When libraries are written on personalities, battles and outcomes of WW2, it’s a big task to provide a reasonably comprehensive, extremely short history. This does a nice job of giving the reader an introduction to WW2 in a book readable in under two hours. It will disappoint the enthusiast, but would be a great introduction for the high schooler or person looking to get a basic understanding of the lead up through post war issues. A good introduction.
Kindle Unlimited but most get on freebie days, but yes read all of these one way or another.

I was born toward the end of this terrible war in 1945. What a legacy to have to grow up with. Although I am a proud American and proud of the hard fighting men and women who lost their lives, but won freedom for so many against the prevailing evil, I am heart sick to think this could ever happen again. My father didn’t die in the war, but it ruined his life. He almost lost his leg in battle, but that horrible injury grows pale to what he experienced during the rest of his short life. The gut wrenching agony that he was left to contend with for the rest of his life was unbearable for him. As in all wars, it destroyed him psychologically. I pray to God that we never have to go through such a devastating time again. Thank you Captivating History for keeping this in the forefront of our mines!
I purchased this to help my Summer School students develop their understanding of the causes, major conflicts and stances taken by pro and anti-war factions. It is an unreal amount of information to fathom in a short time-frame. Thus, I rely upon it to set our course of study.
In this respect, it is a good study guide. I did find several points either mischaracterized, or covered so lightly as to be incredulous. But, that is why we study history culling from numerous sources.
If you are expecting a detailed explanation of the events that transpired during World War 2, you would do better looking elsewhere. If, however, you want a short 2-hour read summarising these events, you have come to the right place. It is a surprisingly easy read and presented without any bias to either of the sides involved in the conflict. Just the facts are presented.
This is a pretty good book! I think there should have been more information about the Holocaust because that was a huge part of the second world war but other than that, great book!
It's crazy to think how much of humanity was impacted by this war. I can only hope it never happens again. The book was very informative and it was actually captivating.
Overall a good book although getting all the names of towns and people is a task. Going back and forth from the war against Germany and the war with Japan was a great help but a little too much information
Reading this book and this series of books, makes me hungry for more. I don't 'remember' the war, but knowing more ties into family and friends who were there, and lived it.
Well written to cover the entire war on every front. A great introductory cliff notes. This by no means is comprehensive on details of battles but provides the foundation to expand on knowledge
An excellent book or as the title says, a guide. The book is written for those knowing a little but not a lot about the Second World War. It is an easy read. It is not a scholarly book on the war, but it does endeavor giving the reader the big picture of what led to the war and it does an exceptional job outlining the major battles in the European and Pacific Theaters.
Missing emphasis on lot of important landmarks be it Normandy etc. Otherwise a great book for a novice who is wanting to know at the macro level the nadir of modern human civilization
