If you can’t stop watching Doctor Foster and The Affair, you won’t be able to put down this chilling new four-part series.Michael and Ellie are that couple.
The ones who have it all.
Success, charm, trust…but no relationship is perfect and the events of the past cast a shadow over their charmed life together.
When lecturer Michael starts to mentor a new student, Ellie fears that history is repeating itself. As paranoia takes its ugly hold, it’s clear some things just can’t be forgotten…or forgiven.
The Wife – Part Three: In Sickness and In Health (The Wife series)

**Spoilers here for part one and two**
It was kind of obvious what was going to happen with Liam, and I don't see how Ellie rationalises it to herself. I know her thoughts, just find it skewed. As for Liam, well, with friends like that who needs enemies as the saying goes. Michael I still find really cold. He's warm and charming to everyone in public but when they're alone he just seems to shut her down. They went through a horrific experience, and he seems to feel Ellie should just be able to move on. I can't help wondering if perhaps he talked to her earlier whether she might have been able to but she's now in the throes of full obsession and paranoid. Or is she? After all its only paranoia if they're not out to get you, as the saying goes.... Its a little moved on finally, Michael seems to see Ellie has issues, but his solution? Well, weird...unless he really is hiding something and it certainly looks like it. Appearances can be deceiving though but that ending, well, can it be what it looks like or is there another explanation? I have the feeling book four is going to exonerate Michael in some way, explain all his mysterious activities innocently but Ellie's actions subsequently will affect them. Or not ;-) . I'm not good at predicting what will happen in a story.....
As I've said before, I hate is that this is a four part book that could easily have been a stand alone, a each part is only around 100 pages, for me waiting breaks the tension, the story loses impact. Sometimes it seems authors do this to maximise income, but that doesn't seem to be the case and all four parts at current price total £2.97, which is very reasonable. I think its done modeled on TV specials which is fine for many readers, but one of the reason I don't watch TV. I want ALL the story, not just teases. Still, looking at reviews this works fine for other readers, the old horses for courses stuff again.
Stars: Four, some progress but is all as it seems? Just wish book four was out now! ARC supplied for review purposes by Netgalley and Publishers
And so it continues .........I enjoyed part three better than part two ,the momentum is building and oh my her unravelling is well written ,her obsevissness really comes through and her delusional sense of one rule for one one rule for another is kinda the theme for this part She has lost her way even if turns out to be true he denial and justifications are not outweighing the mistrust and she still continues They may have if there is one got over an affair but the truth is not with this wife in the mix Controlling obsessional and grieving being the condition ,she is relentless to explore the pain from the past over and over and unpick it and then looking literally looking for trouble and lies in her husband I have no idea if he’s having an affair but Jesus without much evidence she’s convincing herself he is at the cost of her own well being I’m now convinced she just wants to be probed right and this is not about them anymore bar her anger frustration that he isn’t still mourning the past Now for part four
BOOK 3 - THERE ARE TWISTS AND TURNS, YOU WONT SEE COMING, MORE LIKES AND PLENTY OF SECRETS!
WOW, what a series this is, you don't know what or who to believe everyone seems to have an agenda and a lie they seem to be telling.
Michael doesn't want to be in the same room as Ellie, so much so that he spends time at at a hotel , just to be away from her.
You still don't know why Michael won't talk to Ellie about what happened and why he is covering for her.
Liam isn't just Michael's best friend, he is also Ellie's best friend and was her friend first, in fact they were lovers, before she met Michael, but Michael doesn't seem to know this, so that is yet another secret that is being kept.
Ellie is struggling, with her last and what happened and the only way she seems to be dealing with it, is to sleep with Liam.
Liam confesses his love to Ellie, but she still lives Michael after everything.
Is Michael having an affair? Why won't he talk to Ellie about Ava? What is he really hiding?

This wasn’t my favourite in the series. There was an awful lot of sex, I’m no prude but it just felt wrong and didn't completely add to this instalment, especially after what had been spouted in the last two books. I began to not like Ellie, you can see her slowly unravel and try to justify her actions. However, and this is the clever thing, is she unravelling or is she being mad to feel this clueless and lost? So I did feel for her to an extent too.
