Temporary

Rate this book
The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.

And he wants two a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.

I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful — pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full time job for me. It has to.

But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.

And it works — if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can't afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.

Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo . . .

When reading a book that’s co-written, I love when you can’t tell who wrote what. When the flow is so great, you would never know. That is how Temporary was. Sarina Bowen is one of this authors I will always read. I love her work. Sarah Mayberry is a new to me author. I thought they did a fantastic job with this book. I’m already looking forward to more from this duo!

Grace is working for a temporary agency hoping to land a permanent job. It’s important to her to find steady work. She’s young and living in NYC, but most importantly, she’s raising her teenage sister, so she’s not just supporting herself. When a temp job comes up that could offer her a permanent job with a company, she jumps at the chance. She’s got to do a good job and prove herself, and then maybe she can get a more stable income.

While Grace is working, she meets Callan. Oh Callan. Callan is a hunky Australian guy who comes to the estate Grace is auditing, as the estate is Callan’s uncles. Callan and Grace have immediate chemistry, but Grace is pretty focused on her work. Or at least she tries to be… Callan is pretty irresistible to her.
Don’t get used to it. This is only temporary…

Callan and Grace’s temporary tryst turns in to more with time… but there are a lot of complications surrounding them.

Temporary was a book I didn’t want to put down. There was never a dull or boring moment. I loved the premise of the story and both of the main characters. I loved the build up, the emotional parts, and of course, the steam. It also was a lot of fun to read. Definitely recommend this book to lovers of cont. romance!

“He wasn’t looking to strike up a thing with a cash-strapped temp who acted as guardian to her teen sister, and I was not looking to have a fling with a playboy ladies’ man I found way, way too likeable.”

Grace is raising her teen sister and needs a good job, which is why her new temp gig at a renowned company means she has to do amazing work. Given the task of handling the assests of a deceased family member of the company, Grace is expected to itemized and get the value of a giant art and wine collection.

Callan is the nephew of the deceased, and he encounters Grace in his uncle’s apartment. An agreement is made that Callan will work with Grace but not interfere or hinder her progress. But Callan has an alterior motive, he believes his uncle has a new and updated will, which could potentially end up with Grace losing her position.

The attraction between Callan and Grace is obvious, they both feel it. But Grace needs this job, and she cannot risk losing it all for a hunky Australian.

“Don’t get used to it. This is only temporary.”

I always know when I read a Sarina Bowen book, I’m going to get something good! I’ve never read Sarah Mayberry before, she’s a new to me author. But I honestly couldn’t tell which author wrote what, so bravo to this writing duo! That’s the mark of an amazing writing team, I cannot wait to read more from these two.

I loved this story, it was so simple and yet it worked really well. Two people working together in close quarters doesn’t mean things will always be easy, but it does lead to some serious sexual tension. This was a really refreshing read, and it pulled me out of a book slump where I had quit 3 books before it! That’s how well done this book is.

Filled with steam, longing, and a little bit of angst, this is the book you need to read to keep you warmed up inside this fall!

“I will not get naked with Callan Walker during business hours. I will not get naked with Callan Walker during business hours.

IT'S ALIVE!!!

Surviving 100 days with Callan Walker

I think it’s easy to be selfish when it’s…easy to be selfish. Do you know what I mean? I’ll give you an example – I can’t cook, so hubby does most of the cooking in our house. Now, when I say I can’t cook, I’m kind of fibbing. I can cook, just not very well, or not as well as hubby does. So, while hubby is cooking dinner each night, I happily spend the time reading. Am I being selfish? Maybe, I should keep him company, or could help chop vegetables or something? But, I don’t. I don’t because it’s easy to be selfish.

Callan Walker has found it bloody easy to be selfish. He’s a good looking bloke with plenty of money and a jet-setting lifestyle. The life he’s lived has been fun and pretty frivolous. Why change a good thing? If it's not broken, don't mess with it. And, if it happens to piss your overbearing, controlling mother off...well that's even better.

Callan’s life takes a pretty big nosedive when Jack, his beloved uncle, passes away. It makes him stop and assess where his life is going. When he finds out that his estranged mother took it upon herself to have Jack cremated with no funeral, Callan is livid. He decides he better head to New York and oversees that Jack’s last wishes were honoured. Imagine his disgust when he finds out his mother hired a stranger to pack up Jack’s goods and calculate his assets for a quick sale. Over Callan’s body…or when Callan meets the stranger…under his body.

Grace has a temporary job she HAS to keep. She has the sole care of her 15-year-old sister and needs the temp job to become permanent. She’s determined to ignore the extremely hot Aussie and his sexy accent especially considering he's the boss's son. Grace is sure that his flirting is a ploy to get whatever he wants…and it may just work.

I really enjoyed Temporary. It made me laugh seeing the American character swooning over Callan's hot accent. HAHAHAHA!! I’ll have to make a recording of hubby to see if we can make my overseas friends swoon. If I sweet talk him, we can get him to say Bloody Hell a few times or maybe even get him to offer to shout us a beer (buy a beer). As an Aussie myself, I can vouch that Callan is the real deal. I’ve met Callan or blokes like him. Actually, that’s a lie. I can’t say I know too many Aussie blokes with six-pack abs (unfortunately). They must be all hiding overseas.

Temporary kept my attention from start to finish. There were plenty of scenes that packed an emotional punch. Both Callan and Grace have pretty messed up mothers at completely different ends of the scale. Callan’s mother is a woman who loves work over everything else. She’s controlling, manipulative and evil. Grace’s mother is not there…literally. She’s a drug addict who chose that life over her children and now it’s Grace’s responsibility to raise her sister Olivia. As a mother myself, I found it very hard to relate or imagine acting in either way. I’m far from perfect, but I do love my kids unconditionally and want only their happiness.

