Favorite Quote: "Ninja uses stealth and camouflage to protect their focus so that they can use their most valuable periods of attention on the hardest task without getting interrupted.” - Graham Allcott - How to be a study Ninja. How to be a Study Ninja: Study smarter. Focus better. Achieve more.
The way Allcott writes just meshes with me really well. I find he has much less fluff and crap in his personality than a lot of American self-help writers that I've never gotten on with throughout my life. He's spaced it out into small chunks, which enabled me to whizz through this in a couple of hours while sunbathing, and is just generally much more helpful in the long run to dippers like me who will be going back to places I marked and see what else I can implement. The majority (if not all) of his suggestions are excellent and really helped me to 1) put my motivations and goals into perspective, and 2) arm me with ways of achieving those motivations and goals. I went for this book as opposed to the more business focused art of productivity (though I also do own that one) for now because the specific tips were far more relevant to my Master's studies currently. This book is really, truly helpful if you're willing to give the tips you think will help you a go.
I think this is quite important book to start your goals.
This book is more pointed towards students, but it could as well be useful for every person who has a target to achieve in life. This book told you how to be productive, not to tarry on daily procrastination, tells you which app to use in order to further your productivity.
Above all, this book also told you that even if you have all these activities waiting in line for you or keep you busy, remember to have a healthy dose of sleep, of certain nutrition so your body keeps healthy, because the best outcome for productivity can only be achieved when your body functions is also at maximum.
In other words, this book told you about balance in life. Going busy and stressed out about life won't get you wholly productive; it will kill you in the end.
It's a really good book on how to plan things out.
I bought this book on a whim. Up to that point, I had not been exposed to any work of the author, but it seemed like a good choice for my preferences so I said "What the hell, why not?"
First pages into the book, I thought this was going to offer very niche advice for university students. Given the fact that I'm no longer one, I was convinced I was going to breeze through it then let it go.
It is with great satisfaction I write that I was wrong. As I went through it, more and more things regarding productivity and even mindfulness got reaffirmed. And, to my surprise, I found many more useful life advice for our day and age that I did not expect. I even found writing advice in here.
Which is not to say it's a scattershot with some generic fluff thrown around so that it appeals to everyone, far from it. The author offer very structured and bite-size knowledge on how you should structure your exams, your working schedule and your daily habits.
Yet, the most valuable thing I picked up was that it convinced me to introduce a set of coaching questions to my weekly routine. I've been having trouble keeping momentum with some of my habits and I believe taking time to do a weekly review was the missing piece. All in all, I really enjoyed the book. For a student though, putting these into practice is probably going to be life changing.
A great book with great tips on studying which some can even apply to how to be generally more productive. I love the use of the idea of the Study Ninja, it made the book more fun and enjoyable to read.
Would recommend to anyone who is a student of about to be a student, or anyone who just is a life long learner and wants to get better at studying!
This book was a really good and interesting read. The book is filled with pages and pages of useful information and efficient ways to study while also teaching you to start studying efficiently. It has helped me develop new good studying habits as well as provided methods for me to get better at studying. After reading this book, I hope that my studies and grades will become better.
