داستانی فلسفی به قلمِ "گاردر"، نویسنده رمانِ دنیای سوفی، که از سرگشتگیِ فلسفیِ یک معلمِ اجتماع گُریز می گوید که ازقضا علاقمندِ ریشه هایِ زبانشناختی لغات و اشتراکات آن ها با هم است. هَموکه به شرکت در مراسمِ تشییعِ غریبه هایی که حتی یکی شان را هم نمی شناسد اما برایِ خاطراتش با هر یکی، هزار داستان می سراید، علاقمند است. مردی چنین عجیب، شُده عصایِ ذهن و قلمِ یاستین گاردر

کمتر کسی از جماعت کتابخوان را سراغ دارم که رمانِ "دنیای سوفی" را نخوانده یا دستکم اسمش را نشنیده باشد، اما در عین حال، نامِ نویسنده به دلیل سختی ویا شاید گونه گونیِ تلفظش، به این راحتی ها بِیادسپردنی نیست. باور ندارید سعی کنید نامِ "یاستین گاردر" را بخاطر بسپارید، کافکا که نیست یا کامو؟

با توجه به درهم تنیدگیِ مارپیچِ داستان و هزارتویِ فلش بَک هایِ زمانی که در پس زمینه ای از سوالِ هستی شناسانه یِ "زِ کجا آمده اَم، آمدنم بَهرِ چه بود، بِکُجا میروم اکنون" روایت می شود، خواندن کتاب، شاید مطلوبِ عامه یِ کتابخوان های کم حوصله نباشد. مُضاف بَر این، باید در نظر داشت که تاملی در ریشه یِ لغات در زبان های باستان، آنهم در لابلایِ داستانی روزمره بعلاوه یِ 1001 بار اشاره به اسامیِ خاصِ نروژی، سختی و روانی یِ فهم موقعیت ها را از داستان می گیرد و یکجور مرموزیتِ فلسفی بِدان می بخشد. جالب اینجاست که عناصری چونان شخصیت خیالی، نامه، جدالِ وحدت و ثنویت در این داستان هم دقیقاََ بِمانندّ "دنیای سوفی " و "دختر پرتقالی"، از ابزارهایِ روایتِ نویسنده محسوب می شوند

Mind blowiiiingggg...! Kesannya susah sekali diungkapkan, meskipun rasanya banyak sekali yang ingin saya ulas dari buku ini. Kasihan sama Jakop >_< Dari awal "mengerti" tentang kemunculan Pelle pun, rasanya aku tahu sekali seperti apa... (mengingat beberapa tahun belakangan saya pun seorang dalang alias Puppet Master dalam suatu "alam semesta" di suatu tempat dalam kesunyian malam #halah)

