Mira Brand Adventures #2

The Tide of Ages

Rate this book
“When I ran away, aged seventeen, I didn’t do it for the usual reasons...I did it because I was looking for adventure.”

My name is Mira Brand, and I'm a Seeker – a treasure hunter who can cross between worlds seeking long-forgotten treasure hoards of ancient races. My home is London, but I work in the worlds beneath our own, seeking treasure in places no one else will go.

Except my two companions, Carson Yates and Heidi Luo, assuming the arguments we've been sharing don't rip our newfound alliance apart. This time, we're after the Tide of Ages, a mysterious artifact hidden in a world of water.

It's a funny thing, the Tide of Ages – no one knows exactly what it can do. But I mean to find out, and win it for our newfound little family of Seekers.

If we don't end up drowning each other first.

This, the second book in the series, benefits from the leg work done in the opening volume. No premise explanations, no character introductions, in short - no colouring in of the background. And I think that it flows better as a story as a result. That's not to say that the first book was sub par- it definitely wasn't. Just that I enjoyed this one more.

The fact that the author has already developed characters that provoke an emotional response (serious frustration with Heidi in my case) is testament to the strength of the writing.

As always, Crane has crammed action into this book from start to finish - and then leaves the reader dangling on the hook with that ending, with the promise of more...

A high performing 4.5* from me.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Robert J Crane is cranking out a ton of books you may have a hard time reading them all. Mara Brand is his newest character who brings her own wit to the stage. It seems with each books Mira adds a new member of her merry band of misfits as she searches for more missing treasures lost in time. In Mira's travels we the reader are taken on an interesting voyage to new worlds through portals as this merry band fight and argue among themselves over how thing should be accomplished. As Seekers they have competition from others who can be deadly and some what fair at the same time. Also thrown in the mix is a strange suspicious personality who wants to keep tabs on Mira. Stay tuned for more Adventures. That is why we are here, for Adventures.

I found the second Mira instalment a little slow to start, but once the action got going, I was drawn back into the world of seekers, treasure and adventure. Looking forward to seeing what's next for young Miss Brand and her crew.

This is young adult. I’m not fond of YA, but this just sucked me right in!

Flows smoothly from the first in the series with plenty of action and adventure thrown in. Shows plenty of promise for future books as the characters stories unfold with time. This definately has me looking forward to the next one!
