The Color of a Promise

Rate this book
Having spent a lifetime in competition with his older brother Aaron—who always seemed to get the girl—Jack Peterson leaves the U.S. to become a foreign correspondent in the Middle East. When a roadside bomb forces him to return home to recover from his wounds, he quickly becomes the most celebrated journalist on television, and is awarded his own prime time news program. Now, wealthy and successful beyond his wildest dreams, Jack believes he has finally found where he is meant to be. But when a commercial airliner explodes in the sky over his summer house in Cape Elizabeth, all hell breaks loose as the wreckage crashes to the ground. He has no idea that his life is about to take another astonishing turn…

Meg Andrews grew up with a fear of flying, but when it meant she wouldn’t be able to visit her boyfriend on the opposite side of the country, she confronted her fear head-on and earned her pilot’s license. Now, a decade later, she is a respected airline crash investigator, passionate about her work to the point of obsession. When she arrives in the picturesque seaside community of Cape Elizabeth to investigate a massive airline disaster, she meets the famous and charismatic Jack Peterson, who has his own personal fascination with plane crashes.

As the investigation intensifies, Meg and Jack feel a powerful, inexplicable connection to each other. Soon, they realize that the truth behind the crash—and the mystery of their connection—can only be discovered through the strength of the human spirit, the timeless bonds of family, and the gift of second chances.

5⭐️. Julianne Maclean has written another page turner. The Color of a Promise is my new favourite in The Color of Heaven series. I love the cover, as it is so beautiful!

This is the perfect novel to take to your special reading place, be it the beach, sun deck or cozy reading chair. It has action, suspense and romance expertly woven together to tell a spectacular story about handsome Jack Peterson.

This novel had me hooked from page one. There were twists and turns throughout the story and I didn't want to put down the book until I had finished it.

Julianne MacLean masterfully writes an intriguing and thought provoking story, paying particular attention to details and descriptions of the settings and development of the characters and plot.

I felt like I knew ambitious, determined, intelligent, likeable, passionate and dedicated workaholics Jack Peterson (famous CNN reporter) and Meg Andrews (airline crash investigator) and could easily pick them out in a crowd. I really enjoyed reading The Color of a Promise.

Thank you, Julianne MacLean for writing The Color of a Promise and providing me with an advanced eBook copy in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my goddd

Could the author use the word “soulful” just one more time?! I literally dare her to fit it in. I’m “soulfully” requesting it. From a past life.

The Color of a Promise (The Color of Heaven Series Book 11)

The story of Jack and Meg. Meg's story start with her days at college and her first love, the mistakes she made and how she got out of them, and her career path. Jack's story start with his time in Afghanistan and his working his way back from his injuries. They meet and a love story begins. A little slow but ok.

A feel-good romance with a twist. Jack, a CNN News anchor witnesses a plane crash near his parents' home. Meg, an investigator for the NTSB, is assigned to determine why the plane crashed. Instant attraction! But the question is . . . . A fast read.

When he was around five years old, Jack Peterson confessed a secret to his older brother Aaron, and it caused a rift that determined the path Jack’s life would take. Aaron was the golden boy, athletic, popular, the one who always got the girls, even those Jack fancied. Aaron went on to become a rich, successful businessman, and he married the girl Jack loved. Jack never got over his resentment and buried himself in his career as a respected and very wealthy TV journalist. Jack’s life was a desert, until a catastrophic plane crash, very close to his parents’ summer home gave him a glimmer of hope in the person of Meg Andrews.

THE COLOR OF A PROMISE is a bit of a difficult book to review without giving any spoilers. At first, I wasn’t really sure what to make of the various points of view, from 1984 to the present, but I knew the author had a good reason for doing so, but it was nevertheless riveting. I soon realised that it was an essential component of the story to better understand Jack, and the proof is that I read THE COLOR OF A PROMISE in one sitting, before I even realised it was a longish book.
Ms. MacLean writes beautifully, the narrative flows very smoothly, and she is a very efficient and careful writer: there is not one superfluous word, everything is there for a purpose. The story is quite complex, meticulously plotted, and extremely well researched especially regarding the plane crash investigation, which is as captivating as the relationship between Jack and Meg, and the changes Jack undergoes. Jack is a fascinating character, but it is in relation to others that we really see him, as to Meg, I absolutely adored her, past and present incarnations. She is not without fault, but she is a perfect heroine.

Ms. MacLean’s knowledge of so many plane-related elements is staggering, I loved how the story progressed, how everything fit together, and how very real the characters were; I felt invested in their lives. THE COLOR OF A PROMISE is an excellent read, intelligent, and with a lot of heart. I would maybe however caution that it may not be ideal for people with a fear of flying.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Didn’t care for the theme. It was a little far fetched for me. I liked the series until the focus shifted around book 8 or so. The latter books in the series were hard to conceptualize and not as appealing as the first few books in the series.

Boring!

I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone. It’s terribly predictable and formulaic. Don’t waste your time on this book or others by this author.

It is a well-written book but I just couldn't get past the reincarnation plot. The idea that a self only has a kind of accidental connection to a specific body doesn't work for me.

Review:

This book has a real positive feel to it with a bit of spiritual touch. The story is skillfully created before the actual story begins the background of each of the characters is explained in great detail. The plot flows well with the right amount of intrigue a bit of mystique and a few twists and turns. The characters are interesting; they show real personality trades such as determination, passion, intelligence and dedication.

