I write novels that explore friendship, self-discovery and the challenges life brings us, leavened with a touch of humor. I'm proud of all my books and perhaps best known for my "Ten Beach Road" titles including the USA Today bestsellers, Ten Beach Road and The House on Mermaid Point, and for While We Were Watching Downton Abbey.

I was born in St.Petersburg, Florida and grew up on St. Pete Beach within spitting distance of the Gulf of Mexico. I went, appropriately enough, to Sunshine Elementary School where recess and art class sometimes took place on the beach, and the highlight of every school year was the annual fish broil.

It’s hard to be a type-A personality when you grow up in such a laid back environment, but I managed. Convinced that you were expected to know how to read BEFORE you showed up for school, I forced a neighbor friend to teach me to read at the age of five. I’ve been reading ever since.

Books, in all forms, are one of my greatest pleasures and best forms of escape. And they’ve had a major impact on my life.

I went to the University of Georgia after reading Gone with the Wind one too many times. For a while I re-read Margaret Mitchell’s classic yearly, saw the movie whenever it played within twenty miles, and could quote large passages from memory. Today I have a growing GWTW collection, and the time I spoke at he Margaret Mitchell House was an incredible thrill.last

After college I worked in radio, television, and film. Like Olivia in 7 DAYS AND SEVEN NIGHTS, I’ve done live talk radio. I hosted a show in the eighties called Desperate & Dateless, and while I was never locked in an apartment for a week with a webcam rolling as she was, I did fall in love. Happily, the man who swept me off my feet consults with financial types and understands the bottom line. Unlike Olivia’s nemesis, Matt Ransom, my husband has never, to my knowledge, advised anyone to ‘love the one they’re with.’ We live in Atlanta with our two sons.

4 Good Thing Stars🥂 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Loved the ”good things” toasts in this book... we all need a group of women in our lives that will toast the good things we have going on🥂

This is the perfect book to read when sitting at the beach or wishing that you were... featuring a cast of strong women who really were there for one another.... this is the fifth book in the series, however it can be read as a standalone... although I was not lost I probably would have appreciated some of the backstory on some of these characters... but that’s because these characters were so colorful I wanted to know them better....

There was a lot going on in this book but a couple storylines really stood out to me.... Nikki was probably the character I found most relatable, just trying to do it all, and not wanting to admit that she couldn’t... I completely got her, if somebody had suggested to me I needed help with my kids, I would have reacted the same exact way.... then we have the biggest mess of the book Kyra... that was a confounding situation, not sure why one woman much less two would want that Daniel.... I was rooting for Troy the entire time! Not only was he a great guy, but he also shares a name with my youngest son...

Loved how all the storylines in this book concluded, it was all very satisfying... I would also absolutely read the next book in this series, and I’d go back and read the previous books if I had the time.... this book left me with a smile on my face and craving the beach, cheese doodles, and egg soufflé...

Strongly recommend to people who enjoy a book filled with friendship, family, drama, and food....

*** thank you so much to the publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this fabulous book ***

I close Best Beach Ever by Wendy Wax with a sigh of satisfaction. I've had a few laugh out moments, wiped a tear away and generally loved being back with the women who form this strongly forged band of friendship.

So Maddie is still with rock star Will and finding her way in that relationship, and how will it affect her life at Mermaid Point and her beloved Kyra and Dustin.

Krya meanwhile is coping with being on the set of a movie with Dustin who as a four year old is playing the part of a son who is kidnapped. There is plenty of tension on the set, because of course the main stars and director are Dustin's loved Dad and his wife Tonja.  Alongside that Troy the cameraman (of old) has turned up in a whole new way.

Nikki is coping with twins, or rather not coping, plus she isn't happy about her weight gain and slow return of her body to its previous size. And... horror of horrors she has the perfect Nanny who could help all go smoothly, if only she could let her.

And as for Avery, she loves Chase but she is no way prepared to make a full commitment, and that makes Chase really disappointed and well... see what he gets up to.

