It’s been said to always forgive, but never forget. For Camden “Cam” Davis, doing either task seemed almost impossible. Raised by his single mother, Cam’s disdain for his absentee father intensified as he grew older. Being his father’s only child, Cam was afforded many luxuries that other kids his age weren’t. His upbringing seemed normal to his adolescent mind until reality stepped in. After rejecting his family’s financial support, Cam made money the only way he knew how. With his girlfriend, Asha, by his side, Cam soon found out that getting money the easy way was harder than he thought. Jail or the grave were his only two ways out and he found that out the hard way. Asha’s love for money outweighed everything, including her love for Cam. When Cam decided that the street life was no longer one that he wanted to live, Asha had a hard time adjusting. Being broke wasn’t a good look, in Asha’s opinion, and she was unwilling to compromise for Cam’s sake. Nothing or no one was off limits when it came to her conquering the almighty dollar. She loved Cam with all her heart, but he had to either roll with her or get rolled over. Being the youngest attorney in her firm was an accomplishment that Demi was very proud of. She worked hard to make a name for herself and her career had finally taken a positive turn. Regrettably, the same couldn’t be said about her home life. Demi’s husband, Kamari, was a former dope boy who found it hard to leave the only life that he’d ever known. Being orphaned from birth, Kamari had been fending for himself since he was sixteen years old. Meeting and marrying Demi had changed his life in a good way, but their differences was beginning to drive a wedge through their once happy union. Kamari loved his wife more than anything, but his alter ego was having a hard time staying concealed. With a host of supporting characters, watch how the lives of Camden, Demi, Asha and Kamari intertwine in a way that none of them could ever imagine. With lies, secrets, betrayals and deception on the horizon, it’s almost impossible for everyone to walk away unscathed.
Idk how Chenell does it but she's truly one of the best. This lengthy standalone was nothing short of amazing! The characters, the connection and the overall message really kept my attention. I love how Demi & Can started off as friends first. They didn't jump into anything and they had each other's back no matter what. Asha was a piece of work. I think she irritated me more than Kamari, and his insecurities. When everything came to light, there were so many secrets revealed but Randy's betrayal shocked me the most! I'm still tryna catch my breath! Lol Overall, this was definitely one of my favs from Chenell. She never disappoints and her books aren't rushed. She's soooo detailed with every scene and the anticipation builds. 5 stars for me! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I literally hadn't read a book in 6 months, but this one got me out my slump. I loved this book. Everything worked out great. So happy for Cam and Demi. Asha a most definitely got what she deserved. 5 star read....Great job Chenell!!;
His book was about redemption and learning how to forgive not only for that person but for yourself. The main character had a HUGE problem forgiving and it kinda blocked his blessings but when he learned to forgive the blessings came in abundance! Cam and Demi have been thru a lot in their own separate relationships it was only right that they would magically come together as friends and be there for each other. Asha was a money hungry a** b**ch and she got on all my nerves. Randy was a duck for real. I was so disappointed in him. A few errors but this was a really good book. Good job Chenell I see you growing girl!
I love this author and definitely love her ability to entrench her reading base in a fantastic storyline. That is why each time I see a message announcing a new release by her, it is a no brainer that I immediately download. Ms. Parker's stories are laced throughout with drama and intrigue. In this, her latest, she does not disappoint. She sets the stage which will pull upon a myriad of emotions, e.g., tension, doubt, anticipation, excitement and anxiety. Each emotional tug will have you sitting on the very edge of your seat and rapidly turning the pages in order to follow the path her magical imagination is leading us. I have read and own every e-book this author has written and never, ever have I given less than 5 stars to anything she has released.
