Growing up in the cold, wet, north of England, Nina Croft spent a lot of time dreaming of faraway sunnier places and ponies. When she discovered both, along with a whole load of other things, could be found between the covers of a book, her life changed forever.

Later, she headed south, picked up the perfect husband along the way, and together they volunteered to work in Africa. There they discovered a love of exotic places and a dislike of 9-5 work. Afterward they spent a number of years travelling (whenever possible) intermingled with working (whenever necessary.) Eventually they stumbled upon a remote area in the mountains of southern Spain and the small almond farm they now call home.

Nina spends her days reading, writing and riding her mare, Gencianna, under the blue Spanish skies—sunshine and ponies. She reckons this is proof that dreams really can come true if you want them enough.

Nina's writing mixes romance with elements of the paranormal and science fiction

Unexpected. Unbelievable. Unraveled.
There were a lot of reasons I really liked this action-suspense-paranormal yarn by Nina Croft. There is an ease to Croft's writing style that immerses you in people and plot. She reveals characters in their conversations and deeds and internal thoughts. I've always enjoyed "buddy" humor in procedurals and you find it sprinkled liberally throughout here. There is a lot of showing rather than telling. The secondary characters are people I want to know, rely upon and take on vacation with me. I also want them backing me up in explosive situations.

Croft can write suspense, danger and shoot-em-up scenes. Flawlessly. How Ethan takes an impact with a bullet or who Sadie pulls to safety behind a table reveals as much about them as anything we are told. Not a word is wasted and each one enriches the storytelling. The soft moments and the hard moments ebb and flow. I got the breather I needed from the action and the romance gets to develop at a somewhat believable pace. After all, lust rules these two at times.

Finally, the story arc takes the reader to intriguing places. Not only are the paranormal aspects original and darn interesting, but the suspense plot is carefully crafted. This book is a true page turner.

I think an understanding of the novel is better if you've read book one, Unthinkable, but it is not completely necessary since the main characters are different and Croft does a decent job of adding new twists and turns to the plot for the sophomore book in the series. It is clear she will do the same for book three.

ARC REVIEW

Beyond Human book two , and I warn you even though there is a nice "Previously on Beyond Human" at the start of this book I would recommend reading the first book before this one. It has a very complex bad story the is even a bit confusing in the first book so I can only imagine how it might be confusing if you haven't read the first one especially since the end of the last book explains so much. But not so much that this book doesn't have secrets it has plenty to reveal too. This is definitely leaning more toward sci-fi than just paranormal and I'm loving it.

Sadie and her family have always been special, they each have extraordinary abilities. They were being held against their will forces to do the bidding of a secret agency and experimented on. After they escaped they discovered they had more abilities than they knew. One of Sadie's new talents has been dreaming the future, and she has lately been dreaming of one man. She manipulates it so she can meet him but she doesn't realize until it's too late that he is part of the secret agency that kept her prisoner most of life and was responsible for the death of her sister.

Ethan Weiland was born into the Conclave and is destined to one day rule the whole organization, but ever since the death of his mother he's been having doubts. Even more so now members have been dying and his cousin is missing and now a mysterious woman is trying to blackmail him. When Sadie reveals who she is and Ethan looks into her claims he discovers she's telling the truth and everything he suspected about the Conclave was right, but he wants one thing from her in return she can dig through all the records and find out where her people (who were kidnapped in the last book) have been taken. In the meantime Sadie and Ethan deal with their strong attraction to each other and learn to trust each other.

Overall, much like the first book a lot happens and it's all very exciting and very intriguing. Sadie and Ethan are hot! I can't wait to see where Nina Croft takes us next.