Catatan: Mungkin akan spoiler, karena saya tidak tahu harus menuliskan apa selain kesedihan Jakop yang menyayat hati itu (dan itu termasuk bagian yang mungkin bakal spoiler dalam kisah ini).
Jakop adalah seorang pria yang bisa dikatakan kesepian. Dalam sepinya, dia memiliki teman bernama Pelle. Dia juga memiliki kebiasaan unik mengikuti prosesi pemakaman. Kebiasaan itu bermula dari kegiatan isengnya untuk menghadiri pemakaman yang diumumkan di surat kabar. Betapa dia menikmati atmosfer berkumpulnya keluarga besar saat adanya kematian. Orang yang akan mengenang mendiang, banyak yang datang memberikan penghormatan. Semua itu tidaklah didapatkan Jakop dalam hidupnya. Dia lahir dan dibesarkan oleh seorang ibu, dengan ayah yang hanya datang sesekali. Pergunjingan orang-orang di desanya berlangsung lama. Tidak hanya seputar ayahnya dan status perkawinan ibunya yang tidak jelas itu. Saat kecil, Jakop suka bermonolog dengan Pelle, yang adalah sebuah boneka tangan. Dengan Pelle, Jakob bisa mengeluarkan isi hatinya yang tak bisa dilisankan olehnya sendiri. Saat remaja, dua orang gadis menangkap basah dirinya yang sedang ngomong dengan boneka, dan berita itu tersebar luas hingga Jakop harus menahan diri dari upaya pembullyan terhadapnya.
Namun, Jakop hidup dengan pembuktian bahwa dirinya akan sukses. Dia menjadi seorang guru dengan minat yang besar terhadap hubungan kekerabatan antara suatu kata dari berbagai bahasa. Minatnya berkembang sejalan dengan risetnya terhadap orang-orang yang ditakziyahinya. Jakop perlu mengaitkan dirinya dengan mendiang, makanya dia perlu memiliki hubungan yang bisa dikarangnya terhadap orang tersebut. Dia juga membuat dokumentasi atau semacam arsip pribadi tentang orang-orang yang dikunjunginya, yang dia dapatkan dari iklan koran. Jakop meletakkan potongan koran itu di dalam kotak cerutu yang disimpannya di lemari kamar.
Jakop pernah menikah, hanya saja pernikahannya tidak berlangsung lama. Sang istri tidak dapat menerima perilaku Jakop yang tidak biasa. Pada akhirnya, Jakop kembali sendiri dan menjalani kebiasaannya berdialog dengan Pelle dan menghadiri pemakaman. Jakop sudah menyiapkan argumentasi andai saja ada yang bertanya tentang hubungannya dengan sang mendiang. Hanya saja, epandai-pandainya tupai melompat, ada kalanya tergelincir juga. Jakop terpaksa menelan pil pahit kebohongannya saat Agnes, adik bungsu salah satu orang meninggal yang ditakiziyahinya membongkar kebohongan itu. Ada satu fakta yang luput dari perhatian Jakop yang tak dapat dielakkan dari kisah fiktifnya itu.
Kepada Agnes, Jakop menuliskan surat panjang tentang kisah hidupnya, rahasia kelamnya, dan kebiasaan unik Jakop saat menghadiri pemakaman demi pemakaman dalam hidupnya.

Seperti halnya ciri khas tulisan Gaarder, di sini saya menemukan konsep surat seperti yang muncul pada beberapa judul novel sebelumnya, seperti pada Perpustakaan Ajaib Bibbi Bokken atau Gadis Jeruk. Saya juga masih merasakan keprihatinan mendalam Gaarder pada kerusakan lingkungan, yang masih muncul meskipun sekilas di buku ini. (Tema itu menjadi perhatian Gaarder pada novelnya yang berjudul Dunia Anna yang menceritakan tentang pemanasan global, juga pada Maya.)
Menyenangkan rasanya, mengikuti tulisan Gaarder lintas waktu, dari mulai membaca novelnya yang bersetting 1998 (era sebelum milenium), hingga masa sekarang di mana tokohnya menggunakan Instagram. Menyimak dongeng filsafatnya yang indah sejak Gadis Jeruk hingga The Puppeteer. Saya senang dengan bukunya, merangkai banyak sekali makna dan pengetahuan baru. Menggugah naluri, tak jarang mengubah cara pandang dan persepsi. Apalagi, dalam buku ini, mengangkat tema tentang seorang "dalang", atau "penggerak" cerita. Sebuah tema yang sangat dekat dengan saya pribadi. Beberapa tahun terakhir, saya adalah seorang Puppet Master, alias penggerak suatu karakter dalam dunia role-playing. Meskipun berbeda dengan permainan yang dilakoni Jakop dan Pelle Skrindo, tapi esensi dunia role-playing tetap sama. Seseorang (di dunia nyata) memberikan jiwa, pikiran, dan hatinya pada sebentuk benda mati. Tak jarang, tokoh fiksi itu menggerogoti bahkan merusak kehidupan nyata si dalang atau si penggerak. Hanya saja, dalam kesendiriannya yang memilukan, Jakop terjerumus dalam dunia yang dikarangnya terlalu dalam, hingga ia bahkan mengorbankan kehidupan nyatanya. Dalam sekali buku ini berpengaruh bagi saya.
Kenapa tidak bintang lima seperti kebanyakan buku Gaarder lainnya? Ada sedikit kebingungan memahami permainan Jakop dan kegemarannya dalam mengaitkan "keluarga" makna sebuah kata, di mana, barangkali, akan sangat menyenangkan jika saya bisa memahaminya dalam bahasa ibu Gaarder. Saya angkat topi dengan kemampuan penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan naskah ini. Pasti sulit, mengingat kontennya menurut saya kurang "bersahabat" dengan bahasa lokal atau bahasa yang menjadi terjemahannya. Namun, meskipun kesulitan dan kebingungan, saya masih dapat menangkap makna dan maksud dari apa yang disampaikan Gaarder pada tokohnya.

