Stephen Cole (born 1971) is an English author of children's books and science fiction. He was also in charge of BBC Worldwide's merchandising of the BBC Television series Doctor Who between 1997 and 1999: this was a role which found him deciding on which stories should be released on video, commissioning and editing a range of fiction and non-fiction titles, producing audiobooks and acting as executive producer on the Big Finish Productions range of Doctor Who audio dramas.
As there is an error in this book listing I'm writing here about two of the 10th doctor books:
1. Doctor Who: Tenth Doctor Novels - eight adventures. This features the Doctor and Martha Jones, not Donna Noble. It's narrated by a number of people, including Freema Agyeman (plays Martha) but not David Tennant or Catherine Tate. This is the first volume of four collections of novels, each featuring the Doctor and Martha. The latest (vol 4) released January 2019. Volume 1 is a great collection and I'm about to get volume 2. I personally think Martha is/was an excellent companion and am thoroughly enjoying these stories!
2. Doctor Who: Tenth Doctor Tales, which is what the other reviews are referring to it seems - although it also appears to have a book cover where it's entitled Tenth Doctor Adventures and this is the same book... There are seven stories in this book and they are narrated by David Tennant (4) and Catherine Tate (3). I've reviewed this elsewhere, as it's also listed under this title! This book is simply wonderful, I couldn't imagine a better audiobook than Tenth Doctor and Donna, narrated by Tennant and Tate. My idea of bliss.
The latter is the second book featuring the Doctor with Donna where Tennant and Tate narrate, the other being called the Tenth Doctor Adventures volume 1. In this there are three stories.
It really is very, very confusing and I'm almost not surprised see this confusion reflected in Goodreads. Although this means I'm not able to properly review a book I've spent 18 hours listening to (Tenth Doctor Novels, Eight adventures - the Doctor and Martha)! It would be helpful if the BBC planned out their book titles with a bit more thought 😂
Delightful collection of tales of the Tenth Doctor (and my boyfriend --- shhh don't tell the husband). I enjoyed them all, especially Dead Air, which was haunting and creepy and The Last Voyage. Those two were my favourite but they were all quite fantastic. I was actually quite impressed with the stories eventhough I downloaded just to hear David Tennant and Catherine Tate channeling their characters. Highly recommended from this little nerd.
I'm right in the middle of rewatching Tennant's Doctor episodes, so obviously I have to listen to these stories again too.
I have varied opinions on these Doctor Who novels - none of them are my favorites, but somehow all of them remain memorable in my forgetful brain.
The narrators for this collection tend toward overly dramatic in their reading, but mostly they do a good job. Freema Agyeman is fantastic! though I can't help but miss David Tennant's voice for these recordings.
A couple of the stories were pretty great and I wished I could see them onscreen! The others were OK, but I could take or leave them. It was nice to hear David Tennant and Catherine Tate's voices again.
This was basically a handful of episodes of the show in book form. All were fun Doctor Who adventures. No overarching plot or theme to the book, though. So, if you're a fan of the show, this is a fun bonus.
My least favourite Doctor Who collection so far. I found all of the stories rather boring and forgettable. I also wasn't a fan of most of the narrators.