REVIEW: 4.25 stars--UNSPEAKABLE is the second installment in Nina Croft’s adult BEYOND HUMAN paranormal, sci-fi romance series focusing on a class of supernatural humans known as the Tribe-descendants from a group of people discovered, over 100 years earlier, by an expedition to the Mountains of the Moon (Congo Free State of Africa). This is Tribe member Sadie Brooks, and Conclave royalty/Afghanistan army veteran Ethan Weiland’s story line. UNSPEAKABLE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion. There is a prequel short story-NO MORE LIES-that introduces the premise behind the series concept. On that note, NO MORE LIES can be found in the multi-authored anthology THE TELEPATH CHRONICLES originally released in 2014.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Tribe believe themselves to be descendants of a species of humans blessed and cursed with supernatural, psychic powers. Their discovery has led to the formation of the Conclave who have taken it upon themselves to experiment with the mind and the brain, destroying that which they do not understand.

Told from several third person points of view including Sadie and Ethan UNSPEAKABLE continues to focus on the discrimination and specieism aimed at the descendants of the Tribe- a race of tall, blue-eyed Caucasians believed to be the product of inbreeding who were transferred to Scotland, given a home and all but forgotten until a secret, government faction known as the Conclave set about trying to capture and experiment upon those that have survived. Sadie Brooks’ latest assignment finds her face to face with the enemy and her future-Ethan Weiland- a man whose direct link to the Conclave places Sadie and the members of the Tribe in mortal danger. When a mutual contact is found dead, Sadie sets into motion a meeting with the man with whom she will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Sadie and Ethan as they attempt to uncover the whereabouts of Sadie’s missing friends; and the search for the truth behind the Conclave’s desire to eradicate a species struggling to survive.

UNSPEAKABLE is a detailed story line that follows several paths including the revelations about the death of Sadie’s sister, and Ethan’s mom; the imprisonment, experimentation and death of members of the Tribe; and the discovery that not everything and everyone is who they appear to be. A time-machine, possibly from the future, is the Tribe’s only link to the past-a past that is quickly re-written at every turn.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including several members of the Conclave, the Tribe, and the introduction of a potentially new but familiar enemy on the horizon. We are introduced to Ethan’s father, his cousin Travis, Travis’s wife Joelle, and Ethan’s assistant ex-military Fergus Baker. I am hoping Fergus will find his happily ever after.

UNSPEAKABLE is a story of family and friendships; discrimination and fear; and the struggle to survive. The premise is entertaining and intriguing; the characters are colorful, dynamic and challenging; the romance is passionate and forbidden. UNSPEAKABLE is a revealing installment in Nina Croft’s BEYOND HUMAN series.

First off I highly recommended readers start with the first in the series. I didn't and while the author gives readers a very fast overview of that happened in the first book and it helps new readers start the series. I was lost many times but still found the story enjoyable.
I will say even without reading the first book in the series I was able to catch up quickly and found myself enjoying the story.
The science fiction/Paranormal aspect of the story doesn't overwhelm the story and some readers might find it interesting
The story is well crafted with a decent pace that will keep readers reading without being bogged down with Paranormal\Science Fiction lingo that other books in this genre have done.
The character development in interesting since the author Nina Croft has to keep track of all their special abilities. Even without reading the first book I think readers of mystery as well as Paranormal/Science will enjoy this series
The story move quickly and will have twist and turns for mystery readers to enjoy.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Entangled Publishing (Select Otherworld) for the advance copy

ARC received from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair review

Plot: 4/5
Characterisation: 3/5
Prose: 4/5
How much I enjoyed it: 4/5

When I started with the 1st book of the series (which is a good thing I did that instead of jumping head first into this 2nd book), I thought it was a little bit more of paranormal with light sci-fi. But no, this series is heading straight right into sci-fi future.

Taking out the sci-fi part, the story is basically a tale of two enemies falling in love. Having to choose a side and whether love will prevails. However, the strength of the story is not the characters or the love story, because it almost seemed secondary. Its the progression of the series and the possible future that gets me excited. It almost feels like an episode of an exciting sci-fi tv series and you're afraid that the tv execs will cut the season short or not renew it because you can envision a long storyline enough for 10 seasons.