The spark between Callan and Grace was evident from the very start. Considering Grace’s need for her job, she held out as long as she could. I understood her logic of why she eventually caved. Even on your hardest days, facing the toughest battles, a little time out for yourself should be a treat to yourself. She didn’t plan on forever, Grace just wanted a bit of a spark to brighten her day. Turns out that spark lit quite the inferno for both of them.

Temporary was a great story about finding love when you’re feeling lonely. Callan, because he’d just lost the one family member he respected and loved and Grace because she was struggling with the pressure of raising her sister on a temp’s salary. Two very different people, living very different lives, finding a connection that neither could deny. It wasn’t easy and it was definitely bumpy. Luckily, Callan can make a mean lah-tay (that's a latte, I'm trying to sound out how I say it) and offer an Iced VoVo (bikkies) to tempt your taste buds…and help you forget he’s a drongo.

I will definitely be back for more from this author duo and by that ending, there’s hopefully more already in the works.

This is my first book from these authors together and I really enjoyed it.I hope we can see more from these two, the story was beautiful and the writing flawless.

Temporary was amazing, it has everything I wanted in a story and even more.It has angst, intensity, tension and a great romance.I loved Callan and Grace, and I enjoyed their dual points of view.I felt more intimidate with both of them.Their romance was great and their dialogues were smart and flirty.

Overall, it was refreshing and I would be happy to read soon more of Sarina and Sarah.

The most beautiful man I've ever seen is the one who can ruin everything...”

A woman barely making ends meet and a playboy that holds a piece to one of the world's most powerful business empires couldn't possibly have anything in common...or could they?
I had ignored the fact that we could not have two more wildly divergent lifestyles. I had ignored everything and let myself get swept away.

Grace is barely keeping a roof over her head while taking care of her teenage sister. With an addict for a mother and a father long out of the picture, Grace is all her sister Olivia has. A temp job for the Walker empire is exactly the chance that she needs. The possibility of turning it into a permanent position is what she hopes. But finding herself at the beck and call of the powerful and cold head of the business is not what she expects. When her assignment is to make sure that the estate of her boss's recently passed brother are documented and quickly taken care of, the last thing she needs is the meddling of the prodigal son.
He wasn’t looking to strike up a thing with a cash-strapped temp who acted as guardian to her teen sister, and I was not looking to have a fling with a playboy ladies’ man I found way, way too likeable.”

Callah has left behind everything that made him a Walker. A ruthless mother that cares nothing for his happiness, and a sister blindly serving his mother's whims, his beloved uncle was the only person that showed him any love. He'll be damned if he allows his estate and life to be packed up in boxes with a cold efficiency that only his mother is capable of. The one thing he doesn't anticipate is the beautiful temp sent to do his mother's bidding.
No flirting, no touching, no eye-fucking, no dirty-talk between nine and five. And that includes lunch."

Temporary was a slow build that admittedly I struggled a bit to get into at first. The first 30% really sets everything up, but at a pace that didn't quite hook me. I immediately fell for the main characters. There was always so endearing about both Grace and Callan. Perhaps it was the fact that there's so much more to them than first meets the eye. Callan is not the typical bad boy and playboy that you expect. This is a man with plenty of depth to him, and the more you find out about him, the harder you fall for him. Grace is a woman that's barely getting by, but there's this tenacity to her that you can't help but respect. She's doing her best and try as she might to ignore the pull to the handsome man that she has no business getting involved with, inevitably it proves to be too much.
Don’t get used to it. This is only temporary.”

The secondary characters of Claire and Olivia added to the mix perfectly and come the second half, I was hooked. This was a delicious slow burn romance with characters that you can't help but root for. It was swoony, sexy, humorous, and utterly endearing.

“The most beautiful man I've ever seen is the one who can ruin everything...”

I love Sarina Bowen and in my opinion her colabs with other authors have always worked and I have enjoyed those books. So it is no surprise that I couldn’t wait to read Temporary, a collaboration by Sarina this time with an author that is new to me, Sarah Mayberry. This book was a fun and easy read and kept me fully engaged with great character development. The more I read about them, the more I loved them. It had some emotional and intense parts which just added to the dynamic mix that is Temporary.

Grace is working as a temp for the company Walker Holdings in the hope that by working hard, she proves herself and in turn lands a permanent position and a steady income. That income is not only to support herself, but also to support her fifteen-year-old sister, whom she is singlehandedly raising.

An opportunity presents to Grace to prove herself to not only her immediate manager, but also to the CEO of Walker Holdings, Victoria Walker. Grace is approached by Victoria to take over the dealings of the estate of her recently passed away brother, Jack.

When Grace arrives at Jack's apartment to start the appraisals, she meets Callan, Jack’s nephew. Grace is automatically attracted to the hot Aussie, but she won’t let that cloud her focus. She has a job to do and is determined to do it well… but the hot Aussie is becoming too damn hard to resist.

“The day we met, I’d been disgusted by my mother hiring a temp to dispose of Jack’s life, Now I understood that hiring Grace had been her greatest gift to me. My mother didn’t know it, but she had changed my whole outlook on life.”

The more time Callan and Grace spend together the more their relationship develops into something so much more. The attraction and chemistry between the two was intense and even though they come from two different walks of life, they worked well together. “Will they stand the test of time or will it all fizzle if Callan’s snobby mother finds out? What’s going to happen with Grace’s job?” These were questions I kept asking myself and the intrigue of what was going to happen meant I simply could not put this story down.

I’m a 100% born and bred Aussie and I’m always a little worried about reading stories with Australian characters; whether the author will use correct slang and terminology synonymous with Australia. Having an Aussie co-write Temporary though, was the icing on the cake because it made it that much better for me; more natural and realistic. I am in complete agreeance with Callan, Tim Tams are so much better than iced Vovo’s.