Finally we have Bitsy, out to get her revenge on the husband who stole all her money and hived off with it and a girl friend. All I say is "Go Bitsy". Finally she is getting up off the ground and taking a look at her situation.

You might have guessed this is a series and Best Beach Ever is #6. I've really enjoyed all of them, these women have certainly had many a challenge and together they've made it through.

Enjoyable. Light. I wish Wax would do some research into how babies/children communicate because the inaccuracies in this area make me crazy. And the consistent use of subordinate clauses masquerading as complete sentences throws me for a loop. These are minor details, but they are irritating enough to make me cringe. Otherwise, I like the sisterhood; women supporting each other is so pleasant and something to which we should aspire.

Wendy Wax is back with the much-anticipated sixth installment of the Ten Beach Road series, BEST BEACH EVER. As a fan, I've been eagerly awaiting this book, especially after the cliffhanger of the last one —the mystery tenant who will be renting their beloved Bella Flora.

TOP BOOKS OF 2018!

Trust me, fans are going to love this one. The ladies have a lot going on, but together, they are unstoppable!

About...

After the loss of their Do Over, the renovation turned reality TV show ended, and Maddie, Nikki, Avery, Kyra, and Bitsy have moved into the cottages at the Sunshine Hotel Beach Club. Much smaller than Bella Flora, but they are still together and finding new ways to be creative amid all the drama.

Kyra is particularly astounded by the new tenant at Bella Flora, but they had to rent it out due to their financial situation. So much fun.

Each of the ladies is dealing with their own set of challenges, but one thing is for sure—they have each other and their enduring friendship to conquer all. Their strength and resilience, coupled with their unwavering bond, will leave you feeling inspired and empowered.

Maddie is dating rock star Will (Mermaid Point), and he wants her to go on the road with him for his tour. She wants to, but feels insecure, and she feels needed to help her daughter and grandson. She possesses much wisdom and is the glue that holds them all together.

Kyra is struggling with her ex-boyfriend, Daniel, and his wife, as they want Dustin, her four-year-old son, to be in one of Daniel's movies. This means a lot of stress and pressure on a young boy, and travel to Winter Haven. Things go wrong, and Kyra must make a decision. Plus, cameraman Troy is back on the scene with a lot of surprises and twists. (love interest)

Avery is struggling as she misses Chase, but she is not willing to commit to marriage right now, and is at a loss. He appears to be dating someone else. She is involved in her tiny house projects but wishes he were by her side.

Nikki is married to the hunky Joe, an FBI agent, but he travels a lot, leaving her with twin girls and all that comes with motherhood. Joe has ensured that she has a nanny, but things become tense when Nikki feels inadequate and wants to be able to do it all, forcing her to take on tasks that come back to bite her.

Bitsy is from Palm Beach (my neck of the woods-with all the Bernie/Ponzi) - and her husband (Bertie) has taken off with all her millions. She is out for revenge, while he is off to the Camen Islands, spending her money with a new woman. She, Joe, and her attorneys are developing a plan to find him and the money. The ladies are there to support her.

Amidst the struggles, there are Cheeze Doodles, cocktails, good food, conversations, and beach sunsets with the ladies and their One Good Thing. The fun vintage fashion shows, their dating life, and a lot of laughs will keep you entertained and bring a sense of joy.

Will each lady find her happiness beyond all the struggles before the book and series end?

Was there always a risk attached to reward?

My thoughts...

I love this series, the cast, and BEST BEACH EVER! I have read every book and novella in the series and would love for the series to continue. And look at this adorable cover! #CoverCrush

Lost Everything, But Still Standing Sisterhood!

Do not give up, as I just finished Just Beachy (June 2025) so you will find a new former actress in need of a reset (which she is in the right place) and while reuniting with her spunky Grand, her first love, and the ladies of Ten Beach Road! Also 5 Stars.

