Confined to a hospital with a rare chromosomal disorder, my little brother began sending me on scavenger hunts to uncover the world for him when we were kids.

When one of his quests brings me to a greasy Connecticut diner, my life is completely altered. Caitlyn, the gorgeous prince-slaying waitress, turns down my indecent proposal and ignites my need to conquer her at all costs.

With a reputation for being a ruthless billionaire womanizer, I can’t fault her assumptions. But now I’m on my own quest... to tame my unbridled passions long enough to get this little waitress, artist, and humanitarian into my bed.

As I lay bare my soul to capture her heart, I wonder...am I bringing the world to my brother or is he giving life to me?

*** This is a Full-Length STANDALONE billionaire romance novel with an HEA and NO CLIFFHANGER. ***

3.5-4 ★'s

I've had this book (and others by Alice Ward) recommended to me so many times its not even funny. And I was interested, put in on my list and forgot about it. Well, you know...not really forgot about it but there's just too many other books that keep coming out that it just kept getting further and further down the list. Luckily, I had a lull in new releases and picked one from the bottom.

KP is a huge jerk, first and foremost, but there is a huge heart there, you just have to wait for it. The title of the book relates to a scavenger hunt his younger brother sends him on and that's how he meets Caitlyn.

One of Caitlyn's jobs is as a waitress at a little diner in town, one that the extremely rich and snooty KP would never normally visit. But he does and its so cringe worthy...he is sooo uncomfortable that it's sort of funny.

Caitlyn is extremely offended and lets him know it and he is hooked! He just doesn't know what to do with these feelings so he tries to go on with life like normal but life just doesn't let him.

description

He tracks down more about Caitlyn and tries to buy some of her paintings but she won't have it. When he finds out she teaches art to some children, he donates to the center and that gets her attention.

She's looking for the genuine KP and she loves when she sees that in him and there's no better place than when he's with his brother.

They both have had some pretty harsh childhoods...let me rephrase, Caitlyn's childhood was horrific, I just can't imagine. However, KP did have some legitimate issues and I loved how he took care of his brother.

It was intriguing seeing these two seemingly different people come together and figure things out, reading about them falling in love and being there for each other on their darkest days.

The story wrapped up well...I just loved how they made everything work. I'll definitely be checking out more books by Alice Ward.

So I really enjoyed The Cabin by this same author. The hero was wonderful and an all around good guy...which is why this book is such a disappointment.

I do plan to give this author another chance because I truly loved The Cabin. I'm hoping this is a one off.

The Hunt by Alice Ward.
Standalone.
The easiest 5 stars of my life!!!

Oh. My. God. What was this book? I must admit that I am beginning to get bored with this erotica/romance stories because they are always the same storyline, blah blah blah. But, WOW, how Alice gave this thought a nice slap.
This book was amazing!!!! My God, I cried like a baby and laughed even more. This book was totally different than anything I've read before.

Caitlyn and KP are struggling with so much, both with issues with their loved ones and how they can't do anything to change what is happing. The feeling of loss is really touching in this book and made me think about how important some people are to us and we only acknowledge that when something bad happens or when they're on their way to pass.
I loved how they found support and peace in each other and how their love was growing during the book and not this "love at first sight" kind a book.

My God. I loved this book so much. Their losses almost break me too. I could feel everything and I couldn't put this book down as soon as I started. I loved the epilogue and how Wenton made their lives even better with the hunt.

Alice Ward, you did it again! Really, this time, I bow to you. This book is so much more than just a hot guy on the cover. Thank you so much for writing this!!

Warning, have the tissues ready! There will be tears. Billionaire romances are so popular right now but I think this was so much more than just another billionaire romance.

This the first book that I have read by this author and it definitely will not be the last. The Hunt had me on an emotional roller coaster but I loved it. Yes, there were definitely some difficult scenes but it was an honest snapshot of life, love and loss. KP is an arrogant billionaire with a soft side that very few people have ever seen and when it comes out he absolutely melts your heart. Caitlyn, on the other hand is just an ordinary woman looking to help others and live her own life quietly on her terms. Even if that means putting said arrogant billionaire in his place.
Overall a great story that I just couldn't put down.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Tears, smiles and cheers. This story had it all. Two people find each other when they needed someone the most. Even though they come from different sides of the tracks, their lives interconnect and kind of mirrors each other. KP is a spoiled rich guy with hidden depths. To the outside, he is a arrogant, mean, insensitive and spoiled. The only people he let in was his best friend Lucas and his brother Wenton. Wenton is confined to a mental health facility. He has a deadly disease. The love between these brothers will melt even the coldest heart. The entire life together has been a big scavenger hunt. Wenton sends KP all over the world to find the things he want to see. KP snaps pictures and send them to Wenton. The last thing Wenton has on his list is for KP to fall in love. When KP meets Caitlyn, on one of the adventures Wenton sends him on. When he meets Caitlyn, falling in love is not his first thought. He just wants to get her in bed. Caitlyn has her own problems. Her beloved grandmother is dying and she is in denial. Grandma Eula is the best. She keeps Caitlyn moving and enjoying life. Both Wenton and Grandma Eula give show both characters how to love and have fun.
The relationship starts off rocky due to many blunders by KP. It was fun to watch him try to adapt from a snobby elitist to the common man. This was a great story that will have you smiling, crying and cheering.