The relevations in this story is enough to give me migraines. Its clear that main characters of the previous book and this one is central to the future. I just wish the love story is as epic as their adventure is and will be.

Unspeakable by Nina Croft, is the second book of the Beyond Human series.
The story takes place right where the first one ended. They are still being hunted, and so many of their people are suffering. While on a mission, Sadie encounters a man named Ethan Weiland. From the first time she saw him, she felt this connection . . . and familiarity.

He is the man of her dreams!
But also the next in line to the conclave.

These two must work together to make a brighter future.
But past mistakes, and being on opposite sides, do not make it easy for this duo.
They must race against the clock to save their people no matter the cost!

I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.

3.5 stars — Definitely a fun ride, but I didn’t feel quite as connected to Sadie and Ethan as I was to Jake and Christa in book 1. I think I might have had certain expectations of Sadie as we saw her in the first book, and so the direction this book took threw me off a bit. I never really felt like I got to know who she was. Like we’re told over and over that she doesn’t want to love because she has lost, but I don’t know if I really saw it a lot…it was there, but just not as intrinsic.

This story also started a surprising amount of time after the first book ended. I expected it to be within days, not months. Also, warning to future readers: this is the type of series that, while different characters are featured in each book, I honestly believe you won’t get as much enjoyment from jumping in in the middle. I think you’d have a fuller experience if you read from book one. I don’t know that you’d be completely lost, but I would imagine you would be a little.

I could never quite figure Ethan out. The author spent so much time making sure that his motives were questionable, that I didn’t really fall for him. He tolerated a lot of bad things in his life. Like horrific things. And while this is clear about him, as a reader I had a hard time empathizing with him. I guess I just didn’t connect with him.

I also didn’t really connect with their romance as much. I didn’t see them fall in love… Lust? Yuppers. Love? *sigh* I just didn’t feel it.

So how did I still rate this one so highly? The overall plot and sci-fi/paranormal/urban fantasy elements were very intriguing and kept me wanting to learn more. There were a lot of edge of the seat moments, and some great action-y type scenes. I’m still very curious where this series is going, and what all is going to happen.

I also loved seeing the Tribe members again, and getting to see in Kaitlin’s head on occasion was fun. She’s angrier than I expected. I also really enjoyed Fergus, though I didn’t fall in love with him either (for similar reasons to Ethan).

So basically, while the characters didn’t pull me in as deeply, the plot and action/suspense was still top notch! Can’t wait to read the next book and see what’s going to happen next!!

Sadie Brooks isn't afraid to get her hands dirty, especially when it comes to finding those responsible for the deaths of her sister and a friend. However, when she discovers the man from her dreams is part of the organization Sadie and her friends are determined to bring down, she doesn't know whether to give him a chance or kill him. Choosing to use Ethan Weiland to find information on her captured friends is the only way, even if the others don't agree with her. Yet, the further into their investigation they get, the more danger closes in on them. Will Ethan be able to keep Sadie safe, or will their chance at happy ever after never happen?

The first book of this series is fantastic, but this story encompassing the enemy to lovers trope was an absolute page turner due to the main characters that have incredible chemistry, but are at odds because Sadie and her friends are out to destroy the organisation Ethan is a part of. Will they succeed or will Ethan see that the organisation his family has always been a part of are in the wrong and make things right? The way this story started had me totally engrossed and I loved how far the heroine was willing to go to get the hero's attention. Will Ethan give her a chance or will she force him to do something he wishes he doesn't have to? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine met that had me absolutely captivated, as Ethan needs information and isn't afraid to do whatever it takes to extract the information from Sadie. Will exposure to Sadies's abilities put Ethan in danger?