After reading Just Beachy and about to post my review, and wanted to link all my past reviews in the series, I realized I had not posted my review of Best Beach Ever. During this time, both my parents died 10 months apart and I was in North Carolina dealing with their estate, probate, sale of townhome, funerals etc for most of the year and before.

I adore these ladies and can relate to Maddie, who is my favorite (though I love them all), and especially the setting! As I have mentioned in my reviews previously, I love St. Pete, Treasure Island, Pass-a-Grille, and the Indian Rock Beach area. Even though I have lived in West Palm Beach for over 20 years (originally from Atlanta), I previously an office in Tampa and on weekends, I would take my bike to Sarasota, Siesta Key, St. Pete, Treasure Island, and my favorite spot, the Colonial Court Inn (Indian Rock Beach), and ride down to Pass-a-Grille. I have many fond memories. I miss it.

I also lived and worked in the Florida Keys, and these cottages remind me of Bungalows Key Largo (highly recommend), and my favorite of the Keys, Islamorada —Checca Lodge, Pierres and Morada Bay—as why I loved Mermaid Point and all the landmarks I got to revisit (The Lorelei).

I am a huge long-time fan of Wendy Wax and love her style. I do hope this series continues, even with a spin-off. With well-developed characters, all the ladies are highly relatable (across all ages), and they are a lot of fun, inspiring, and empowering. Their relatability will make you feel like you're part of their journey.

An ideal pick for book clubs and further discussions. Check out Wendy's website for a fun book club kit and delicious recipes.

Charming, heartwarming, and entertaining! Lots of humor and sass. I am fully invested in these lovable characters. From friendship, motherhood, romance, and mystery, BEST BEACH EVER is a perfect beach read, and I love being transported to their beach sunsets. The series is not just a read, it's an experience that will keep you engaged and entertained. YOU MUST READ THEM ALL.

Please do not let this series end. Even though I loved the wrap-up, I need to check in with these ladies to see what new chapters and adventures they are involved in.

Recs...

BEST BEACH EVER is for fans of the author and the Ten Beach Road series as well as those who enjoy books by Karen White, Kristy Woodson Harvey, Mary Kay Andrews, and Viola Shipman.

Thanks to Berkley and NetGalley for a gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I would highly recommend reading them all in order. You can check out my reviews below to get a better understanding of the series. My favorite beach read series.

I will admit that of the Ten Beach Road series Best Beach Ever is only the 2nd one I've read after Ten Beach Road itself. I enjoyed the first one immensely, thoroughly engaged with the characters and their commitment to learning about each other as strangers and solving their collective problem.

Sadly, I thought Best Beach Ever was utterly BORING. When did these strong, competent ladies turn into whiners? Does author Wendy Wax get an outrageously high royalty for repeatedly mentioning "Ted Peters smoked fish spread" which she did every single time the ladies met at sunset? Every. Single. Time. Good grief. Is there no other snack food on their beach besides "Ted Peters smoked fish spread" ... and Cheetos. At least the Cheetos have a back story.

There was one quote (pg 296):
" I call it intensive action therapy," he said, plopping down on the sofa beside her. "You just keep moving and doing things that are supposed to be fun until they are. It's sort of whistling in the dark of happiness."

While I love that quote and heartily agree with the sentiment, the "intensive action therapy" Wax uses for "Ted Peters smoked fish spread" turned me off. Unfortunately, Best Beach Ever may have turned me off the "intensive action therapy" of reading all the Ten Beach Road series books I missed.

2 stars, a disappointed D because Best Beach Ever was not the best beach READ ever.

Loved this book as much as the first five books in the series. You know the stories are good when you start seeing the characters in the story as real people in your life and can't wait to hear what's going on with them, cheering them on when they struggle and so on. Cannot wait to read book six in the series!

