Harrison Baxter and Edwina Campbell lead completely different lives.

Much has changed for Harry since he escaped his home town of Yallambah ten years ago, headed for the bright lights of the big city. Now he's the star of Melbourne's hottest musical, chasing only the next standing ovation. Why bother going back to Yallambah to visit his parents when his father couldn't care less about his success?

Meanwhile, nothing much has changed for Edwina in the last decade, which is exactly how she likes it. Eddie adores her career as a nurse and loves the Yallambah community - she can't imagine living anywhere else. And even if she wanted to, she could never leave her beloved grandparents, who raised her and love her like their own daughter. She's not going to abandon them in their old age. Not for anything.

So when Harry and Eddie bump into each other on one of Harry's flying visits home, their instant mutual attraction seems as pointless as it is intense. There's no way they could ever make it work.

Or is there?

Nicki Edwards is a city girl with a country heart. Growing up on a small family acreage on the outskirts of Geelong, she spent her formative years riding horses and pretending the neighbour’s farm was her own.

After spending three years in a regional city in New South Wales, her love of small country towns was further developed. One day she plans to escape to the country with her husband Tim and live on land, surrounded by horses, dogs, cows and sheep. Until then she lives vicariously through the lives of the characters in the rural romance novels she loves to read.

In 2006, when Nicki’s youngest child started school, she returned to university, juggling full time study, part time work and raising four small children, to achieve her dream of becoming a nurse. Always a voracious reader, Nicki’s other dream was to be an author.
Nicki writes medical rural romance for Momentum and when she isn’t reading, writing or dreaming about rural life and medical emergencies, she can be found working as a Critical Care Nurse in a busy Intensive Care Unit, where many of her stories and characters are imagined.

Nicki and Tim reside in Geelong, Victoria with their four teenage/young adult children. Life is busy, fun and at times exhausting, but Nicki wouldn’t change it for anything.

Her debut novel, “Intensive Care” was released in January 2015 with Momentum, the digital imprint of Pan Macmillan Australia. Her second novel, “Emergency Response” comes out in October 2015. The third and fourth books in the ‘Escape to the Country’ series, “Life Support” and “Critical Condition” will be released in 2016.

One More Song by Aussie author Nicki Edwards is a truly beautifully written story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I never imagined this to be a five-star rating when I first started reading it, but the way Nicki combines romance, and country living with relatable characters and a storyline that had me not wanting to put the book down made this book such a great read. Highly recommended.

Harrison Baxter revelled in his life – musical theatre meant everything to him and his lead role in Les Mis was a dream come true. The Sydney season was coming to an end and he and the crew would begin in Melbourne in the New Year. In the meantime, Harry was heading home to Yallamba for Christmas. His mother, father, sister Claire and husband Simon, plus their two children had always lived in his old home town, but the bitterness between Harry and his dad was what had kept him away for so long. He wasn’t looking forward to the week-long stay…

Edwina Campbell – nurse; volunteer with the SES - had offered to take over the organising of the children’s Christmas party which her Nan had always done, as she was in hospital following a hip replacement. Her grandad was with her Nan, so Eddie was alone at the farm. As things started to go wrong – one after another – Eddie didn’t know how she would manage. But the arrival on the scene of Harry, with his offer of help, was a lifesaver for Eddie. Maybe their Christmas party would be a success after all?

But would the flush of attraction between Eddie and Harry ever come to anything? When tragedy and heartache loomed, it seemed to be over before it began. As the town of Yallamba rallied, uncertainty was high. What would be the future for these caring, special people in the small town of Yallamba?

One More Song by Aussie author Nicki Edwards was absolutely superb! Filled with heartache, hope, happiness and sadness; of loss, the loyalty of family and most of all, of life, One More Song ticks all the boxes. Wonderfully rounded characters, I especially enjoyed Eddie – written with compassion, caring and sensitivity, the author has written her best yet in my opinion. Highly recommended.

With thanks to Pan Macmillan for my uncorrected proof to read and review.