As for the dialogue, it was well-written, yet there were also some light-hearted moments that had me charmed by this couple's growing relationship. Will Ethan be able to handle the truth about Sadie? Will he be able to handle all that has been kept from him when it comes to the organization? However, the dialogue is also intense and had me on the edge-of-my-seat when it came to the people coming after Sadie and her friends? Who wants them dead? Moreover, the heroine is resilient, tenacious and I liked how courageous she was when it comes to what happens to her due to the hero wanting answers. I also liked that she wasn't afraid to stand up for herself and the hero when it came to her friends because they weren't being fair to Ethan. Just because he's part of the organisation, it doesn't mean he had anything to do with what happened to them.

While the hero, it isn't easy to accept that the organization is as bad as Sadie and her friends are leading him to believe because of all they've been through, and yet, he's willing to help them since he wants to know the truth. Ethan is strong, brave and I liked how determined he was to discover what happened to Sadie's friends, even though things are bound to get dangerous when a select few know about what the organization has been up to. I also liked how far the hero was willing to go for the heroine when it came to protecting her. Will he be able to eliminate those that would make trouble for him as well as for Sadie and her friends?

Overall, Ms. Croft has delivered an utterly engaging read in this book where the paranormal elements of this story were enthralling; the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance nicely-detailed and had me wondering when their relationship would finally go from platonic to physical; and the ending had me totally captivated by what the hero was willing to do to protect the heroine and the danger he faces. Will Ethan be able to get himself free of the danger, so he has a shot at happy ever after with Sadie? However, in saying that, I loved what happens that guarantees the hero and heroine's safety that made this story and this series really exciting and interesting. I would recommend Unspeakable by Nina Croft, if you enjoy paranormal romance or books by authors Rebecca Zanetti, Thea Harrison, Juliette Cross and Lisa Kessler.

This was first published on my blog " Lecture toute une Aventure"
I received an arc and voluntary choose to review it

Let's start with some advice. If the little recap at the beginning of this second book is quite useful and could help someone new to the series to feel less lost i do recommend to start with book 1 Unthinkable as this universe is really rich and every element can be important later so better not to miss anything.

Now that this precaution is done i must say that i was more than happily surprised... book 1 was fantastic and i loved it, this one is as good or even better it's captivating and intriguing... it's the kind of book you must read in one sitting simply because you can't put it done. the idea is original and it's a strange but excellent mix between paranormal romance and sciences fiction with that second genre a bit more present in this instalment. Really it's a series that once started you want to finish but that will require some patience as it's not written yet.

Keeping the quality in a series when book 1 was great is not easy but Nina Croft sure manages it at the perfection. We do get enough recaps to fall back into the new instalment without trouble and at the same time we just have enough to keep us on the edge of our seat ready to jump on any new info to try to learn more about all the mysteries involved.

I really loved Ethan, despite being conclave he is deep down a good guy and his loyalty to his friend makes him even more adorable... he is perfect for Sadie, they have so much in common that it can be funny because despite this deep connection they still tiptoe around each other for a long moment....i loved that because both character with their past need time to accept what is happening and fully trust the other it's perfectly natural.
The link between Sadie and the dog Max is absolutely cute too and seen we see the others member of the tribe i hope that we will see him again in the rest of the series as well.

Sadie is a bit of a wild element in the tribe, she is so full of anger that she has difficulties to follow orders ( not as much as Kaithlin but still) and that leads her into danger a bit too often fortunately Jake knows her well and thus is ready to protect her when it's needed while giving her as much as freedom as it's possible - yes really Jake is the perfect Alpha- When Sadie sees a man in her dreams at first she doesn't over think it and simply enjoy those dreams but when she sees him in real, she has to investigate...while keeping the real reason secret.

I really loved the story it was perfectly balanced between the investigation, action, romance, new elements...secondary characters are so funny and interesting. i really loved the poor Fergus so loyal and so protective of Ethan but also liking Sadie without showing it. We do learn a lot in this book but Kane mission is still a mystery and we end up with more question than answers but fortunately the good guys are winning some battle.... now will Kane manage to get his soul mate^^ we will see in the future but i already imagine his pain as his hands will be full .. that with his mind a little narrow when it comes to his mission it could be funny to watch.

