It’s autumn in the sleepy Maine town of Bath and life seems perfect. At least that’s what retired school teacher turned detective Jesse Ashworth thinks until his world is turned upside down. After celebrating the richness of autumn with a cookout for friends and family, Jesse’s partner Tim Mallory goes missing.
Determined to find Tim, Jesse with the help of retired Montreal police captain Hugh Cartier, must search for Tim while still trying to maintain business at the Bigg-Boyce Detective and Security Agency. The Collins’s Department Store has been suffering heavy losses because of shoplifting, and it’s up to Jesse and Hugh to solve the problem without the help of the missing Tim Mallory.
But the Collins’s Department Store isn’t their only client. Forty-five year old Bunty Morgan hires the agency to find his birth mother and with too few clues to go on, Jesse fears he will fail his client.
Missing partner, missing merchandise, and missing mother, Jesse Ashworth won’t be enjoying the quiet life he so craves.

I consider Stephen a personal friend even though we have never met. We been through a few things together.
The Jesse Ashworth series is my go to series when I want to settle down with a good friend. I've read the series several times now and, when I can't decide on my next book and it is late at night, I always go back to these books.
Missing is the latest book in the Jesse Ashworth series and I enjoyed reading it very much. I like the way that Stephen writes and I like the mysteries that he presents.
As always, there are a lot of familiar faces making appearances. I liked the mysteries - this one contains 3 - and all are solved by the end of the book.
I would recommend that you read this series in order as you will find out how Jesse makes his friends and you find out about his background.
Cooking and family gatherings are an important part of his books and, at the end of the book, you will find recipes which always look appealing to me. I really must get my oven fixed although the I can make do in quite a few cases with my slow cooker.

Good stories

Sort of choppy. More like several short stories than one coherent book. That said, I still love Stephen Stanley's writing. Happy Thanksgiving
