Joanna Cole, who also wrote under the pseudonym B. J. Barnet, was an author of children’s books who teaches science.
She is most famous as the author of The Magic School Bus series of children's books. Joanna Cole wrote over 250 books ranging from her first book Cockroach to her famous series Magic School Bus.
Cole was born in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby East Orange. She loved science as a child, and had a teacher she says was a little like Ms. Frizzle. She attended the University of Massachusetts and Indiana University before graduating from the City College of New York with a B.A. in psychology. After some graduate education courses, she spent a year as a librarian in a Brooklyn elementary school. Cole subsequently became a letters correspondent at Newsweek, and then a senior editor for Doubleday Books for Young Readers.
A grab-bag of random trivia about animals and insects culled from fact pages from The Magic School Bus chapter book series.
My daughter never got that much into that particular series, but this little pamphlet was a Christmas gift from her second grade teacher.

Was not sure, when I picked this book up, that it would be a good read. It was! This book is filled with facts about different animals and other fun facts. For instance, the first parkas were made from reindeer skin. Did you know there are more than 1 million insects on the earth? This is a great book for teaching facts. Not sure how to use it in a lesson but it was a fun read.
In this book, Ms. Frizzle's students give different facts ranging from facts about sea life to facts about flying animals. Each student has their own assignment, which is written like a regular homework assignment in the book. This book is accurate and authentic in conveying the factual and documented material. The facts covered are all ones that the reader could research and find themselves outside of this book. The information is presented in an organized way, like papers and assignments from students' actual work from Ms. Frizzle. The format and design of the book are appealing and accessible for children, and can capture their interest and get them to read and learn more. The writing style is clear throughout the book, and it generates enthusiasm for the topics included. As a teacher I would use this book for a science unit, and place it in the reading center for students to learn more on their own about these facts.
We've read pretty much every Magic School Bus book we can find at our local library, so when I saw this book at a book sale, I had to take a look.
It seems to be a collection of journal entries from random books in the series. There's not a lot of coherence to the collection, but the facts are interesting. It's a short book, and likely one that children will enjoy reading independently.
Oh boy! I used to love watching these episodes of the Magic School Bus. This book has alot of facts and adventures that the students went on, really good for middle schoolers.
Excellent book about various topics that elementary students love learning about. Awesome that it is from the Magic School Bus! Very cool journal-like feel.
This book gets straight to the point with lots of interesting facts about many different kinds of animals. Would be a great early science book for kids.
It is a book of random facts. The kids liked it. We have the full set of Magic School Bus episodes on DVD, so they connect the random facts to the videos they've seen, and it all makes sense. No need to see the dvd's, just be ready for really random trivia about science. We like Ms. Frizzle's puns and Humor.