I really liked this short novel about loneliness, deception and mental illness. It was one of the best characters studies I’ve ever read and the unfolding of the protagonist’s secrets and identity was masterful. Dealing, as it does, with etymology, it will really appeal to those of us who love language.
Honestly, it would have been a five star read if it wasn’t so painfully dry in places.

Von Jostein Gaarder kannte ich bisher nur „Sophies Welt“ und „Das Kartengeheimnis“, in denen er jeweils Kindern oder Jugendliche an die Philosphie heranführen bzw. dazu anregen möchte, die gewohnten Denkwege zu verlassen.
Dieses Buch richtet sich an Erwachsene, hat einen ungewöhnlichen, aber keinen absurden Plot und war für mich eine literarische Überraschung. Der Erzähler, Jakop Jacobsen, ein Sprachwissenschaftler, der sich mit Sprachfamilien und der Herkunft der Wörter beschäftigt, versucht in Briefen einer Frau namens Agnes seine Handlungen zu erklären. Er ist häufig auf Beerdigungen anzutreffen und begegnet dort wiederholt Personen aus der Familie dieser Frau. Bei den anschließenden Einladungen erzählt er, woher er die gestorbene Person kannte und was sie verband. Gekonnt flicht er seine Sprach- und Religionstheorien in die Unterhaltungen ein.
Es ist ein leises Buch, das sich mit Themen wie Einsamkeit, Außenseitertum, Identitätsfindung, dem Bedürfnis nach Zugehörigkeit und mit der Macht der Fantasie beschäftigt. Außerdem ist es eine zarte Liebesgeschichte und hat ganz nebenbei überraschende Ergebnisse der Sprachforschung parat. Ich mochte den Sprachstil, der unprätentiös und tiefgründig daher kommt und nachdenklich macht, eine Portion Witz und Selbstironie ist auch noch beigefügt. Letztendlich ist es eine Anregung, die Menschen in unserer Umgebung bewusster wahrzunehmen.

It seems to me that the readers who have left less than favourable reviews are approaching this book (and many others by Gaarder) from the wrong context.
He doesn’t write for the same reasons as the majority of ‘novelists’; and, though his books don’t form a ‘series’ as such, they are, nonetheless, deeply connected to one another. As Jostein himself makes explicit by reusing certain significant phrases throughout his canon of writing. But I’m learning, slowly and surely, I hope.
Gaarder doesn’t just reveal ‘his’ truths; he writes about universal human truths - things like: we have a responsibility not to destroy our planet; how much wonder and magic there is in the world are ultimately our own responsibility too - only we can choose what we see of what is; fiction (and thus meta-fiction in particular) are absolutely intrinsic to the human condition; the world as we know it; they are the birthplace of ideas - but who are we to say what is truth or fiction - and is there really any real divide?
I am being brief here, as there is simply too much to say. I have heard it said of Kurt Vonnegut, and a few others, that their books should be read as a cannon, rather than purely individual pieces - and the same is true of Gaarder. I think the key to all Gaarder’s work is Maya; though Sophie’s World is essential as a general understanding of what Gaarder is about.
I think An Unreliable Man is a message of hope - Gaarder has spelt it out (in Maya and later in Anna) that we have a cosmic responsibility to the life and health of our planet; but he also speaks to us on a very human and intimate level. Jakop is a very lonely man, as many of us have been at various points in our own lives, he is (perhaps deeply) flawed, he is confused and doesn’t seem to be aware of his part in the drama of the world. But what he does still has meaning, has significance. And he has that rare, brief and beautiful glimpse of eternity on the ferry boat. If the human race lives long enough, we may one day begin to fully understand the wisdom of this author. But even if we can’t right now - we can but try.
Don’t read this book as a ‘novel’ by a great author. It is so much more than that. Please don’t rate and judge it on that. Read it as the latest instalment, the next chapter in the revelations of this great man. This thinker and this writer. I’m sure Gaarder would be the first to deny these accolades, but this isn’t the place for such modesty. His message is important and we need it, don’t ever stop saying what you need to, Gaarder, because we too need to hear it.
On the other hand, I did struggle with this book. And that had nothing to do with the writing style or talent - it is as candid and up front as ever, but I suppose I wasn’t sure that I was in the mood to read something that would force me from being an ‘armchair’ reader, into something that forced me off of the sofa, back to my desk and to try to delve deeper into the meaning of this writer’s philosophy on life, the universe, and everything. It leaves one satisfied on one level, somehow soothed by whatever redemption we can find for Jakop/Jakop as Pelle; but also frustrated with my own brain for only half-seeing what I feel is a knowledge (or wisdom) that to my sub-conscious brain is overwhelmingly obvious, and life-affirming, but that so far I only vaguely grasp with my conscious brain. Gaarder is offering salvation of an ancient but very relevant kind. Just bear this in mind when you read him. I’m not looking to patronise anyone, only to try to help in some way those who may be willing to look with fresh eyes on a book that is not a novel, but something more akin to the vast book that is both simultaneously being written and has been written, of life, the universe, and everything. But us in particular.