Ms. Parker has an anointed gift and has increased it tenfold. I love the fact that she does standalones - this is the 3rd one in a row. But even when she writes a series, which I am not too fond of, she never leaves us hanging for long periods between follow-ups. That, to me, denotes major respect for her fans and we return the love by purchasing all of her books. I love the way she developed the relationship between Camden Davis and Demi Logan, despite their entanglements with their significant others. The love took precedence over lust and the storyline flowed together like a perfect puzzle. The build-up to a beautiful epilogue and everything in between deserves more than a measly 5 star rating.
As always, Chenell puts her foot into a magnificent storyline. I would have paid double the asking price for the privilege of reading this superbly written tale. Thank you Ms. Parker for the supreme enjoyment you provided this time around and can hardly wait to see what you have in store for us in the, hopefully, very near future!
Definitely heard it all before....but this was good!!!
This was another life educative story and MS. Parker didn't disappoint. Camden was a wonderful man. A survivor, intelligent, alpha in his own rights but also loyal and hardworking. A little bit too laid back and I though he was going to show out but he preferred to speak and boy did his word and actions bite more than if he were fighting. Demi was doing her thing. Intelligent, beautiful, a heart of gold, loyal and on the straight and narrow, she didn't want to ever be in anything illegal as she witnessed personally what it can do to someone or a family so took the other way out and she made it all the way to the top. Camden and Demi were both struggling with their own past lessons and making sure that the past will not repeat itself and met each other while they were making sure of that very same thing. MS. Parker, in this story is showing us how you may not come from a traditional upbringing, but when you do good, or look into doing good, you will get back ten folds. This was about relationships, promises, the foundation of marriages and all that is entitled. Kamari, man, should get the most of everything; he is really getting off too easy. Asha, in her case, Karma really came back for her, as well as Laila, and Savoy... Definitely one to grab and see if you have heard it all before as well!!!
It's crazy how connected Cam and Demi were and didn't know it. I love the friendship that they built first but doing the relationship thing. I'm glad that he learns that his absentee father wasn't so absent after all because he took care of Cam from beyond the grave. Also glad that he was able to forgive and accept his father's side of the family. Demi and her sisters were close and didn't take no ish. Kamari jeopardize and loses his good thing and don't know how to deal. He finds out the hard way how what's done in the dark will come to light. Asha is a selfish twit, who actually thought the world evolved around her. I was too tickled how Cam played her when she left him. She's so ungrateful, so not mad at how things went for her. Fast or not, Cam and Demi is opened and honest with each other from the jump, creating a forever love, family, and relationship.
This is my second time reading this book and it was even better than before. I read it over a year ago and I couldn’t remember who wrote it. I started going through old books that I read by this author and I could have jumped for joy! Karma is real and you definitely reap what you sow! Asha, Lo, and the ex wife got exactly what they deserved! Randy betrayed Cam in the worst way and had to learn a very hard lesson, but I hate that he ended his life. Kamari aka Lo didn’t deserve Demi! I get that he was used to getting it out of the mud and grinding, but he didn’t care about Demi’s safety nor her career. All she wanted to do was make him a better man. Some people just can’t be helped. I hated Asha and I hated that her and Cam’s son died, but her stubbornness and unwillingness to listen and take heed of her doctors warning killed that baby. Even til the end, she still wasn’t remorseful for anything she had done or caused.
Being transparent, when I first started this book (The prologue) , I was not convinced I was going to like it. Once I started into the chapters, that thought quickly faded and became nonexistent as the book progressed. I really enjoyed this read. I think most readers will love how the relationship between Cam and Demi began as a friendship since they were both in relationships and developed over time. The antagonists, Asha, Kamari, and Savoy, were all a piece of work. Just when you thought they couldn’t do anything worse than what they have already done, the author found a way to surprise you. I also admired the author touching on Cam struggling with being biracial and having an absentee parent. I’ve read other work from this author before, and she continues to meet the standards that her readers have of her giving us a 5 star read.
