In the finale of Caylin's Story, Caylin learns more about her descendent and why she will be so important to the future of the world. Together, Caylin and Aiden will face the challenges placed in their path by Lucifer and his men, and show why faith, loyalty, and love can defeat even the princes of Hell.
Once upon a time, a little girl was born on a cold winter morning in the heart of Seoul, Korea. She was brought to America by her parents and raised in the Deep South where the words ma'am and y'all became an integrated part of her lexicon. She wrote her first novel at the age of eight and continued writing on and off during her teenage years. In college she studied biology and chemistry and finally combined the two by earning a master's degree in biochemistry. After that she moved to Yankee land where she lived for four years working in a laboratory at Cornell University. Homesickness and snow aversion forced her back South where she lives in the land which spawned Elvis Presley, Oprah Winfrey, John Grisham and B.B. King. After finding her Prince Charming, she gave birth to a wondrous gift named Caylin and they all lived happily ever after.
The second book to the Harvester of Light trilogy will be available for purchase no later than December 2012.
I read the Watchers Trilogy and the Chronicles and they were all amazing so I decided to read Caylin's story. It was ok, but I was hoping that there would be an actual ending after so many books. It had a weird ending because the story is going to be continued through more books called Aiden's story. I think those books will also be good, but I will eventually want a definite ending to the stories.
i just can't get enough of these books, although all I wanted was to see how Malcom reacted to being told what he has to do and figure out whatever is happening with Mae and her new puppy ;-). But I'm glad they're finally happy for now I guess. I'll just have to wait for the next series. Whomevers POV they may be in.
This book started off where the first book finished. This is a continuation of Caylin and Aiden’s love story and their fight against Lucifer and the Princes of Hell. I loved meeting the other Watchers that were chosen as the protectors of Caylin’s descendents and thought it was such a lovely moment when Caylin saw the beautiful artwork that her chosen created in her Art Studio since it was destroyed. Mae and her “Puppy” Tristan were cute and I wonder why Tristan felt so protective of Mae that he was able to break the connection to his father Rolph and I’m looking forward to finding more about it when I get around to reading their story Sweet Devotion. It makes perfect sense for Jered to help Tristan as they need each other as it will hopefully help Jered earn a wee bit of forgiveness for how bad a father he was to his own son Silas and Jered will be Tristan’s friend as well as a second father. They can be each other’s family. I’m looking forward to getting more of Caylin and Aiden and finding more about Aiden’s life before he decided to give up drinking human bl*od when I read Aiden next. I’d recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.
This series is just wonderful. I love all of SJ West's books that I have read so far. I am reading them in the suggested order, so this is my third set of her books. I really can't express how much I like these books and they are exactly what I have been looking for. I am a reading coach and have a masters degree in education, so I have read thousands of books over the last 20 years, and I just can't say enough wonderful things about these books. I highly recommend them, and I hope she continues to write more. I also love that they are in the same universe, so I still get to read updates on characters from the previous series. Forgive the grammatical errors, if any, I am typing on a little tablet, and I am not very good at it! I just had to leave a review!
So far I have not been disappointed in one book Ms. West has written. Eager to get started on the next. What a talented writer! To be able to carry others to a different realm make a person have to pinch themselves to make sure aren't in the story then feel the disappointment they arent! An amazing and talented writer. You most certainly not want to miss any of her books!!!
Caylin's Story #2 This is the finale of this duology in the Watcher universe, though there is another book which, though considered a standalone, is what I would consider a part of this particular series because it has to do with Aiden and Caylin. I'll be reading that one next.
This series is very YA. I liked it but I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous watcher books I've read. Still worth the read though. Enjoy!
I enjoyed the rest of Caylin and Aiden’s story. I really liked Aiden more as the book goes on. He doesn’t come across very well in some of the past books. However, he turns out to be so much more than what I thought.
Both books are narrated by Brittany Pressley and she does a great job. She is very easy to listen too.
Devoted is book 2 of S. J. West Watchers Series, Caylin's Story. Caylin and Adian find each other but have to wait to be together. Once their time comes however, they face danger. The love of a Soulmate is more powerful than you know and may just be enough to save the world.
Lucifer throws down a challenge to Kaylin and Aiden. He was Kaylin dead and her Lilith power out of the way. He also wants her mother (Lilly) dead as well. He wants the Lilith line of strong women eliminated from the world. It is also revealed that he stole something from God when he was last in heaven and God wants it back.
This is the tenth S.J West book I have read and it was tough to get through. The story was slow, I don’t ever want to see “beautiful” in another book, and the interaction of Caylin and Aiden was completely annoying. Nothing really happened until til the 17th chapter. Glad this wasn’t the first I read bc all others were amazing.
GREAT READ and it flows in with all the other books and keeps you informed also about the others in the other books I love how all these books connects with each other. everyone should try these books I give this 5 stars!
This book was so amazing. I couldn't even put it down.
I loved the book. It had just the right pace for the events that took place. I could even feel when Aiden and Cailyn truly loved and cared for each other. It was well written book.
I love this couple so much. I really do and anytime I get with them I love. The plot is so well developed. It takes us on quite the adventure. The final battle in the story felt just a bit rushed but with the story overall I loved every second of it.
I loved reading Caylin's story. I love how the characters were brought into the story and how it develops. This was fantastic read. I would definitely recommend it
I liked this book only because of the continuing story but it was really slow in my opinion. There wasn’t very much action. However, the action there was, was really good.
