I had to read this book, I mean after all, it is book number three of a series that has intrigued me from the get go. I have been completely drawn to the character ‘WhatsIt’ since his arrival here on Earth. He is just the most amazing Alien I have ever encountered, and compliments of my imagination, and reading; I’ve met quite a few.

Honestly, and personally I feel that you as the reader need to read the other two books to follow along and understand, but I presume you could possibly get a grasp of a war between planets if you try and read this book as a standalone. So honestly, the choice is yours. I however, as someone who have read all three, feel they accompany one another nicely, and belong together, like family. But, you know what they say about opinions.

WhatsIt, Colonel Doug and Major Change have been teammates, working together to learn about Chrysalis, the planet that WhatsIt came from. The technology that had been gained through the ship the failed attack where they found WhatsIt was quite remarkable. The hard part was learning it, thankfully WhatsIt was there to help, once he eventually learned that this planet, our planet Earth was not as volatile as Chrysalis was, and that it wasn’t right to conquer it and destroy the entire planet and their species just for another to live.

On the other hand, General Harrier of Chrysalis now had his own problem, he didn’t care what it took, he wanted the Asiddians destroyed. He didn’t care what it took, but he needed to try, especially now that it seemed that Earth was a no-go. On top of it all, he was noticing that some of the Chrysallaman people had become collaborators now. He just couldn’t understand for the life of him, how his own kind, could turn against him, unless it was the only way they thought they could survive. But he would not stoop that low. Especially now that the Asiddians had the Chrysalis princess, he had a job to do.

Now, with General Tom Blunt, he decided to make it their mission to set out and destroy those who took over and destroyed Chrysalis in the first place, the Asiddians, and make an attempt at helping Chrysalis out, so that they can recover their own planet back. He was determined to gather together a team and form a new and better F.O.R.C.E. and work with the Chrysallaman Army, and teach the Asiddians, (who already knew of human existence.) just what war was all about.

With the Chrysallaman technology, and Earths technology, and some modified and remodified, they set out to make a difference. The battle will be long and hard, because existence will be proven, and lives and planets are at stake. A point is needed to be proven, but who will be the ones to survive and make a difference? Through a lot of struggling, and time, and much deliberation, and pain, as well as lesson’s learned, this book will teach you about friendship, and battles through interplanetary life.

A lesson can be learned here, if you read closely, and understand. Not just only the strong survive, but that together, uniting as one, and working together, will the strong survive. You cannot fight the battle alone, and don’t try to run away from it to another planet. Stay there, and fight for what is yours. Defend your property, and defend what is yours, and stand for you believe in.

I found this book, as with the other two, to be amazingly written. I enjoyed every minute of it. As soon as I received it, I rushed to read it excitedly. I was so glad that Mr. Miller had written yet another one of these books. Honestly, I love spending time with ‘WhatsIt!’ He is truly an enjoyble Alien, you gotta check him out!

This book is as always, a five-star read. I enjoyed every single minute of it. I will always be a fan of Mr. Miller. He just knows how to entertain his audiences. And I enjoy going through outer space with him.

So, the next time you want to read an out of this Word book, you know where to look!

A Worthy Conclusion to a Magnificent Trilogy
The final installment of Sam B. Miller’s inspired and brilliant F.O.R.C.E. trilogy, Evolution of F.O.R.C.E. is such a tremendously satisfying read that I was saddened to finish the series. As with the other two books, this novel is a filled with ingenious problem solving by characters of humor and dimension.
After defeating and uneasily reconciling with the Chrysallamen aliens, the humans and their new allies are confronting the specter of the advanced, hostile Assidians. Miller is a master of artfully connecting the shifting story lines of and perspectives of these three species as he ratchets up the tension throughout. Indeed, one of the finer qualities of Miller’s F.O.R.C.E. series is that the novels go beyond the inspired ingenuity of humans and Chrysallamens toward a deep desire to understand and empathize. That approach evolves from sound military strategy to a broader galactic philosophy.
As with the other novels, Miller makes this progression thrilling with devilishly clever ideas: my particular favorite is the use of FLIT technology to send Assidian battleships 100 light years off course to eliminate them as a military threat. Then there are the incessant counter offensives (many of them subversive) from the likes of Generals Dunnbull and Harrier: the one from the supercomputer that renames itself Vlad is a funhouse of trickery and subtle invasiveness. Populating all this activity are a cast of memorable characters, including Whatsit, a Chrysallaman of outlandish dress and urbane wit, and the burly, boisterous weapons expert McPherson. The banter between the theoretical physicist Heinbaum and his Chrysallaman counterpart GooYee is one of the novel’s many pleasures.
Indeed, Miller’s droll tone and sharp intellect deliver many smart, slightly loopy comments – simultaneously obtuse and strangely clear – like this line: “One of the primary qualifications was a psych evaluation describing each as an antisocial narcissist with an Oedipal complex.” Appropriate to such a novel, there is even an oddly charming interspecies romance which will yield surprising dividends.
Ultimately, it is the relentless problem-solving and overarching benevolence of the main characters that is so inspiring for a reader. As I have mentioned in previous comments about this series, I find myself deeply heartened by encountering such examples of patience, decency, and learning in era so fraught with impulsivity and immediate gratifications.
Some nice final twists tie together key elements from the novel and the entire series. I will miss this series that started with the leaders of earth having roughly 70 years (from the period 1947 to 2014) to catch up to the telepathy and military superiority of the invading Chrysallamans and concluded with those leaders still growing and learning. I look forward to discover what else Miller has up his sleeve since a writer whose characters are capable of such vision must be constantly gazing into the offing.