Temporary was an enjoyable story from start to finish; I loved the lighter, fun side and the more heavy and emotional side. It was just the perfect mix for me. The writing was flawless which kept me engaged and I loved the characters, their passion and steam. I definitely recommend this story to anyone who loves their contemporary romances about two different people, from two different backgrounds coming together and finding love and comfort within each other, which at times is not always easy and sometimes things get worse before they get better. I can’t wait to read what this dynamic duo comes up with next, I have a feeling it’s going to be a cracker.

Sarina Bowen is an auto-read author for me whilst Sarah Mayberry isn't—I've read as many of her books that haven't worked versus those that have—so I'll admit to being interested in seeing how Temporary would work out for me.

"This man would be the death of me."

The foundations for a great story were there: wealthy Aussie playboy, Callan arrives in New York following the death of his beloved uncle to discover his callous mother has hired a temp, Grace, to create an inventory of her brother's estate. He's grieving and determined to find the missing will his uncle wrote to stop his mother claiming everything, she has a job to do and can't risk it no matter how attracted to him she is as she's raising her younger sister on a shoestring budget. It was all there for the taking, yet I didn't get much of a connection from Grace and Callan for a good 50/60% of the book which was a real shame as they were great characters.

"No flirting, no touching, no eye-fucking, no dirty-talk between nine and five. And that includes lunch."

Everything good about this story came in the last 40%: the depth and chemistry it was lacking, the intimacy and some great humour courtesy of Grace's 15 year-old sister, Olivia. And it was all this, albeit late, which saved it for me and the boredom dissipated: boredom being something that never ever occurs when I read a Sarina Bowen book and I've read many, but it is something I've experienced from Sarah Mayberry so I can't help but come to certain conclusions over why this was the case.

"...hiring Grace had been her greatest gift to me."

After turning the final page I don't think I'd be too far off the mark in thinking that there may be another potential opportunity for these two authors involving Callan's sister Claire. And, whilst I didn't love this, they've done enough to pique my interest if this is the case.

Honestly, now thinking about it, it made me uncomfortable reading how ashamed she was of being poor. I mean, it’s one thing you get tired of working so much and barely make ends meet. But it’s something completely different to think that being poor is shameful and try to hide that fact from people because you can’t allow people to find out how simple you are. Like avoiding to take people to your house because you’re embarrassed of where you live. I was raised thinking nobody is better than anybody because of money. What makes people better than others is behavior, attitudes, choices you make. You’re financial condition doesn’t define you character. She was embarrassed of eating her sandwich in front of the male mc and she would rather eat outside and being cold than eating inside, because God forbid what would he think if he saw her eating a peanut butter sandwich.
I can’t relate to shallow, vain people like this. So yes, I save myself from become more annoyed

Zero chemistry. I can’t connect with these characters. I don’t see lust much less love between the 2. Cliche story about a poor girl and the rich guy. She needs the job to pay the bills and support her sister. Of course her “hormones are out of control “ in the presence of the male.Seeing him in a towel is reason enough to forget what she was going to do, and starting babbling. Like one of my GR friends said: why so much blushing and astonishment in seeing a naked man? In her early to mid 20s she probably saw at least one naked man, I assume. Because she had lived with a man before. Maybe he took showers like the old days: wearing a white gown. Who knows?!
Besides nothing happens in this book. Every morning he makes coffee for them. They work around the apt sorting the dead uncle’s belongs. She thinks about how poor she is and how she needs the job. He regrets he did nothing productive with his rich ass. She goes home to her sister. He walks the dog and goes to sleep. Rinse-repeat. This for over 30% of the book.

“She was staring at me, so I picked up the tamper and compressed the coffee grounds. I fitted the filter into the grouphead and turned on the machine “ male mc

“Everything was dreary. But at least I was wearing Chanel” female mc ( priorities lol- pathetic)

“I didn’t know where to look, because there seemed to be nothing but stupendously hot, hard male as far as the eye could see. The towel hit him a few inches above his knees, showcasing muscular thighs and calves. His belly was a work of sculptural art, all peaks and valleys and firm looking muscle. I stared at first one flat nipple, then the other. Then-somehow-I managed to hinge my gaping jaw shut and lift my gaze to his face. “ - from female mc

What led to this when he offered her the coffee:
“I almost forgot to close my fingers around the hot glass, but some self-preserving instinct kicked in at the last second “ -from female mc

It still amazes me how a person can go from smart to extremely brainless stupid because of a man. Is this supposed to be cute? Or show how attracted she was to him? It
failed miserably because chemistry here is negative 10.

So I decided DNF. I’m too annoyed and bored with this book. If at 30% it didn’t catch my interest of keeping turning the pages and see if something else happens, I should do as much as cut my losses. There is precious time was wasted here.

There’s a new writing duo in Town and they come bearing the gift that is Australia’s hottest export, Callan Walker.

A man like Callan is just the kind of distraction Grace needs, but one she simply can’t afford. She’s desperate to find a stable permanent job in order to support herself and her fifteen year old sister, so when the opportunity arises to do just that, she won’t allow the walking temptation that is Callan Walker to stand in her way.

Grace Kerrington stands in the way of Callan being able to fulfil his beloved late uncle’s last wishes. More content to spend his time Island hopping, Callan has no desire to take his place in the family’s multi-million dollar business. It’s been a bone of contention between himself and his mother and their relationship flits between frosty to non-existent. By default any one employed by his mother is on the side of the enemy, but in order find the information he requires, he needs to temporarily play nice with Grace.

Forced to work together, they have no choice but to come to an uneasy truce. An unease that is made greater by the ungodly amount of attraction they for have one another. As Callan Playboy façade begins to slip, so too do Grace’s career prospects.

