The Shadow has taken control, and Kingdom of Heaven's last hope has found himself trapped somewhere else entirely.
After falling victim of the evil lord Shadow's manipulations, college dropout turned reluctant gaming hero Iron Jack has been trapped in the much fabled but seldom visited lower levels of what was once his favorite video game.
In a dangerous world where the rules are different and nothing is as it seems, Iron Jack must look for a way back to the world he's sworn to protect and the people he's come to care about, including the hottest angel chick in any realm,
When he finds his old crew, the Avenging Angels there, he thinks he's got a leg up on the Shadow and his dastardly plans, but Iron Jack will soon find that things aren't as simple as he hoped, and even a world as complicated as Kingdom of Heaven has a dark underbelly.
Welcome to Hell, Iron Jack. Hope you survive the experience.
When New York Times Bestselling author, J. A. Cipriano was in second grade, his teacher gave everyone in class a journal to write down whatever they wanted. Their first subject was to write about something they didn’t like. J. A. chose to write about why he didn’t like writing. His reasoning was simple. He had bad handwriting. Even then, he was destined to be an engineer due to his messy scrawl.
Unfortunately, he found through the course of this little adventure that he actually liked writing. That year was sort of the high point for his writing career because he won a writing contest for the state. He got to go to a big dinner and his teacher was all dressed up.
He kept writing little stories, year after year, and in sixth grade, won another contest. In seventh grade, he broke his arm and got the cast signed by both Dean Koontz and Stan Lee. It is, by far, the coolest cast he’s owned. That was about the time he found video games and anime. His writing turned mostly toward fanfiction until about ninth grade when he wrote his first novel, a small book about twenty thousand words called Revelations. In sophomore year, he wrote two more books to complete the trilogy because he saw Star Wars that year and learned trilogies were the cool thing to do.
He rewrote Revelations during his senior year, and his wife swears it is the best thing he’s written. J.A. is not so sure. Every time he reads it, he cringes, but then again, he hates everything he writes, so there is that.
It was about that time, he got heavily involved in a fanfiction writing group, but that isn’t one hundred percent accurate. It was a world based on a popular anime but everything was created especially for this world. It made it so that every story someone wrote was unique.
Imagine writing a Star Wars novel set 1,000 years after A New Hope, where everything that happened was a distant memory and you get the idea. You have the force, some distant memories of the past, and that’s pretty much it.
He wrote about a million words (863K to be exact) for them before he decided to do his own thing. He wrote another novel. He put it in a drawer. He wrote another one that eventually became the basis for The Hatter is Mad. His next novel was Kill It With Magic, his first real novel. It’s not bad, but it’s bumpy. This is unfortunate because the books get loads better as the series progresses.
Since then, he’s written six more novels, four of which are in the Lillim Callina Series, and one in the Abby Banks series. The other is stuck in a drawer for time undetermined. He’s writing his next book now which is about werewolves fighting mummies in Ancient Egypt. After that, he will move onto Abby Banks 2. The Spy Within will come out in June or July.
J.A. also has three chinchillas. Two of them are grey, and because of this, they are named Slate and Cadmium. The third is named Jet because he’s black, and Jet is old English for black. See, creative. He also has a cat named Turtle. This does pose problems for his two-year-old from time to time.
Escape from Hell: A LITRPG Adventure Kingdom of Heaven, Book 2 By: J.A. Cipriano, Conner Kressley Narrated by: Jeff Hays, Soundbooth Theater This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. This continues the story and the team now has to battle out of this level. The problem is, Iron Jack is really feeling every bit of it. If they all don't make it out, they will have to restart and make new characters. Iron Jack can't, he would be stuck there. In hell. They meet new friends and enemies. There are very funny parts. Jack is listening to his team eat as he is battling and getting bruised. It reminds him how safe they are and how close to death he is. One comments on how out of breath he is after they make a long run, of course he is really running and they ask if he is on a cross track trainer or such. It is very clever. Lots of humor and silly things things thrown in to keep it fun! Loved all the fun characters. Felt I knew them all, they were so well crafted. The narrator was absolutely wonderful! From a sultry woman to a willy jackal, he had the voices down perfect!
I wasn't really sure I'd like this series since I don't play any RPG's but I liked book one so I decided to keep going and I'm glad I did. I'm impressed by how well the authors bring the world to life and make it believable that a person could be drawn into the world.
It's interesting to watch the character development in a book like this where it's real for some characters and a game for others.
It was interesting to see Jack re-united with his team and see how he interacted with them after everything he experienced in book one.
The story keeps growing on me and I'm looking forward to book 3 and seeing what happens next.
The narration is well done and I thought the character voices were believable and the delivery was dynamic and made me feel like I was part of the action.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
Why did I buy both books!? why god' why!?.. cof, cof.. let me present you a IRON Jack the most selfish ass in the galaxy, capable of killing a team mate in the off chance that he could get to see an angel woman he is in love after 3hs of meting her and getting berated, belittled and despised all the way until the last moment that his power of causing Stockholm syndrome make the angel give him a kiss, so now of course they are completely in love and they will marry and have kids... so of course he will save her... his character is to damn inconsistent he is an ass, a liar, they he switch to and heroic selfless soul, then into a murderous asshat... so in conclusion I don't care one bit about the guy, finishing the book was a chore, the adventure was ok, but each time his internal monologue started I wanted to hit my head on the wall..
Iron Jack is back in book two as he tries to escape from Hell. First he is a bit upset that he ended up in hell, but uses the time to actually think about really growing up and take stock to how he ended up there and how to get out. Then the real fun began as the action and choices jack must make come rolling in. I have to say a few scenes really made me laugh. Liked that he met new and old friends/frenemies/enemies in hell. Had to really wait until the end to find out who was who. My honest review is that it was well written, not too bogged down in RPG terms, and easy to follow the game aspects. The story was engaging and I read it in one sitting ad had to see how jack would get out of Hell and who would end up appearing around the corner.
Escape from Hell is the fast moving second part of the Skull Throne series. This fantasy game book is intense and full of action with a fair amount of humor thrown in as well. It's a bit of a cliffhanger ending. I'm looking forward to the next book!
Contains language and violence. I'd recommend it for teens and older.
Iron Jack is back. A new quest with danger and adventure everywhere. Luckily, Jack's partners are here in Hell with him to help. Having to escape from Hell to challenge the Shadow to regain the Skull Throne.
Can't wait to read what happens in the next book. Iron jack and the angels have won the battle in this book, and I hope they win the war against the shadow in the upcoming books. Great read!!
What to make of that...... Lets start with the pros: - overall story is interesting - good editing Negs: - way to long internal monologues of the mc - character development is improvable - some passages feel like the auther asked a horny teen for ideas and descriptions - there is not that much happening in the whole book
If you have not much to read for the moment it is quite OK, but imo far from a top pick.