Just like Ellie, I am conflicted. I am also extremely intrigued as to what the heck is going on and yet another cliffhanger. I mean wwwwhhhhhaaaaaaaattttttttt!! I am chomping at the bit to read the next one! It can’t end like that, but well it did but aaaahhh!!
This serialisation has been so addictive and the story as a whole is a complete head twist. I have no idea who to trust, the three main characters, Liam, Michael and Ellie are so not trustworthy. They have agendas but that’s what makes it all that much more enjoyable!!
The psychological tension is ramped up in this penultimate episode of the serial. Book 2 – ‘In Sickness and In Health’, ends with a life-changing event for Ellie, although not entirely surprising from the reader’s point of view. Is Michael the true villain of this? Or is it all in Ellie’s troubled mind? Maybe Liam isn’t the selfless, knight in shining armour Ellie believes him to be? Ellie thinks she is in control but is she? There are so many questions in this third book, which has a dark, sinister ethos. Ellie is in danger but is she her own enemy or is there someone else controlling her life for their own ends. There is a shocking ending to book 3, but I’m not convinced everything is as it appears to be. Can’t wait for the finale of this gripping, emotional serial. I received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Part 3 of The Wife continues to ratchet up the tension as Ellie's fears for her relationship with husband Michael plague her every waking moment. Is she justified in her thoughts and extreme actions, or simply paranoid after a devastating incident in the past? And where does their mutual friend Liam really figure in all this? Secrets are revealed and we are left breathlessly hanging at the end as Ellie witnesses something shocking. But with the fourth and final part still to come, we can be sure there are still more surprises in store. I am genuinely loving this series, even if there are times I could happily shake Ellie. I can't say I particularly like any of the key characters, but the author knows how to spin a good yarn and maintain page-turning momentum. Eagerly awaiting the conclusion!
There is too much predictability with this storyline. It given us nothing new and the fact that its being marketed on the back of the Dr Foster series gives you the heads up the way this goes.
So far each part of this book goes over what's happened previously and due to this the storyline has no real flow, its disjointed and so are the characters.
The author would have been better releasing this in a complete book .
This is the reason why I usually leave these types of drip fed stories well alone.
This has been an interesting book so far and I'm so keen to get part four to see the conclusion. I liked Liam to begin with but now I just want to slap him. I'm unsure what's going to happen and whether it's all in Ellie's head but I'm looking forward to finding out.
Thanks goes to net galley and the publishers for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
why this book was broken down into 4 books. One cannot stand alone because not all questions are answered. Seems to be a way to get more money for the book, that the price for one looks small but we have to pay for each. It is very good, I will say that. I just don't like when people try to trick the public.
I couldn't put this down, I had to know what was really going on with Michael, I didn't know what I was expecting as the author pulls you in so many dimensions that the ending could have been so very different. This is edge of the seat reading with a little anxiety thrown in, especially the last few pages..loved all 3 books
Oh my goodness. This part goes in the same circles as part one and two. “Talk to me.” “ I can’t talk to you.” “You are cheating.” “Am not.” “Are too.” I believe this story could have been a short story rather than 4 parts. I truly kept thinking there would be more substance rather than just one sex episode after the other. Not my best reading choice.
This series just gets better and better.I couldn't put this book down I'm loving the story line it has twist and turns and you are left wanting to find out more. Didn't want this book to end.now have to wait for part 4.
It's getting better all the time. What is happening with Michael and ava? Is Liam deliberately trying to split them up? is all as it seems? Will we ever find out?
-woahhhh. this has definitely taken a turn. it’s getting very juicy and interesting. -this series really shows how everyone is sick and twisted in their own way. & it’s full of lies and people stabbing each other in the back. -i did like this one better then the first two though.
Something I am going through! Couldn’t believe my eyes that it’s my story being written about love and deceit by husband … being cheated on … and I couldn’t do anything cuz I love my husband more than anything. Cannot imagine life without him!
Oh my goodness!! This book was awesome!! The entire series of books are so good. The author reveals more and more with each book. Loved it! Will definitely try more of their books.
I thank Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review........ Wow that was a turn in events. The third part of this book was as addictive as the first two. I'm completely hooked. I was engrossed in this part of the story from start to finish. Now gonna start book 4.....