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This was a really good book and i learned quite a bit about Williams Syndrome as i ended up having to google it as one character had me interested .

You will certainly need your tissues with this one as two sad events occur, but the whole book is so gripping that i could hardly put the book down, only finishing it at 2am.

Both characters grow and learn about trust, hurt and letting go along with how having the right person beside them can make the bad times that little bit better.

I have not read a book like it and it makes a refreshing change in the rich man, poorer girl, older man, younger woman trope.

I would certainly recommend this book.

I loved The Hunt and I don't usually read Contemporary Romance stories. They are just not my cup of tea. But the Hunt is beautifully written. Well developed Characters, believable H/H and the secondary characters were also very well written. The Author did an amazing job with there back stories and the storyline development. Some of the story is a sad but shows how love with the right person can help you overcome any lost. KP and Caitlyn were Soul Mates. The story moves fast. I hate stupid Angst and there was None in this story. The couple worked out there problems intellectually with maturity. Both H/H and secondary characters are very likeable. I just loved The Hunt. I hope I can find more CR like this.

The Hunt was Excellent

The Hunt was a 5 plus stars book. Really outstanding. Pulled the heartstrings, had great characters. It was so powerful. Unfortunately, the second book was a 2 many be 3 star at best. The lead give was the most shellfish, stupid, bipolar, crazy chick ever. From the start I could never get what he could see in her to have this love at first sight thing. She was constantly insecure, pulling away and every sentence was her screeching. I mean what's up with that. Screeching is something those b word this do. It is in no way attractive. And then to shut out her best friend and him because she was an idiot. Not being willing to hear anyone's side of the story and going so far as to change her number and not open any letters or packages. Wow, what a beyatch! Jace and Becca both deserved better than her. Then giving away Sean's ring after she knew he was working in a pizza joint. WTH? That's just messed up. The polite thing to do is give the poor guy back the ring he probably couldn't afford and she sure didn't deserve. Yeah I just hated that character. She I loved the girl from The Hunt. She was strong and normal. That last chick was cuckoo and awful.

Why does this have 5 stars?

I read Alice Ward’s The Surprise and was expecting a nice-feel good-engaging romance. Instead, I got this bore of a book. The secondary characters of Wenton and Eula were the only endearing people in the story and Ma’s character was on-point. Lucas was okay but we never really got a chance to enjoy that friendship dynamic. Don’t even get my started on Rachel...funny how that character is more developed that some of the H/h’s best friends! Anyway, way too many crying females (including the assistant). I honestly found myself questioning the maturity of the characters in the book.

I like that the medical and health conditions were given time to shine and the book personally brought them to my attention while also educating me. Those were the only positives for me, besides the characters of Wenton, Eula, Robert the driver and Eula’s nurse Athena, the scavenger hunt photos, and the goodluck/goodbye mural by Caitlyn’s friends. The dinner and Ma were described very well and I could actually picture them while reading.

KP needs to buy a clue as what is appropriate when speaking in public and Caitlyn needs to understand that compromise doesn’t mean always getting your way. She’s hot one minute that all self righteous the next (for example, the car 🙄). They were both so immature in some of their thought processes and actions. 😔This book didn’t get me excited, I was able to go days without picking up my Kindle. I had to do a double-check to find out if the book was Ms. Ward’s first because I couldn’t fathom what else besides inexperience would make the book so bad and unremarkable. After reaching a little over 50% of the book, I found myself frequently checking to see how many chapters were left and how many pages were left in each chapter. I actually sighed with relief when I reached the end. For me, I believe I’m done with Alice Ward.