Best Beach Ever by Wendy Wax is the sixth novel in Ten Beach Road series. January 2 has rolled around, and the ladies have moved out of Bella Flora, so tenant can move in. They have into their cottages at the Sunshine Hotel. Madeline Singer is getting ready to go on tour with her rocker boyfriend, Will. Kyra and her son, Dustin will be departing in two weeks for Orlando where Dustin will make his acting debut in his father’s, Daniel Deranian new film. Kyra is not looking forward to spending six weeks in the company of Daniel’s wife, Tonja Kay. Nicole Grant Giraldi and her husband, Joe are busy as the parents of active twin daughters. Nicole has not lost her baby weight and is unhappy with her body image. Avery has a new project designing a tiny home. She likes Chase Hardin, but she is unable to commit. Something is holding her back. Bitsy Baynard realizes her husband is not returning (it has been over a year), and she is trying to locate Bertrand along with the money he stole. These ladies are friends (family) through the good times and the bad. They have been through rough times and come out the other side better for it. Come along for another journey with the ladies and see if they get their happily ever after.

Best Beach Ever is my favorite book in the series. It is a well-written and engaging story. You do need to read the Ten Beach Road series in order or you will be lost. There are too many characters and backstories. These ladies have been on a journey. They were taken advantage of in a Ponzi scheme and received Bella Flora as a settlement. They had a successful television show and then lost it. They now must rent out Bella Flora to recoup their loss. The benefit is they are all together at the Sunshine Hotel and Beach Club. These women have a great friendship. Maddie is the matriarch of the group and she dispenses valuable wisdom to the group. It has been lovely to watch these women grow over the course of the series. I admit to being frustrated with Kyra and Avery in this installment (just wanted to shake some sense into them). It was nice to watch each woman come into her own. It is a sweet, feel good novel. I am giving Best Beach Ever 4 out of 5 stars. Best Beach Ever is the perfect summer novel.

My Review of “Best Beach Ever” by Wendy Wax Berkely Publishing Group Publishing Date: May 22, 2018

Author Wendy Wax , “Best Beach Ever” has written an enjoyable, heartwarming, emotional and captivating novel. The Genres for this novel are Fiction and Women’s Fiction. The timeline of this story is mostly in the present only going back a few years when it pertains to the characters or events in the story. There are other books in this series by Wendy Wax, but this can be read as a stand-alone.

The author describes her colorful cast of characters as complex, complicated and confused. Most are likable, and many are very close friends and relatives. Each of the main characters seems to have a decision to make, and at times set-backs before they can move forward. Kyra and the other characters are forced to rent out their beloved Bella Flora, in order to keep it. Maddie, Nikki, Avery, and Bitsy move into the cottages at the Sunshine Hotel and Beach Club , not certain of the future.

Each of the characters has their own set of problems . I appreciate the way the author shows the importance of emotional support of family, friends, and neighbors. I would like to thank NetGalley for a copy of this ARC for my honest review. I would recommend this book to readers of Women’s Fiction. Happy Reading!

I could have sworn that I read part of the "Ten Beach Road" series before this book. However, when I checked it out, I had not. Apparently, these characters are so well written that I felt comfortable with them right away which just gave me the impression I had spent time with them before.

There is lots going on in this book which focuses on a group of five friends who have lots of problems that they help each other with and through. There are a lot of obstacles along the way which include a Hollywood leading man, a lying, thieving husband and a rehabilitated aging rock star who's making a comeback.

I loved the evenings when they get together to watch the sunset and take turns saying something good about their day. I think that's a great idea and hope to include at least the saying something good part in my future days.

I enjoyed spending time with these characters and wish that I had started with book one in the series. Not because this could not be read as a standalone, but because I would have liked to have been with them during earlier times and issues that were mentioned in this book. It is definitely a series that is going on my TBR list.