So this really a series to discover ( but in order) and i recommend it without hesitation while i can't wait for book 3.

Review:

In this second installment of the Beyond Human series, it starts where the first book left off. This is not saying that they have to be read in order, but I would recommend it.

I really loved the story line and the uniqueness of this series. The use of the extrasensory abilities adds a great element to the story and made it even more interesting. Of course, there is a forbidden romance in the middle of all this action and chaos. Ethan is the heir apparent for the Conclave and Sadie is a member of the Tribe and out for revenge against those in the Conclave who have hurt her family and friends. I loved the chemistry between Ethan and Sadie. Together they make a great force in their quest to find the others and answers. One more thing without giving away too much, I am so glad Ethan got his answers about his mother and Sadie got her surprise about her sister.

The action and intrigue keep getting better in this second book in the series. Some old questions/mysteries get answered and some new pop up to keep the story going. It is a continuing storyline, so Ethan and Sadie get their HEA but what happens for each group and others in this world will keep going into the next book.

4.5Stars

Where to start? The follow up to 'Unthinkable' showcases Nina Croft's talent at weaving suspense, drama, romance and science fiction with a lot of action. There are a couple of twists there that you won't see coming, that adds to the lead up for a future title in the series.
The science fiction aspect isn't overwhelming, but is very interesting, so if you aren't necessarily a fan of that genre, don't be put off. It does make me want to know where it's going to lead, and to say any more is to risk spoiling it, so stopping.
This installment focuses on Sadie and Ethan, who are on opposite sides. Sadie's developing talents for dreaming the future should put her at a slight advantage over Ethan, who is catching up on events, but not necessarily. The romantic development between these two builds over time, tempered by each character's reasons to keep their distance. I liked how Nina plays these two off each other, with a really lovely and heartwarming reveal toward the end of the story. Well worth the read to get to that - and again, to say anymore is to spoil it, except that it is romantic in the true sense of the word.
If you have read Unthinkable, this is really a no-brainer. The development of plot and characters, and not just Sadie and Ethan, is well crafted and teases the reader into anticipating what is yet to come.

This is book 2 in the Beyond Human series which continues the pursuit of the Tribe by the Conclave. This is not really a standalone book as the complexity of the storyline means you need to have read the first book Unthinkable to fully appreciate the intricacies of this amazing plot.
Sadie is a member of the Tribe who has special abilities as do all of her family. She has been having dreams featuring a man she has not met who turns out to be Ethan Weiland.
Ethan is a hereditary member of the Conclave who stands to become head in the near future. He has been groomed for this his whole life but starts to question the Conclave ethos & once he has Sadie he realises that what she is saying is true.
This book has everything with paranormal events, romance & all wrapped up as a first class thriller.
As is normal with this author there are unexpected twists & turns with a story that races through this book right to the end. This then leaves us wanting more which I hope we will get as there us more we need to know.
I was lucky enough to get this ARC in exchange for an honest review & it was a pleasure to read it.

The story picks up right where Unthinkable ends.

The Tribe is still being hunted. Their friends still need saving. While searching for a key contact, Sadie finds Ethan Weiland. He seems very familiar. Then she realizes
That he's the man from her dreams.

Ethan is next in line to head the Conclave. He meets Sadie and discovers the Tribe. He had no idea of them or what had been done to them. He may have done bad things, but he wants to make changes to make the Conclave better.

Sadie agrees to help Ethan find out what happened to his mother, in exhange Ethan will help locate her friends so that they can be rescued. During their mission, feelings between Sadie and Ethan ignite! Both don't want to love because of their pasts and who they are, but love has no rule or boundaries.

This story will scramble your mind. It keeps you on your toes and constantly thinking. More powers and more entities come into play to suck you in even further. I am eager to continue with this story and look forward to future stories in this series.

