For the short story Disturbed, I'm going to go with 4.5, rounded up for reasons I will explain momentarily.

This is a solid short story if you are looking for some hard-core horror. It's brutal. It's depraved. It's violent. It's a bit gross, too. Okay, actually quite gross. If you have any sort of trigger sensitivities and considering title, well, all I can say to that is... well actually I'll just paraphrase from a classic, awesome movie: "Th[is] is not the [story] you are looking for." [insert wave of hand here] "[You] can go about [your] business." [insert second wave of the hand here] "Move along..."

Believe it or not, however, there were a few places I thought LeeAnn could have punched up the stomach-churning-ness. The sister of this not-so-merry group of antagonists is described as the most deformed sibling because of all the stuff the parents put her through. It was described as much as I might have expected. I would have liked a more vivid description of the extent and location of the deformity or how her face was actually affected. But this is a very, very soft criticism.

So, the upgrade. First, that cover. Good grief! It's like the artist used a depraved psycho as an artistic consultant or something. Seriously, if that cover doesn't give you the shakes all by itself, I'm not sure I want to hang out with you. Second, and this is where the author really got me... was that for such a short tale, this packs a heckuva wallop. Probably gonna stick with me for a good long while. This little nightmare of a tale makes me really, really, REALLY glad I don't live near a farm.

I look forward to seeing what else Emery LeeAnn can do to make my eyes go wide with fear when I read. That's no easy feat and I think she's up to the challenge.

It’s not often I read something and think, “what’s the point?”, but I genuinely don’t understand why this was written. It was 17 pages and free, so no rating because there was no time/money spent on it, so at least there’s that.

Girl escapes foster home and gets abducted by “clan” of *insert stereotypical inbred Texan chainsaw massacre-esq cannibals*, and is tortured, raped, burned alive, and eaten.

The story I actually read is called “A love letter to Satan” which was in the most popular section on Godless so I decided to give it a try. Can’t say I’m too disappointed or surprised about the blandness of it, it was only 27p so it didn’t take me long to get through the whole thing. But, no, don’t waste your time. It’s not terrible or anything, just severely undercooked.

There was no character development, no plot either. Just a quick rape, torture, and burn then it was done. Disappointing and wish I'd never bothered😕

I picked this up because it was free and sounded okay not realizing this was extreme horror. But regardless it's disappointing, stereotypical, and not really well written. I wouldn't recommend this considering that and the content... I can handle and enjoy some extreme horror but this just wasn't it.

If you do (for some reason) want to check this out as it's only 17 pages TW for S.A, cannibalism, torture, and mild gore.

Emery LeeAnn - really knows how to write vividly. She has real talent. For a very short book, it sure packs a punch. "POW!" Well-written, And very graphic/gory. Bloody disgusting! Just the way I like it! We have this cannibalistic homicidal inbred family of "5" {King, Grace, Bert, Jim Bob, and Harold} who love a good old-fashion BBQ! So, come along, grab some sweet tea and see what these psychos have in store for their newest victim.....

Not sure how this was even considered a book. Should have just been a short story within a collection of other short stories book. It was just a very quick brutal torture and rape with no good story to it. I could see it being a good quick read if it was 100 pages long. But this was pointless imo

I thought I'd try a few of these 15 minute reads from Kindle to see how they compare quality wise to other short stories I've read.

Well, that was gross ..... but in a good way. Fair warning, DO NOT read this while eating! Totally put me off my Coco Puffs.
Extremely well written tale with descriptions of the characters that brought them to life. The only thing wrong about the whole piece was that I wanted more! A thrilling, visceral introduction to a new author. I can't wait to read more of her offerings.

This story may be short, but it is detailed and descriptive, the title describes it perfectly... disturbing. I'm totally freaked out and fascinated at the same time, my heart was fearfully pumping so fast. No doubt, I am sleeping with the lights on and when I go anywhere for the next few days, I will be looking over my shoulder, double-time. Definitely reading more by this author, she has truly gained a fan.

Definitely disturbing!

Short on pages, but long on gruesome brutality. It reminded me of the XFiles episode Home and had a The Hills Have Eyes feel to it. I would have loved for this to be longer.

Let’s all pray for a second, we need it after this reading of Disturbed. “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord, my soul to keep; keep me safe through the night, and wake me with the morning light. If I should die before I wake, I pray for Lord my soul to take. Amen.” This was the first time I have ever read anything by Emery LeeAnn, and I regret beforehand I did not say this prayer before reading Disturbed. In a way this prayer above fits perfectly with the short story that I experienced so blindly. Even though it is a very quick read it is the insanely disturbing environment that you are put in with the main character, Jules, who is about endure one of the worst nightmares any one could ever go through. From the beginning to the end, your mouth will be open in shock, and possibly degrade your mind in the process. Do you dare to be Disturbed by Emery LeeAnn? Are you prepared for hell itself in the souls of five? If you are feeling piqued, then this is the short you need to experience. Be bold and courageous as you enter in the words and writing style of LeeAnn.

Emery LeeAnn is very talented; she is another queen towards horror in its self- including the torture and existence of undesirable boundaries that no one should face. LeeAnn’s short reminds me of Nothing But Trouble meets The Hills Have Eyes. I would hate to know exactly what is going through her intertwined nerves while she uses her skills full force to write, LeeAnn is a very disturbed individual indeed and I desire more from her in the future; to see her rise into the great sanctions of the horror world, watching her put fears into reality. We are all sick in our certain kind of way, and yes I loved reading this- I would love to read more of this. The only thing I hated was, it was so short. Bring forth the madness of these deranged, disturbed souls and give us more backgrounds of these characters you had the audacity to share with us. I demand more! She has offered this short story for free but why? Well, for one it is a very powerful short read and for two, it is to experience just a hint of what LeeAnn is capable of. Be warned, Disturbed will disgust you and make you want to scratch your eyes out so you cannot continue to read any more… hypothetically, of course.

This book is a quick read. So worth it. It could very well be taken out of of n episode of The X Files. Absolutely terrifying. Gross, sick and twisted. I loved every moment.

This was a nice, short, but crazy read. Despite the short nature of the story, the author creates a story of a depraved family that will do anything to keep their way of living. The descriptions are S-tier, although distribuing. Let's just say the idea of entertainment for the family is vile. Just by the start where it said, "Anybody who ends up in their small town will never make it out," was enough to hook me in.

This was a good short read after all the longer works I have been reading lately.

Grammar issues did push this down to a 4 star. If you don't mind that, you will enjoy this short story!

DISTURBED is a perfect example of how depraved and creative Emery Leeann is! Using an extremely brief amount of words, she was quickly able to suck me into the story of an extremely fascinating, disturbed family. As is typical of her, the descriptions were so good that I could picture myself in the room with the characters and could practically feel the emotions they felt. Also typical of her writing, though, DISTURBED needs to be proofread.

The bottom line: If you love horror and can ignore the grammar and punctuation issues, this will surely be a 5-star favorite!!

Well this short, standalone book was brilliant. Just a short story that lacks a HUGE punch.

I absolutely loved it, and it is DISTURBING but I LOVED it. I felt myself wanting it to be a book with hundreds of pages 😂.