I really enjoyed peeling back the layers and getting down under with Callan. There’s a vulnerable boyish charm to him, and seeing that side to him was wholly endearing. Whilst Grace’s social predicament may have been a precarious one, I was instantly enamoured by how resolute she is in making sure she is able to provide for her sister.

I’m really looking forward to more from this duo. Whilst I’m well acquainted with the goodness that is Sarina Bowen, it’s always great to add a new author to the roster as I feel I have with Sarah Mayberry.

I'm so tired of books like Temporary.

1. Dual PoV, first person narration
2. Hot, rich guy who is totally misunderstood
3. Hot, poor girl who struggles to make ends meet
4. Evvvuuuuuuul [insert any family member here]
5. Lots of grovelling, which wouldn't have been needed in the first place, if one of the main leads had simply behaved like a decent human being. That includes consideration for the other person's situation and feelings.

If the story is about two people falling in love, I guess, Temporary certainly achieved that. How it's achieved is very much cookie cutter style.

One thing I very much dislike is giving - mostly - the hero a reason to behave obnoxiously or resort to manipulative behaviour. In this case, it's grief. So we watch Callan using Grace and her infatuation for him for his own gain.

That's not to say that the book is badly written. It isn't. I feel like beating a dead horse here, but I'm not keen on Zegna shirts, Valentino chinos, and Gucci brogues, 'tortured' heroes and heroines who can't think beyond 'AHMAGAD HE'S SO HAWT'.

Witty, charming, and delightfully refreshing!

Temporary is a passionate tale that takes us into the lives of two main characters. Grace, a young temp who is hardworking, resilient and focused on creating a better life for herself and her sister; and Callan, a sexy, Aussie playboy who may just prove he's much more loyal, honourable, and grounded than his reputation leads you to perceive.

The prose is humorous and fluid. The main characters are genuine, endearing, and supportive. And the plot sweeps you away into a modern fairytale filled with familial drama, palpable tension, sizzling chemistry, rags, riches, loss, heartbreak, romance, and of course true love.

Temporary is a light, fun, thoroughly entertaining novel with great characterization, snappy dialogue and a happy-ever-after ending that will make you swoon. I have yet to pick up a book by Sarina Bowen that I didn't enjoy, and this new collaboration with Mayberry is nothing short of magic.

I deliberated for all of about 2 seconds between 4 and 5 Stars. Who am I kidding though? I mean, really.

The stars were cinched when Callan (new name crush) started giving me Gideon feels. To be clear, he’s not Gideon but he is filthy rich, has a certain reputation as well as a tendency to run roughshod over people without them realizing it, because charming and has that unexpected vulnerability that sucker punches me every time. Plus he’s got an accent to add insult to all the hotness injuries his hotness is already inflicting.

Aside from all the Callan inspired swooning, I always have a soft spot for the Cinderella trope especially when the Cinderella in question isn’t a pushover.

Grace is no pushover. She and her sister Olivia have been dealt a shit hand in life in the form of a mother who’d rather get high than be a parent which is how Grace finds herself the guardian of her 15 yr old sister at 25, living in a shitty and minuscule apartment in NYC barely making ends meet and hoping against hope that her dinky temp job will turn into a permanent position.

Things start to look up when Queen Vic tasks her with cataloguing her brother’s estate after his death. The estate is not small which means she’ll have the chance to prove herself.

Except… Callan.

Temporary started to really take off for me once the details of Uncle Jack started to emerge. Jack was gay and the black sheep of the Walker family. He left Australia in the dust as soon as he could knowing he’d never be accepted and made his way to Manhattan where he made a life for himself. He loved. He lived. He was everything to so many and Queen Vic wants to erase him. She wants to liquidate everything and fold it back into the family business which is precisely what he would never want. I cannot recall the last time I hated a character as much as I hated Queen Vic. Kudos to the authors for making even a secondary character that memorable.

Jack was also the only father Callan ever really had and he’ll be damned if he lets his mother get away with this. The moments of real heartfelt pain Callan experiences endeared him to me. There may have even been some choked-upedness happening at Casa de Cupcake particularly at the rooftop scene. *clears throat* Damn feels.

Grace is sharp, recognizes there’s more to Callan than meets the eye and the not so innocent flirting begins to shift into need. I really liked the flirting not that Callan has to do much, because accent. I totally respect the knee weakening capabilities of an accent and I thoroughly enjoyed the little asides where something he said, something completely ordinary like shiver a.k.a. Shiv-ah would sideswipe her and make her all puddle-y. They didn’t try to fight their attraction for long. Grace knows that this is likely just a fling, just temporary and she’s going to enjoy it with gusto. The chemistry between them is palpable with a couple of scorching sex scenes. When he told her to hold onto the headboard… *blinks out* wh-what was I saying?

It’s well known that SB is an auto-read for me, but I’d never heard of Mayberry. They work well together with the signature well-developed and relatable characters I’ve come to expect from SB stirred together with Australian touches that I thoroughly enjoyed. I’m looking at you “Australians nickname everything” while side-eyeing the Vegemite and Vo-Vos.

The HEA was wildly romantic and poignant as was the resolution to the Jack storyline. While Grace and Callan’s story does complete the authors left it open for a possible continuation and I do hope that comes to fruition, because I’d like to know all the things, check in on these two and maybe (hopefully) see karma come for Queen Vic. Or maybe I have a case of separation anxiety. *shrugs*

Recommend to romance fans.

I love both Sarina Bowen & Sarah Mayberry so when I heard they're co-writing a book, I was ecstatic! I mean, two of my faves in one book? Take my money already! My expectations are quite high and fortunately, I liked it! I liked it a lot!

