The perfect companion to Generation One and the #1 New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four series! Fan-favorite characters Six and Sam Goode return in this new saga, which is X-Files meets the X-Men.

In the aftermath of a thwarted alien invasion, teenagers across the globe have begun to develop incredible powers known as Legacies. While most are sent to the Human Garde Academy, countless others slip through the cracks—either by choice or by force.

The Legacy Chronicles companion series follows them on this mission, and this book collects the first three novellas. Originally published as digital originals, they are now together in one print volume for the first time ever.

In Legacy Chronicles #1: Out of the Ashes, Six and Sam’s first mission has them looking into a string of disappearances—but as they dig deeper, they stumble upon a treacherous Human Garde underworld.

In Legacy Chronicles #2: Into the Fire, Six, Sam, and their young allies infiltrate a new foe who is using powered teens for a deadly game.

In Legacy Chronicles #3: Up in Smoke, the couple is faced with dual threats after they’ve been split apart—and more than one life will hang in the balance.

These novellas were pretty terrible, in my opinion. I've read the entire original "Lorien Legacies" series, plus all of the novellas that are intertwined with that series. I get that this "Legacies Reborn" spin-off series and its novellas mostly follow new characters and have very few of the characters from the original series involved, but honestly, it was like a completely different author wrote these novellas. While the novellas in the original series provided well-written backstories of characters and helped connect timelines and events from different characters' perspectives, these novellas for this new series just randomly brought back two original characters, added a bunch of completely new characters, and had them go off on their own adventure that had absolutely nothing to do with the events of Generation One (first book in the "Legacies Reborn" spin-off series). There was almost no tie-in whatsoever, no connecting to events or anything like the purpose of the novellas in the original series. Plus, the original characters (Sam, Six, and Nine) were really terribly written -- after spending 7+ books in the original series developing those characters, the way they were written in this book was like the author had no idea who the characters were and what their personalities were actually supposed to be. Nine in particular was extremely disappointingly written. Another frustrating thing that happened repeatedly is that the characters rarely used their telekinesis defensively, even though it's well developed in the original series that the Garde use it this way all the time and were even actively trained to do so by their Cepans. To have even Sam, Six, and Nine rarely use their telekinesis in this way was frustrating, because a lot of plot events could have played out differently if they had (and a certain character wouldn't have needed to die if someone had used their telekinesis!). I plan to read the next book in the main "Legacies Reborn" series (Fugitive Six, sequel to Generation One), but I'll have to think long and hard about whether I want to read any of the upcoming novellas for this spin-off series, after how disappointing these three were. Honestly, it normally takes a lot for me to dislike a book; I'm an avid reader and almost always enjoy books, especially in genres I know I like. I hope that the rest of the series recovers!

i am a huge fan of the lorien legacies series, like really huge, i love those books with all my heart. but this feels like a meh. i loved following again sam & six’s adventures but i thought all along that there was something wrong, like sometimes the writing was really weird and not realistic and i didn’t get that feeling with the original series. the plot was ok i guess, but i had trouble to believe that a bunch of humans could cause them so much trouble, like you know after defeating a whole mog army. but anyway the new characters are cool and interesting and like i said it’s a lorien legacies book 🌟

This wasn't my favourite novella collection of the novels. This was the first novella that didn't really tie into the main series, but had a story completely its own. I also feel as though the characterization of my favourite character was uncanon somehow. Overall, it wasn't a bad story, and the plot was exceptional, but things didn't seem to completely fit into the universe.

This collection of novellas take place during and after GENERATION ONE novel which is the first book of the sequel series of the I AM NUMBER FOUR collection.

Spoilers below!!!

This was a story of Six and Sam and their adventure of helping a select organization search for kids with legacies.

Novella #1 OUT OF THE ASHES.
slow start but built up quick. Had old school vibs from the OG series which I loved. Six and Same are 2 of my favorite characters. Takes place during GENERATION ONE novel. Its about Six and Sam on the hunt for kids with legacies being taken by multiple groups. Figuring out who they are and why they are being taken. New characters are introduced, and ends when GENERATION 1 ends.

the 2nd novella in TRIAL BY FIRE. It was a continuation of OUT OF THE ASHES novella which is different than the original series set-up. Before, each novella was a stand alone, as now this might as well be just another book in the series.
It was an exciting second part. It is literally a story of ppl paying money to hunt game. Game = kids with legacies. It ended with a twist! They are trying to figure out how to medically transfer legacies to someone that don't have them.

The 3rd Novella, UP IN SMOKE, picks up with Six waking up and finding out she doesn't have her powers anymore. This was very fast paced. Lots of action. Nemo helps them get on a ship to rescue others an escape and then they are given them mission to go take out the head guy Bray and destroy everything. In the process they learn that not only are they being kept in the dark about the people they are working for and with but a surprise appearance of an agent from the past makes Six lose trust in everything except Sam and Nemo. They go off on their own to look for a lost friend, Ghost.