Thanks to Berkley Publishing and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Thank you to NetGalley.com for the opportunity to read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

#6 in the series (are we counting the novella?) and I still look forward to these books. I probably relate most to Maddie but Avery is my favorite. I think its because every time I read these books I get an insane craving for the Laura Scudder’s puffy cheese things of my childhood in the royal blue bag (and no, Puffy Cheetohs will not do). It was wonderful to see Bitsy grow as a person and to see Nicole realize that motherhood doesn’t always come natural and those who may not be the best mothers while their offspring are young, may hit their strides in the turbulent teen years instead.
What I loved: Finally – things are moving for these ladies! I felt that books 4, 5 ,and the Novella were just treading water but there are actual plot closures in the book. Yippee!!! And then there are like 6 more potential plots that could lead to books 7-10 but if the series ended with 6 – I would have the closure I always like to have with books.

What I didn’t love: I wish Maddie would let the ladies be a little sarcastic, angry and even mean when stating their good things. Not every good thing has to be unicorn farts with sparkly rainbows with birds chirping everywhere. Sometimes the good thing is the little sliver of silver in that dark, nasty rain cloud that’s been following you everywhere.

What I learned: Can I get a Luvie for my 18 year old?

Overall Grade: B

A great ending to this story. Nice to see HEAs. There were times when I was so frustrated with all the women but Maddie. They whined, they drank and felt sorry for themselves. Very selfish personality types. I adored the ladies and their friendships. I loved the beach and all the side characters, but the woe is me attitude from Kyra, Nikki and Avery could wear your out lol

I love a good beach read ... I am familiar with Wendy, I have yet to read any of her books so far, this is my 1st one. I loved it. I am new to the series ... I am so thinking when I get the chance I will start at the beginning ... to get more to these characters. I think you can read them separately but might enjoy the whole beginning to end kind of fill of them all. For me I really felt or could understand Nikki life more than the other ladies ... I could see their life and all but Nikki seemed more down to earth or fun? if that makes sense. You felt for her and her daily life and what she was going through. Love the cover. I believe this was a Goodreads giveaway book. It was release May 22nd of this year. Check it out!! Loved it. Fun quick read for me. ( ;

We meet the women still at the Sunshine Hotel & Beach Club. They all have important decisions to make about their lives and how to move forward. Maddie is going on tour with Will but feels like she is not herself since she is not doing anything, Avery is in love with Chase but can't commit, Kyra is still upset about having to rent out Bella Flora and agreeing to let her son, Dustin, be in a movie with his father, Nikki is struggling with being a mother of twins and with her weight but feels she has to do it all, and Bitsy is still trying to recover her money that was taken by her husband. At the end of the book to varying degrees these problems have been solved. The book was a quick easy read.

I’m very sad this series is over! I’ve loved seeing these characters grow over almost 5 years and across 6 books and 2 novellas. What an awesome pack of women - love them, their friendship and all their adventures. There were some long story arcs that started several books ago that were wrapped up. I also love the way that the author Wendy Wax made it clear this was the end in the epilogue as she talked to the reader through Maddie and Kyra. Love love love.

Summer must be getting close because the women of Ten Beach Road are back at the beach with an entertaining new novel. I have only read the first two novels in this series and was a bit confused at times so I suggest that you read the series in order. That said, now I have the fun of going back to the beginning and reading all the adventures of the eclectic group of friends.

The group of friends in this book give us a bit of everything that bothers women - we have a mom trying to learn to live life with twin babies while she is worried about getting rid of her baby fat, a mom who has learned to love again while she is still worried about her daughter and grandson, a woman who has is afraid to love and another woman who has been cheated out of her money by a man she loved. The best part - it takes place at the beach and there is a happy ending for everyone!

This is a perfect series of books to put in your suitcase or add to your Kindle for that beach vacation

Thanks to first to read for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.

The women of 10 Beach Road are back and I couldn't be happier! Reading the book is catching up with old friends. You are rooting for them to succeed in all they do- love, family and careers - and want to be toasting the sunset on the beach with them. Nicki is struggling to lose the baby weight and be super Mom to her twins while Joe is traveling for work. Avery is afraid to let her heart trust the love she feels for Chase after her hurt her. Bitsy is still looking to find her husband and get some of her money back. Maddie is going to go on tour with Will but she feels at loose ends with nothing to do all day. And Kyra has agreed to let Dustin be in his father Daniel's movie but is afraid she may regret it. At the heart it is a story of strong women finding their way through life and love with the support of their friends. Perfect read for a long weekend or vacation.