This was a very good read . Camden was a drug dealer going back and forth to jail but after his last time being in there he decide that he was through with that life and wanted to be legit , but his money hungry girlfriend Asha wasn't having that, she wanted him to keep selling drugs to get that fast money, even if it meant sleeping with Camden best friend to keep the money flowing. Demi Logan is a lawyer trying to get her husband Kamari ( Lo) to stop selling drugs and get a real job. Little do she know Lo has a secret life that Demi has no idea about!
Follow Cam , Demi, Asha, Courtney and Kamari on a journey of Lies, Friendship, Betrayal, Death, & Love
Ok seriously I have to be real if this were a real couple (Demi and Lo) I would have to wonder why they even got married to begin with? I mean seriously! Demi was cheating on her husband before the robbery ever took place. She was having dates with another man. Both Demi and Lo were wrong. in no way would I condone putting your hands on a female or man but she was wanted to call it quits to easy. I mean we’re talking about a marriage for Christ sakes. Cam, he was handed a good life style no matter how u try to portray his character. Personally I didn’t like the couple. I guess you can’t like them all and that’s okay. I will still read more of this authors work. Overall it was a good read. I just didn’t like the couple.
Having hoodrat tendencies and acting on them will have burnt and blocked. So much goes on in this book that if mention it could gives parts away. Let's just say that Cam is stubborn but what he is not is a fool, for anyone. No matter how things seem to go he did always find himself in the mix of his own drama, and being in a crazy relationship makes his life hell. While very professional Demi life has its troubles too. She got stuff going on around her she has no clue about, but when it all hits the fan, Issa wrap. I love how the main characters met, I mean just an act of kindness flourishes into something so beautiful.
This is my first time reading a book by this author. I was hooked from the very beginning all the way through the end. This storyline had a lot of plots, twist and turns. There is so many emotions to feel with the characters. Some you hated, loved, got mad with, laughed and was happy. It is sad when a person will use you, have an obsession with you and will go to any lengths to wreck havoc in your life. Sometimes when you dig a hole for someone else you are the one who winds of falling in that hole. I recommend this book to read and it also makes for a good book discussion. I look forward to reading more of this author's book's. Cassandra H
This was so good!!! I absolutely loved Cam and Demi’s relationship. Asha didn’t deserve him and I loved how she walked out before he could share his good news with her then tried to come crawling back. Randy really wasn’t about that life he was dumb and let Asha lead him the wrong way. It was time that Asha got a taste of that bad biih named KARMA. Kamari was stupid he lost his wife and his freedom. Step mommy was evil af and she really got a slap on the wrist. I’m so glad Cam was able to eventually forgive his father build a relationship with his grandparents get rid of Asha and live happily ever after with Demi 😍‼️ Awesome job 👏🏾👏🏾
Where do I begin???? Asha was grimey and deserved the ending that she got. All Kamari had to do was straighten up his life but the streets had a hold on him. I feel sorry for Randy but that is what jealousy does to you. I hate what happened to him but he was not built for that life. Now on to Cam and Demi. I am glad they found each other through the storms they going through. I am glad Cam forgave his father even though it was little too late. Thank you for the great read Chenell Parker. You are still in my top 5 of great authors!
There were a lot of life learning lessons in this book. Glad Cam saw the light about earning an honest living after his last jail stay. He could have gone back into the drug game but he didn't. It took a while to get to the point of forgiveness but he did it. Asha was just trifling and saw only $$$$ signs. Which turned out to be her down fall. It was a lot of drama in this book along with fake friends and backstabbing. The main lesson learned is "karma is a b#!?h!!!!
I'll continue to support this author BUT Demi and Cam are two of the most selfish characters that I've ever read about. Demi did Lo so wrong, yes they had issues but all could have been resolved. She ran to Cam and never looked back. She had no issues when Lo did what he did to put her through law school. Smh! Cam is super spoiled, his dad made life easy for him. Asha got what she deserved. Took me awhile to finish the end because I was so done with Cam and Demi.