Based on how GENERATION ONE and this book ended, im very curious to see if they over lap. Or if they stay the course separately.

Reading this book feels like I'm back at home. Six and Sam are back, and Nine has more of a part than in the generation one series. I do wish it had John or Marina but beggars cant be choosers. To not spoil the entire book I'll stay vague but I'm glad that after not writing her for some time, Six's personality was still the same as ever in her amazing strong headed mistrusting. Although Sam's actions seemed a bit weird to be on a few occasions, I still loved this book and the premise. It feels all too real that in a world that suddenly has superpowered teens that there would be more than just the "Foundation" trying to abuse and make money off of everyone. A solid 4/5. It just can't be ranked the same as the OG series and feels a little rushed at times

These are basically all one book about the adventures of Six and Sam, tangentially related to the Legacies Reborn series. I feel like this didn't quite have a handle on our three mains, and completely forgot to develop the collection of new characters. Also, they hardly ever used their legacies! I read another reviewer who said it seemed like someone else wrote it, and that is completely it. It's like a Disney straight-to-VHS movie. You know Disney still made it, but no one looks right and the voices are all off. I was pretty disappointed.

Six and Sam are back in action! Fast, fun, and action packed. I highly recommend reading these companion novellas as they give a lot of background to the main series and add so much to the story.

They kind of jump the shark, literally and figuratively, in the last 50 pages or so, but I'm just happy to be back with these characters again.

Following their battles in the I Am Number Four series against the Mogadorians --- evil aliens who want to take over the Earth --- Six and Sam are back from their trip around the world to bring peace and justice once and for all.

The Mogadorians have been defeated, but adults are becoming more and more frightened and jealous of the ever growing number of children with legacies (special powers such as invisibility, teleportation, breathing underwater…). When Six and Sam are contacted by a mysterious man who needs help finding kidnapped children with healing powers, they reluctantly agree to help, but find themselves swept into something much larger and darker than they could ever have imagined. In their quest to save these children, Six and Sam must learn to trust no one.

THE LEGACY CHRONICLES: Trial by Fire has all the makings of a great action thriller including fighting, romance, a classic villain, bombs, airplane crash landings, agents going undercover, spy tech and much more. This book will leave you gripping the edge of your seat as you are drawn into the surprising plot twists. Pittacus Lore is a master storyteller. He adeptly brings to life characters with rich personalities who make the story seem more believable but also more exciting since you never know what they’re going to do next. One moment you’ll be left inspired by a their bravery and selflessness, the next you’ll be laughing at their sibling-like relationship or mourning their death.

Overall, Lore’s writing is some of the best I’ve come across in YA books. His detailed descriptions made the story seem so real that I wished I had a legacy so I could join in on the action or experience what it feels like to fly on a futuristic private jet. At the same time, his narrative was engaging enough that I never got bored.

For anyone looking for an adventure this summer, especially fans of THE DARKEST MINDS or X MEN, I highly recommend this book even if you haven’t read the I Am Number Four series (I hadn’t read it before I started this book and was able to follow). THE LEGACY CHRONICLES: Trial by Fire offers something for everyone --- superpowers and aliens for fantasy and sci-fi lovers as well as constant action, the mystery of the vanishing children and even romance, so fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride!

Review:

First, it has a stunning cover! ❤

This book is a bundle of 3 novellas. I know this a supposed to be a supplementary book, but it has a lot of content that should never be missed.

The characters are good! I like the introduction of the new characters and their abilities and would like to see if they will cross on the main series and how will they interact with Nigel and the others. I like Nemo’s wit and Rena’s ability. Nemo is like the mini-Six. I want to see her and Six fighting together in the next possible book future please. I find Rena’s ability unique. I hope she becomes a powerful character in the book!

Six and Sam are reintroduced in this book and I miss them! I miss the original gardes in general.

The plot is fast-paced. I cannot put the down the book. Every chapter is heart pounding. Maybe I just can’t stop from reading because this is one of my favorite series. EVER!

I’m giving it 4 stars because it’s good! I do hope there are other lorics out there reading this and share my fandom over this. ❤

Another interesting set of Novellas grouped together to form a Novel, this book includes, three novellas that follow the exploits of Sam and Six after they come back to the U.S. from their whirlwind trip around the world after the Mogadorian Invasion etc.

They start working for a man named McKenna, who promises Six that he isn't Government, though she doesn't trust him. And each novella brings them further into a dangerous group that's surfaced where a man, Dennings, lures runaway Kids with Legacies who don't want to report to the Government and thus get sent to the HGA (Human Garde Academy) to work with him. He forces them to fight each other with their Legacies and has many high rollers betting on the fights etc. He also has people hunting kids with Legacies as if they were Deer in the Woods, for Sport.