I really enjoy Australian romances. There is something about the country settings of Australia that are magical. Even though I am well and truly a city girl, I appreciate the slower country feel in rural romances. Nicki Edwards came on my radar when I read The Peppercorn Project . As well as being a great read, I think the author appealed to me because she is also a nurse, and I enjoy the nursing parts of her stories. One More Song was another that did not disappoint.

One More Song was an enjoyable quick read that left some warm and fuzzies behind. Single boy meets newly single girl and sparks fly, but they are from very different worlds. Can they make it work?

I did not enjoy it quite as much as The Peppercorn Project, however it was still a good read. I found the romance to be a little unbelievable at first and the story slightly slow. However, this improved drastically in the second half of the book, when there is a catastrophic event that adds a lot of excitement to the story, and a bit more grit.

I thought the characters were great, and I loved the feel of community within the town. I enjoyed that Harry was in musical theatre. I don't often read about men in musical theatre! It was an interesting perspective.

Lovely story that I would recommend to all romance fans!

Many thanks to Pan Macmillan and Nicki Edwards for a copy of "One More Song" for me to read and review.

Fall in love this holiday season with the latest rural romance novel from Australian author Nicki Edwards. One More Song is the passionate story of Harry and Eddie, two young souls who have very different pathways in life, but find love in the small town of Yallambah. One More Song is a novel filled with plenty of heart, music, romantic complications, family issues and small town country life.

Ten years ago, Harrison ‘Harry’ Baxter traded life on his family’s farm, for a career in musical theatre in the big smoke. Harry has reached the pinnacle of his career, he is the lead in the Melbourne production of the revered musical, Les Misérables. When Harry makes a quick visit home to Yallambah to see his family between shows, he crosses paths with local girl, Edwina ‘Eddie’ Campbell. Eddie is a nurse and local SES volunteer. She loves her career as much as she loves the town of Yallambah. She is part of the fabric of the community, devoted to the small town and caring for her elderly grandparents. The thought of making a life for herself outside Yallambah has never crossed Eddie’s mind. However, when the enigmatic Harry Baxter enters her life, Eddie begins to wonder if she could leave Yallambah for a chance at a happily ever after with Harry. One More Song is the emotional story of Harry and Eddie’s pathway to love and happiness – with a few heartbreaking obstacles thrown into the mix.

Last year I read and reviewed my first Nicki Edwards novel, The Peppercorn Project, a book I adored. When the opportunity came through to review One More Song, I leapt at the chance to read another book by an author I have enjoyed previously. I wasn’t disappointed, this is another excellent novel from Edwards. One More Song demonstrates the true skill Edwards has for gifting her readers with an unforgettable rural romance novel.

The pairing of nurse and tireless SES worker Eddie, with musical theatre extraordinaire Harry, was a great move by Edwards. I loved how these two strong leads, from such differing backgrounds, managed to find one another. Through spending some valued time with these appealing leads, I gleaned a lot about their lives, hopes and fears. Through Harry, we learn about the fascinating musical theatre world. When it is Eddie’s chance to shine, we gain an appreciation for the hard work that goes into being a nurse and a vital SES volunteer. On the whole, the ensuing love story between Eddie and Harry was ideal for me. I enjoyed reading the complications, emotional issues and of course the romance factor in this novel. I thought Edwards presented a love story that was believable and had plenty of drama to keep me turning the pages of this novel at a rapid rate.

There are plenty of issues at hand to keep the narrative of One More Song running. With the complications in love for the leads Harry and Eddie, there are also a host of family secrets, unspoken grievances and health issues for this couple to contend with. Edwards demonstrates her knowledge in the health field by bringing motor neurone disease to the floor through a side narrative thread in the novel. In tacking this aspect of the narrative, Edwards provides a fine balance between raising our awareness of this disease and providing a sensitive portrayal of a family bravely fighting this disease together.