Well, I’m chalking this one up to a mistaken identity. I thought this was a different author when I received a NetGalley ARC to review. Unfortunately, right off the bat there were several things that indicated this series just isn’t for me. I found the backdrop too overly done/complicated and crowded with an overly long list of sub-characters. Plus, I wasn’t enjoying the author’s writing style at all. The premise of the story itself sounded better in the synopsis than the actual storyline.

Here’s to hoping others enjoy it. It just wasn’t for me.

Title: Unspeakable, Series: Beyond Human (Book 2), Author: Nina Croft, Pages: 338, stand-alone but part of a series, did not want to finish.

Book 1 - Unthinkable (Jake & Christa), 9/5/16
Book 2 - Unspeakable (Sadie & Ethan), 9/25/17

I definitely recommend that you read this series in order!!!

Sadie is a force of nature! She is sexy, strong, sly and more caring than she gives herself credit for.
She's a rebel with a cause and I'm pretty sure she could rule the world if she so desired!

Ethan...well I never quite knew whether I loved or hated him until near the end when I decided I loved him. He was so soaked in the traditions of his family, that I was left wondering how he managed to think for himself at all. But through the entire book his character emerged as more compassionate and sensitive and not quite so evil incarnate! He is as much a victim of circumstances as Sadie and the Tribe are. He and Sadie off the charts hot and I loved that he had no problems with Sadie reading him like a book.

Even crusty Fergus grew on me! They way Sadie needles him and sends him batty at every opportunity is hilarious! That man needs his own HEA! I'm intrigued by the "help" that arrives and cannot wait to see how he fits in the story arc!

This is the second book in the “Beyond Human” series by author Nina Croft. I highly recommend reading this series in order, but once I quickly caught on I was able to enjoy the story. And what a story! I just couldn’t put it down. I felt this was a good story with solid characters with great world building and I really liked that the heroine was not just a bad ass but a sassy one too. I think this story has a great pace to the action, sexy love scenes, and I felt the ending was a great way to wrap it up. Of course I’m not going to drop any spoilers so you’ll to read this for yourself to see what I mean. If you like action based PNR then this might be the read for you, so check it out. I give this book 4.5 stars.

Wow, I loved this book! This picks up following the Tribe in their very fight for survival against the Conclave. While this is a stand alone novel, you will enjoy it so much more if you've read the prior book.

This picks up predominately from Sadie's point of view as she is following the thread of Conclave members to eliminate them all. She holds them responsible for killing many people, but especially her sister. Ethan is the man she can't stop dreaming about, but she believes him to be a dream fantasy, not a real man...

This novel is filled with twists, turns, and time travel that literally twists time around. While not my normal genre, I loved this novel. At it's heart, it remains a romance, just wrapped in a complex plot that kept me guessing. Put this one at the top of your TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.

The follow up to Unthinkable has finally arrived. Sadie Brooks is back with all the gang plus Ethan Weiland, a member of the Conclave. Sadie and group are still fighting for their lives. When Ethan captures her she makes a crucial decision about trust and the future. This is a fast paced story with great characters. It has been a year since the first book was released and there was a need for some review. There is just the right amount of backstory and world building built into the story line to remind me about what went on before. I loved all the action and the surprise at the end. There was a very satisfactory ending with most loose ends tied up. I loved the premise and would not mind visiting this world again but time will tell if there will be more of the Beyond Human story told.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Unspeakable by Nina Croft is book 2 in the science fiction series which is riveting, fascinating. While some may enjoy this story on its own, it would be even better to read the books of the series in order. That is not so much for this story of Ethan and Sadie but to completely be able to envision the world in which they live.

Sadie and Ethan’s story is one of revenge, restoration, and finding love where you least expect it. Of course this is not without other influences and government agendas. They romance builds nicely as the action and complexities of the plot balance out the plot.

Unspeakable is a story that can be enjoyed by any romance fan even if they are not a strong science fiction fan. It is a well written amazing story.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.

