Especially in the shadow of the recent North Korean propaganda display at the Olympics (which many in the American media bought hook, line, and sinker) Kim Hyun Hee's story is even more relevant. I just finished reading her autobiography, "The Tears of my Soul" and it is riveting. The brain-washing training she endured makes the Manchurian Candidate tame in comparison
Kim Hyun Hee was a smart, ambitious, beautiful 18 year old, when she was selected by Kim Jung Il's government for special espionage training.
In addition to martial arts, firearms, political indoctrination, and language training, Hyun Hee performed physical agility tasks (running 25-30 miles at a time), learned to be a professional stunt driver, and completed practice espionage missions.
All of this preparation was to culminate in the ultimate mission that Kim Jung Il ordered: to place a bomb in a South Korean airplane, Flight 858, which would result in the deaths of 115 people.
Kim Hyun Hee's story is one of brainwashing, confusion, murder, capture, betrayal, deprogramming, and ultimately, redemption.
I highly recommend this book.