At the heart of One More Song is the sensational rural backdrop to this novel. The township of Yallambah is the place where our leads meet. It is also the setting where the leading lady of the novel, Eddie, feels a deep sense of place. This attachment Eddie feels transfers to the page extremely well. I really felt the stir of emotions Eddie experienced in considering a move away from the only place she has known, for a chance at everything she has dreamed of, a shot a true love. Edwards also gives the reader a great picture of life in a small town. Although there is the overwhelming feeling of living in each other’s hip pockets, Edwards shows us how the sense of community spirit is unbreakable in tiny towns such as Yallambah. This is highlighted by a major incident that rocks the Yallambah community in the second half of the novel. The incident brings heartache and grief, but also much change to the main characters and whole community of Yallambah. It is a pivotal force, influencing the direction of the final direction of the novel. It was a shift that I found satisfying as One More Song drew to a fine close.

It was a delight to embark on a jaunt to the charming community of Yallambah, through One More Song. The medley of inviting characters, a stunning country backdrop and a remarkable love story, makes One More Song a book that will resonate, long after the final page has come to a rest.

*I wish to thank Pan Macmillan for providing me with a free copy of this book for review purposes.

Harrison Baxter is a musical theatre star. When the reader first meets him he is involved in the Sydney production of Les Mis. After Christmas he will be off to Melbourne for the show’s run there. But first he has to get through Christmas in Yallambah. Given Harrison’s choice of profession, relationships with his father have strained for years. Though Harry wants to see his mother and his sister and her family, part of him still dreads going home. Edwina Campbell, usually known as Eddie, could not be more different. She loves the Yallambah community and her grandparents who raised her after her mother died when she was young. Now they are old she refuses to abandon them. But as she takes on and strives to prepare for Christmas celebrations for the community, help comes from a very unexpected source and sets off a train of events and feeling she had not counted on. Decisions need to be made.
I loved this book from the opening. Of course it probably doesn’t hurt that I love musical theatre and Les Mis is my favourite musical. The contrast between the two lifestyles of Harrison and Eddie is well conveyed and the community of Yallambah is convincing. Family, community, choices, broken relationships, unexpected illness and, grief, romance and choices all play their part in this engaging and beautiful story that highlights some of the vagaries and drama of the Australian climate.
I shared every moment with Harry and Eddie and their respective families. They are not perfect but they are oh so real. If you can make it through this book without tears then you are better than me. I couldn’t. A great Aussie read and terrific five star start to 2021. I adored it. Highly recommended to all who love a good story, well told.

One More Song is the story of Harrison Baxter and Edwina Campbell and how they both achieve their dreams. Harrison Baxter came home to Yallamba because his father was ill. After Edwina Campbell grandmother had a fall volunteered to take over her job of organising the annual Christmas dinner. Edwina Campbell thought it would easy, however, it was not as easy as she thought and things were starting to fall apart until she met Harrison Baxter. The readers of One More Song will continue to follow Harrison Baxter to see what happens.

I enjoyed reading One More Song. I have read a couple of Nicki Edwards books, and I have loved every one of them. I liked Nicki Edwards portrayals of her characters especially Harrison Baxter and Edwina Campbell. One More Song is well written, and research by Nicki Edwards and it engaged me from the first page. I like the way Nicki Edwards describes her settings and plot. I love the way Nicki Edwards use "Empty Chairs At Empty Tables" from Les Miserables https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POvsv... it made me cry with her characters in the church.

The readers of One More Song will learn about being part of the musical scene in Australia and what it takes to achieve your dreams. Also, the readers of One More Song highlights the importance of encouraging our children to achieve their goals.

I recommend this book.

I received an advanced reading copy of this book.
I love the way Nicki Edwards blends romance, country life and family all into one. She also reminded me about how much I love musicals.
This book is about choices - life choices and home choices are key. Harrison comes home from his successful musical theatre life and meets up with Edwina through a chance encounter. Their separate lives come together in ways that are completely unexpected. It is how they then support one another that I find interesting. Two different people, two different lives coming together in one place.
One More Song is well written and the growing relationship between the Harry and Eddie keeps your interest. I love seeing how different scenarios play out with relationships in books. There are good ways to write them and bad ways. I feel that in this case, Edwards has done a great job considering the various trials and events the characters go through.
The other thing that this author does very well is brings in other characters that help everyone play off one another. As you can imagine, in a small country town everyone knows everyone and your business becomes everyone's business very quickly. Family secrets may stay hidden for some time but they will be revealed eventually. Do you reveal it or does someone beat you to it?
Can true love conquer all? One More Song is a great book to help evaluate that question. Does love mean more than everything else you have held true? Can it sustain you when all else fails? Read this book and enjoy the fun and tragedy that brings Harry and Eddie together, and maybe tears them apart.

