A nice sequel to the first book, more alien races that has my mind swimming already, I think, I need to read the Ember War series to better understand this universe.

What really happened to the Ibarran Faction and the ruling government, this book introduced (or gave us a peek, while savaging one of the protagonist's armor) to us the armor from the Ibarrans.

A lot of history, a lot of unknowns, I am hoping to get a hold of all these concepts, still the story really does get better and better.....

Gideon has now formed his lance consisting of Roland, Aignar, and Ch’ril, even though the latter three are not completely trained Armor warriors. Yet, they all three have proven themselves in the first book so now they are recovering from that mission and have just been given a new mission. It never ends, even in peacetime.

This time they are dropping onto a planet that mostly water. They are looking for signs of the Cairo which has been missing for sometime. Nimbus IV is covered in a cloud layer so they have to do a combat drop not knowing what they are dropping into. They don’t even know for sure if the Cairo or it’s remains are here on this planet. Still, they need to find out what happened to that ship and the crew. While it was a struggle, the lance does find some evidence and a recorder from a gun emplacement that had some interesting video recorded on it. Something attacked the Cairo and it appears to be human weapons.

So, now the lance is aboard the Ardennes, a much bigger ship and off on another much bigger mission. Someone or something is attacking the human colony on Oricon and the Ardennes and its fleet have been dispatched to find out what is going on. They believe it could be the work of rogue humans lead by the Ibarra’s, brother and sister, once held in high esteem by the humans, but since the Alliance was formed and the Hale Treaty enacted, the Ibarra’s have become outlaws. Their main contention is that Earth gave up too much when they signed the Hale Treaty. The previous war (Ember Wars) with the Xaros almost wiped out all of humanity. The Ibarra’s discovered a method to grow fully adult humans in nine days and give them a set of normal appearing memories so they wouldn’t know or believe they were “processed humans”. The Hale Treaty made the creation of “processed humans” illegal. The Ibarra’s fled Earth and took with them humans who believed that these “proccies’ were necessary to the continued existence of the human race.

Since they initially fled not much has been know of what or where the Ibarra’s were doing or went. Now, it appears they have some kind of battleship and soldiers to take on the Alliance military. They appear to be responsible for the loss of the Cairo and maybe stirring up trouble around Oricon. Admiral Lettow will lead his armada through the Crucible Gate and decide what must be done to stop the conflict. Little does he know that something else far worse than the Ibarra’s might exist in that star system.

I like these Terran Armor stories, but I think the training of the three Chief Warrant Officers was a little hasty. They haven’t been fleshed out enough and don’t know what they are doing all the time. Roland is expected to be good with a sword, but he doesn’t practice enough and no one seems to get on his case about it. Aignar is a problem once out of his Armor. He can’t fend for himself without his mechanical arms and legs. He can’t even eat normal food so when or if his Armor every fails, his lance mates will have to care for him or leave him behind. That’s a burden they shouldn’t have. Also, prolonged used of the Armor makes the body weak and unable to defend itself once they are out of their Armor. While it might be very, very difficult to stop these Armor giants, once they do so, the humans inside are not very threatening to anyone. The enemy will exploit this situation to it’s fullest, I’m sure!

There also is something going on that hasn’t been explained. All this mystical stuff with Saint Kallen and the Templars hasn’t been explained fully, yet. I’m sure there’s a story in there somewhere but right now we’re only getting a glimpse of what it is to be an Armor Templar. Still, this is very good reading.

I read it but remember nothing about it. Perhaps this was the series I read this year that had too much military gun porn? I don't remember for sure but it might have been this one.

Bulk input day.

Good, Tight Read, That Needs To Be Longer As It Reads Too Fast

Mr. Richard Fox, has authored a good, tight read, "The Ibarra Sanction (Terran Armor Corps Book 2)." It continues the saga begun with "The Ember Wars," and follows a new member of the "Iron Dragoons," Roland Shaw, a military orphan, who is an "Iron Heart...Armor."

Roland's "lance," he with three (3) other armor (mechs that are hardwired-neural linked to their operators), are orbitally inserted into a water world planet, searching for a missing Terran warship, its crew, and complement of "Path Finders (recon troops)." Upon discovery of the wrecked ship, fragmentary evidence of the ambushes, a few human remains, the lance returns for reassignment. A Terran Fleet is dispatched to a colony planet under attack by unknown forces, and upon arrival, two (2) different fleets are discovered in combat, and Roland is tasked with his lance to rescue kidnapped children.

Any reader who enjoyed "The Ember Wars," and "Iron Dragoons," will be happy with "The Ibarra Sanction," as it continues the saga, at a higher pace and level. Frankly, to this reviewer, it appears Mr. Fox is at his best, when writing of "armor," the honorable, warrior mystics. The story flows at a fast pace, so fast that this reviewer was disappointed as the book ended way too soon. The book can be read as a stand alone, but due to the multiple plot lines, an overall story arc that is heavily dependent and intertwined with "The Ember Wars," and "Iron Dragoons," any new reader will be somewhat adrift.

"The Ibarra Sanction," is highly recommended (caveat for new readers notwithstanding), and was too quickly read via Kindle Unlimited.

