If there had been half as many instances of "on Season X of VH1 Couple's Therapy with Dr. Jenn" I would be giving this three stars. I don't think I actually needed these celebrity illustrations to understand the point she was making, and I found that with every name drop by skimming to reading ratio increased.
What this book did have going for it was a lot of interesting research studies cited. Some of the studies on communication and intimacy were helpful to consider. Overall, the advice was solid, but it was bogged down with repetition and excessive explanation that felt like filler. If this was the first book I'd ever picked up on relationships maybe I'd have found it more useful, but coming hot off the heels of reading Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, I was unimpressed.
I used to love listening to Dr. Jen on Sirius radio and love her style. Much of this comes from well known couples researches (gottman, Hendrix) but it’s easily digestible and helpful info. I recommend it to clients often
I'd say this is the Wikipedia of relationship books. Good overview and general information on the topic, very readable, and with lots of resources for other books to try for more info.
this book had some good points I don't agree with everything she said in some parts of the book but all in all she brings up a lot of good tools you could use in your relationship
This is a very good book for everyone to read. It does not matter if you are not in a romantic relationship, this book can be used for all types of the relationships you have in your life. I could read this multiple times because it was very well written and easy to understand.