Once again we have been taken on an emotional rollercoaster. I loved the character development throughout the novel of all the characters. It became easy to love not only Harry and Eddie but all the characters.
Nicki has once again brought to our attention the bug issues such as MND, natural disasters and strained relationships.
I read the novel in a day while on holidays. My only suggestion is be prepared for ugly crying to happen. Not so great when you are trying to hold it together poolside.

I often rate but not review. Today I need to write a few lines though. Thank you Nicki. I adored this story - enough that I had to just keep reading. I don't thank you for the tears - my eyes are still red and I have to head out to meet people I've never met before with red eyes. I'll blame you...in the nicest possible way.

Wow. One More Song delves into the emotions of Harrison and Edwina. Both have different emotional journeys, but the strength they contain in themselves, begin to shine, especially when their lives are put to a test. Nicki has a beautiful way of touching your emotions by taking you where your head and heart meets.

One More Song is the latest in the list of Nicki Edwards books that I have read and loved, but I think this is the first that I actually have in paperback so I thought that was a little special; being the first paperback it’s the first we have been able to feature as a book club read so I hope that our readers love this story as much as I do.

Nicki’s Escape to the Country series was largely set in one small town region surrounding a hospital. One More Song is set in the fictional town of Yallambah in the Victorian High Country, an area decimated by bushfire the year before the story is set.

Harrison Baxter is the prodigal son, born to a farmer and expected to take over in the succession plan. Harrison may have been born to a farmer but he certainly wasn’t born to be a farmer and he knew it from early on. Harrison always dreamed of becoming a performer, even though it created quite a rift between he and his father and saw his visits become less and less frequent.
Harry agrees to come home for Christmas in the lead up to a charity show fundraising for the bushfire victims, on his first day back in town he crosses paths with Eddie (Edwina) Campbell.
Eddie also grew up in Yallambah but she has always been very happy nestled in the heart of her community and taking care of her grandparents. Things just lately haven’t really gone her way but she loves her work as a nurse and a volunteer with the SES, she is completely community minded and is more than happy to make Yallambah the bulk of her world.
One More Song is another sizzling story of an Australian summer, complete with bushfire threat and the need to be prepared. These stories always get me thinking, and wondering about what I would do in the situation because I’m in an area that needs me to be bushfire ready.
Musical theatre features quite predominantly and I am amazed at how prevalent this subject matter is lately, but perhaps it’s just that I have become more open to it. I was always very closed to the idea but over the last year or so my mind has been opened a little, and is ready to be opened some more if the right opportunities are to present themselves.
Harry is currently performing in Les Mis and it’s a scaled back version of that being performed in Yallambah, he has performed in some big name shows that even I have heard of, and his dream is to make it to the big time, internationally. He isn’t thrilled to be home for Christmas, time with his family always ends up quite stressful but he has even more to face this time round because his infrequent family contact mean he has missed out on quite a lot, but now could be the perfect opportunity to try and make amends. He can’t do anything to change the past but maybe he can make a better future.

I have read all of Nicki Edwards's novels, and this is definitely the best. It's a standalone story (or maybe the beginning of a new series - who knows), so it's a great place to start if you haven't read any of her earlier rural romances. The other main difference this one has a little less of a medical focus, which is great for readers like me who are a little squeemish (there are good reasons why I didn't go into a medical profession).

Instead, One More Song has a focus on the performing arts (much more my style). Harrison Baxter is a rising star in musical theatre, to the disappointment of his father, who expected his only son to follow family tradition, marry a local girl and take over the family farm. He's not even in a relationship, unless you count the friends-with-benefits arrangement he has with Riley, who is now living in London.