This gang of New characters from this author had so much drama and I loved it. Cam and Asha were not compatible at all and all the dirt Asha did in this book finally caught up with her; Kamari and Demi relationship was based on lies and Demi was not staying after her life was in danger; Demi and Cam were great for each other but of course obstacles were thrown at them but in the end they were left standing strong and in love. Loved the character development and the plot of the story; there were some errors that were there but it didn’t take away from the book.
I found Chenell Parker during a dry reading spell. I finished two books by her in less than a week. I am so happy I did. This book was everything. There were a number of social issues at play. The characters were well-defined developed. I was rooting for Demi and her man. The bad got what was due them. I appreciated how she took her time and told a story. I love New Orleans. It was a perfect backdrop for the story. I'm excited for Ms. Parker. I look forward to great things from her. She has a fan in me. Bravo!
Camden was a force to be reckoned with, he lived da thug life selling drugs and in and out of jail, taken care of snake 🐍 gurl friend Asha, who end of sleeping with his best friend Randy getting him to sell drugs that he ended up killing himself, then Cam was product of affair, and his father left him his entire fortune, Asha broke up with Cam she felt real stupid because she assumed Cam was broke but far from it, Cam ended up meeting his true soul mate with marriage and kids 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I really enjoyed the entire book. Could not put it down! I liked how Demi and Camden's relationships were totally opposites. While she was encouraging her husband to leave the dope game, Asha was trying to convince to go back. It's funny how Lo loved Demi so much but he couldn't give up the game. She did right by moving on especially after her started using his hands. I felt bad for Randy but he did it to himself. Karma served Asha and Kamari a nice dish!
You reap what you sow. That was one hard lesson learned for Asha. She really did the most. I would have preferred a wake up call to change her life, but she was one tough cookie. A nice love story with lots of twists and turns made this book a page turner for me. Errors lost the 5 star rating it would have earned. Still, I'll read more by this author. Kudos for the stand alone!
Chenell Parker is on my list of authors that never disappoints me. I absolutely loved this story. Camden has been added to the book Bae list. I love reading books when the female character has her life together and that was Demi, even though she ran into a few bumps in the road. She kept her composure. It was about more than being a corner dope boy. It was about learning to forgive, karma for mistreating people, and a lot more good stuff. Great read!
I enjoyed this stand alone so much. Asha got exactly what she deserved and she is lucky to still be alive. Demi better give our man a little girl too. RIP Quincy, you damn dirty dog. I loved Demi and Cams relationship and thank God Alton was on point that day because there’s no telling where bae would be had he not been in line at the bank. As always Ms. Parker aims to please and comes through every time.
I liked the storyline, it was refreshing to read an urban fiction book where someone turns away from selling drugs and still ends up doing well for himself. This book had many grammatical errors such as missing words which was quite disappointing. It was nice having just the one book instead of a series which often seems drawn out. I will definitely be following this writer.
Well, what can I say other than this was an awesome read. Chenell always shows up and shows out that she doesn't miss a beat and her storyline gives me life. Cam and Demi were made for each other, and I love how their relationship started as friends turned into lovers. I don't feel bad for Asha, Quincy, or Kamari what so ever because they didn't do tight by people, so karma came back for them. Great read as always.
Ms. Parker I must say this was one of your Best pieces of work so far! I Love ❤️ how the book was so relatable to everyday life! How the characters are people We All either know or have heard of. I absolutely love ❤️ how the outcomes turned out all except Kamari but I guess you live by the Street you reap from the Street. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️read Diva!
I'm a little disappointed cause this is like another book this author wrote before just changed a little bit . I'm not trying to take away any thing from this author but she needs to give us something different . This story still kept me entertained through out love Demi and Cam together .
I swear greed is a nasty habit to have. Asha was out for self, she destroyed everybody's life in one way or another all for the love of the dollar. Cam was trying to better himself, Randy was a simpleton, Kamari was crazy and Demi was my girl. She was a sweetheart but don't underestimate her. At the end of the day, karma was served
