Maggie Ironcloud spent the last twenty-five years of her life raising three kids and running the family bar and grille. But when her mother dies, she’s confronted with some hard facts, of how her mother’s life was wasted, and how her own life had been ripped off the rails and had never gotten back on. For the last two years, she has wandered the country, trying to find and grab onto a new life. But what she finds, is a bear.
This one focuses on Stormy, Roxy and Bly's mother, Maggie, who ran away from Durango shortly after Stormy returned (in Broken Bear). She decided to start living life and has been traveling the country finding herself. She's settled a bit in this small town and works as a waitress, and that's how she meets Ashe, the youngest Stone brother. She's about 20 years younger than him but the sex between them is rocking and Maggie, despite her cynicism and desire to stay emotionally hardened, finds herself falling in love with Ashe. Both Ashe's bear and Maggie's puma are screaming "mate" when they're together, but Maggie isn't sure she's ready.
Easily the best of the bunch...and definitely the steamiest. I liked the age difference (not that it matters much when they both look like they're 20) and how we see Maggie's slow acceptance of her feelings for Ashe. The sex starts out fast, but the feelings creep in a bit more gradually. And the best part about this story compared to the others is that the focus of this entire story is clearly Maggie and Ashe's relationship, rather than the action sub-plot. The action just enhances the story, but this is all about Maggie and Ashe. I liked them as a pair and I loved the epilogue as we see the whole reunion.
