Rick has been taken by the military a second time but after being reunited with a friend he discovers new information about Damocles that leads to a profound turning point in the fight against the weapon. Meanwhile, after Dianne and her children become reunited with some old friends they must deal with a threat to their personal lives that may overwhelm their defenses.

Surviving the Fall is a thrilling post-apocalyptic episodic series that focuses on Rick and Dianne Waters and how they each deal with the apocalypse. Stranded across the country away from his family, Rick must travel from California to Virginia to reunite with his wife and children, all while struggling to comprehend and deal with the horrors along the way.

At home with her three children when she experiences the beginning of the end in a dramatic and deadly fashion, Dianne Waters has experience as a prepper and survivalist, but not even years of training and preparation have readied her for the darkness that comes with the end of the world. Now she must draw upon those skills to protect her loved ones and fight back against those who come against her and her family.

Surviving the Fall will feature 14 episodic (25k-30k words in length) books that are full of action, suspense and drama as Rick and Dianne struggle to survive the end of days. Episodes will be published every 2-3 weeks.

This is the first book in the serial with a cliffhanger ending, but I'm still loving the series: Surviving the Fall. In The Long Road, novella #6, the suspense is revving up, and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Super exciting and highly recommended. Rick Waters is traveling toward his family from the west coast to the east, braving obstacles tasked to find a remedy for Damocles (the extinction-level apocalyptic event) while his family is holed up at home with domestic threats all around. The story is crafted to give a dual perspective on the happenings after the inciting event. Rick was far from his family when the story begins. His home is on the East Coast and his plane had just landed on the West Coast. His part of the story is to attempt to get back home. Meanwhile, his wife has the more claustrophobic responsibility of protecting their home with her young children in tow from external threats that are multiple, significant, and insistent. It is a gripping, fast-paced read that is unrelenting suspense. Really great series.

This installment in the series is not up to par with those that preceded it. Very slow and repetitious.

The Long Road is the sixth book in the Surviving the Fall series. This can be read as a standalone but should not be. It will make more sense if you have read the first five books plus it has a cliffhanger ending. There is a lot of violence, it is an apocalyptic thriller, so it might not be suitable for more sensitive readers.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. This is an apocalyptic thriller filled with people trying to survive in a country and world gone crazy. This story includes a lot of twists and turns. As usual, everything is not as it seems. I look forward to reading more of this series.

My only complaint is that these are short episodes. You just get really engaged in the story and characters and you are to the cliffhanger and have to wait for the next one to be published. But they are so good, and the author writes them fairly quickly so you don't have to wait too long.

"This just keeps getting stranger and stranger."
The tension is growing even greater in this, the sixth episode of the intelligent post apocalyptic thriller. As there Damocles threat increases, and, once again desired by the military, Rick links up with two others to escape from the bunker before lockdown, whist many miles away, his wife, Dianne, and her children have also joined forces with friends for protection.
A plausible thriller serial best started from episode one, but there is a brief introductory résumé.
A quick and easy read with further episodes to follow.
I received a complementary advanced copy of this book from the author. Thank you.

The Surviving the Fall series has quickly moved up my list of favorite post-apocalyptic science fiction sagas of all time. I love author Mike Kraus's writing style, admire the world he's developed, appreciate the main characters and side characters who help the plot progress, and listening to Chris Abernathy narrate this series has me (crushing on his voice and) on the edge of my seat in total excitement for the next chapter, and the next book, too! I haven't been bored from reading this series even for a moment, so kudos to Mike (and Chris) for developing United States dystopia that I see vividly in my mind. I don't wish for the world to end, but if I could insert myself into a scenario where the world as we know it ends, I'd prefer this dystopian fiction of Mike Kraus's imagination over one where a meteor wipes out human existence or where aliens take over the planet. Mike, you are incredibly talented, and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

Rick finds himself back in the custody of the military and meets a friend when he gets. At the Waters homestead danger is ramping up.

This is the sixth book in the survivalist post apocalyptic series, Surviving the Fall. I enjoy the variety of characters. They are full of personality, complete with strengths and weaknesses. The story being split between Rick and Dianne allows for different perspectives and experiences. I also enjoyed the glimpses into what is happening other places in the world. The storyline flows quickly and smoothly and is filled with interesting information, action, danger and emotional drama. The writing is well done and the story is compelling. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I can honestly say that I DO love the story. The writing, the characters, the action and definitely the plot. It IS short and I do HATE the wait to see what is going to happen, (Seriously... who doesn't?). But I can also honestly say that I usually pass on short books since you are just starting to get into it when all of a sudden it's just done, but this series is an exception. When the quality of the writing is this good... even short and having to wait for the next chapter is fine with me.

PLEASE please please don't end it here tho, Mike! I so hope you plan on going past six as there is more to be done and addressed!!

I am really glad I have the box set of this series because each episode is rather short, so it's good to be able to keep reading the next, and so on.

Tension is certainly building for Rick and Dianne as they each fight to survive the devastated world. Threats are around every corner; either from technology or humans.

Apart from the grammatical errors, this has a great writing style.

Recommended.

Keeps gett8ng Better

Book 6 and I'm still enjoying the story.
Usually by book 4 or 5 I've got the storyline and usually the ending figured out so I quit reading. It is the rare occasion I come across an author that keeps me wanting more!
Mike Krause is one of these rare occasions . I'm looking forward to the next installment

Great series

Great series, as series go. It's just that I hate serialized stories. I would rather a story have a beginning and an end in the same book. I am too impatient to wait until the next book comes out. I would almost rather just forget the series and go to a book with a complete story in one book.

Another great piece to the puzzle!

As each book unfolds you learn more about each of the characters. Who is the strongest, weakest, or most engaged. Each roll is being woven into a complex puzzle. But the main goal of everyone is survival. Love the storyline. Can't wait to read the next one.

I would positively rave about this series if the books were fewer but longer. Lots of action in this one (the last felt more like treading water) and we find out more about Damocles. Ends with a big cliffhanger.

Very Good

Enjoying this series! Hate to wait until November when the next book is out. Overall this has been one of the better series I've read, and I've read a lot lately. Hope the next books are as good as the first six have been.

Now We Are Getting Somewhere!

Book six of the saga of Rick and Dianne is getting interesting and suspenseful. Will Rick, Jane, and Michael leave Cheyenne Mountain? Will Dianne and Jason make it out without injury with Tina? Book seven gives us answers. Onto book seven!

Rick is taken by another military group and runs into Judy again! He connects with the actual creator of Damacus before it was taken by the government and turned into something that could wreck havoc on the world.

Book six

Just finished the sixth book of this series. Go back to the first one if you have not read it. Wonderful ride and the author always ends with an explanation of how he decided which path to follow! Love that part too!

The plot and characters. The author's voice gives the characters believeabiilty, the plot cohesion and also beliveability. I stopped reading another book midway to read this book. Later I returned and completed that book also.

The Long Road

Set in familiar places with realistic characters, minimal use of swear words; following two related stories at once. Engrossing plot.
