Juliet grew up in northern California, where she spent her free time staring at spooky lakes and making up stories about the old buildings surrounding them. Years later, she still lives in California and she still makes up spooky stories…about lakes and the old buildings surrounding them. Like April in April’s Ghosts, she’s terrified of spiders and she’s obsessed with Hamilton. Like Lissa in June's Blood, she plays the piano...but not very well.

Spring break brings 3 best friends together, all with their own problems. April has been living out of her car since Groundhog's day, when her live in boyfriend decided he wanted them to be able to see other people to make their relationship stronger. James quit the university he was at because he was homesick and carried a torch for April since they were teens, but never had the courage to tell her. The third friend, Logan, who spends all his time texting his girlfriend that he doesn't know if he loves her or not.
The very first morning April is home cleaning out her car that she has been living in for the past few months, A very delicious looking James sneaks up behind her, dressed only in shorts and sneakers. Before they can even start talking they both get a text from Logan offering them jobs for the week cleaning up the closed Rosebud School for Girls. April wants nothing to do with it because the guys told her ghost stories about the place from the time she was 10 and moved to town. The school has been closed for 50 years. Logan convinces them with the six hundred dollars they will earn for forty hours of work.
They find out that it is part of Logan's punishment for letting his grandmother buy him a car, when his mother would never take a handout from the moment his father took off when he was little.
The are cleaning the basement that is full of leaves, sludge and slime. The school has been turned into a music conservatory and a rental for events through the historical society.
The ghosts stories are true and the ghost of a girl begs April for help.
April and James get trapped inside, every door locking them in. She tells James that the mirror in the basement that she was terrified of spoke to her and she saw the face of a girl begging her for help.
Will April and James be able to help this ghost before the evil spirit that wanders the halls gets them first? Will they be able to escape the school, or will they become a new pair of ghosts to haunt the halls?

Great short story. I found it a cute sweet romantic read, while still containing rejection, it never felt as if April just wanted James as a rebound romance. The story was spooky, with ghost, but was still sweet. Creepy, with damp dark basement rot. It entertained me, had a beginning , middle and end, without needing 3 books to tell, so it can proudly stand alone. It even told you future events. No cliffhanger to annoy me, yay. It was shot sweet and to the point, while being a nice spooky halloween , sitting watching the rain , by a fire comforting time. Great to tell the grandkids on a campout. So I give it 5 stars, because it did so much and didn't leave me disappointed, or needing to buy more.

I haven’t hit a book by Juliet Vane that I haven’t liked yet. She really does have a way of bringing her stories to life, and wrapping the reader up in the setting, in this case an old, dusty, haunted private school. It wasn’t just the haunted paranormal bits nor the old-fashioned quaint bits, but the mundane having to clear the basement of muck from a fallen tree and the threat of spiders, which April was frozen in fear over. Even with being the narrator, April had a lot of personality to her (quite a bit of which was her emotional baggage from her prior break up), to her relationship with her two childhood friends. Both of her friends had wonderfully fleshed personalities to them as well (Logan with his face practically glued to his cellphone screen, though still manipulating and quiet James trying to impress her). I loved the clean, sweet romance, and yes, I’m a fan of anything spooky, and I love urban legends and ghost stories. So, this short story hit the spot perfectly, as being a contemporary romance with a dash of supernatural. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.

Nineteen year-old April is home from college on spring break which will be very nice for her as she will get to sleep in a real bed for the duration. You see April has been living in her car for the past few months ever since she broke up with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend wanted them to date other people while they were still together. When he revealed this little tidbit April was out of there.

April is outside cleaning her car from the months of her living in it talking to one of her best friends from high school James and reminiscing about times past when they each get a text from their other best friend Logan. Logan has a job opportunity for the three of them making six hundred bucks a piece. April is like six hundred dollars that will get her a new place to live oh yeah you can count her in for the job.

So April, James and Logan get to clean out the basement and wonder the halls of Rosebud Academy for girls. April is not real thrilled about being inside Rosebud with all the ghosts stories the boys use to tell her about the place but she really needs that money. So she sets aside her fears or at least tries to and starts to work on the basement with all the old, mildew and smelly things.

April finds an old mirror in the basement with the reflection of a girl’s face that she has been having dreams about. The mirror seems to be haunted as it speaks to April. Later on She and James are wonder the halls of Rosebud when they hear footsteps they put the strange noise down to an old building with old pipes not actually believing it one bit though.

What does the girl in the mirror want? Why is she choosing to speak with April? Who is wondering the halls of Rosebud? How long have they been wondering the halls? What do the footsteps want? Who does the footsteps belong to? One click yourself a copy of April’s Ghost to find out the answers to all these questions and more.

April’s Ghost is a nice little introduction into a world of the ghost wondering the halls of Rosebud Girls Academy. It also gives us a glimpse into the budding romance of longtime friends of April and James. Yeah April and James have cared a secret spark for each other in their hearts for quite a few years. Another question to add is who is this mysterious girlfriend of Logan’s who he can’t stop texting? Why is he not talking April and James’ ear off about her? Maybe more will be revealed in the next book June’s Blood.

I highly recommend April’s Ghost to all fans of romance and ghost stories to tell around a camp fire or well anytime.

The girl in the mirror

A great ghost story. Especially if like me you don't mind a few chills but aren't into horror. Coming home for spring break meant that she could at least sleep in a real bed after the breakup with her boyfriend. Reuniting with her two closest friends they are employed to help clear up the old building that everyone has always maintained was haunted. Things seem to be going fine until she uncovers the old mirror. Whose reflection did she see? Why is she dreaming about a girl whose face she saw in the mirror? Great characters that are as diverse as possible. A plot that will keep you reading and best of all a happy ending.

I realized there was a prequel lol after reading books 1 and 2. I love how thus ties in to the rest of the story. There is definitely a creepy factor to older buildings and hauntings in general. I wish I had read this first just for the context relating to the characters in the later books, but it is a cute story anytime. I enjoyed that it felt like a fully finished story without a cliffhanger to draw you in further.

T'was ok I suppose, lil bit disappointing in the end. sounded a bit rushed, nothing special, n not much of a storyline. Certainly not spooky as I first thought. Just seemed like she had to do an a silly lil essay for school; don't know how old the author was, but Def won't be seeking anymore of her stories out.

The punctuation was fine, but the grammar; well! not much I could really say, it wasn't that fantastic read n she did miss a few words out of the sentences every so often.

I read this after reading the other books. It was kinda nice to get the story that was alluded to in the other books. Juliet Vane does a masterful job setting the stage and I loved reading from a different perspective. I am now a serious fan of Juliet!

Its a decent quick read. Like a short story you could boil down to around a bonfire.

Received a free copy for a review. I found the story interesting and entertaining. I have to admit there were times I bit my lip during some moments of the story.