Based on the description at the back of the book, I already knew that the main character has mental issues
At first I overwhelmed by emotions from the prologue, it got me excited!! But I got bored when I reached the middle of this book, too much unnecessary detail to be told. But I was curious and this book discusses a lot about etymology so I kept going.
I have a wild idea that actually Jacob was naturally an extrovert but grew up lonely and outcasted from his social environment that resulted him to be an impulsive liar.
He craved love from family that he couldn't had, he's always lying just so he can feel the warmth of family, the love, the connection that deprived from him.
Once again, this book is reminder that family is really important to build someone mentality

Úprimne, neodpadla som z toho a na základe nadšených reakcií na IG som čakala trochu viac. Z kategórie "neurazí, nenadchne," ale som rada, že som vytrvala v čítaní, lebo druhá časť ma bavila viac. Hneď ako sa na scéne objavil Pelle, chcela som vedieť ako sa príbeh zavŕši.

Još jedna Gorderova wtf knjiga. Prečudna, bizarna kompilacija svega postojećeg, a opet nekako dobro uklopljena.
Kroz glavni lik Jakopa, srednjovječnog usamljenika, maničnog posjetioca sahrana nepoznatih ljudi i ljubitelja indoevropske etimologije, kome je između ostalog jedini prijatelj lutka rukavica (?) koja, što se njega tiče, ima poseban život, na širem planu, kroz Jakopovu samoću, oslikava teoriju da su svi ljudi, zapravo samo - ljudi i da smo pod kapom nebeskom svi isti.
Glavni lik je ponekad beskrajno iritantan, neki djelovi su pomalo predvidivi i na kraju nemaš pojma šta je od svega ispričanog istina a šta ne, ali to je i Gorderova čar- što te iznervira, uplate u svoje bizarne svjetove, i na neko vrijeme potpuno ubije želju za čitanjem bilo čega drugog. Bábkar je skvelá postava: na začiatku jemne weird, no keď sa prejaví to, aký je v skutočnosti, atmosféra sa zmení - ešte viac weird, ešte viac ľudský. Hlavná postava bojuje s osamením: náhradu kontaktov a vlastne aj kvalitných medziľudských vzťahov hľadá netradične: na pohreboch. Bábkar je aj milovníkom slov, rozprávkár. Slová sú jeho rodina, rodina, ktorú neustále niekde hľadá. Koniec je prekvapivý najmä... ehm, nebudem prezrádzať. Krásna a výborne preložená kniha. #trebacitat

