If you can’t stop watching Doctor Foster and The Affair, you won’t be able to put down this chilling new four-part series.Michael and Ellie are that couple.
The ones who have it all.
Success, charm, trust…but no relationship is perfect and the events of the past cast a shadow over their charmed life together.
When lecturer Michael starts to mentor a new student, Ellie fears that history is repeating itself. As paranoia takes its ugly hold, it’s clear some things just can’t be forgotten…or forgiven.
What can I say this series gets better and better its inquisitive keeps you on your toes and I just had to keep reading it to find out what was going to happen.
I'm loving the characters and didn't want part 2 to end but there is a part three so that's what I'm reading next!
Would like to say thank you to netgalley for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
I thank Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review........ This is the 2nd part of this 4 part book and I must say I am really enjoying it so far. It's still a slow-paced domestic drama but it is so addictive. I'm completely engrossed. Just about to start part 3....
The Wife – Part Two: For Better, For Worse (The Wife series) by M.L. Roberts
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: general fiction (adult)
Well, part one had me gripped, and part two keeps up the “what is really going on” drama. Is Ellie paranoid, is Michael having an affair or is it all in her head.? I'm not sure I like either of them, she certainly needs help and he comes over as cold, and I just wonder why won't he talk to her? What happened to two people so in love? She steps up her actions to find evidence. I'm thinking one moment yes, he's acting as if he's hiding something and then I'm thinking, what the heck is this woman doing, does she really think that will help? Now we know what happened I do feel sorry for both, but we still only know barest details. Was it really just an obsessive student out of the blue or had Micheal given her reason to think he felt more for her. Then there's Michael and Ellie's best friend Liam. What does he know? What's his motivation.
There's really not much more revealed, a story line comes in that was pretty clear from book one it was going to be there but other than that its more of the same. And yet its curiously addictive. Lucky I have book three on my kindle....
What I hate though is that this is a four part book that could easily have been a stand alone, and for me waiting breaks the tension, the story loses impact. I had to go back and take a look at part one to recall what had happened. Each part is only around 100 pages, modeled I guess on TV specials which is fine for many readers, but one of the reason I don't watch TV. I want ALL the story, not just teases.
Stars: Four, curiously addicting even though not much actually happens. ARC supplied for review purposes by Netgalley and Publishers
-once again. very short book. -i liked this one better then the first one though! it’s diving deeper into the story and explaining more things. -i saw were someone reviewed this series and said that they wish the author would have just put all these books into one long book & i TOTALLY AGREE!!
A lot better than the book 1. Leaves you hanging yet again and i just need to keep reading to find out what happens. Character is crazy, kind of annoying, but wow someone just slap her some sense :)

I bought this on Kindle during the night as I could not sleep. I had finished Book 1 rather quickly, and was so annoyed at the end to find I had to purchase Book 2 to find out the rest of the story. I will not bother with Books 3 and 4, because I feel this was a complete rip off. It was down as a great psychological thriller. The wife was paranoid to the point she needed a Psychologist to sort her out. Due to some past imagined slight on her husband's past stalker, leading to her losing the baby, she was obsessed he was with every woman. Maybe he was I do not care. For someone with so much money, she had 5 businesses (Not a lot of education either), the husband was a Professor I am sure she could have afforded a private detective to gather concrete evidence. In my opinion these are like Mills and Boons ridiculous tosh. Do not waste your money, saying that they may suit other people. I like a book that is written well, with a believable story line. Never again will I be led down the garden path to read rubbish like this. I am still annoyed writing this.
We hit the ground running with that TERRIFYING opener as we discovered what happened. I was in complete shock! I couldn’t and still can’t believe what I just read. It was well…… shocking!
I can see why Ellie is the way she is now. I sympathise completely, ok well I can’t entirely agree with everything she is doing. But to be honest….I would do the same!!! But she’s losing grip on reality slowly and Michael just isn’t helping!! He’s cold and distant, and play acts in front of friends. How anyone could be expected to be just okay and loved on afterwards and that quick is beyond me!
I am riveted by this! I am eager to read the next one after that ending. Jeez. I don’t want it to go down that route…but I do! Plus it will make things more interesting in the next book, especially with some of the morals that will need to be reviewed.
I am enjoying how this has been serialised it makes it exciting and thrilling. You aren’t sure what will be uncovered before you come to the end! It also makes you feel like you are reading more books!!
These are strange books released in episode format ,they are very quick easy to read ,and it’s filled to brim with paranoia or is it ?.i am currently reading the third having enjoyed the first and this one the second and I surprised myself by actually being interested as didn’t think wd initially grab me as theyare so cheap and at times free to read ,so u are suspicious however I was pleasantly pleased , at this stage I’m still unclear if the hubby is cheating or the wife is unravelling or what the hell will happen with Liam but suspect something will and wow whatever and who ever turn out to be right there is a very clear unhealthy obsession here and may be distraction from her grief by focusing on her husband to focus the paint Keeps me reading and will request the fourth after the third Thanks to netgalley and the publishers
I loved Part One, and was thrilled when Part Two popped up on my Kindle. Was the wait worth it? Absolutely, even if I now have to be patient until the release of Part Three. The story of Michael, Ellie (and Liam) unfolds in a way that is both tense and frustrating. We learn the reasons behind Ellie's increasing paranoia and what has caused the gulf in her marriage. The author uses a repetitive style which, for me, works well as it builds the sense of drama. I see The Wife series as similar to a TV drama. Which is not a negative, as it teases the reader, and leaves them desperate for more. Until January 2018 …
BOOK 2 - EVEN DARKER THEN BOOK 1 - SECRETS, SUSPENSE AND LIES.
This is when the story really gets going and you start to realise what happened in their past to cause the way they are now.
This is a real page turner and I couldn't put it down, I was gripped and engrossed by what was happening and how the story was going and where it was leading to.
What has Michael done for Ellie? What can't Ellie let go of? Why won't Michael talk to Ellie? Who is Liam really?
Michael and Ellie seem to be drifting further apart, but why, she suspects he is having an affair, but he says he isn't, yet he is so secretive about everything.

So book 1- 'To Have and to Hold', intrigued me with its skilful buildup of psychological tension and in book 2 - 'For Better, For Worse', the story continues. Ellie's tragic past is revealed, which explains much about her current state of mind and motivation. The story is told entirely from Ellie's point of view, but the actions of others, who touch her life are important to this story. There is a profound, if not unexpected ending, making reading book 3 - 'In Sickness and In Health', essential. I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
This is part two of these books, as each book passes, I was trying to guess what was going to happen. but I didn't know what was going to happen next. I think all the characters are mad. but it makes it more thrilling and keeping you in suspense.
Thanks goes to net galley and the publishers for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Parts One and Two could have been combined and nothing would be lost. There was so much repetition I could have done a cut and paste to Save paper and time. I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn’t get into these boring characters and go-nowhere plot.
I don't know if Ellie is mentally ill or just self-centered. After reading.the first two books it becomes tiring to just hear her paranoia. Maybe she needs to start thinking about someone besides herself.
This book was better than the first, in that I know what the couples issues are. I'm not sure I will read the rest. I still feel this has dragged on enough.
Enjoyed these books but feel they could have been a two part series rather than four. I have not purchased #4 yet. I just hope it has an ending to her crazy obsession that he is having an affair. If he is, I really don’t blame him. She is an annoying character.
Better, in that the couples issues were reviled. The husband to me, is a cold tool. And once again, the story was dragging and repetitive. The good thing about these books , is that it got me to watch Dr. Foster on Netflix.
