There are many things that Marina, lieutenant in the US Coast Guard, doesn’t know. Among them are exactly who, or what, she is.
Her whole life she hidden her abilities in water. Able to swim faster, dive deeper, and hold her breath for almost fifteen minutes at a time. The webbing on her hands and feet make her feel as if she was some sort of mermaid.
She doesn’t know how accurate that feeling is, until a mysterious and powerful woman comes calling, bringing the storm of the millennium to the Washington and Oregon coast.
Marina is faced with a choice. Either join this woman she is convinced is evil, or let hundreds of thousands of people in the Pacific Northeast die.

“Open Seas – Just Add Water (New Sentinals #4)” is well-narrated, but the story just never grabbed me, and I was glad when it ended.
MC Marina (Mara), who may or may not be a “fucking mermaid” 😂 meets MC Doctor Selena. There’s sort of a story and romance, but we’re presented with so many flashbacks (I don’t like extensive flashback stories!) of Mara’s fishy life over the years, that the story never really gained traction for me. The story also kept mentioning brief former encounters with other supernaturals; I suppose they were characters from other books in the grouping, intended to present a cohesive fictional universe….but I just found the references to be distracting and annoying.
Mara and Selena didn’t exude any chemistry for each other, and the convoluted plot about evil birth mother and when Mara wants to hide from the government vs. when she wants to talk with the police left me scratching my head.
Schubach is a terrific writer, but this one was a miss for me. I rate “Open Seas” 3* - meh, on the strength of the narration.
Okay, I think this one may be my favorite one so far in the sentinels series, I loved the storyline and the interaction between all the characters, I wonder who is going to show up next, and when will they all meet?
I enjoyed reading this book about Marina and the doctor. I can't wait to see what all the Lazarus stuff is about. Definitely a nice fun happy read to pick up your day.
Sensational Riveting Engrossing Fantastical With plenty of Intimate moments! Let's not forget humor Erik was right on with the humor in each and everyone of these novels! KUDOS ERICK KUDOS !!!
The fourth book in the New Sentinels series is just as strong as the others. Excellent characters and an exciting story that keeps you on your toes page after page. The characters are so engaging. Serious yet playful and captivating. Great read.
Onward to book 4! Another villain to the mix as the New Sentinels world continues. I like this story a bit better that the third installment. The relationship between the main characters coming a bit fast in my opinion. But as usual the cute banter is fun. The idea of a half merperson and half siren is made better by the fact she cant carry a tune in a paper sack. The most frustrating this is the open end but I ca see the treds starting to reach for the next story.
I am really enjoying this series. The characters are very likable and incredible. The story keeps me interested from page one until the end. Thanks for another winner.
A lot of the dialogue in this book feels like it was written by an older person who's trying to act like they're cool. I know it's an urban fantasy book series, but there's a lot of stuff in the series that can't really be explained by saying "that's just how this world is." Why are all of the characters with magic powers women?
Most of the books in this series have cool plots that make sense; but when every book has a different main character, and all of them are lesbian, the lesbian thing just feels like it was forced in there.

Thus far out of the series, I will admit that at the end I was like ... nah? but I nevertheless enjoyed it and liked the Marina finally accepted that she was indeed a mermaid :-). I'm intrigued about who Lazarus is and what they are doing? liked that the author is mentioning the other characters from the other books as this ties them all to this series and can't wait to get to the next book in this series.
4.4 star ratings Despite the limited f&f action, I must say i love the superpower theme, humour, concept and inclusion of the physically challenged( i wish more writing can be done including and encouraging the challenged just as we do more visibly with lgbtq).