Raw and real, poignant and moving, The Hunt is a story of the nuances of life and love. KP is a successful, driven, harsh movie producer who never lets himself feel anything, especially when it comes to women. For as long as he can remember, the one person who matters in his life, his special needs brother Wenton, has been sending him on scavenger hunts, with a photo sent to Wenton’s phone to prove KP completed it. When the hunt takes KP to a tiny, greasy spoon diner, he meets Caitlin, a waitress completely unimpressed with his money, fame and status, who somehow manages to work her way into his mind and under his skin. No matter how hard he tries, albeit awkwardly, Caitlin won’t give him the time of day. But KP has earned every bit of his reputation for being ruthless and unyielding, and he’s not about to give up on Caitlin.

Ms. Ward never fails to deliver, and the advance copy I read of this book is no exception, with the author elevating her craft to the next level. This masterfully created story it is a feast for the heart and balm for the soul, and the characters are so deep, vivid and multilayered that they will all be remembered long after they’re gone. It’s the main characters who are supposed to win the reader’s heart, and KP and Caitlin were both unique and amazing, but it’s Caitlin’s Gran and KP’s brother Wenton who enchanted, captivated and found their own special place in my heart.

As she often does, Ms. Ward illuminates a segment of society in need – this time mental illness. She always manages to handle any societal issues with beauty, care and dignity, spurring the reader to open her mind and heart and then wanting to find a way to make some small difference in her own world. This book is so special and so beautifully written, and your life will be enriched having read it. Your heart will soar even as you find yourself wanting to sob, but The Hunt will remind you of the importance of those little things in life and demonstrate that the purest of love can be found in surprising places. With touches of humor and infused with passion, this riveting, enchanting story is one I’ll return to again when my faith in humanity needs a boost or I need a reminder of the things that really matter in life, and it’s one you won’t want to miss!

Caitlyn is a struggling artist that still lives with her grandmother and moonlights as a waitress at a crappy diner at night. One evening, a handsome but arrogantly rude man named KP comes into the diner, insults her, then proceeds to proposition her. Being understandably turned off, she rejects him, which only intrigues KP more. Caitlyn clearly isn’t interested in the promiscuous affair KP is offering, so he decides to become a better person and do everything he can to catch her.

This book could’ve been really good. The relationship between Caitlyn and her grandmother and KP and his brother were deep and affectionate. Unfortunately, I didn’t really get the emotions expressed between KP and Cat. KP literally began stalking her, but why? She was beautiful, a challenge, fine. But I got no sense of connection between them. The formation of their relationship felt like Cat was trying to force herself to like KP and KP trying to force himself to want more than to just sleep with her. Why would they even bother? I just don’t get it.

The story is emotional and heartbreaking at times. And it would stand out as a truly beautiful story of family and love… if only I didn’t have to read about the Hero having sex with another woman not the heroine. I get that KP was a manwhore, but I didn’t need it shoved down my throat. If the author must include a sex scene like that, at least don’t make it four pages long and contain much more description than any love scene between the H/h. It’s perfectly ok to fade to black. And the fact that KP still considered Rachel better at sex, but oh, he was in love with Cat so he was willing to have a more “vanilla” sexlife doesn’t set their relationship up for success. I am convinced if those characters were real people, I would be counting the days until KP broke and cheated on Cat because he wasn’t totally satisfied. That’s not love. That’s settling.

Don't be fooled by this cover. It's a great cover - but it looks like the story inside will be more fluff than substance. This story, Caitlyn & KP's story, is full of heart, humor, and emotions that will have tears streaming down your face and hysterical laughter bursting forth. It's very emotional, and deals with loss in such a sweet and heartfelt way!!

There IS a part in the beginning that I feel is completely unnecessary & is a big "NO" for me in stories - there is a brief descriptive scene of KP with another woman. It is after he first meets Caitlyn, and I'm sure was included to show that his mind & heart are already turning towards her. He doesn't really enjoy this interlude w/ the other woman - it's more like his body is on autopilot because that's how he's always done things. I get it, but the scene was still more descriptive than it needed to be IMO, and it almost turned me off from the rest of the story.

I mention it, because I know others are like me in disliking that kind of thing. I mention it in order to tell you that if you can skip that part, or push through, this story is WORTH it. It's worth reading. It will move you, and you will fall in love with KP, just as Caitlyn does. And, you will most likely fall in love w/ all the other wonderful characters throughout the book, as well.

I fell in love with KP & Caitlyn & their story, and loved the message of healing, love and acceptance. And also the banter & silliness that these two make work as well. : )

This book was a bonus included in Cabin by this same author. I wasn't sure if I would like it, as it started off a little slow, but boy am I happy I kept reading.

KP started out a cold hearted billionaire in the motion picture industry. Like all people who are mean and nasty for no good reason, there was an underlying story.

