Clarissa Vale spent all summer building a greenhouse with her grandfather. Since his health is failing, this is the last time she’ll spend quality time with him. The greenhouse is her pride and joy, and the one thing keeping her heart mended after getting dumped by a guy who told her she just wasn’t good enough. So when it gets vandalized on the first day of school, Clarissa vows to find the person responsible and make them pay. Gavin Voss’ home life is the very definition of shitty. His mom works too hard, too much, and for hardly any pay. His father is a barely-functioning alcoholic with an anger issue like a landmine, waiting to explode. Gavin’s only happiness is the soccer team--that is until the girl in his homeroom class catches his attention. Clarissa is beautiful, strong, and doesn’t put up with his shit. She’s also determined to find out who destroyed her greenhouse. Gavin falls hard for Clarissa, but he’s keeping a secret. He knows who ruined the greenhouse. When Clarissa learns the truth, she’ll want nothing more to do with him.
This is the third companion novel to In Plain Sight, which is set in the same world but featuring different characters.
Amy Sparling is the USA Today Bestselling author of books with swoony first loves and heartwarming endings. She lives on the coast of Texas with her family, her spoiled rotten pets, and a huge pile of books.
By day, she works as a librarian, and by night you can find her curled up with a book–either one she’s reading or one she’s writing.
Amy Sparling is the pen name of author Cheyanne Young, but she’ll answer to either name!
In This Moment is an "ahhh" inspiring tale. Clarissa is trying to reconnect with her grandmother's memory and spend time with an ailing grandfather. Gavin is trying to deal with a rough home life. Their lives intertwine in a less than fantastic way. Through the whole book a reader roots for the happy ending even when it doesn't feel like an inevitably. Amy Sparling has a writing style that draws you in and leaves you sad to leave at the end. Brava, Ms. Sparkling! Another great book I will be coming back to.
I really liked these characters; they were easy to see how they ticked and why they made the choices they did. Their flaws helped me cheer them on. Rated pg13 for lots of language.
I really liked this book. I wish TJ would have been caught as well and wasn’t such a jerk to Gavin. I also wish we got to find out if Gavin’s dad actually got better. I really liked the development of Clarissa and Gavin’s relationship.