October 23, 2017Glavni junak romana „Lutkar“ svoju usamljenost epskih razmera leči na tri načina. Prvo, ide na sahrane nepoznatih ljudi pokušavajući da se makar na kratko vreme oseti delom nečije porodice. Ako ga pitaju u kakvoj je vezi sa pokojnikom on izmišlja fantastične priče u kojima ožalošćenima otkriva mnoge nepoznate detalje iz života preminulog. Drugo, veliki je stručnjak za inodevropsku grupu jezika jer i na taj način želi da se oseti kao deo jedne zaista ogromne porodice. I ne propušta priliku da svojim retkim sagovornicima na primerima porekla raznih reči dokaže kako smo svi mi zajedno deo jedne velike indoevropske (jezičke) porodice. U jednom trenutku kaže: „Srodstvo se može ispratiti šest hiljada godina u prošlost. Samo treba biti pažljiv.“ Postoji i treći način, ali ne bih želeo da otkrijem ovu caku jer bih time pokvario užitak čitanja ovog zaista sjajnog dela.

I really like Sophie's World and some other books by Jostein Gaarder but this one was something totally different (which was to be expected from the synopsis).
Jakop is a lonely man who attends funerals of strangers. He always comes up with a story about how he knew the deceased person. Oslo is not so big so how long can he do this without being exposed as a fraud? But he just likes to be part of a family for a while.
He's also a linguist and enjoys etymology a lot. He feels like a part of the Indo-European language family, which was a sweet thought. Strangely, I didn't enjoy the linguistic parts that much, maybe because they were a reminder of some classes I didn't like at college. For people without any linguistic background, it can be either fascinating or boring, I have no idea. There are also philosophic discussions.
The book is clever, contemplative and a bit sad. With a silver lining.

This book is all about loneliness. Jakop is a pathological liar by nurture, so he knits the web of lies for himself. He loves to come on people’s funerals, so he could feel that he has some families even though he doesn’t have any connection with the deceased.
Jostein Gaarder is a master in writing poignant plots with a playful trick along the way. I never guessed that Jakop is a puppeteer, and Master Skrindo is his doll. Even though Jakop used to have a wife, but she cannot soothe his loneliness. This proved how we could choose the wrong lifetime partner caused a lifetime loneliness.
At least Jakop and Agnes would find some peace after that long talks.

Pentru mine a fost o carte duioasă, dureroasă pe alocuri, dar plăcută. Am parcurs romanul de 240 de pagini într-o după-amiază de weekend, lăsându-mă purtată prin ținuturile nordice alături de un personaj simpatic, ce a dus puțin cu Ove a lui Backman, întâmplări și înmormântări care mai de care mai neobișnuite, care la final m-au lăsat cu propriile întrebări legate de sensul vieții și cum îl putem obține.
„A devenit un obicei pentru mine să merg la înmormântări. Prindeam din aer, ca un câine, urma de viață de familie. Pentru că altă viață de familie decât cea pe care mi-o însușeam prin această modalitate și în care mă infiltram pur și simplu, nu aveam.„

Přemýšlím, co o Loutkářovi napsat. Byla to příjemná kniha o tom Norsku (a Oslu), které znám - lidé mají o této zemi často exotické představy, ale ono to tak, alespoň z mé zkušenosti, není. Tak, jak jsem se s Nory bavil, jak na mne zapůsobili a jak mi říkali, že žijí a tráví volný čas - to vše v této knize je.
Přemýšlím, co o Loutkařovi napsat. Nebyla tam žádná severská temnota, bylo to o lidech, o vztazích, o uplynulém mládí a dětství. O tom, jak to někdy vyjde, že lidé žijí osaměle. O procházkách v kopcích a v horách a o dovolené na skandinávských ostrovech.
Přemýšlím, co o Loutkařovi napsat. Vím, že podobný příběh by se nemohl odehrávat v Česku - nám je bližší Spalovač mrtvol a pohřby, které se odehrávají v Loutkářovi jsou možná ne přímo skandinávskou, ale určitě výsostně protestantskou záležitostí.
Přemýšlím o Loutkařovi a říkám si, jaká je škoda, že neměl silnější závěr. Ale jestli mi v paměti uvízne jedna věc, tak že bych se chtěl jednou podívat na Lofoty.