This is another slow burn romances where their feelings sort of built over time. I personally love stories where the hero underestimates the heroine at first and vice versa, only to have that expectation slowly turned on its head. Temporary is like that.

Callan thought that Grace is another shark in heels, willing to do anything to get a position at his family's company. His prejudice is a result of his past experience with his family and how his mother runs the business. Nevertheless, Callan is wrong on both counts. One, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being ambitious. Two, Grace's motivation is so far from what Callan initially thought.

At first I was nervous about the clear power imbalance between Grace and Callan. But Grace has agency and she uses it despite being attracted to her son's boss that when she gave in to her attraction, it didn't feel like she was manipulated in any way. It was clear that she knew the score and she knew what could happen but did it anyway because she was starting to have feelings for him.

The conflict between Callan and Grace felt organic. It was set up perfectly and wasn't just added for drama sake.

I have some issues with the main antagonist in this book a little bit because she seems like the typical Disney-esque villain with cliched motivation. But that said, I do feel like there are some things about this character that hasn't been revealed yet. And we might get more of it in the next book about the hero's sister. Or at least that's what I feel. I could be wrong.

Speaking of sister, I want Claire's story. I'm intrigued by her and there's something more to her than just her mother's pawn or something. I also liked Olivia. Sarina & Sarah was able to capture teenage angst very well.

Despite not being 5-star perfect, Temporary is a solid start for this new duo. And yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to reading more!

Temporary is my first read from Sarah Mayberry but I definitely want to try more of her books now. This story had my attention from page one and I finished it in almost one sitting. Grace and Callan had an amazing push/pull relationship that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was never sure if they were going to be arguing, or if they were going to be wrapped around each other and making their way to a bed. They had a sexual tension that was always right there under the surface, but that they both fought against for the longest time.

It wasn't a fast moving relationship between them and that's what I really liked about this book. It left me anticipating when I would finally get to see Grace give in to Callan's fun-loving personality all while I was cheering her on to take what the Aussie was offering.

Overall, I thought this book was a great co-written story and I would recommend it for all romance lovers. These authors mixed their two styles of writing together brilliantly and it wasn't noticeable at all where one ended and the other picked up. I may have only just finished this book but I'm already impatiently waiting for the next from these authors.

4 STARS⭐️

I was so curious about this collaboration between two authors I adore and it did not disappoint!

Rich and obnoxious Aussie playboy Callan Walker makes it very difficult for struggling but tenacious New Yorker temp, Grace Kerrington to keep her job!
Except… There is more to Callan Walker than his partying ways and Grace Kerrington will have to try her damnedest to resist him and his mischievous antics.
I will not get naked with Callan Walker during business hours. I will not get naked with Callan Walker during business hours.

Temporary was the perfect easy going read, high on chemistry, low on angst with a nice touch of steam and a pinch of drama.

I knew from the start that I would enjoy Temporary, the premise of a hate to love you trope is always sign of a good time in my romance books and I can safely and gladly say this : the slow burn between Grace and Callan was amazing!

Filled with repressed feelings, lust and resentment, I enjoyed every banter and dialogue between them, it felt genuine, sincere and I was especially receptive to their brand of humor.

Throughout the first half of the book, I felt as if I was that little red devil perched on Grace's shoulder, whispering dirty thoughts and pushing her to act on her impulses, responsibilities be damned! The attraction between her and Callan was evident and it felt inevitable for them to act on their desires.
No flirting, no touching, no eye-fucking, no dirty-talk between nine and five. And that includes lunch.

I loved Grace! She was persistent and opinionated—my kind of woman— and although struggling to keep her head afloat, take care of her minor sister, she still kept some sparks and sass.

Callan’s character was complex and multi layered, presented as your typical in your face obnoxious hottie, he revealed himself to be a great hero. We’ll forgive him his asshole ways and the few times he toyed with Grace's feelings to get to his means. Especially after witnessing the surges of protectiveness and care for Grace and her sister.

A special note about Olivia, Grace’s sister {sistah}, she was a delight to read! Amusing, charming, annoying, and everything in between, she was your typical teenager portrayed to perfection! Major crush for this secondary character!

Can we say about a book that it’s a grower, I wonder {wondah}?
Now comes the time I must admit, it took me a moment to get into the book. Or more precisely it took me some time to feel a connection to both main characters. Strangely I started getting attached when their antagonism reached its peak then came the end of the book I was sad it was already over!

Another thing preventing a 5 stars rating for this book was the villain of the story. The evil mother from Oz, omnipresent and clouding everyone happiness ‘just because’ felt a bit overdone to me and coming from nowhere.

All in all Temporary was very pleasant, the indisputable chemistry between Grace and Callan, the engaging dialogues and humor, the slow burn romance and acts of kindness of the supposed asshole hero, more than made it up for a late start.

Grace just started her newest temp job at Walker Holdings - a huge Australian food import company. She's hoping so very much that this time it will turn into a real job.
And now here's her chance - the boss lady from Australia tasks her with cataloging her just deceased brother's art and wine - basically everything in his amazing apartment.
Enter Callan.
He just heard that his beloved uncle passed away. Uncle Jack was the only one in his horrible family who he was still talking to. And now his mother inherited everything? She hated her overly gay brother!
There must be a newer will than this 30 year old one! Callan moves into his uncle's apartment to find it.
And flirt with Grace - who he believes is one of his mother's minions!
But of course she's not. She just needs this job to feed herself and her sister and to keep a roof over their heads.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO GRACE & CALLAN???
WILL THERE BE A HEA??
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT ☺

Awww ... that was amazing!

I could almost hear Callan's sexy Aussie accent through my kindle! ☺

I loved this book. It was funny and adorable and sexy and so very moving (book-blogger-tears might have been involved!) and ... ugh ... I really enjoyed reading it!

