Never a Slave: Sofia's Story

Rate this book
What if you accidently slept with the person you detest the most?

Sofia, a tornado of a woman, embraces her new life in London by living out a Saturday night of uninhibited (and partly embarrassing) sexual fantasies with a really hot stranger. She has no experience with one-night stands but figures she’s playing it safe by insisting on no personal information.

Oliver Austin is used to women falling for his good looks, charm, and success. What’s new is Sofia’s refusing to know anything about him or to ever see him again – especially after he delivers an Olympic performance in sexual gratification.

Come Monday morning, Sofia is shocked when she realizes that her new VIP client is not only her weekend hottie, but also the a-hole who hurt her best friend in the past.
Can Sofia, who is known to be without a filter, stay professional and be polite around the man who makes her blood boil in more ways than one?

Never a Slave is the third stand-alone novel in Elin Peer’s Slave series. Like the other books in the highly praised series, it offers complex characters, sharp dialogue, sexual tension, and surprising plot twists that will have you reading into the wee hours.

This is the third in Elin Peer's "Slave" series, and I wondered how well I would like it. I thought Oliver would be a difficult sell--he'd done some lousy things to Kato from the first book--but in true Elin Peer fashion, she redeemed him. Quite well, actually. He apologized for his bad behavior and poor decisions, and he did it at the right time: when things were going pretty well for him. But some pretty bad stuff happened to him--Elin never pulls her punches when it comes to realistically portraying the seamy side of life--and he healed and learned from that. Yes, his initial reactions were maybe selfish and a type of "circling the wagons" to protect himself, but that was understandable, as well. Elin's sense of timing, suspense and tension were perfect here!

Having said all this, it was clear that Oliver was going to need a strong heroine. We got her in Sofia. One of the things I liked about her and the relationship between them was that, while she was more dominant in her daily life, she responded sexually in a much more submissive way to Oliver. It created some difficulties for them at times, but it played out in such a realistic way. She held so much together professionally and personally. To let go and allow him to provide for her pleasure was remarkable and very satisfying--for Sofia and the reader.

I love how the friendships are healing after the horrible events of the first two books. Book #4 is next--and I can't wait!

I was seriously wondering how Sofia’s story was going to be because from everything that I had read about of Sofia in the previous books I had a feeling that it was going to be a completely different outcome. I already had a feeling that Sofia was going to be such an intriguing and challenging character to portray but yet again Elin Peer made me fall in love with this story. I found myself hating Oliver in this book to begin with because of what had happened back with him and Kato, however my opinion did change of him during the course of the book. I had a feeling from when I was reading the first two books that Oliver and Sofia would be an interesting combination as Sofia is one feisty person and Oliver likes to get his way and be in control in all situations, so with them being together it was going to be in an interesting one.

If I could explain what went on in this book then it would be a miracle because there is so much drama and emotion that goes on with this story and chapter in their lives. Elin Peer has created such a master piece with this series that will truly educate you and actually change how you feel. This book is like no other and if you haven’t read it yet then seriously you are missing out on so much.

Although I did enjoy Sofia's story, especially where Oliver was concerned, I am giving this two stars because there were a lot of errors and unanswered questions. I understand in the indie world there might be more mistakes than traditionally published books, but some were so blatant, I wonder if it had been vetted at all. In addition to spelling and grammar mistakes, there was a situation at the end of the book that occurred, that was never resolved. I will try not to give too much away, but the situation at the end with Olivers company had no conclusion. I was built up to be a big deal, yet there was no follow through. Who was it? I as a reader of the previous books I know who came to my mind immediately, but there was never anything mentioned. Again no follow through which was rather disappointing. One other item I would like to point out...when you writing a synopsis for a book, especially in a series where the main characters are known, use their correct name. The synopsis of this book on both Goodreads and Amazon say Oliver Aston. However, if you've read the other books, you know its Oliver Austin. This blunder is quite embarrassing and I can't help but wonder how much the author actually cares about these characters.

It’s never about a slave. It’s about a passionate and smart woman who will never ever be a slave to no one.

Meet Sofia, Aya’s best friend (from the 1st book which I haven’t read yet) who is smart, fearless, and a 100% career woman. She will never be a slave, even a slave of her own heart. But, what if it only takes one meeting with a strange guy, who turned out to be the villain who almost destroyed her best friend’s life, to change everything? Will she let her heart decide and be the slave of her own feeling?

My first assumption about Sofia’s story is that it won’t be in the same level of greatness as Sybina’s story. Frankly, I was mistaken. Sofia’s wittiness, sassiness, and her smart retorts are entertaining. Well, of course the hot chemistry and sexy banter between her and Oliver surely add up to the story. Even so, Sofia is not the dominant character in the story. Oliver has his own spotlight too and I didn’t expect the attack on Oliver will leave a deep scar that changes Oliver’s character throughout half of the story. It changes the dynamic between him and Sofia. Suddenly, I don’t think Sofia is a perfect heroine like Sybina. She is with many flaws, including her indecisiveness to take a chance with Oliver.

I love how Elin changes the rhythm of this book so different from the previous one. Here, you won’t find the war, the devastation, the slavery. Instead, you will find a situation close to our daily life and makes us think about how following our heart doesn’t always mean we will be a slave of our own feeling. Why? Because it is never about a slave.

This author just KILLS me in the best of ways!! I wasn't too sure about reading this series after the first book but each book is better than the last as all of the STUFF comes together and alliances and versions are laid out. In all of her books I have never wanted healing and closure for another couple like I did with Sophia and Oliver. The battle is fierce and it isn't just the two of them, their attraction, them becoming more. The desires, the fire, the passion, the freedom, the power, the healing, the peace, the completion. All of it can be theirs if only. . . .

