This is a short story included in the Justice series featuring DI Lorne Simpkins and her partner DS Pete Childs.

The two of them have been trying to grab The Lynx, who is responsible for the deaths of several young women. And now he has abducted another girl who fits the profile.

The Lynx wants to play a game. The cops have arrested 2 of his men and he wants them back. In return, he will release the girl he has. But there are rules .... and surprises.

This short story (50 pages) is packed with fast action, suspense, and solid characters. An excellent addition to a terrific series!

Many thanks to the author who pointed me in Amazon's direction to get the digital copy.

I've just spent a lovely evening on the sofa curled up with this newest short story in the very popular Justice series by Mel Comley. But although short in length it still packs a hell of a lot in to its pages and the action is non stop right from the shocking and heart pounding opening.

Seeing Lorne and Pete back together (I won't be giving any spoilers away here for those who are still working their way through the series) was a sheer joy to read. I've missed their easygoing relationship and the way they wind each other up. They really are the perfect partnership.

I read this in record time and then wished I hadn't as now I have to wait for the next fabulous book from Mel Comley and I'm not the most patient person in the world!

Being one of my favourite series of thrillers, it's always so exciting for me when the brilliant Mel Comley releases a new Justice book. I love it how she quenches my thirst by writing short, fast-paced fillers in between the full-length thrillers. In these short stories, the author takes us back in time to when Lorne still worked alongside DS Pete (Chunky) Childs.

Such a filler is Irrational Justice in which Lorne and Pete are on the hunt of a vicious depraved serial killer known as The Lynx who has already claimed three victims. He has now just snatched his fourth... a teenage girl. Will Lorne and Pete save the girl and return her to her mother before it's too late?

Well I couldn't wait to find out, and being fast-paced I practically flew through this book. I always wonder how this author manages to pack in so much action, drama, suspense and even laugh-out-loud moments in one book. And let's not forget that this is a short story which makes it even more remarkable.

I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend not only this short story but all the Justice series.

Great short,intense thriller!

Wonderful to see characters Lorne and Pete working together again! They are police officers who try to work quickly to reach an abducted girl before her kidnapper kills her, his usual thing three times already. Lorne has been attempting to solve these crimes , the kidnapper called ' The Lynx'. Will they get to the girl in time, and the Lynx wants his captured men freed, can Lorne make that happen?

Woohoo! I do love a wee #JusticeFix and M.A. Comley gave me the perfect one with this little beauty! My thanks to the author for providing me with a ARC for review.

Set in London, the reader comes face to face with abduction, control, organised crime, judgement, fear and of course, justice!

What a fantastic prologue in this short story to immediately pull the reader in – with the suspense mounting – you immediately want to know more! There was a great flow to the story too! It may be short, but the impact is there without making the reader feel they are missing out on things. The Justice series is one of my favourites and I can devour any one of these books in hours.

M.A. Comley has a great focus on characters, even those she has written for years…we always learn a little bit more or see a different side to some of our faves! D.I. Lorne Simpkins has to be one of my favourite female lead Detectives. Right away, we are aware she is under some serious pressure, both personally and professionally. She has a strong sense of justice and wanting to do her very best for the victims and their families – often to the detriment of her own family. I love her to pieces! She is strong-willed, courageous and at times, quite vulnerable – but she won’t stop until the culprits are apprehended!

Thrilled that DS Pete Childs -aka Chunky- also makes an appearance! I like that he was a bit more challenging of Lorne in this book and maybe even a little critical of her choices. But it is all for the greater good as he is loyal and protective and just wants Lorne to find a balance.

The killer is cunning, manipulative and oh-so conniving. This person has Lorne and her team exactly where they want them – jumping through whatever hoop is necessary – will Lorne and the team bring this baddie to justice? You’ll have to read the story to find out!

For die hard Justice fans like myself, this is the perfect fix to get you through while we wait ever so patiently for the next in this series. For those who have not come across this series, it is a great little insight to the team and how they operate. Easily read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend all crime fiction fans get #HookedOnJustice!

Irrational Justice

I can guarantee that when you read a book by Ms Comley, you're in for a real treat that you won't want to end!