Callan is sooo adorable! People think he's just this sexy jet set party guy. But he's so much more.
And the longer they're in that apartment together, the more Grace falls for him. But she can't allow herself to fall for him - he will leave again soon. And she's been hurt like that before.
And grrrrr, Callan's mother. What a b*tch!!!!!

This was such a great romance!
The reader has such an amazing time watching Callan and Grace fight for their Happily Ever After.
It's exciting and funny and sexy and sad and moving and hopeful and just so sweet!

I wish Uncle Jack would still be alive - he seems to have been an amazing guy!

TEMPORARY was such an adorable & moving & funny & sexy love story!
Run to your nearest amazon for your own Callan! This one is MINE!!!
But hurry, he'll be sold out in no time! ☺

.... P.S. there might be more coming from these two authors - we kind of have a Half-Cliffy - not for Callan and Grace, but for someone else - there are some people left who might want to find their HEA!!! YAY! ☺

4 Working Together Stars

This is my first book by Sarah Mayberry and Sarina Bowen is a one-click author for me. I love it when authors work together because I am always curious to how the writing will go.

Temporary is an easy going read with plenty of tension, character buildup and chemistry between Callan and Grace.

The things I enjoyed about this book…

I really liked the dynamics between Callan and Grace. This is a super meaty book, so there’s plenty of time for the characters to get to know each other. It never felt like it dragged and the dialogue completely flowed.

I liked the storyline, it wasn’t so out there and it was a simple one. Callan’s uncle dies and someone needs to go through the Estate and get it ready for sale. The problem? The Estate is left to his mother and Grace is handling it. Callan wants the proceeds of the sale to go to charities. I don’t read many books with this plot and it was an interesting idea in bringing the two characters together. This created tension since they were on opposite sides.

I liked that an Aussie author wrote an Aussie character. I’m not an expert or anything but it’s REALLY hard for an American author to pull off a non-American character. Every time I read slang or something non-American it always feels non-organic, but I never got this with Callan.

What I felt like could have been written differently.

I picked up this book because Grace is a raising her sister. I felt like the sister is kind of thrown out in the beginning. At one point I forget she was in the book until towards the middle. I felt like there should have been a better flow of writing the sister in and been a little more consistent. I also found her character hard to like. I usually don’t like it when the kids aren’t amicable.

Grace’s past is kind of hinted in the book and again, I felt like this was an after thought and didn’t really add anything to the story. It didn’t hinder my experience, but again, it felt like an afterthought.

Overall, it’s a good contemporary book. It’s usually hard for me to get into contemporary books because I like something a little dramatic, but Temporary really engaged me and I read every word and read it in one sitting.

I’m already a Sarina fan and it’s nice I can add Sarah Mayberry to my list.

Temporary is a somewhat different take on the office romance trope, and a refreshing one at that.

Grace is a poor New Yorker with a temp job at a billion dollar family-owned company. Callan is a wealthy Australian playboy and the family’s black sheep. Funny enough, this is an office romance where their interactions don’t actually take place in an office, and while the affair doesn’t occur between boss and employee, it’s still forbidden. Callan’s cold, ruthless mother is the CEO, and Grace reports to her. If Callan and his mom were close, a relationship between him and Grace probably wouldn’t be off limits. However, her need for job security requires Grace to keep things professional.

I loved Grace’s huge heart and selfless care of others. Callan is a welcome surprise. With his devotion to his late uncle and gentle care for Grace, he is nothing like your typical rich man ho. I love a good villain, and Callan’s mother is evil incarnate. Having a common enemy creates some wonderfully warm dynamics and clever maneuvering.

Collaborative writing can be tricky, and I think Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry are successful in meshing their writing styles. Temporary is an entertaining story with just the right amount of romance.

Trust me, I am no stranger to the brilliance that is Sarina Bowen’s work, but Sarah Mayberry is new to me and I was delighted with how much I absolutely LOVED this co-written book. I love it when amazing authors team up to give their readers exactly what they want. When an author-duo tackles a romance, I think the biggest struggle is getting the flow of the story just right. You have two different authors, two different writing styles, but it needs to come together effortless and I believe Bowen and Mayberry achieved this in spades! Not only was I completely enamored by their characters, but I was so intrigued with the storyline. TEMPORARY gave me ALL THE FEELS and SO MUCH MORE! I wanted to experience it ALL OVER AGAIN the minute I turned the very last page. And not only did I just read a GREAT ROMANCE, but I got myself a new author to check out as well.

“I never wanted her to let me go.”

Callan and Grace CHARMED me from the very beginning. All throughout the story I felt like I was there, right beside these characters, feeling what they were feeling. The vivid imagery alone with this love story was stunning and at times, it took my breath away. TEMPORARY was unique as it was incredibly sexy. It was full of tragedy and deception, lies and secrets. But it was also full of a blossoming love, an endearing connection, and a slow-burn chemistry that had my heart in my stomach at times. The sexual tension throughout this story had me blushing for hours. Was this story a “keep your enemies close” kind of romance? In some ways it was, I guess, but the connection turned out to be much stronger than the deception surrounding it.

I finished TEMPORARY quite a while ago, but I still find myself thinking of Callan and Grace every time this beautiful book cover pops up. I remember that I read this in one sitting, hardly blinking, without any interruption. I remember thinking about how FANTASTIC this author collaboration truly is, and I remember hoping that these two authors will write together again and grant us readers with something truly special, just like they did with Callan and Grace’s story.

I loved this book. Temporary is everything I love in a romance novel. It is romantic, steamy, and funny. The story has a really nice pace, the main characters are well developed and likable, and the secondary characters add substance to the story, which is always a plus. It is very well written, and I couldn’t put it down. Didn’t want to, either. I find it interesting that, since it was written by two authors, you can’t really tell who wrote what or when they switched. Their voices are seamlessly blended together.