If you have made it this far into this series you know what I mean. This author just wreaks you then puts you back together. Each story is a standalone but the full story is so much better by enjoying the entire series. Each story is amazing and emotional and intriguing and addictive and unique. I have no idea how she does it but this author continues to bring life to her books that are amazing.

First of all, for me there's a different between confident woman and high on her horse. And at the beginning of "after one night stand" days, she was the later.
Because he had done wrong to her best friend's man, because she sees him as a Player, because for her he's not that intelect enough, she judge him harshly. She even used the word "retard" on him.
I don't even care anymore at this point if she's in the right or wrong with him, for like they said, people who use foul words, don't have the brains for back up.
For me, this woman in her POV is a class A biatch who contradicted everything the author claimed about her.

Chapter six. The banters, their dialogue should be segsi but like a child throwing tantrum cause she's loosing her toy and he's like a boy playing with his food, their dialogues become childish.
Him being manipulative and her thingking she's so smart but in truth being easily lead on by his games.

Sofia a strong, independent women who is faithfully devoted to being Aya's best friend who made the mistake of falling for the one person Aya despises the most because he could have ruined Kato (Aya love). Intriguing, genuine and real. I know plenty of people who have not only slept with the wrong person but then fell for the wrong person as well. Then there is Oliver the player turned prince charming. I loved learning about oliver more than I thought I would. From the previous books Oliver has always been the villain but in Never a slave you get see who he is and how far he has come in this series. Oliver has truly won over my heart.
This is love story all of it's own and shows that not everyone may agree with who your heart has fallen for even your own self. But love conquers.

OMG!! Did you read book 2 of The Slave Series? Do you remember Oliver? If not, you'll meet him here in "Never A Slave". Honestly, I hated him in Aston & Sybina's story and thought Sofia was a bit brash and superficial but within the first few pages of this book I had to re-evaluate every preconceived notion of both characters as I fell in love with Oliver while wishing I was Sofia. Truthfully, I laughed and cried and tsked my tongue through the entire story. You've done it again Elin, thank you so much for another great journey.

Never a Slave: Sofia's Story (The Slave Series #3)

I already had an antipathy against Oliver because he had treated Kato really rotten in the first book. My antipathy against him became a little less the farther towards the end I came in "Never a Slave".
I was a little excited about how Sofia's history would be, since she has never been a slave, but as always, I was caught by the way Elin Peer writes.
Looking forward to read about Uma/Umbra.

Didn't like it as much, I felt left out of their first night together. Why did she just gloss over that. It seemed like Olivers attack was just way unexpected and then 15 moths later. Was all over the place. My least favorite of the series

Enthralling story

I enjoyed the story and drama. The sexual content was a little bit graphic. The twists and turns of on and off relationship as they tortured each other was enthralling.

Good read!

Really enjoyed this book. My daughter insisted I read the series and I am glad she did. It gets a bit steamy but has a good storyline. Thank you Elin, I have enjoyed many of your books.

This one is best of the five books but all five are written really good and you can follow the story line. This book contains sexually content! I like it and recommend it.

If you read my reviews, you will know by now that I like the writing of this Author; this book does nothing to change my view. This book in the slave series focuses in the relationship that the very loyal Sofia has with her best friends enemy, it follows how she innocently has a one night stand with Oliver Austin, without knowing his true identity, ordinarily it would not matter, until when she turns up for her new job on Monday, she finds out that the man she slept with is her new client. Oops! This book provides more information on characters we have come to know through the other books in this series that said it can be read as a standalone book. I particularly liked the way that the author built the depth of the characters and the complexities of friendship between Oliver and Kato

I bought this book after reading the first two and wondering how Ms Peers was going to work Sophia, a supporting character in book one and a static character in book two into the series as a lead character.I felt the book opened at the perfect time allowing all the characters from the other books to bring everyone on the same page. I was pleasantly surprised at how she cleverly weaved a protagonist from Aya's story that dripped over to Sabina's story into Sophia's as a likable lead character. This was a book of fun, lusty business mixed with pleasure without the heavy back drop of war and hostages and oppression. It was a nice step away from the others but I'm not sure I want to go backwards and read Uma's story next knowing how dark her background is. I have a feeling I already know who Uma is going to wind up with and I feel like she should have been written as a lesbian and fallen in love with her dance teacher. So I'm having a hard time moving forward in the series so I switched over to the color series instead and I'm currently reading Black.

I actually skipped this book to read Uma's story which is the 4th book in this series. After reading Uma's book I came back to read Sofia's story.

Since she is not from Spirima, Sofia's character is different from Aya, Sybina and Uma. Sofia is a friend of Aya who is like a sister to her. She is a good and loyal friend who is outspoken and very intimidating to most. This book was actually pretty good as she meets her match in a man who is the enemy of both Aya and Kato. It is a love story without the violence of Spirima.

Although I don't agree that she should have been part of this series, I understand that her story links everyone together as one family. This can be read as a standalone but I suggest that you at least read the first book The Accidental Slave first to get a better understanding of the relationship between Aya and Sofia and how Oliver plays into the relationship with Kato.

Enjoy!

I have to say that within this whole series I have not been disappointed. I was a little unsure how Sofias story was going to be since she has such a strong personality but in the end I was very impressed. So far this book and the other two have been great and I am already looking forward to the next one!

I think that this series just keeps getting better and better. This one has it all love, hate, fighting( not physical) I found myself trying to get them to pay attention and do the right thing. I also had tears and I laughed out load. Just a little something for everyone.