"Evolution of F.O.R.C.E.," the third installment in Sam B Miller II's "The Origin of F.O.R.C.E." series, is a high-stakes science fiction adventure that plunges readers into the heart of an interplanetary conflict. With its gripping narrative and complex characters, this book continues the thrilling saga with intensity and imagination.

The story is set on the Asiddian-conquered planet of Chrysalis, where Whatsit, an alien from Earth, leads a determined group of military strong arms in a desperate bid to save his home planet. Simultaneously, back on Earth, the highly advanced and well-trained militia known as F.O.R.C.E. stands ready to defend their world and assist in the liberation of Chrysalis, no matter the cost.

Miller deftly weaves a narrative filled with tension and urgency as time runs out for all species involved—Humans, Asiddians, and Chrysallamans. The desperation of leaders, the weariness of warriors, and the unyielding determination of heroes to secure victory and restore peace are vividly portrayed. Each character's struggle and resolve add depth to the story, making the stakes feel palpably high.

The novel's exploration of power dynamics and the thirst for victory is particularly compelling. As leaders grow increasingly bloodthirsty and power-hungry, the ethical and moral dilemmas faced by both sides become more pronounced. Miller's ability to capture these complexities adds a layer of sophistication to the narrative, elevating it beyond a simple tale of good versus evil.

The action sequences are expertly crafted, providing a thrilling ride through each assault, ambush, and battle. Yet, Miller also emphasizes that victory requires more than brute force. The emphasis on technological ingenuity and strategic patience highlights the importance of intellect and innovation in warfare, offering a nuanced perspective on what it takes to win in such a high-stakes conflict.

"Evolution of F.O.R.C.E." is a fast-paced, thought-provoking addition to the series that will captivate fans and newcomers alike. Sam B Miller II has created a rich, immersive world where the fight for survival and dominance takes center stage. This book is a must-read for anyone who enjoys science fiction with intricate plots, complex characters, and a relentless pace. Whether you're a long-time follower of the series or just discovering it, "Evolution of F.O.R.C.E." delivers a powerful punch, leaving you eager for the next chapter in this epic saga.

Evolution of F.O.R.C.E. serves as a fitting end to this great series, although I still hope that Miller will explore this universe some more. The book follows the rescue of stranded F.O.R.C.E. members from the ruins of Chrysalis and the Asiddian death hold, as well as the ensuing battle among Asiddians, humans, and the humans’ Chrysallaman allies. The story which follows has been filled with action, romance, friendship, technological advances, and an enemy which I certainly did not see coming.

Overall, Evolution of F.O.R.C.E. turned out to be every bit as engaging as its predecessors. The characters continue to grow in interesting ways, particularly the dynamic duo of Heinbaum and McPherson, and new glimpses into alien societies add intellectual curiosity to the mix. I’ve admired Miller’s dedication to research and details, and I’m glad that he continued this dedication in the final book of the trilogy. For the most part, he manages to present these details without losing sight of the plot and character development, something which is essential to good science fiction but is still hard to achieve.

I did have a few minor issues. The pacing of the book is very uneven. The first few chapters seem to drag because Miller wastes so much exposition and description on restating established facts about preexisting characters. The final chapter, on the other hand, wraps matters up far too quickly. A little more description could have added to the tension and avoided the excessive amount of dialogue spent catching readers up on a few developments that happened off-screen. With the narrative space being well-utilized between these sections, I was rather disappointed that the beginning is so slow and the ending so fast.

This book also has more proofreading errors than the first two books. I found many instances of missing or misused punctuation, missing words, and, most annoyingly, an inconsistency in how Princess Peregrine’s first name is spelled.

Regardless, this book captivated me from start until end. I had a hard time putting it down once I got past the recap, and I was anxious to see how Miller would end this new take on classic science fiction. I hope that he will return to this universe someday and show us how Whatsit, Tom and the rest of F.O.R.C.E. restore Earth and Chrysalis.