It's horrifying and sickening and Six and Sam are understandably outraged. They meet four runaway kids with Legacies, Ghost, Max, Rena and Nemo while following up on a lead given to them by Nine about a Healer that's gone missing, or has at least been targeted to be kidnapped, named Edwige. This follows up on the plot of the first Legacies Reborn series, Generation One, where Taylor Cook, a Healer at the HGA is kidnapped to help heal the very sick son of a very rich Sheikh.

It was an interesting bit of fun to see Sam, Six and Nine work together. I enjoyed a few of the new characters, though Nemo's basic duplication of Six's personality was a little, meh. Though it did seem like she and Nine hit it off, which I'd like to see him have someone he cares about. He's so powerful and gifted but doesn't seem to allow himself to get close to anyone, probably because of what happened in his past with that girl and the Mogadorians, who can blame him really. But overall, it was a fun, fast paced read, that connected the first Legacies Reborn Novel, Generation One, into this set of Novellas.

I'm interested to see where Fugitive Six leads us.

1-3 of The Legacy Chronicles. This book is made up of three novellas: Out of the Ashes, Into the Fire and Up in Smoke.

Too little too late, but I’ve only just realised that these six novellas should be read specifically between books in the Legacies Reborn series, but whoops oh well.

- Out of the Ashes: 3 ⭐️ As a big fan of this series, this novella kind of fell short. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy it and I love parallel storytelling across books in this universe/series, but it was just meh. I’m not a fan of Six and Sam’s romantic interactions, I find they’re quite cringe. Was this novella needed? Not really, I found before continuing that it’s not really added anything to the Lorien Legacies Reborn series storyline.

- Into the Fire: 2 ⭐️ I’m not sure why Six has been written to be weaker, dumb and helpless. She never would have fallen for such obvious traps in the Lorien Legacies series, so not sure why her character has changed - I’ve noticed this with a few others in this novella series too, do they not want to use legacies anymore?

- Up in Smoke: 2 ⭐️ Again, same issue with the other ones. Why have they made the characters so weak? Obviously due to xyz happening I get, but before that it’s like are these the same characters from the Lorien Legacies series. I feel the writer wrote them as all powerful beings and now he’s trying to bring it back to reality, making this sort of like a crime fighting story?

It had none of the elements I loved about the Lorien Legacies and Legacies Reborn series. Where’s the sci-fi gone? Where’s the power gone? Where have these strongly written characters gone?

Summary, this is just a very watered down version of the Legacies Reborn series. After such a strong main series, these 3 novella fell very short.

Just like with the Lorien Legacies parent series, so Lorien Legacies Reborn gets itself a series of ebook novella spinoffs, and just in time for the latest entry in the series, Fugitive Six, we finally get the first three novellas in this series bound up in print together for those of us, like me, who don't do ebooks. Man, I'm always super happy that Pittacus Lore can print-publish these stories in such a timely manner. *side eyes Cassie Clare for often taking a year or two to finally put out the Bane Chronicles or Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy compilations* And this little three-story collection does the job pretty well, focusing back on old faves Six and Sam (and a little bit of newcomer Nemo as well) while starting to bridge the gap between Generation One and Fugitive Six. I guess the Legacies Reborn and Legacy Chronicles series are going to be more or less strictly chronological, unlike how the original series' supplementary ebooks went all over the place in the timeline. It's a change I can appreciate from the Pittacus Lore team, though, taking on a bit of different style. Though I'm not happy that Six and Sam are relegated to third-person POV like everyone else in this second phase of the Lorienverse, again, their presence in these stories is a most welcome breath of fresh air. And it helps me get sufficiently super-pumped for Fugitive Six, which I finally picked up from the library today. I'll be sure to read it sometime in the next 2-3 weeks or so!

I never really enjoyed reading, but my middle school librarian recommended the book I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore. After finishing that book, I watched the movie and have been reading my way through the rest of the series. I have read all 7 of the Lorien Legacies’ novels and all 15 Lost Files novellas. I recently finished Generation One and Fugitive Six of the Lorien Legacies Reborn series and then jumped into the Legacy Chronicles: Trial by Fire, which has three Legacy Chronicles novellas including Out of the Ashes, Into the Fire and Up in Smoke

I am reviewing the book Legacy Chronicles Trial by Fire. This is a continuation of the stories in the previous books. After the invasion, teenagers started getting legacies, which are powers to help protect the earth. These teenagers were supposed to go to the Human Garde Academy to train, but some teenagers didn’t go or were captured. The main characters, Six and Sam, made it their mission to find out who was kidnaping the teenagers. What I liked about the book was that although the characters had powers, they were believable. Even though I knew the ending was coming, the action continued to the end and kept me involved. This book is suitable for all ages, but teens are more likely to enjoy it. I look forward to more books in this series.

