat Davenport lives with her family in the Bay Area and guards souls by night, but during the day she goes to school. With the training she has received, she is good at what she does, so when she is reassigned to guard the graveyard in Summer Hollow, she is not impressed. Gregory Esmond has taken over the graveyard in Summer Hollow following the death of his parents, so it is not easy to share the graveyard with this new arrival. Kat to him is loud-mouthed, inappropriate at times and completely fearless - almost a complete opposite from himself. Can they sort things out in order to work together? After all, their lives depend on it.

I really liked this prequel to the series which was a nice introduction and explained a few things. I loved Kat and Gregory and their relationship which was very sweet. I did, however, not enjoy the switch to many years later in the later stages of the book. I found that a little strange. Well written, it was easy to read and understand.

Ahhhhhh..... in the beginning, before the Estmonds were five against many... they were two who had yet to meet.

Being a huge fan of the Graveyard Guardians, I was super excited to be able to take a step back and see how it all began for this family of Keepers. As usual I was not disappointed. This is a super fun story to get sucked in to. I very much recommend it and hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did! I also recommend continuing on if you haven't already with the Graveyard Guardians and pick a side... Keeper or Reaper... or perhaps a touch of both???

I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. A Keeper is a guardian of souls who haven't crossed over. They protect the souls from Reapers who feed off the souls to stay alive. Summer Hollow is the story of how Greg and Kat met and fell in love. This prequel was well-written and I loved the characters. I can't wait to begin the Graveyard Series which just happens to be on my kindle.....yay! I found a new paranormal author to fan over!

This wasn't the worst novella ever, but JMW really didn't make me understand why the two main characters actually like each other, so the story really didn't make sense to me. It felt as if she went in with "oh, it's a prequel, everyone already knows they were really in love" and forgot to actually show it to us, and make me understand it - which... yeah, did not really work.

This is a cute short story about how the Estmond Clan started. How their parents found each other. This was more about finding themselves and each other. Yes it mentioned the Keepers and Reapers but the story was more about Kat and Greg. I liked it.

Super

I am normally not one who like novellas, they are too short for me. With that said, this explains a lot. I have read book one in the series and this solidified some things for me. Awesome read.

I'm a huge fan of this series. I loved seeing how it all began with Greg and Kat. If you are new to the series, it's a fantastic introduction with a nice lead into book 1.

I was going through my kindle and stumble upon this and I enjoyed it.

The main characters Kat and Gregory meet at Gregory’s parents funeral and they work together to protect the souls in Gregory’s family graveyard from the Reapers who want to consume them.

When going through his parent belongings they find this ancient prophecy about a child who is born on the seventh day of the seventh month will unite the Keepers and Reapers.

I enjoyed this quick glimpse into the world of Keeper and Reapers it was different to the usual supernatural books I’ve read.