I loved this story from start to finish. Callan and Grace are perfect together, their witty banter had me laughing and smiling, and their chemistry is combustible. It starts like a sort of enemies to lovers romance, two people supposedly working together but in Callan’s case, with a different and hidden agenda. It’s fun to watch Callan trying to manipulate and seduce Grace at first, and Grace doing everything in her power to resist him. With very little success, though. But then, inconvenient feelings develop and agendas change. So besides the fun times, there is also plenty of emotional turmoil, too. All the family drama gives depth to the story, making it more interesting and heartfelt.

I honestly hope the authors decide to keep them coming, not only because it was damn good, but also because the ending hints at the possibility of a story featuring Callan’s sister Claire rather strongly. Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking.

3.25 Stars.

This is the thing about this book: it's not a bad book, it's actually pretty good, but it couldn't hold my interest. You all know I'm a die hard fan of romance and there's nothing I love more than reading about two people falling in love. And this book, for how well-written, funny, flirty... it wasn't romantic enough for me. The second half of the book, admittedly, held more heart than the first. But I seriously couldn't get over how many pages were spent discussing Jack's estates, Jack's will. It seemed like the romance didn't have a front and center place.

That being said, the writing style is flawless. It had never read a book by Mayberry, but have been a Bowen fan for a while now and I have to say that writing wise, these ladies did not disappoint. The narration was smooth, the dialogues realistic, there was plenty of funny banter. I probably just hoped that the characters would go a little deeper in their chat sooner into the narration.

About the characters, I liked both, but none of the MC or side characters blew me away. I found Grace's background relatable and honest, and I loved how the authors portrayed her relationship with her sister Olivia in a realistic way, and not just all unicorns and rainbows. Because let's face it, teenagers are hard to deal with. You also know that I love broke heroines and I appreciated how the authors also described the true life hacks the heroine had to do in order to be able to sustain herself and her sister, like sawing her own clothes from thrift store findings and eating prepared meal instead of going out. I always find it easier to relate to this kind of people instead of the rich and wealthy.

And talking about the rich and wealthy. Callan. What I loved the most about him was how genuine he is. He's a happy go lucky guy, with a shitty family, but at the time he's sometimes clueless about the struggles Grace has to live day. I liked how he wasn't portrayed as a perfect guy. More than once, he screws up, even putting her job at risk. But he's a such a fun person to be around that it was impossible for me, as a reader, not to forgive his misteps. I mean, the guys is actually trying to do some good. Too bad that his agenda is undoubtedly going to crash with Grace's job. A job she really needs. This is what caused the majority of the friction between them.

I won't say more about the plot not to spoiler anything. But in conclusion, I liked the book even though it didn't make anything flutter in my belly. Callan and Grace are a cute couple, but there was not enough epicness or romance in general for me, especially in the first part.

To end the review, I'll leave you with a sexy quote because why not?

A man like Callan Walker would be good in bed. He'd be dirty and adventurous, earthy and bold. He'd take no prisoners.

Sweet and snarky bliss…

I love these authors and couldn’t wait to read their team effort! Callan and Grace delivered a sweet, soulful and sexy story that made me grin, made me mad and even made me cry…

I want to be able to hear Callan’s Aussie accent as he throws in some slang in his often tongue-in-cheek barbs he sends Grace’s way. He needs her help but his attraction to her makes him question his not so stellar motives. He has good intentions – and the reasons why I’m totally on board with – but his playboy image and sense of entitlement may have sneaked in at first, overshadowing his admirable end goal…

“Maybe you know him? Smart mouth, with a poodle for a sidekick? Psycho family?”
“Sounds like a wanker”, Callan said.

I loved how Grace was juggling life as best she could. Her heart couldn’t help but fall for the handsome, sexy and vulnerable trouble-maker plaguing her attempts to get on a solid financial footing. Their adversarial roles quickly crumbled under the weight of the fact that they actually began to like each other. Perish the thought!

“There was something about Grace that had made me forget the cardinal rule…”

Slow, steady with moments that squeezed my heart. A eulogy that made me grieve for a character I’d never actually met and a letter that made me want to crawl into the pages were just a few things that made this story one I stayed up until two in the morning to finish!

There’s more in store for Callan’s dysfunctional family and I can’t wait to find out what that is!

Even the rich people cry....
Callan Walker...
At first sight, Callan 's Walker life seems perfect. He's rich, handsome, and has no worries or duties. Just snapping his fingers and he gets all that he wants. His hobbies : traveling, have fun and one night stands. Callan Walker is a playboy, one of the most valuable playboys. Women are craving for just a touch, just a look, just a smile from Callan. There is available an app which gives daily notifications / photos of him. But lets find out if there is something missing in his life....because even if he has all these privileges, no worries and no duties....his life is far from perfection. He recently lost a very important person in his life. And that lost will completely change his life. And that will make us knowing the real Callan Walker, a different Callan Walker. A guy who is not afraid to show his emotions /feelings. Who cares, cries, hopes, dreams and....loves.
I can count on the fingers of one hand, how many times I have read about a male character who cried about something or someone. It's impressive. That scene made me want to hug him too....(lucky Grace!)
And if I mentioned her....well Grace's lifestyle is the opposite of Callan's. No privileges but a lot of worries, about her future, her sister, her daily meals. But Grace even if sometimes seems to be guided by her personal issues, is a very ambitious, sassy, funny, woman. She's always aware of the priority of her job. That's why she tries so hard to keep her relationship with Callan on a professional level. But it's almost impossible, because he's temptation, he's flirting and joking (and makes decadent.coffee) every single day....
Until she gives up, and let Callan in.... And the chemistry is.....SO powerful!
But their love has so many....."enemies" One worst than the other... And that's when Callan becomes even more irresistible. Cause he will fight for her, and for their love against everything and everybody

This romance goes beyond the ordinary borders of a traditional one. It's more than a physical attraction, a simply connection or a normal relationship. Read it to understand all the soft meanings of a really awesome and deep love story.