This book is part of the Color of Heaven series but each book can be read as on is own.

Overall:

This is a nicely written positive story thought provoking at times with a few twists and turns. The characters are interesting and realistic. The story flows well is easy to follow and captivating.

I didn't have the heart to give this two stars, but wish there was an option for a 2.5. I had tried reading a few books from this series in the past and hoped the formula had improved. As before, I found that I was skimming sections to try to find something with more depth. This is a series for someone who doesn't want to concentrate on a story, much like the soap operas my mom used to watch in the 60s; miss a few days or weeks and catch up in one episode. It is not that I am a very intellectual absorber of great literature, but after reading 150+ books a year, I know what I want and need and unfortunately this is not it.

This was a great read. Sad in some parts but hopefully it was all fiction in regards to the plane explosion. I really loved jack & sorry it took him so long to become a mature adult. Live in the moment & appreciate what you have. It also made me realize how hard it must be to do the job of reconstruction for such events. The people that dedicate their lives to find peace or answers for such tragic events. Loved Meg & her passion but to find answers but what a job. Great story all the around.

Jack Peterson has struggled with his relationship with his brother, always being in competition and his brother usually being the winner. But over time Jack has had his own successes, now being a well-known reporter with CNN. Meg Andrews is an NTSB investigator and meets Jack when a plane crashes in Maine, parts of it landing in Jack's parent's yard. I like how this series deals with relationships and the weird way things happen to put us into a path we never expected. This particular books touches on past lives, which is interesting to me.

fascinating

I loved this story just as I have all the books in The Color of Heaven series. Sometimes I wish the author would write in a more chronological manner; I tend to get a little confused especially on characters names. But at least I get the back drift of her stories. I love the afterlife and previous life theme in this book. That is something I find intriguing. It’s a good backdrop for love stories. I do wish the story had continued a little longer into Jack and Megs coming together. In fact I wish it had ended differently. But it’s a great story.

This is the story of Jack and Meg. It delves into their growing up and how that had affected the way they interact with others and how they chose potential mates. Very powerful storyline takes you through each of their lives and is written so you can compare how it affected each of them. The impact of major events is gone into in depth and you are left feeling quite deeply about the events yourself. I love the writing and really enjoyed the storylines. Great love story and very realistic.

I think this is the best ebook I've ever read.

Very well written. It was most interesting to read about how a crashed airplane is evaluated. I was never aware of all that went into this horrifying process.
I am also a believer in reincarnation and !oved the way it was woven into the story.
The characters could have been real people. Nothing struck me as contrived. I would
I'm recommend this book in a heartbeat. Thank you for an enlightening and interesting story.

This is not a four star book. Although it was less confusing than "The Color of Forever," possibly because I read that first, there was so much foreshadowing that you knew what and who way before it happened. But then, the ending was a quick wrap up as though the author was tired of the book and just needed it to end. If you're going to tell us the story of Jack and Meg, tell us the story, and don't just leave it to our imagination. It was a good storyline with a cheap ending.

Jack has taken on reckless commissions ever since he found that life has the same repeating pattern, and his brother and rival over lifetimes still wins his love. But after a near death experience and recovery, he is determined to turn on a new leaf. Meeting Meg seems to be predestined as well as they are thrown together at an aircraft disaster. It is probably something that was meant to be, as as Katelyn tells him, time to start something new.

Good Read

I am not this author's targeted audience, but I recognize good writing mechanics when I see them. There was a little de ja vue and some reincarnation going on. The main characters were likeable and decent. There was a lot of love but no prescient acts or words, thank you dear author.

An airplane crash brought the protagonists together. They exuded good feelings that spilled over to me, the reader.

Thank you, Ms. MacLean, for a good read.

Having read most of these in the series, and they touch on subject, that cause one to stop and ponder. Life is precious, the memories are golden.
Reincarnation, a subject not very often mentioned, and this author has done a beautiful job, with stories. Can be read in any order, though I did from the beginning, they are stories you do remember having read.

A crash that brought love

This was a very different and enjoyable book. The author brought you into the story and you felt like you were right there. It was about 2 plane crashes and the hard part of what caused them to crash and lives lost. A wonderful and heart felt book. Was hard to put down.

I liked this book better than the last 2. I liked Meg and Jack and how they built the characters. They were likeable and interesting. Again not into reincarnation and lucid dreaming but that’s where these stories have ventured off. I can’t help but finish the series. The ending was a bit abrupt and missed the epilogue

Incredible storytelling!

This may be my favorite in this series! To be on the 11th book in a series and only be disappointed with one book so far is incredible. I love this author and look forward to reading more of her work.

Amazing!

Again I praise the story line, characters, twist and turns in the most stirring book series I have ever read. I only have two more books left and a part of me is saddened to see it come to an end. Looking forward to don't on.

It was interesting, sad in some parts, but a good read. Of course there is love and feelings of knowing someone from the past. Brothers trying to work things out, everyday things in a fast paced work enviroment, whether from reporting the news to crash investigations.

Another page turner

Following on from the last novel, this explores Jack’s destiny and emergence from his obsession with his past life experiences. Can he bury the hatchet with Aaron and find happiness in this life?