This author does not fail to surprise me when she springs another good one on us. The characters she uses to capture our attention are real grabbers. Sadie and Ethan will start out at odds with each other. We will be given their journey that will take them on a path together with her wanting one thing but until she comes face to face with him. And seriously how can a enemy look so inviting so does that make for really being a enemy. The concept is different with you getting the curiosity filled on how she does this. No one wants to be a used asset with change in the air. Love will set the course with them following.

Great sci-fi suspense that had some surprising twist. I enjoyed the writing and the plot immensely, enough to go back and purchase the first book. My only complaint is that I did not truly care about Sadie and Ethan as characters. I found myself skimming when Sadie or Ethan was having their internal monologues for the first 50% of the book. I cared more about the conclave, the tribe and the possibilities for all the characters which shows how well written this is because I want to know more.

I was given an ARC for my honest review.

Different than what I am use to reading. The writing was good but the subject matter took me a while to wrap my head around. What would happen if the past and the future collide and you are not sure what will dictate your life. Ethan and Sadie are just to characters in this book that must determine what is fate and what is destiny. Thank you NetGalley and Nina Croft for allowing me to read and write a honest review of this book.

This is the story of Sadie Brooks, a Tribe Member and telepath, she has be having dreams of a certain man and believes these to be just dreams until she sees him while on a mission.
Ethan Weiland is the man she see in her dreams, just one problem he is part of the organisation she believes to have killed her family, but Ethan is to be the leader of the Conclave but he starts to question what the Conclave do and ends up joining with Sadie to find out what has happened, but there attraction for each other excels and we see how they deal with their love for eachother and the prejudices of the Conclave and the Tribe.
This was a good story by Nina Croft and would like to see what else happens in the “Beyond Human” series.

a shame, but I didn’t like Sadie in the first book and couldn’t bring myself to like her in this one either

I picked up this series when I went the Shameless2018. The first book's review explains my first meeting with Ms. Croft in person. I luckily spent more time with her on Sunday when we played the games Spoons. This time with the authors was a lot of fun for me. I learned more about Ms. Croft and liked her even more. Now that I'm hooked on her books, I'll be keeping my eye out for them and trying to read them all!

In this second book, which I bought as soon as I finished the first book, starting out fast and the pace kept moving. Sadie Brooks is one of the children raised by the British covert team for the "good of the nation". She turned her back on her handlers when she learned her twin sister was killed by them in an experimental study. She followed Jake, their group appointed leader. They were going to get to the bottom of where they came from and why their are forces working against them. Specifically, she was going to bring down the secret society bent on either controlling or destroying them.

I liked how this story started from from the opposing side - the Conclave. Ethan Weiland is a legacy member as he follows his father's footsteps. He isn't thrilled with being in the group but faced with death or life, he chooses to stay within this secretive group that thinks they know more and better than anyone else. When he learns of rogue operations within his organization, he seeks to end it. This leads him to a sexy and fascinating Sadie who is bent on taking down his entire organization.

This story is now starting to feel like a bit of the Illuminati mixed in with X-files. I like it! The dynamic between Sadie and Ethan is fun to watch too. The two of them are so sure they are right in their cause yet they question because what they are seeing does not match with what they find acceptable. Their interactions are amusing. The romance between them is light, since this is a new adult book. Quite honestly, even if the romance element was removed out of this book, I think it would have been just as good if not better. I reveled in the intrigue and specifically the hints of time travel. This story now reminds me of one of my favourite shows... Fringe. I'm now completely hooked into this series and want to find out the next. The conclusion comes all too quickly and entices a reader into reading the next book immediately. Luckily, I found this series late so I did not have to wait between books too long. This speculative fiction is recommended to readers who enjoy time traveling elements as well as secret societies controlling the world order like a puppet master.