Edwina Campbell is a nurse in her small Australian home town of Yallambah, and has no plans to leave her home, her job, or her grandparents—not even when her boyfriend accepts his dream job in San Francisco without discussing it with her first. She can't leave the grandparents who raised her after the death of her mother, and her father has never been around.

Harry and Eddie meet when Harry comes back to Yallambah for Christmas, and they are immediately attracted. But it's not going to be a smooth ride ....

One More Song was a lot more than "just" a romance novel. If anything, the romance was the subplot, with the main plots being Harry and Eddie's individual family problems, and the ... no. That would be a spoiler. You'll have to take my word for it that One More Song is a great story with plenty of unexpected twists and turns.

Recommended for fans of Australian rural romance, medical romance, and musical theatre.

I've enjoyed reading Nicki Edward's Australian rural/medical romances - and I enjoyed her One More Song, though with some mixed feelings.

On reflection, though I enjoyed very many elements in the book, I felt as if it was trying too do much. The story is mostly set in picturesque rural town in north-east Victoria near Beechworth - and it picks up themes of bushfires, drought, floods, charity concerts, motor neurone disease, caring for aging loved ones, as well as absent and or distant fathers. Harry - a talented singer in musical theatre - is handsome and caring and very likeable, while Eddie (Edwina), a nurse in the local hospital, is strong, passionate, loyal and fierce. There is obvious chemistry between the two, though they need to work through their various commitments to family and how to 'marry' Harry's (potentially international) career with Eddie's strong ties to her grandparents, nursing and local community.

For me, I found the love arc a little messy as both Harry and Eddie come into the story with current relationships (Harry a friend with benefits, Eddie a long distant relationship with a narcissistic man) and the pace itself was rather stop, start and then, all of a sudden, resolved. Still, I loved the characters, the lovingly reproduced rural setting, as well as the ambience of the musical theatre scene.

One More Song is a delightfully heartfelt rural romance novel by bestselling Australian novelist Nicki Edwards. It’s heartwarming and charming, but also incredibly endearing and filled with realistic emotion and engaging, relatable characters.

Eddie and Harry are two people from different worlds, and One More Song is about them overcoming their differences and learning to follow their dreams and find a way to be together. Following their story and reading about their budding romance is a really enjoyable experience, and I really thought this book was wonderful and really well-written.

Both characters have their flaws. Harry doesn’t really get along with his father and has spent years ignoring the elephant in the room and avoiding trying to work things out with him. Eddie has been living with her grandparents, too devoted to them to really live her own life. When the two meet, they’re able to help each other. They are able to tackle their problems and realise what it is that they both want.

“How long has he been sick, Mum?”
She shrugged. “A few months.”
“A few months?” He only realised he’d raised his voice when Claire kicked him under the table.
“He never got over that flu,” Jenny said.
Harry frowned. “But that was back in June. Are you saying he’s been sick for six months?”

I think the novel was paced really well, allowing us to really spend time with the characters and feel like we understand them and can sympathise with them. Nicki is really great at crafting three-dimensional, relatable characters.

I did feel like in real life, these two types of people would never be able to actually make a relationship work, but I cast that thought aside and just went along with the book.

“Her face warmed. Normally if a man ogled her like that, she would have told him to look elsewhere, but with Harry it felt different — like he genuinely liked all of her — inside and out.”

I recommend this novel to romance and rural fiction readers. It’s heartfelt and beautiful, but it’s also a fun and addictive novel.

Thank you to the publisher for sending me a review copy in exchange for an honest review

I was lucky enough to be chosen by Beauty and Lace Bookclub and Pan MacMillan to receive a copy of One More Song by Nicki Edwards to read and review.

This is the first novel I have read by this author and it didn't disappoint. This is a
well researched and very well written story.

The story starts off similar to other contemporary rural romances and is a fun read. It continues with twists and turns and is able to delve into serious topics such as Motor Neurone Disease and struggles of living in the bush without becoming depressing.

I can't wait to read more of this author's work.

