Arcane Inc.: Books 1-4

Not every hero is heroic.

Eddie Lancaster has outfought vampires, out-plotted seers, taken on the fairy kingdom, and even created his own species. But he's certainly not a hero.

If you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Shayne Silvers, Steve McHugh, Patricia Briggs, Shannon Mayer, or Ben Aaronovitch, you will LOVE the Arcane Inc. series.

So, if you like fast-paced, action-packed urban fantasy with smart-mouthed heroes who have to overcome impossible odds, then you'll love this gripping series by Sean Stone.
Warlock for Book 1

He’s annoying, rude and just a little bit sinister. He’s also a warlock. Not just any warlock. He’s a warlock for hire. Need magical assistance? He’s your guy.

Eddie’s life takes a bit of a turn when he meets Ashley Sheridan. She hires him to help her against a powerful seer who is threatening her family. He agrees to help but not in the way she wants. He quickly lands himself in dangerous waters and those he cares about are put at risk too. The deeper he gets the more he wants to put an end to the psychic’s machinations.

But how do you beat a man who sees every move you make before you’ve even decided to make it?

Warlock Book 2

One month ago he killed Killian Myers and now Inspector Richards is after him. Luckily, Richards has no evidence but that's not all Eddie has to worry about. People are going missing from Mote Park. The circumstances point to the supernatural and Eddie is hired to investigate and resolve the matter. He soon discovers that what's going on in Mote Park is far more sinister than a simple kidnapping.

On top of it all, Rachel, a woman from Eddie's past, has arrived in Maidstone and she isn't leaving without him. No matter who she has to kill. Wanted by enemies on all sides, Eddie has to find a way to overcome the odds before his friends end up dead and he becomes a prisoner.

Dark Book 3

637. That's the number of children that have been taken in the last 30 years. All taken by one person. He never leaves any evidence. He never leaves witnesses. He leaves only a Mr Panomie. And Panomie is far from human.

Eddie is hired to solve the case and bring about an end to Panomie's machinations. He delves into a world in which magical creatures are in charge. But Eddie has problems of his own.

Rachel is in prison but her curse is fighting to take control of Eddie's mind. And it's getting stronger. Each time Eddie gives in to the dark urges the curse gains more ground and he becomes more monstrous. With the darkness inside him rapidly growing he has to figure out a way to cure himself before he becomes worse than Rachel ever was. But it's getting harder to tell the difference between what's him and what's the darkness.

Warlock at Book 4

The Syndicate has arrived in Maidstone. The deadly group of vampires, led by their Master, Sebastian Redvers, have spread across Kent and now they’ve got their eye on Eddie’s town. Eddie is prepared to stand aside and let them have it – until they attack his favourite pub. After defending the landlord in a bloody battle with few survivors, Eddie sets himself in Sebastian’s sights and staying out of it is no longer an option.

Sebastian is over a thousand years old and impervious to magic. Every attempt to take him down is thwarted. The Master Vampire comes after Eddie and all the people he cares about. As the casualty list grows, Eddie is forced to work with less than trustworthy people. He soon finds himself caught in the middle of a fight between The Syndicate and The Alliance of Covens and has to find a way to keep his town free of both.

About the author

Sean is a writer and reader of all kinds of books, but he particularly enjoys books with 413 pages. He lives alone in Maidstone with his cats, Molly and Klaus, in an apartment that does not allow pets. He is also quite sure that one of them is trying to kill him. It’s a good thing he’s immortal.

He works as a lab technician by day and writes rather marvelous books by night. Sometimes he writes in the day too, but those books aren’t as good.

Sean Stone is a serious man.

I am generally not a big reader but I love this authors work. I originally started with his other (and still ongoing) series which started with Cursed.
I later started this series and although I enjoy both for different reasons the last book of this series really made this one my favourite (but only just as they are both great).

The main character of this series is Eddie and I think that the success of this series is that we can all identify with Eddie in some way as he is how most of us either are or wish we could be. The author should be applauded however for the depth each of his characters, plots, and the landscape of his stories are written. I could very easily see this as a film or TV series.

I don't want to give too much away about each book but my review for book four was as follows:
"By far the best book in the series! The plot is great and I loved the development of the story and the darker side of the characters coming through. This authors work needs to be read. I'm not much of a story book reader but his work has kept me gripped."

So stop reading these comments and start reading the books - buy them already. And before someone asks NO I do not know the author or have any vested interest for such high praise. I just really enjoy the books and think they should be more well known.

Nothing in Life is Free

Having read all four books in the series I don't think you will be disappointed. In order to enjoy the story you will need to read all the books in order.

The books bring magic, supernatural creatures, curses and things that go bump in the night and day. All is not sweet with this story but the author does do a descent job at engaging the reader with the troubles of the characters.

I just don't like the voice/tone/quality. I keep thinking back to high school English class, show don't tell. Started, couldn't finish.