Loutkář je od začátku nekompaktní, vyprávění je krkolomné a postavu, ke které si lze najít nějaký vztah, aby čtenář pohledal. Etymologické vsuvky jsou v knize k uzoufání nudné a podezřívám autora, že se zkrátka rozhodl se svým koníčkem oblažit své čtenáře a okolo toho vystavěl příběh. Loutkář je popisován jako dojemný a provokativní román. Mně dojemný nepřipadl, a provokativní už vůbec ne. Od začátku jsem měla problém se začíst, protože děj neustále přeskakoval od jednoho pohřbu ke druhému, přičemž bylo od začátku jasné, že žádná z historek není pravdivá. Mám velmi ráda Tajemství karet a na Loutkáře jsem se těšila, ale nemohu sdílet nadšené recenze. Kniha mě neoslovila, nudila jsem se u ní a nezanechala ve mně vůbec nic. Příběhy v příběhu nejsou uvěřitelné (např. román na stěnách napsaný rtěnkou) a i ty vymyšlené jsou idealisticky přetažené. Pro mnohé bude Loutkář velkým jinotajem, ale pro mě zkrátka ne zrovna podařeným románem.

In the case of Jakob, the telling of his tale is cleverly laid out via his own writing and the recalling of events pieced together for the benefit of one other.

Gaarder mě baví. Lingvistika mě taky baví. Dokážu si představit, že kdo nemá slovům, jejich příbuznosti a etymologii otevřené srdce a mysl, nemusí k němu promlouvat ani Loutkář. Leč ke mně ano. Koneckonců spodní proudy nejsou jen slova a jsou silné dostatečně.

داستانی باور پذیر و منو همراه خودش کرد و با اینکه من ی خلاصه ای از کتاب خونده بودم ، بازم تو قسمت مهم کتاب هیجان زده و غافلگیر شدم کاملا

Jacopov svet sú slová. Rozumie im, miluje ich, sú jeho priatelia, jeho rodina. Rád ich rozoberá, rozpráva o nich a získava si tak nejednu známosť (nie milostnú). Je škoda, že sa s toľkými musí rozlúčiť a o ich spoločných zážitkoch a debatách môže rozprávať už iba na ich pohreboch.

Hoci Jostein Gaarder rozvíja svoje/Jacopove rozprávanie pomalým tempom, hoci vás jeho postava bude niekedy trochu otravovať večnými etymologickými vsuvkami (alebo vás, naopak, nimi nesmierne obohatí a budete sa na ne tešiť), táto kniha je ukážkou obrovského rozhľadu a obrovskej osamelosti. Pán Gaarder vás zavedie do sveta, kde viete pomenovať, rozanalyzovať a vysvetliť všetko, ale napriek tomu ste v istom zmysle chudobnejší ako nejeden hlupák. Aj to je jeden z fascinujúcich aspektov Bábkara, ktorý vás chytí a bude vás držať vo svojom príbehu a vašej hlave, pretože neustále budete premýšľať. Príbehy v príbehu, veľká túžba spojená so zvláštnou veľkou neschopnosťou, veľké úvahy a myšlienky a napokon aj veľké pochopenie. Nielen vo vás.

Jedna z najzvláštnejších a zvláštne najfascinujúcejších kníh v mojej knižnici bola fantastická. Jostein Gaarder dokazuje, že dokáže aj pomalým tempom a s nezvyčajnými postavami zahrať famózne divadlo. Doslova.
Jacopov svet sú slová. Rozumie im, miluje ich, sú jeho priatelia, jeho rodina. Rád ich rozoberá, rozpráva o nich a získava si tak nejednu známosť (nie milostnú). Je škoda, že sa s toľkými musí rozlúčiť a o ich spoločných zážitkoch a debatách môže rozprávať už iba na ich pohreboch.
Alebo je to všetko inak…?