'One More Song' is the first Nicki Edwards book I've read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a nice easy read for over the busy Christmas period but still had enough suspense to keep me picking it up and reading when I had time.
Edwina (Eddie) Campbell has lived in Yallambah all her life, she loves the community and is heavily involved as her job as a nurse and volunteering with the local SES. She has no intentions of leaving Yallambah or her Grandparents who raised her after her Mum died.
It's just before Christmas at Eddie is having a tough time, her Grandparents are in respite, her boyfriend breaks up with her and her plans are falling apart for the annual Christmas dinner she is organising in place of her Grandmother.
When she bumps into ex local Harrison (Harry) Baxter sparks immediately fly and he finds himself helping Eddie out of her bind and saving the Christmas dinner.
Harry escaped from Yallambah 10 years ago to follow his dreams and now finds himself centre stage and a star of musicals. A rocky relationship with his father stops him from coming home to Yallambah very often. On this visit for Christmas he finds things have changed at home since his last visit and his family have been keeping a family illness from him.
Harry ends up spending more time at home than he intended to allowing his feelings for Eddie and a relationship to develop. Will there relationship be able to survive when they live in very different worlds, Eddie has no desire to move away from her home town and Harry loves the bright lights of the stage.
As a bushfire rages Eddie and Harry are forced to look into there futures and assess what's most important to them and if there love can survive the challenges they will face if there relationship continues.
Huge thanks to Pan Macmillan and Beauty & Lace for the chance to review OneMore Song, I will defiantly be reading more Nicki Edwards books!

Thank you Beauty and Lace and Pan Macmillan for the chance to read and review this book One More Song by Nicki Edwards.

This is my first book by Nicki Edwards and I have to say it won’t be my last. From the moment I picked it up I was wanting to do nothing but read and be enthralled by what was happening.

The book is based around two main characters Eddie and Harrison. Eddie your average country girl not wanting to leave town content with her job as a nurse in the small country hospital. Harrison the son who doesn’t want to take over the family farm and spread his wings elsewhere.

There were tears and laughter and even parts that made me mad. I really enjoyed all of the book and would definitely recommend to others who are a fan or rural or contemporary women’s fiction.

I adore Nicki Edward's writing style. I've read all her books and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. I love the combination of medical and rural romance - all the small town busybody issues without the farm equipment. And this time, there's a bit of rock star romance thrown in.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book about a nurse Eddie and a singer Harry and how they met and their relationship formed in a small town. I found this book very real touching subjects of elderly parents and a parent with a terminal debilitating illness with no cure. It was interesting reading how these two worked through these issues.

Take one musical theatre star, add one dedicated country nurse, toss in resentments, ageing grandparents, broken romance, a life-limiting illness, Christmas and a bushfire and you have another excellent book by Nicki Edwards. Wonderfully woven together, the story is gripping and touching. This is a must read.

This was such a beautiful novel.

Nicki Edwards sure knows how to put a good Australian rural romance into a novel.

There are so many elements to this book that I just loved. How Nicki puts so much detail into the story is amazing.

This book will touch your heart, and make you cry.
It covers love, grief, illness, dreams, passion and family.

With Nicki's medical background, the stories are really brought to life through her words. So much knowledge behind one sentence. It becomes very relatable.

Nicki Edwards deserves applauding for this marvellous novel!

This book was sent to me by the publisher for my honest review.

I think Harry, despite being quite selfish at times, is the shining character in this book. He clearly struggles with what he wants and what needs to be done. His relationship with his father is so strained that you can understand why he has pulled away from the family so much. I can also understand his father’s point of view (especially coming from a rural background). I feel that Harry’s character stayed true during the entirety of the book, regardless of the situation he was in. Eddie on the other hand had her mind so set on what she wanted at the start of the book, but shifted dramatically after meeting Harry. Yes, I know people change and all that, but I didn’t truly feel that this was the case for Eddie.

One of the things about this book that I found somewhat confusing was gauging how much time has past between chapters. At times it felt like it must have been days because of the dialogue but is was actually just a night. Quite possibly I am a lazy reader but this made me think a little too much for my liking instead of the story just flowing.

Overall it is a relaxing read with some nice little twists (one in particular I didn’t see coming). It leaves you with a satisfying well written ending, despite the fact that I believe in reality Harry and Eddie wouldn’t work as a couple.