Title: Unspeakable

Series: Beyond Human Book #2
Author: Nina Croft

Genre: Romantic Suspense, Paranormal

Blurb: Sadie Brooks grew up knowing she was different…special. And she thought the undercover work she did for the government was making a difference...making a better world. Then she discovered she was simply an asset—to be used or destroyed at whim.
Escaping her government controllers, Sadie is determined to get her revenge on the organization responsible for the death of her twin sister—the Conclave.

Ethan Weiland has doubts about the Conclave but he’s never known anything else.
Brought up from birth as the next hereditary leader, Ethan has never questioned his
destiny. Until he comes face to face with a beautiful enemy who can read his mind and
bring him to his knees with a thought. For the first time, Ethan sees a chance for redemption. When he’s in charge, he’ll be able to change things.

Too bad it won’t be that simple....

Favorite quote: “What? I don’t even get a f@#k for my fifty thousand?”

Thoughts: I love paranormal books. Part of what I love is the fact that an author can take something totally unbelievable and tell the story so well that you could conceive the possibility that such a world or creature could exist. That was my stumbling block with this one – the author was telling a good story and it started out okay, but I just wasn’t buying into it. And about the time that Ethan seen Sadie’s ‘eight toes’ I was finished with the book. I made myself finish it, but it just never recovered for me from that point. I can see other readers liking this series, but it just fell flat for me.

The second book in the Beyond Human series started off on a high note and kept on going. I felt like book one started off a bit slow, but this one had perfect pacing throughout the book. There were some heavy moments with a lot of information, but I didn’t think they slowed things down. Some of it was information people who read book one would already know, but it was a nice refresher since it’s been a year since the last book.

I really liked Sadie in the first book and I absolutely loved her here. She’s a force to be reckoned with and she doesn’t let anything get in her way. She’s a bit of a rebel though, which leads her into some trouble, but in the end it was all worth it. Sadie is smart, sexy and knows how to use every asset she has. The chemistry between her and Ethan is combustible.

I found Ethan interesting. I wasn’t sure if I could like him in the beginning, but the more we got to know of him, the more I realized that he was totally misunderstood. You can’t help where you’re born into….this statement holds true for so many of the characters in this book, especially Ethan. He and Sadie were absolutely perfect for each other. It was great watching them realize how much they needed each other.

I’m really enjoying this series. The mythology and the sci-fi-esque storyline are so great. I’m totally enthralled in this world and I can’t wait to read what comes next.

This is the second book in the "Beyond Human" series by Nina Croft. Luckily I decided to pick up the first book in the series, "Unthinkable", and give it a go before starting this one. I would strongly suggest reading that book before starting this one. The beginning of "Unspeakable" does give a quick run down of the first book but honestly I think it makes it sound goofy and not something I would want to pick up. But I thought that book was actually very good and quite interesting with a lot of character info and events taking place. So grab it first.

I loved "Unspeakable". The deep underlying theme is not one I would normally choose to read. Luckily I didn't know what was going on until the end of the first book because this (so far) is a series I wouldn't want to miss. It just has a very different feel to it from the books I've been reading lately.

I loved Sadie and Ethan together. Both of them are very outwardly badass but have a lot of hurt and vulnerability deep inside. My fave type of character. I don't want a whiny heroine who is waiting only on a man to save her. But I want her to have some uncertainty inside that makes her human. The author did a good job of bringing that forward. All the characters in this series have a nice duality going on. Not quite bad, not quite good, and sometimes they flip flop. Someone you disliked becomes seen in a different light and so forth. It's been quite enjoyable working my way though the story line.

Sadie and Ethan were great together. I could feel the chemistry and the fact that Sadie could often see into Ethan's mind added an interesting change. I definitely wouldn't have minded a little more steamy scenes though.

The plot is intricate in this series. There were a couple twists and turns I didn't see coming which is awesome. And a new group of "unknowns" was introduced in this book. I can't quite see where everything is headed which is nice but makes me want the next book NOW. Love the side characters and really can't wait for Kane's book where I am assuming (hoping) he is paired with Kaitlin.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