Caitlyn was a hard working young lady whose life started out horribly, but she ended up thriving as a result of lots and lots of love from her Gram.

The two meet when KP is sent on a scavenger hunt to eat at a greasy diner. This was hilarious because KP was the epitome of a rich, spoiled brat with a "the world exists to please me" attitude. He was sorely mistaken when he tried to use his "charm" to get the beautiful waitress in the diner, Caitlyn, to sleep with him. I found him crass and a bit insane to think a complete stranger would just drop her drawers and let him have his way, just because he asked. Really?

Once the story developed, it was determined that was just a simple day in KP's life. Women threw themselves at the rich man for personal gain. Once he was denied a few times, he started thinking differently. He was challenged to get to know the feisty woman and it changed his life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the life lessons that crept out of the pages. They were subtle, yet impactful. Kudos to this author.

The Hunt is the first book I have read by Alice Ward and I have to say the cover made me expect something completely different to what I got. I was expecting the usual billionaire romance novel with the obligatory sex scenes thrown in. What I got was a touching, heartfelt story that I spent most of my time in tears reading.

The scenes between Caitlyn & her gran were so beautifully written. The love & affection between them so obvious. But it wasn't all doom & gloom though Gran had the knack of saying just the right thing that had me laughing through the tears. When Caitlyn meets KP she thinks he's just your typical rich guy who thinks his money can buy him whatever he wants but this is the impression he presents to the world. Its only when she sees him with his disabled brother Kenton that she sees the true KP. KP is there for her when she loses her gran & she returns the favour and supports him when Kenton loses his fight for life. There are some hot scenes between Caitlyn and KP but I loved the fact that they didn't jump straight into bed. Their relationship gradually develops which makes it all the more believable. With a strong cast of secondary characters this was a book I had no problem reading in one go.

K.P the arrogant arse womanizer, film maker and Caitlyn the poor in wealth but rich in life waitress are an unlikely pair. But K.P makes his decision after one visit to the dirty dinner she is his conquest, by whatever means necessary- What starts out as obsessive, borderline creepy turns into something they both didn't know they needed.
The storyline is a sweet grief stricken one that had me in tears on several occasions throughout, also full of frustrations, turning over new leafs and overcoming the demons of the past.
I loved the emotional wreckage of their behaviors, I liked the fact it was a slow burn relationship, I had some parts where I was confused, and I felt like maybe I was missing something. ( this all could just be me) but other parts I felt were supremely detailed and left me with no questions and happily moving onto the next!
For all the confusion, This turbulent mixture of love, life, past and present is one I did not see coming when I started this book kept me reading til the very end!
A thought provoking read from Alice Ward!

The Hunt is a story of life and love, heart and humor. Caitlyn & KP's story will have you full of emotions; will have you rooting for this couple. At first, KP and Caitlyn didn’t get off to a good start but as the story progresses, we get background on both main characters and see what makes them tick. KP is told to not let his money do the talking with Caitlyn since he tried to at first and he instead took his money and donated it to a good cause that Caitlyn is invested in with her time. This shows Caitlyn that he isn’t the coldhearted playboy and may actually have a heart and starts to give him a chance. I also loved the cast of supporting characters who helped these two find true love together.

Get ready to shed some tears or a lot of tears because this one will definitely make you do that. KP and Caitlyn didn't start on the right foot. He was a billionioare producer and she was a waitress and an art teacher. The first time they met, he ended up insulting her that prompted for Caitlyn to instantly hate him. It was a cat and mouse game that they were playing but ended up trying to have a relationship together. KP was there for Caitlyn in her time of need and vice versa.

Everything that you want to feel was all put into this book and did not disappoint what so ever. And her Gran was right : "See, isn't it all for fun?."

The Hunt Alice Ball a heart-warming five-star read that is worth hunting down. I have read a couple of Alice Balls book and enjoyed them, but this one was by far my favourite. It really wasn’t what I was expecting, it turned into so much more. I have read this book in a morning, I made myself late to work as I had to finish it before I left. I also had to put some make up on as I looked a fright. I had laughed and cried so much with this book, but I felt amazing after reading it, uplifted and emotionally wrung out, but happy. I can’t do this book justice in a review, it’s worth so much more than the words I can put on paper. You need to read this amazing story.

KP & Caitlyn were dealing with the same type of emotional family issues. They kept the walls up and never allowed anyone close enough to get to know them. Until they found each other.

When KP love for his ill brother sent him on scavenger hunts to see the world through his brothers eyes.