Irrational Justice is a short novella but don't let the length fool you, it's intense and addictive. I love that in between her full length novels, she treats us to a little taste of Lorne and brings back good old Chunky!

There's honestly nothing negative to say about Mel's books, if you haven't read them yet, what are you waiting for??!! Five stars from purplebookstand.

Boom!!!! Another fast paced race against time investigation for Lorne and Pete.

A 15 year old disappears after a night out clubbing and there is an evil criminal mastermind with a perchance for slaughtering such girls. Can the dynamic duo get to the girl before he has his wicked way with her?

At 51 pages, this short story is out the blocks at speed and goes faster than Usain Bolt to the finish line. It’s a read you can devour with a brew and biscuit!

Many thanks to the author for my copy of Irrational Justice!

In Irrational Justice, we see DI Lorne Simpkins team up with Pete Childs (Chunky) once again.

A lovely short but punchy story (read Sunday morning in bed)

A young girl is kidnapped by The Lynx, a monster already responsible for the death of three others and the is a race against the clock to find the teenager before she too is murdered.

Another great novella from this wonderful author.

I didn't want this story to end and I think it would be great if The Lynx came back to test Lorne; I think she's at her best when she has a nemesis to catch. This is a Justice short story, but it packs and punch and it's always great to catch up with the old team.

Once again the author proves short stories can pack as much of a punch as a full length novel . Fast paced and action packed this is story telling at its finest

This is another short-ish Justice story, set in the days when Lorne was still a Simpkins, but it is a complete story and a wonderful trip down memory lane for those of us who have followed the series from the start and still miss Pete. Be warned though, as per usual, there is a bit of padding at the back of the book. I'm not a fan of that to be honest but I don't mind too much as long as I know about it which is, again, the only reason I mention it here.
This time, Lorne is dealing with a rather nasty adversary. Nicknamed The Lynx, he is responsible for the deaths of a few young women and, at the start of the book, Lorne is struggling to catch him; lead after lead fizzling into nothing... Then another girl goes missing and it soon becomes evident that the Lynx wants to play. Could this be his end game and, if so, will this be the last opportunity for Lorne to catch him and bring justice for the girls he has killed?
All the elements of why I love this author's work are front and centre in this book. Especially the banter between her and Pete. I see them as brother and sister really with the bickering that goes on on the surface, but with the deep down mutual love and respect they have for each other never far behind. A relationship that is scarily similar to that between me and my bro to be honest, so much so, I am debating sweeping my house for some surveillance device installed by the author!
Pete as always is just Pete. Still miss that guy and all his quirks, but happy that he keeps popping up in these new short stories.

On The Trail of A Madman..A gripping fast paced read

Lorne and Pete have been on the trail of The Lynx who has already murdered three young girls and is one seriously disturbed individual... When they get a call out to a woman's house they know they have to move fast..Lisa Timmins aged just fifteen is missing..D.C.I.Roberts is on Lorne's back and time is not on their side..Then Lorne gets a phone call from the devil himself...He wants to trade and though Lorne knows it goes against everything she's worked for she agrees...Will she and Pete reach the girl on time? The Lynx is such an evil piece of work...This short story is a fast paced read Mel Comley is one of my top five authors...Love this author.

Once again well done to the very talented author for A fast paced short story that still keeps the suspense element even though it's a short story.

Thoroughly enjoyed this great, quick fix for any fans of the justice series!!

It was great to have some of the early characters back.

The killer whom Lorne's team have been hunting for the last few weeks keeps giving them the slip,
Will Lorne and Pete be able play along with the upped game to save the latest victim of the 'LYNX' or will it already be too late

I enjoy reading all stories in this series. This was a very short story and should of been free. I read it in 30 minutes. I would of liked a one book that contained all the short stories in this series.

Couple of observations.
1. Note this is out of canon with the position it is in the series...
2. These novellas/short stories need fleshing out a bit more at the end. They end a bit too suddenly and "coldly" (if that's even a word...)

Great little story to spend an hour reading on a lazy day. And what could be better than a short book from the beginnings of this series. I love revisiting all my old favorites and the fun banter between the characters. It's the perfect read for a quick mini thriller fix!