Good story. Caylin and Aidan fight the good fight. There are still a few of Lucifer’s princes on the loose to search for. Caylin is getting ready for college.
I read thru the Watchers Trilogy, the Chronicles, then Caylins books since the 10th and was not disappointed....if you like Paranormal Romance full of Super Powers, Hot Angels and corrupted demons then this author is for you. SJ West has done a fantastic job on the Caylin series....PG 13 rated so not too bad for the young at heart girls....enough swooning and making out sessions ;)
Lots of action and supernatural activity that made the story thrilling as always so wasnt disappointed. I cannot wait for more books of the side characters in these series. Will read them all again some other time because one of the best Angel and Demon series ever!!
I cannot wait for the continuation of Aidens story that we will get more of with Caylin later which may include a marriage or baby?? We will see what the author has in store for us...so excited.
Side notes....I think there is a story brewing for Mae and maybe Tristan...hum...48% of the book when Mae saves the wolf of his Watcher Father Rolph and she tells him he is a bad man.... "Come on, puppy." Mae says. "I'll take care of you." That was the funniest line ever in the book...lol
Fave quotes: "You're the only woman I love. Since the moment I saw you, you've become my everything." ~ Aiden
I Love You By Ella Wheeler Wilcox 1850–1919
I love your lips when they’re wet with wine And red with a wild desire; I love your eyes when the lovelight lies Lit with a passionate fire. I love your arms when the warm white flesh Touches mine in a fond embrace; I love your hair when the strands enmesh Your kisses against my face.
Not for me the cold, calm kiss Of a virgin’s bloodless love; Not for me the saint’s white bliss, Nor the heart of a spotless dove. But give me the love that so freely gives And laughs at the whole world’s blame, With your body so young and warm in my arms, It sets my poor heart aflame.
So kiss me sweet with your warm wet mouth, Still fragrant with ruby wine, And say with a fervor born of the South That your body and soul are mine. Clasp me close in your warm young arms, While the pale stars shine above, And we’ll live our whole young lives away In the joys of a living love.
Poem read in book by Caylin in Malcolm's class....swoonworthy performance reading to the invisible Aiden watching her in class ;)
4.0. To me, this duology was still not as good as the first two trilogies, but at least Devoted was much better than Timeless. Where that book fell short, this one had equal amounts passion and action (the fighting kind) … my favorite combination.
Plot: Caylin and Lilly visit Heaven and find out Caylin’s purpose in the battle against Lucifer and his men. She also finds out what her future holds for her and Aiden, and we get a hint of what’s to come for Malcolm.
Characters: Caylin was much more tolerable in this one. She was stronger and less whiney. I guess that’s what a good kissin’ will do to a girl. Speaking of which, Aiden was a lot more passionate this time around. It was interesting to see he handled his fear of slipping back into his old ways.
I have to say that I am really starting to like Malcolm. In Devoted, we learn more about his unrequited love for Lilly and his loneliness, and we find out that he is more vulnerable than we thought. Can’t wait to read about his future and that of Caylin’s descendent, Anna.
Oddly, my favorite character in this book may have been Mae, Brand and Lilly’s youngest daughter. Always trying to follow Malcolm’s phase trail, she runs into quite an interesting situation … one that will hopefully have its own book.
Writing: There were several spelling/punctuation/grammatical errors. Lots of homophones (an example of one is they’re instead of their), possessives without apostrophes, and plurals with apostrophes. They could be distracting at times.
The Bottom Line: While Caylin and Aiden really never had too many obstacles to overcome, the book gives a little closure to Caylin’s story. There’s not really a solid ending; West said that will be in another book from Aiden’s perspective, so that should be interesting. I’m doubting it will be as interesting as Malcolm, but I guess we’ll see.
A great wrap up to Caylin and Aiden's story!! One of the only things I have to complain about is the ending... it definitely wasn't as solid as it could have been and felt kind of rushed, with everything big happening in the last 20 pages, or so. For the enormity of what had to happen- basically attempting to defeat all 7 Princes of Hell- there wasn't really much action.
One of the things that I found myself intrigued with in this book is Tristan and how he's proved that you really can teach an old dog (aka Nephilim) new tricks! I truly hope that Tristan
I was going to finish this arc and go back to read the rest of The Watcher Chronicles... but found myself so intrigued with what will happen with Caylin's descendant that I decided to read the Redemption series next instead. Plus, what will become of poor Malcom!!
Devoted Book 2 Caylin's Story By S.J. West 28 July 2015
Starting the second book in this 2 book series was bitter sweet. If going in secession, I realized that this would be the last book that holds the characters I've grown to love and adore for 8 books now.
The continuation of this amazing story unfortunately will take place hundreds if not a thousand years in the future. So, except for a few core Angelic characters because of their immortality, the rest are no longer amongst the living.
This leaves me with an overwhelming sense of sadness almost grief, at the loss of these beloved characters. Author S.J. West however didn't disappoint!!! She truly weaved her storytelling web to continue the characters, their individual lives, connections and determination to complete the task set before them by God.
Fast paced, electrifying and filled with everything that kept my attentions and loyalty through the last 8 books. A truly magnificent continuation to the story!!! I Laughed, Cried, got Angry and even a bit enamored.... I'm not truly sure what the next installment of this saga will bring, but I'm definitely willing to continue down the Angelic and Heavenly rabbit whole just to see where it goes!!!
An Absolute and Definite 5 Star Read!!!