Hoci Jostein Gaarder rozvíja svoje/Jacopove rozprávanie pomalým tempom, hoci vás jeho postava bude niekedy trochu otravovať večnými etymologickými vsuvkami (alebo vás, naopak, nimi nesmierne obohatí a budete sa na ne tešiť), táto kniha je ukážkou obrovského rozhľadu a obrovskej osamelosti. Pán Gaarder vás zavedie do sveta, kde viete pomenovať, rozanalyzovať a vysvetliť všetko, ale napriek tomu ste v istom zmysle chudobnejší ako nejeden hlupák. Aj to je jeden z fascinujúcich aspektov Bábkara, ktorý vás chytí a bude vás držať vo svojom príbehu a vašej hlave, pretože neustále budete premýšľať. Príbehy v príbehu, veľká túžba spojená so zvláštnou veľkou neschopnosťou, veľké úvahy a myšlienky a napokon aj veľké pochopenie. Nielen vo vás.
“Reidun a ja sme žili v niečom, čomu sa hovorí osamelosť vo dvojici, čo je zvyčajne iba iný druh samoty. Osamelosť môže pre toho, kto má k nej sklon, predstavovať veľkú prázdnotu. Podľa mňa je však prijateľnejšia ako osamelosť vo dvojici. Keď človek žije sám, môže si aspoň robiť, čo chce."

Cerita yg benar2 menguji kesabaran pembacanya (baca: saia). Beratus halaman terlewati tanpa tahu sebenarnya mau dibawa ke mana sih kisah ini. Jakop Jacobsen adalah perwujudan kegalauan paruh baya, kesepian, post perceraian, funeral crasher + compulsive liar, dan semuanya diaduk sampai keruh. Tidak heran tokoh ini memiliki alter ego berupa boneka tangan yg dinamainya Pelle Skrindo. Saking terisolirnya pribadi ini, hingga terkadang ia sendiri tertukar antara ego Jakob dengan id Pelle.
Baru pada bagian paling terakhir buku ini tujuan aslinya dibuka. Pencarian makna sahabat dan cinta dan kesendirian. Cukup manis sebenarnya. Hanya saja ya ituuu, lambaat dan keruh sepanjang jalan. Satu2nya yg membuatku bertahan adalah uraian2 menarik ttg asal kata-kata rumpun Indo-Germain, dan perkembangan dalam anak2 bahasanya, dari bhs sansekerta, romawi, inggris hingga bahasa2 skandinavia. #TIL
Biasanya aku cukup tahan membaca kisah yg menghanyut pelan, dan novel2 Gaarder sblm ini jg kunikmati baik2 sj, entah knp yg ini syusyaaah sekali rasanya. Mungkin krn ceritanya kental sekali aura kesepiannya.

Hhhhmmm.Sebenarnya saya penggemar novel opa Gaarder. Termasuk yg satu ini. Gaya narasi berkirim surat bukan hal baru dalam novel beliau. Sang protagonis menuliskan kisah hidupnya pada kita, pembaca. Tapi protagonis novel ini bikin kesal. Kebiasaannya menghadiri pemakaman orang yang bahkan tidak dikenal selama hidupnya. Aneh dan absurd. Kebohongan yang ia buat untuk mengesankan bahwa mendiang merupakan kenalan dekat, benar-benar luar biasa.Luar biasa seperti nyata. Tapi tidak semua kerabat mendiang percaya. Dan akhirnya si tupai jatuh juga.
Menjelang akhir baru saya menangkap maksud cerita ini. Kemampuan Jakop menjadi orang lain, kesendiriannya, rasa rindunya yang besar akan kehadiran keluarga. Benar-benar membuatku tercenung. Inilah pesan yang akan disampaikan oleh penulis. Kita butuh seseorang untuk mengisi ruang kosong di hati sanubari kita.
Novel ini membuat saya masih memikirkan pesan dan makna yang terkandung dalam ceritanya. Dari rasa sebal menjadi simpati pada Jakop dan Pelle.

It's not my favourite from Jostein Gaarder - who is my favourite author. The book didn't really get my attention before page 100, where it turned from an ok story to an in deapth story of an interesting individual. A nice read.

Ini novel luar biasa. Saya yang nggak suka filsafat bisa jatuh cinta dengan Jostein Gaarder. Apalagi yang bisa saya ungkapkan selain, "Bawakan semua koleksi Jostein Gaarder. Akan kupenuhi feeds bookstagram dan goodreds dengan review!"

Prva i zasad jedina knjiga Gorderova koja mi je bila na trenutke neverovatno dosadna. Tematika i tok priče odlični, likovi dobro predstavljeni, posebno lik Jakopa, ali delovi o istoriji jezika i etimologiji toliko dosadni da je svaki udžbenik zanimljiviji od tih pasusa.