I received a copy of this from Goodreads and the publisher in exchange for an honest review! All opinions my own.

I like series books because the characters, if they're well-written, get to be friends. I've been fond of all the women in the Ten Beach Road series from the beginning, even when they're doing dumb, dumb things, so this was comforting and enjoyable in that way. And it resolved a few things that have always bothered me - how badly Daniel treated Kyra, how desperately Troy was obviously pining for her - in ways that actually felt realistic. Troy as a trust fund baby hiding behind a camera? Silly, but no sillier than anything else that's happened in these books. They're not reality. It's not Great Literature. Books like Best Beach Ever exist because people like happy endings. This had a happy ending, so it made me happy.

The lovely ladies of Ten Beach Road were back in Best Beach Ever–and every single one of them were facing a personal challenge of some sort. Written with Wendy Wax’s lush descriptions of Florida’s gorgeous beaches, her trademark mix of humor and drama, this proved to be one seriously heartfelt novel that will be difficult to top.

Wendy Wax didn’t pull any punches in this sixth installment in her super popular Ten Beach Road series. I’m not kidding when I say every character faced down their own issues this time around. But thankfully things not only ended on a positive note for them all, but the camaraderie, the self-discovery, and the entertaining antics took center stage just as they should have. Read More

I finally got some resolution to all of the story lines that had not been sewed up in the previous book in the series. I really liked how the author summed it all up in the epilogue but yet I feel like there's room to open the series up again for further development if the author decides to do so. I liked listening to this book on audio. There were a lot of fun voices to listen to in this version.

Synopsis:

Despite their hopes for smooth sailing, the ladies of Ten Beach Road confront choppy seas in this novel in the bestselling series.

Forced to rent out or lose their beloved Bella Flora after the loss of their renovation-turned-reality-TV show Do Over, Maddie, Nikki, Avery, Kyra, and Bitsy move into cottages at the Sunshine Hotel and Beach Club believing the worst is over. Only to discover just how uncertain their futures really are.

Maddie struggles with the challenges of dating a rock star whose career has come roaring back to life while Nikki faces the daunting realities of mothering twins at forty-seven. Avery buries herself in a tiny home build in an attempt to dodge commitment issues, and Kyra battles to protect her son from the Hollywood world she once dreamed of joining. And Bitsy is about to find out whether the rewards of seeking revenge will outweigh the risks.

Luckily, when the going gets tough, the ladies of Ten Beach Road know that their friendship–tried and tested–can chase away the darkest clouds and let the sun shine in… (Goodreads)

Review:

This is the story of five friends who have stuck together through thick and thin. They have been there for each other during the good times and bad, through the tears and laughter and everything in-between. All of them have had hardships in their lives and have had to overcome many things. But they have also had friendship and support and friends that always had their backs. We should all be so lucky to have that strong of a support system in our lives.

Bitsy has had to deal with her husband leaving her (along with emptying out their bank account) for another woman. Nikki is struggling with being a mom of twins, not knowing what she is doing, and also struggling with her weight gain. Avery is having trouble making a commitment to Chase. She loves him but is afraid to take the ultimate next step in their relationship. Maddie is going on tour with her boyfriend, Will, but she is wondering if there is not more to life. And Kyra has agreed to letting her son, Dustin, be in his father’s movie, but that means she has to spend time with her ex and his wife. That will be hard for her to handle. So as you can see, they all have burdens to bear and things to work out.But they will do it with the help of each other.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the time I was right there watching everything develop. She is also very talented in her character development and she has created people that have depth and faults and good qualities. I would like to visit them and spend time with them.