I enjoy sci fi. I really enjoy good sci fi novels. I like to use my imagination and explore worlds, creatures, events that don't exist in this real world or ours. Richard Fox HAS an imagination. I embrace his thought patterns, his story telling, his way to forge an alternate universe and create a coherent novel from it. But this novel was tough to follow .... not because the story was lacking .... but because Fox kept throwing the kitchen sink at my brain and dared me to keep up!!!!! I am a astute reader and can figure out things fairly quickly. But not in this case. As soon as one "thinks" they can cozy up to where the story is headed, and enjoy it, then bam .... here comes a new species of creature!!!! and not just one, two!!!!! And the species are at loggerheads with each other. I am SURE this will all be resolved by novel 18. But it tears at my pores in novel 2.
Novel is easy to read .... the introduction to new weapons, way of travel, species, not so much. Plot was good. Action was good. Just a lot of new ideas.
Pick it up and read it. But be prepared to pick up all the books in the series. One read will leave you unfulfilled.

Great story!

Roland's story as an Iron Dragoon continues. His lance investigates the scene of a ship's crash they were originally sent to rescue. What they find is locked in the highest secret level possible. Immediately they are sent on another rescue mission and begin to find more questions than answers. Even their lance leader, Gideon, seems to know things he won't or can't speak of. Charil almost red lines, Aginar almost dies, Roland is taken prisoner.

This book was fantastic! It was exciting and fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat to find out what happened next! I recommend it to anyone that enjoys a well written Military science fiction.

A fun military sci-fi series

Please note, I have not read Mr. Fox's "Ember Wars" books, having started with this series.
A fun read overall without all the forced crap a lot of military sci-fi has.
No weak, forced sex scenes or vulgarity to seem tough. I'm no prude, but I'm sure we have all read enough where s9meone shoehorned an adult word or situation in to a story that didn't need it. Mr. Fox adroitly avoids all of that while spinning a great yarn dripping with tasteful and skillfully employed humanism.
I don't think it will be enjoyable as a stand alone book, because the continued journey written here begs knowledge of the previous book.
All in all a fun read.

A good read

A good read for me as a new reader I enjoyed the book and have started to look for the next book in the series. I will have to have a look at what else he does to see if I enjoy them to. I have learnt not to put anything about the book as I end up giving the plot away lol. I will just say again read and enjoy and if you never heard of him do like me and give his books a read you could be pleasantly surprised

Very much a middle book of a series. It starts in media res and ends on a cliffhanger. And the action is reasonably well written, but rather routine.

There's nothing offensive here, but not much special either. There is little character development, which is disappointing after the first book. The overarching plot does progress, though it gets a bit far into "sneering, mustachioed villain" territory by the end.

it's clearly a bridge novel, but at least it's short.

Love this series and the Ember Wars Universe

As the title states, I love this Universe. The writing is superb and the character development is to notch. Standish was my favorite in the first series. I haven't found a character that I've fallen in love with, yet. However, all of the characters are likable. Definitely worth the price of admission.

So far so good

I have to admit I'm not sure I like that the Ibarras are now Earth's sworn enemies. We're it not for Marc and Stacey Ibarra, there would be no Earth. But this book ends with an interesting twist. So I'll reserve judgment until after I read the next book in the series.

Loving this series! I have not read the Ember War series so this is new to me. Been a long time since I was so in to a story just tobe shocked to hit the end of the book. Great twist to end the book.
It’s refreshing for a fiction author to have a nice smooth read that is not an epic 700+ page of every little minute detail.

Not quite as good as the last one

Stories that end in a cliffhanger are not appropriate, and this one has a definite cliffhanger. It's not as bad as some other books I have read, but it is there and shows weakness in a author's ability to finish without a crutch. That said the story was pleasant and at least I dont have to wait to read book 3.

Wow, didn’t see that coming..

This second book in the series in a straight continuation on book 1. It picks up the story and is still focused on the dragoon’s especially Roland. We find out SHE isn’t dead and seems to be even more powerful. About 2/3s through the book it takes a delightful twist..maybe if you read it you will know who is the bad and who is the good..

The Corps keeps grinding up Earths enemies

Mr Fox has a unique way of developing personalities without using up either time or pages or dragging out plot development. I very much enjoyed his writing style. I can't wait for the next episode!!!

Good stuff

I'm enjoying the banter between the characters and the whole Templar mythos that the author has going. Looking forward to the next book. Guess I'll have to read the Ember War books now.

Plenty of excitement in this one. The Toth (kinda) rear their heads again. The Ibarras remain an enigma, only heightened at the last page. A new generation of armor comes to action, and doesn't fare so well as Elias and the old guard. Ready for the third installment.

Iron knights in space

I lost track of this series somehow but I read this book and it was awesome! Like the borg are coming after humans that seem like a mix of warhammer and Templar knights. It’s pretty cool!

Do not buy. Poorly written.

Do not buy.
Stories are not well put together. Set ups for situations are lacking. Really sorry I purchased this book. Reading this book became painful.
Attempts to make the book read like it was thoughtfully developed failed miserably.