In this amazing book you get to learn about Six and Sam!! So excited to read about characters from the original series and what they decided to do after the War. All Six wanted to do was travel the world and go to beaches but eventually they got pulled back into saving the day.. They went on a mission in the first story to try and see who was kidnapping healers. That mission went sideways and they met some new kids with legacies. In the second story they try to find the man behind the kidnappings of these children with the help of there new friends but the evil man makes them play a terrible game.. In the last story Sam and Six are sperated and Six has to find him plus a lot of other drama happens to finally find all these children that the evil man is hiding and to take him down as well. This was a really good book about Six and Sam! I can't wait to see what the next one is gonna be about!

I wanna cry. What was James Frey thinking when he decided to let Legacies Reborn be ghost written? Not only do I feel the parent story disrespected but the original characters as well. This novella collection alone made Six and Sam stupidly reckless, and Nine and Lexa impassive, cold and indifferent.

The rest of the writing just didn’t make sense like stuff happening without logical explanation (like Ghost supposedly feeling indebted to Dennings but stayed loyal to a crazy Bray) and without consistency (refer to my reading progress for Up in Smoke). It was as if the writer threw in meaningless dialogue and unnecessary action and just a very poor, poor development and expected the readers to be okay with it.

I just really wanna move on from this. Three more books to go. Gosh, I am so mad.

If the Lost Files series of novellas was a companion to the original Lorien Legacies series, then The Legacy Chronicles is shaping up to do the same for the Lorien Legacies Reborn series. The three novellas Trial by Fire were called Out of the Ashes, Into the Fire and Up in Smoke. They center on fan-favorite characters Six and Sam Goode as they help out human teenagers who have acquired Legacies of their own. Their travels take them all over the world, from New York and California, to New Orleans, Texas, Australia, The Philippines, Montana, Mexico and Argentina. This book was very exciting and fast-paced, and satisfied me until I can get the second book in the main Lorien Legacies Reborn, Fugitive Six, which was just recently released at the end of June.

I still really like Pittacus Lore because it really is feel good adventure most of the time. The good people usually win and usually get the guy/girl. There are losses on the way but on the whole karma tends to win out.

In this one Six and Sam are still together and are working to help and rescue humans with new legacies who are being kidnapped by some nasty humans who want to experiment on them, watch them fight each other and hunt them. Six and Sam end up working with Nine and Lexa again and mostly the good guys win and the bad guys learn a lesson or die.

It would be nice if real life was at all like this and it is still fun to escape into a world where this is true.

The book is basically about two original garde that go around the world to find garde who didn't want to go to the institute and try to figure out where to put them. They do this because there are also other people that are evil that are trying to recruit these child garde to do their dirty work. I think this book was really fun to read because it made me laugh a lot. There is a character named six that I was able to relate to and there are many things that she says that are funny. I believe that this book had no weaknesses, I would just say that maybe the author could have ended with a better cliff-hanger. I have read books by this author many times and usually the cliff-hanger at the end makes you wonder however this book didn't really have a good cliff-hanger.

This book is the collection of three parts of a story line that follows Sam and 6. There are a few of the original characters, and some from the Legacies Reborn story line, but they also introduce new people and a new plot. This story is entertaining, but I found the Legacies Reborn to be much more rich and involved. I would still recommend it if you want to hear more of the story, as this book takes place basically after the first series of books ends.

I liked this book and is part of one of my favourite series of all times, reading all 12 or so books integrated into the I am number 4 and spin off series. However, it was probaly one of my least favourite out of all the books, as said in other reviews it didn’t use the same powers as before and follow the story lines and didn’t connect as much. Characters also weren’t shown as their normal self.

I was kinda lost at first when I read it because there’s a lot of new characters (and i mean A LOT) but i was still good. I liked how they connected Sam and Six’s story and their side quest to the main series and it’s nostalgic to see the classic gang. There’s a change in how they write the two characters which is odd but it’s still a good read.

I borrowed this book from my local library. I enjoyed reading it. I have followed all the books by this author so far and look forward when a new book comes out by this author. This book is a novella of three stories by the author. It's too bad they didn't make more movies after they made I am number 4 (The first book by this author)

The Legacy Chronicles are spin-off stories from the "I Am Number 4" series of novels. In this case we get to find out what happened to Six and Sam, two of the main characters from the other books, when they take on a mission of their own. It lacks the excitement and drive of the other novels, but it's still essential reading for anyone who's read the rest. Not the place to start though.

Sam and Six discover the underground network of people using the new Human Garde for their own purposes. Some decent storyline with some dark and sinsister forces but a lot of side story that makes me wonder what is the point and how does this tie into the main series.