This book evoked a lot of emotions while reading it: laughter, frustration, sadness, gladness and hope. I think it takes a special writer to take the reader through this vast array of emotions and I am glad to have taken this journey through her book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted women’s contemporary. This is the sixth book in the series and it can be read as a stand alone. But I think to fully appreciate, you should read the whole series, so you can see the characters’ development and enjoy spending more time with them.

Best Beach Ever is the 6th entry in the Ten Beach Road series by Wendy Wax. According to Goodreads: “After giving up their renovation-turned-reality-TV-show Do Over, the ladies of Ten Beach Road move into cottages at the Sunshine Hotel and turn their beloved Bella Flora over to its wealthy mystery tenant. Now, each woman will be forced to reexamine and redefine her life, relationships, and dreams.” I enjoy beach reads and was looking forward to this one. However, in the first chapter there were so many characters and references to places and things in the past that I was a bit confused and not sure I would ever get them straight and started to make a list; not a good sign. Things did pick up quickly, though, and the story moved along smoothly.

This was my first introduction to this author and series. I am sure this will be a good read for those who have started with book one, but for me there were obviously so many unknown backstories that it was hard to become engaged or feel connected to any of the characters. Behavior that likely had a valid explanation in a previous book just looked like an unpleasant personality trait without the benefit of hindsight. There was a lot of detail about buildings and scenery; about the cast of characters, not so much. I learned more about Maddie, Nikki, Avery, Kyra,Bitsy and the rest from a blog post than from the book itself, and it took a while to realize that when they said they were going to the Sunshine they meant a hotel and not just outside.

The author writes well, and there were many interesting characters. The plot moved smoothly and quickly. I usually like to start at the beginning of a series, but if I do read a book somewhere in the middle and it reveals characters I want to know better, I will go back and start at the beginning. However, with Best Beach Ever this was not the case. Even though the storyline was more or less wrapped up by the end, it felt like I had just dropped in and that the ending was just priming the reader for the next book. Other series do this of course, notably J. D. Robb and the Eve Dallas In Death series. But even though you would miss a lot of good history and interaction you can read any book standalone and fully understand the characters, plot and setting. As already noted, I might have felt more engaged with or sympathetic to these characters if I knew more about them and didn’t feel so much like I was eavesdropping.

The location descriptions are beautiful and spot on. I am familiar with the area and have family that vacations on Pass-a-Grille each year and I felt like I was there. This story has good pacing, good smooth writing, and I could feel the pain, strong friendship and support from all the characters, as well as laugh at the many humorous moments. I recommend this book for those readers who are current with the series.

Thanks to the publisher Penguin Random House/Berkley Pub for providing an ARC for me to read.

I don't know if it makes a difference or not that I didn't know this was a part of a series - book 6 at that. But there were a lot of characters that seemed like they were going to be main characters, but there wasn't enough pages to give them the attention they deserved. And I had to pause to remember who they were at times because I had a hard time keeping them all straight. Honestly, this as a series could have focused more on just one of the characters, rather than trying to shoehorn in more storylines.

Maddie - oh my goodness am I so tired of hearing how she's the mentor and counselor of the group. I hate when characters are so pigeonholed like she was.

Kyra - girl, get your head on straight! I'm glad she , but having was so dumb and unnecessary. The outcome of both were quite obvious and not at all suspenseful.

Nikki - I totally get not wanting a nanny to take over, but the timeline was so fuzzy with Luvie being gone that it hardly seemed like enough time for her life to fall apart. Seriously, was it one week? Three? Who knows? But I did get very judgy on her constantly feeding her (less than?) one year olds juice and crackers.

Bitsy - maybe another book does justice with her background story, but the resolution to it was not another climax, but rather a yawn. Of course .

Avery - who is she? She pops in and out of scenes and doesn't seem to have much going on. Again, maybe previous books in the series gives more details to her story, but, in this book, it almost just seems like the author kept including her to remind readers that she's still a character in the book.

Also, was this book sponsored by Ted Peters smoked fish spread? Or is that the only thing to eat?

