Prudence Lynch’s beloved grandmother trained her in midwifery and in folk medicine. Always ostracized because they were different—until someone needed their help—they lived in poverty at the edge of a tiny Virginia village where rumors plagued them. After Granny’s death, Prudence leaves for Richmond. There, Prudence is fortunate to be chosen to accompany Lydia Harrison to Tarnation, Texas. She believes she’s left trouble and gossip behind to establish her healing business and begin a new life.

Doctor Riley Gaston wants a wife and children. He’s threatened to move from Tarnation to seek a wife, but he would never actually leave the community he loves. One of the young women Lydia brings home mesmerizes Riley. That is, until he learns her so-called profession is folk healing, which is he views as dangerous as it is worthless.

Prudence is as stubborn as Riley. Trouble causes them to reconsider their opinions. Is their change of heart too late?

Prudence Lynch was taught by her grandmother to be a midwife and heal with folk medicine. Her grandmother and Prudence as well read every medical book and journal they could get ahold of. Upon her grandmother's death and many problems being on her own and having some men bothering her for gold they thought she had, she decided to become a mail order bride.

Riley Gaston is a full fledged doctor and quite taken with Prudence. Both are stubborn and willful. Both very attracted to each other. One problem (or so they thought) is Riley didn't want Prudence to continue her work as a healer, only as a midwife.

Bride Brigade series

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series but I am so sad this is the last one. But what a story two romances both Prudence and finally Lydia get their man, but not without a few issues here and there, of course Dr Gaston wanted things his way but Prudence sticks to her guns. Adam and Lydia have been attracted to each other through every book and Adam fought the attractions thinking he is not good enough. It's a must read and ties up this series very well.

A special bride

This story is the final installment of the bride brigade. I am going to miss this group of ladies. This group takes you along with the ladies finding love after not great lives up to now. Finding love that will make them feel their self worth for the first time of their life. Each lady had a different type of problem that Ms Clemmons makes you root for them to find true love

Loved this series, and it was nice to tie everything together at the end and remind us of all of the brides. I didn't fully feel the romance between these two, though. The story had similarities to Lorraine's (book 6), and the author may have done too good of a job making Riley unattractive to me.

Riley and Prudence / Adam and Lydia

‘‘This is the last in this series of sweet love stories by Caroline Clemmons. She has done an excellent job with the plots and characters in each of these seven books. You will enjoy discovering how each couple discovers their happily ever after.

Prudence! Book 7.

Sad to see this series end, I thoroughly enjoyed each book, the characters and the storyline. This last book I especially enjoyed, as it tied everything up for the perfect ending to the series. JudyE

Sad to finish the last one

Each and every story in this series was fun to read. I had to laugh as the experiences of the ladies matched some of my own life experiences. Theirs had better outcomes overall.

The town of Tarnation, Texas has no single females of marriageable age. The single men of the town are threatening to move to larger towns to find a wife which would cause Tarnation to die out. Young widow Lydia Harrison travels to her home state of Virgina where she places an ad in the newpaper and interviews several young women who are interested in moving west to marry. Seven young women ultimately head west with Lydia and her friend Sophie; each girl escaping something or someone and looking for acceptance and love.

A well written series with interesting characters. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series as well.