During one of his hunts he finds a beautiful woman he wants beneath him name Caitlyn but she turns him down completely, which KP doesn't know what to do with it cause he is always use to getting his way. KP hires her and now is on his own hunt as he begins to understand his brother has brought life to him by living and completing his hunts. HEA great book.

I’ll admit I own a lot of this Authors books and I’m happy to say I really enjoyed it. It was packed with a lot of emotions but watching a jerk play boy transformation to an amazing prince was a journey on its on. Caitlyn was really down to earth and I found my self able to really connect with her when it came to her grandmother. The secondary characters were awesome and I plan to read more books from this author in the future. I may have waited a long time to finally dive in, but I’m excited to read some of her other books. 4 Stars #2OCCJD

The Hunt is over and THIS book wins!!
I received an ARC of this book for an honeat review but fell so in love with it I purchased it as well.

This is a beautiful and moving story of love in all its forms. Romantic love, family love, love of friends, it goes on. This well written journey focuses on Caitlyn and KP but the supporting characters also play pretty big, defining roles.

Caitlyn was an aspiring art student with serious talent who worked days at a center for children and nights at a diner in support of her grandmother and her dreams of art school. Due to trauma from her youth she doesnt trust easily, especially men. KP was a movie exec bigwig with more money than most banks. As such he had become jaded, sort of, and rather believed anything or anyone he wanted was his for the taking. Caitlyn disabused him of that notion very quickly, sparking his interest. He initiates a tentative sort of wooing after getting turned down flat, twice. The ensuing antics KP comes up with had me in stitches. As did his funny sassiness, when his guard was down. I actually laughed at a lot of the protagonists interactions, they were quite amusing!

The story isnt all humour, though, as tragedy strikes for both Cait and KP. There are some sensitive themes, like mental illness, chromosomal disorders, depression, death, that the author handled with grace, skill, and respect. I admired that because I honestly dont find it often when even one of those issues are included in a book. Kudos to Ms. Ward for her unparalleled sensitivity.

This book will make you feel right along with the characters. I actually cried while reading, that is how well this story is written. You will rise when they rise and wreck when they wreck. I know the word poignant gets bandied about more than it ought to, but in this case its the perfect description. This IS a poignant love story. A love story not just between a couple, but between those who make you who you are, as well. In my opinion this poignant yet steamy tale is the new standard for love stories.

Obviously I loved the heck out of this book. The pace was excellent, and I read as fast as I could to see what would happen next. The humour was excellent, the backstories gut wrenching, the sex scenes scorched, and through it all love marched on and won. I will be rereading this, probably mant times. You really ought to try it, too. Its impossible to be disappointed by this book.

Caitlyn had a big dream of going to Parson’s and becoming a better painter. But that dream had to wait until she saved up enough and she needs more money for her and her grandmother Eula. She usually works late at a Ma’s diner in Connecticut and one night one customer walks in oozing of arrogance and money. He asks questions and proposes one night.... But he gets mouthful from her and he leaves $15,000 tip for her.
Ever since meeting Caitlyn in the diner, KP can’t seem to get her our of his mind. He wanted to see her again but he didn’t know how. He always gets what he wants and he never had to ask twice. So he starts to look up for her and decided to buy his way in...
Caitlyn couldn’t believe the amount of tip but she wasn’t persuaded easily. She hates all people like KP and she won’t bend her rules for him. His pursuit of her art work entices Caitlyn but she still couldn’t give up on her principal.
However, her funny, smart mouthed grandma was sick again and she is caught in the middle whether to pass the opportunity. Now she had to think about her grandmother as well. So she decided to be strong and take the opportunity and spend more time with her grandmother with the money she is getting from KP.
Not only Caitlyn is selling her art piece, KP is commissioning her to draw his brother’s portrait. KP has a brother with William syndrome who lives in a cottage within mental facility. Wenton brings another side of KP that Caitlyn hasn’t seen and she is slowly falling for him. Due to Wenton’s condition, he can’t travel outside of facility so they came up with scavenger hunt game for both. Wenton would tell what KP needed to hunt. Going to that diner was one of the hunt.
Now time is running out for Grandma and Wenton. Both will have to help each other to heal their wounds and learn to live in the moment.

It is beautiful story of friendship, sorrow, sadness, grief, adventure and finding love. Both had dark past and they both had to work together. I love the fact Caitlyn was strong and loving character. It took some time to love KP character but it worked out so well. All the characters were so lovable and deep love and care for each other. I love that KP and Caitlyn’s conversations were interesting and fun. I would recommend, for sure!!!!