So, yeah, this obviously wasn't my favorite book, but I may try going back and start the series at the beginning. For now, I have too many other books I want to read to try a series that, so far, has been mediocre at best.

My first introduction to this series, I loved Wendy Wax’s ability to create nuanced characters with relationships that felt plausible and possible, and she’s managed to carry that into this story, making the women compelling, intriguing and most of all, people you want to know. As the sixth in the series, I did expect that some of the background events may play into finding the friendships and progression difficult, but Wax gives just enough background to the characters, along with their own fully realized characters to bring an understanding and curiosity about earlier titles, not just holes where ‘something should have been’. Complex, confused and curiously empathetic, even when they weren’t always ‘at their best, the relationships between the women, all at different stages in their lives with their own particular hurdles to overcome show just how affirming and necessary friendships and acceptance are to them all, and how the security of being in that group helps to shore up their own personal courage and face their fears.

From losing baby weight and being a good mum, to allowing forgiveness, struggling with direction and purpose to recouping losses and more, the ladies share concerns, struggles, solutions and laughs in this fun, fast-paced but surprisingly complex read. My only questions came with trying to see just how far each character had come from their early friendships – but fortunately I can catch up by reading the earlier titles in this series. I’m sure readers familiar with this series have this in their beach bag, I’ll have all 6 as I think this is the perfect series to take on that summer vacation to truly escape it all – and revel in friendships and support that everyone seems to need.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Luckily, when the going gets tough, the ladies of Ten Beach Road know that their friendship--tried and tested--can chase away the darkest clouds and let the sun shine in...

My Thoughts: I loved joining the gang on the beach and at Bella Flora for Best Beach Ever. I thought back at how it all began, the struggles along the way, and the wonderful friendships that developed.

By now, the characters feel like old friends, the kind who have suffered through hard times and come out the other side. The kind of friends you love to toast with at sunset when you share your thoughts about your “one good thing” of the day.

The story opens with Nikki, trying hard to lose the weight after giving birth to her twins. Her struggles feel so real, like the kind any new mother might experience, only double because they are twins.

Then there is Kyra, who is accompanying four-year-old Dustin to the movie set where she reluctantly will be allowing him to star with his actor father, directing his first movie. We know that there will be issues galore along the way. I applauded how Kyra finally could see beyond the surface that is Daniel Deranian.

So many other great moments kept me racing along, excited about each discovery on the way to the final page of this 5 star read.

The gals are back again!!! (However, this can be read as a stand alone novel.) They’ve got new challenges to enthrall us!
Bella Flora has been rented out to a former nemesis of Kyra, Troy, who now is claiming that he has always loved her. But Kyra is definitely not buying it and we will have to see where this goes – but don’t be so sure you can predict everything.
Kyra meanwhile has agreed to let her son, Dustin, be in his father Daniel’s new movie. Daniel is now trying to be a director and not just an actor. Kyra has huge reservations about Dustin being with Daniel and his new wife, troubling fears that turn out to be a mother’s gut feelings that are spot on and trustworthy.
Then we have Nicki who has had twins and is trying to get back to her svelte, former form. She’s also finding the care of twins to be overwhelming and her husband Joe advises her to hire some help while he’s away on business. The woman they hire is endearing to the twins and readers as well, perhaps too much so for Nicki’s liking. Niki will change because of this experience as well, in a frustrating but heart-warming series of events.
Bitsy has been cheated out of a fortune but is about to serve her own brand of justice on her lying, cheating husband!
Maddie as always is the imparter of hard-earned wisdom, learned after her own trials and divorce. Still she learns that she’s entitled to her own life with its pleasures with her new romance. But she also learns that she doesn’t have to anyone’s “first” but instead be her own person first. Let the chips fall where they may!
This is the conclusion of this series and readers will want to read the previous five novels. Wendy Wax is a seasoned author who knows how to craft a realistic story with ups and downs that leave the reader challenged and entertained!!! Highly recommended contemporary fiction!
