Surviving is worse than death... As the first days of the end of humanity tumble across the city of Las Vegas in the form of an overwhelming viral infection, turning almost everyone into vampire-like creatures, April Tate will find out what it really means to survive. What does it take to make it out alive in a place where everything is but a withered echo of its former self, and death does not come willingly?

Well this is a good start for the series. I actually read the first book first but this is nice to know who it all started. I liked the scene in the shop I don't think I'd be able to do what she did. I like the fact that she experiments to start to protect herself.

•••I listened to the Audible Audio Edition of this book•••

In The Beginning Of The End

This series must be listened to (or read) in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to listen to Reign Of Blood!

April is a survivor. First she survived her father's death. Then she survived her mom starting up with Randy. She even survived Randy trying to replace her dead father... So far. This virus, on the other hand, seems like difficult thing to survive. If the virus gets you it turns you into a feral vampire like creature with no thought other than to feed on anyone near you not also a feral. If it doesn't get you... The ferals will unless you kill them first. How will they survive? Will she be able to keep her baby brother Jeremy and her mother safe as well? How do you hide from a disease and those inflicted? Will life ever be normal again?

*** This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers who like their new adult apocalyptic stories with a strong heroine and loads of monster killing fun :)

Dystopian Zompire Hunting Addict *raises hand*
Resonant is a short bit of added awesome to a highly addictive series about vampires turned zombies, now zompires, & a girl who will stop at nothing as she learns what survival truly means.
Purdy never ceases to amaze me. I love this series, love these characters, love this world!!! If you haven't read her Reign of Blood series yet....you really should!
*This is no mushy romance & you will not find any sparkling amongst the vamps. It is however an intense explosion of emotions, suspense, fear, love, despair, hope, & paranormal awesomeness that is difficult to put down once you begin.

A great read!

Surviving is worse than death…

An interesting read that gives you a peak into how the apocalypse started before you begin Reign of Blood.

Can't wait to read Reign of Blood.

Full of feral vampires, hybrids, lonelinesses, surviving, hope and uncertainty.

Perfect for readers of post-apocalyptic novels and paranormal romances.

Reread: Audiobook

A good listen!

This story gives you an insight into Aprils life right after the collapse of humans from the strain of the virus. No one knows for sure what life will be like now or how much worse it will get.

I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. This is from the series Reign of Blood by the author.

Great short story I absolutely love April and how brave she tries to be for her mom and brother and how a teenager like her has to grow up so fast to take care and protect her family. This is a great little story and I highly recommend it to all age groups from teens on up.

Resonant book 0.5 of Reign of Blood, The Vampires of Vegas by Alexia Purdy, narration by Anne Marie Susan Silvey
I purchased this audio book.
This is my first audiobook having Anna Marie Susan Silvey narrate. I enjoyed listening to her bringing the character of April to life for me.
This is a very fast audiobook…it was 90 minutes, but it starts to set up for the series. I grabbed it and listened before I started book 1. I originally purchased book 1 but saw the prequal and had to start at “Ground Zero” so to speak.
I enjoyed the short story. We learn A LOT about April’s family, the zombie/vampires, how it started and what is happening around the south. I enjoyed learning how you can destroy the “ferals” as April calls them.
It definitely peeked my interested and I am jumping into book 1 as soon as I am done with this.

I love Prequels! Especially after you get invested with the main character and just NEED to see what the heck they went through at the beginning. However, in this instance, I started with the prequel. Sometimes, this is a big no no because you are just not committed to the story yet. Well, Alexia Purdy is a new to me author and I am now invested in this story. I need to know what craziness April and her family are about to get into. APOCALYPTIC VAMPIRES! I read this in less than an hour and was so bummed that the story was over. But the best part is, I get to dive right into Reign of Blood like, RIGHT NOW! See ya on the flip side!

Great introduction to what is sure to be an exciting series. Humanity has been infected with a virus that changes people into feral vampires. April and her family struggle to flee in a fight for survival that will be epic. Ms. Purdy is a wonderful writer and her stories hold together very firmly, and her characters have a dimension that renders them so realistically that you forget they're facing monsters. Enjoy this anxious to begin first book of the series. I received a free copy of this from the author with a promise to review.

Not bad but nothing really stood out

Remember this is a prequel little diddy, so I understand that there isn’t a ton of detail in the story. Sometimes I think prequels are more enjoyable when you have already read a good chunk of the main series to go back and see where it started. That being said, I wanted to read the series completely in order. It wasn’t bad, there was a good fight scene that was intriguing, but nothing really stood out that drew me in immediately. It was more of a set up for the whole series.

Good Introduction to a Series.

Alexis Purdy's Resonant takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main character April is one kick ass 17 year old who loves her Mom & little brother and takes on the role as a protector and fighter. The whole world has gone to shell and they're facing feral vampire creatures that somewhat act like zombies.
Overall I loved this short prequel to the Reign of Blood series and I'm looking forward to reading the entire series.

We met the main character in the first of the series in this one and her family, how they survive over the first few days of the outbreak.

Short and easy. Sets the scene for the upcoming series. Narration this time is female and narrator does a good job.

Resonant

I enjoyed the preview. I gave it four stars because it doesn't explain how things happened, it drops you into the middle of the story. It would be interesting to find out what happens next.

It’s off to a good start

The story is well written, puts us in the dreaded atmosphere of the events in play.
The teenage main character is strong and resourceful.
This is a great start to the series, I’m looking forward to reading the next book.

Thank you to the author for providing this copy of the Reign Of Blood prequel. This was a free download as a gift for joining the author's reader list, and in no way affects the review.

I had already downloaded the first novel in the Reign of Blood series when I was sent this prequel. I'm so glad I read it first it as it blew away any concerns I had as to whether I would like the series.
I don't normally read YA or urban fantasy novels but this one had me hooked from the very first page and before I knew it I was finished!
It has everything and more to keep you interested - a gutsy, kick arse protagonist, an almost impossible fight against the odds, a virus, vampires ..... and the end of the world as you know it.
I've found a new genre to read and can't wait to start the first book of the series!

A strange virus is spreading through the air in Las Vegas, and everyone is susceptible. April Tate has watched friends and neighbors turn into vampire-like creatures before her eyes, and then she figures out how to kill them in an attempt to get her family to safety.

This is a prequel to Reign of Blood and it has set up April to be pretty ferocious. I like how April just does not assume that these creatures that are acting like vampires will actually fall prey to vampire folklore; so she tries out each method on the infected that she comes across. This is a good set-up for a terrifying world where anyone might become a vampire at any moment, without a bite! I can't wait to read Reign of Blood next.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.

this is the first book in this series I have read and I was surprised with the novella
people write about zombie apocalypse but this was so fresh and new.... a vampire apocalypse, definitely not something I have read about before. I am looking forward to read on with this series to find out where it goes and I would have thought it will be an interesting read.
you can see the strength developing of the young woman that is the main character, and her personality shone through in this novella along with her love for her mother and brother along with frustrations at her mum and the situation.
I did really enjoy this book, another outstanding nook for this author

I loved this book and have high hopes for the rest of the series. April and her mother may not get along too well but they will work together to do what must be done to try to keep their little family alive while watching those around them die or be turned into vampire like creatures. April both enjoys and is also sickened by her experiments to see what does and doesn't damage or kill these creatures but she pushes through knowing she must learn as much as possible if she is to have any chance of protecting herself and the two people she has left.