Temporary is a book penned by an author I adore, Sarina Bowen and by another I've never read, Sarah Mayberry. This new author duo has something here; something sweet, something fun and something I need more of.

❝Everything about Callan Walker was a little more glamorous than I was used to. A little brighter, a little more perfect.❞

Callan is a man who was raised by a ruthless, self-absorbed mother. She knew nothing about loving others. Her children were nothing but tools to be used to further her career and social standing. So when she bribes his first love into leaving him, Callan swears off his family and loving relationships. Becoming the best Bachelor that money can buy, he parties and one-night-stands his way around the world. Until his Uncle dies and he is suddenly forced to set down temporary stakes. Becoming consumed with settling his Uncle's estate the way he knew his Uncle Jack wanted, he is forced to figure out how to maneuver his mother and Grace O'Malley.
❝I was out of practice dealing with someone as genuine and substantial like Grace.❞

Grace was the guardian to her 15-year-old sister, Olivia. Their mother was more in love with drugs than them. One day she vanishes leaving Grace the only choice but to quit her dream and work hard to provide a family for herself and her sister. Working as a temp may not be her dream job, but it pays the bills, for the most part. When she is assigned a job with Walker Holdings, she hopes to turn this temporary position into a permanent one. Her job? She is to create a detailed inventory of everything owned by Jack Walker, from tea cups to vintage wine collections. As well, she needed to contact auction houses and dealers who may be interested in purchasing his items of value. Between raising a teenager and trying to impress her boss, she did not have time for the smug bachelor who was derailing her. Her job was to dispose of Jack Walker's life, while Callan was determined to preserve it.

Neither expected to find so much in common with the other, neither expected to find love.

I really enjoyed these characters. They were both fiery, both fiercely loyal and neither wanted anything to do with relationships. But the more they worked together, the more their defenses fell, allowing their true selves to show. Jack was a great hero, we got to see his vulnerability, his need and desire to be loved. Grace was a strong female character. She may have questioned her worth in response to the wealthy man that was Callan, but once he showed who he was and what he wanted, she was all in.
❝I really had to get a grip on my hormones where Callan was concerned. It was starting to get embarrassing.❞

When I first started this book, it moved a little slowly for me. Admittedly, that is because I am a sucker for angst, suspense, or just generally fast moving stories. But once I settled into the story, the feels and excitement developed me, and I breezed through the book. A funny, sexy, character driven story sure to put a smile on your face, Temporary is a must read!

Temp secretary Grace is given the job of creating the inventory of the beloved late uncle of sexy, playboy Callam. Grace really needs this job, she has bills to pay and needs to keep food on the table for her and her 15 year old sister. Callam smells a rat and it also happens to be his own greedy mother who is trying to get the job finished as soon as possible for her own benefit, so can Callam find his uncles new will in time to carry out his true final wishes before Callan's mother gets it all? I really liked this book, the characters started off completely different from each other but their hot chemistry brought them together. The story line was interesting and kept you reading, the sex was hot and Callam's mother was a bitch from hell, the only problem I had with this book is that it finished in an intriguing and strange way, does this mean there's more? hope so.

Original review: The New Romantics

*I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.*

Grace Kerrington hopes to turn her temp job into a more permanent position when she takes on a personal task for the CEO of Walker Holdings. Victoria Walker has hired Grace to handle the personal effects of her deceased brother, however getting the job done becomes a challenge when she finds Callan Walker, Victoria's son, occupying his uncle's apartment. She's not quite sure the Aussie hottie is up to, but she's not letting anything stand in her way of a possible promotion...not even her own heart.

One of my favorite authors has teamed up with a new-to-me author to bring a standalone romance that will leave you wanting more. Temporary is a hate-to-love romance about two individuals who, despite their differences, are a perfect fit for one another. I already love Sarina's writing and at this point, I'm convinced that no matter who her writing partner is, she will never fails to deliver a feel-good romance. Although Sarah may be a new-to-me author, I'm already loving her writing style and the Aussie flare she has brought to this romance. This is the first book I've read where a character is from Australia so I very much enjoyed seeing the little Aussie quirks.

Grace is a selfless and hardworking go-getter who has been dealt a crappy hand, yet she still continues to push forward. She puts her own dreams aside in order to provide a better life for herself and her younger sister. She's really is such a great big sister. I adored Grace's relationship with Olivia and even though they may fight, they still have each other's back no matter what. I was totally charmed by Callan. The Aussie hero may be a big flirt, but underneath that playboy facade is a caring and generous man who only wants to do right by his uncle. I was not expecting this "nice guy" side of Callan and it just made me love him even more. The chemistry between Grace and Callan is very obvious from the start, but it does take some time for the fireworks go off as Grace is very hesitant to take things to the next level, with good reasons of course. But when they do go off, it's explosive!!

The only think I disliked about this book was the ending. It was open-ended and I personally found it to be a little awkward considering I went into this book thinking it was a standalone. The little twist left the possibility for there to a sequel and I really do hope that there is a sequel because I need the tea on that twist.

Temporary is a sweet and angsty romance by a promising new author duo and I'm excited to see what Sarina and Sarah have in store for us next. I'm totally here for more Aussies heroes as Callan has definitely left an impression on me and I need more male MCs like him to swoon over. I'm crossing my fingers for a sequel and hopefully this duo will deliver!
