This is an excellent up-to-date resource which gives informative details on a variety of mental health conditions. The book also gives very practical ideas on what to do and be alert for when helping ill people and scripts of what to say or not say. The title states it is a great tool for first responders, however would be of great value for family members, carers and other health professionals too.
As a nurse that doesn't like to deal with mental health patients I found this to be a wonderful reference to keep with me. It helps in easy to understand layman's terms to prepare you for the mental health emergencies that as an ICU/ER nurse I run into on a daily basis. I would also recommend it for people dealing with mental health crises in your family.
This book is a handy reference written in layman’s language with the intent to help anyone who works with the public have a handle on situations that are bound to affect all of us if we live long enough. Easy to comprehend, humbly explained and carefully thought out.
As a manual for those not experienced in mental illness it provides a decent primer. Perfect from someone who is an EMS member or someone beginning to learn about mental illness. Not formatted terribly well for Kindle.
