ADRIENNE WOODS YOU WONDERFUL, AMAZING HUMAN BEING. How the hell are you not a best selling author yet?!
This book was one of my most anticipated books on the year. Woods is one of my top favorite authors, and this series is just fantastic. The way things left off in the last book left me hanging for well over a year, since I got the first one as an ARC months before it came out. And then Adrienne's computer decided to shut off and delete everything after the book was almost finished, and it just ruined me, so I can't even imagine what it did to her....
Anyways, it was so nice seeing Chas again! I feel like she really did some growing in this book, especially the last half. She grew up and did what she needed to do to save her mom, and I love that. And so many plot twists in this book! So much information that we needed to know so much back story that we didn't know much about, learning about the Oblivion. My mind was whirling the whole time! Chas really is such a special person, and we saw that in this book with all the new things she can do.
The whole Ash and Leigh thing was crazy, and I was DYING. I cannot believe the ending with Leigh, my heart was beating so fast and I was happy crying at it. So many emotions! Mr. Grey was also freaking awesome in this book! He showed what a great cat he was, and how much he can truly do. Selene can go to hell! God, I can't believe her. Absolutely disgusting garbage.
Seeing how dreams are made was also freaking awesome. Woods did a great job world building in that scene, and making you feel like you were there. It made me want to see it in real life, and sad because I will never be able to..
I can't even say anymore without spoiling the whole book, but I truly adore Adrienne Woods and all of her books. You can really see her growing as each one goes by. Can't wait for the next one, I will be dying waiting!

I don't know if it was because I was in a bad mood but honestly I didn't enjoy this book. People say that when you feel something with a book, it's because the book is a good one. Well, I would have to disagree, I started to be upset and annoyed like at 20% of the book and believe me, it didn't stop until I finished it.

I feel disappointed because the author could've made so much with this concept, but she didn't. Also, when it comes to the characters I didn't get to feel anything for them, because somehow the author managed to make me feel nothing for them in this book (I didn't even get to see Mr. Grey that much), well, except irritation towards Chastity and her idiotic behavior, and I'm going to explain why.

I'm going to summarize in a few words:
- She was confusing, she never decided on anything and had so many mixed opinions.
- She was racist.
- She somehow couldn't form an opinion on her own.
- She was so easily swayed by other people's opinions (ex.: Selene). Even though she said she had trust issues, like she had been saying that since the first book.
- She was of the cheating sort (Leigh + Ashton). I mean I understand she wanted to forget about Leigh but d*mn, she could've been more considerate to Leigh and his BROTHER (yes, his brother).

I don't know, I have disliked characters before but it has been a loooong time since I found someone this annoying.

Being completely honest, I don't even know where the author is going with this story and I think she doesn't know either. Also, everything was so predictable and being real I don't get why people like this. And the last thing is, I don't really understand why she had to design Chastity as some sort of overpowered heroine but like wtv.

I think this is the first time that I've written so much for a review but I hated this so much that I had to do it.

Good

Not as great as book one but still a good storyline. Chas has been through so much in these last two books. How does a girl even keep going. I guess I have to wait for book 3 to find out.

This is book two of the Dream Casters series and the main character is Chas (Chastity) Blake, who is hiding a huge secret from everybody around her. Her guardian Fox, made a deal with Shadow Casters and this ended up with a lot of people being killed and Chas having to kill Fox herself. Chas lives amongst the Light Casters and has learnt that the first sign of a Shadow Caster is their inability to see colours. This may be a problem during her waking hours, but during her dreams, she sees colours. She also meets up with Leigh in her dreams and they have gotten very close. The Virtual Realm is in pieces and Leigh has not been heard of by the scientists in charge. On the day they are about to turn off the device, someone hears a faint whisper of a voice and Leigh is finally heard. Her Tula (Anitule) Shades or Mr Grey, is a talking cat, who only she can hear. He is the one who told her he would be found, when she was about to give up.

Chas’ secret is known by Max and Margot, who are twins, due to the events that occurred with the Shadow Casters. Margot has promised that she won’t tell anyone and she made that promise to her twin. That means it can’t be broken unless max is dead. Chas feels wary of Margot and doesn’t believe that she won’t spill her secret to Selene, their Somnium, which is more powerful than even a level four Caster. This is because Margot also likes Leigh and is upset about Leigh’s first message, which was clearly aimed to Chas. Chas has dark sand within her, what is called her Shadow. She is a modern day Sandman, with some Light and some Shadow Caster within her. Shadow Casters are known for their ability to create nightmares and their dark dreams. If she is found out or caught having dark sand, then she will be sent to Oblivion, a place all Shadow Casters are banished to and where only darkness exists.

After Max is taken, Selene the Somnium, takes Margot and throws a spell on all the other girls, leaving them ill for a number of weeks. Both Max and Margot have disappeared and everyone else seems to be hiding what has happened to them, as others have had their memories wiped. Leigh seems to know a bit of what has happened and gives her clues on what to do to recover. Trying to keep the secret and stop darkness from becoming her true nature, as well as keeping her mother safe, will lead to a deal with her grandfather. A man she never really knew about and is the epitome of a Shadow Caster. Evil beyond belief and responsible for many Light Caster deaths.

An interesting look at different worlds and the differences perceived between Light and Shadow Casters. Some are only after power and that can be from people on either side. Chas is a strong character and has a lot of problems and events in her life so far, to overcome. She has come through so much and managed to survive, now she just has yet more hurdles to overcome and to come out alive and not taken too far to one side or another. The life-long battle between good and evil, light and dark, is one all of us have to fight. There is a lot going on in this book and it will continue on the next book. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Chastity Blake, the daughter of a Light Caster and a Shadow Caster, has discovered that she is a modern-day Sandman. But she has a secret she must keep hidden. The danger for Chastity is that she is actually somewhere in the middle where she contains both the light and the darkness. Shadow Casters are known for their dark dreams, the nightmares they create. If she is caught with dark sand, she may be subjected to harsh interrogation or banished to the Oblivion with the other Shadow Casters. Already her dreams had lost their color. Not being able to see in color was one of the first signs that you were a Shadow Caster. I was lucky that Shades— or Mr. Grey as the Reverians knew him— a talking cat only Chastity could hear, hadn’t died. He would tell her the colors if someone was having a conversation with her, which kept her status hidden. Will she be able to continue hiding her darkness from the most powerful Somnium alive? How long can she maintain her secret before they catch her?

I am still finding this book very difficult to navigate and understand due to the intricate details not coming together for me. But I can see Chastity beginning to change a bit, and the suspense of wondering how long she can keep this up is a good way to hold the reader’s interest.

I am loving this series. I had to go back and reread the first book but let me tell you, Chas is such a great character. She is so complex and knows what she is doing most of the time. She is trying to find her fit in Revera but is constantly on guard that someone will discover her secret. When she is found out, she is tossed to Oblivion where she now has to fend for herself. She meets Ash, a dead ringer for Leigh, and with him and his mom, save a shadow hound. Her mother shows back up and now her grandfather wants to experiment on her. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and the ending had me screaming NO!!!
I can not wait to read the next one.

This is my second time reading this book, I haven’t read it in ages and I’m glad as it was as if I was reading it for the first time again. I love Adrienne Woods books and Shadows was no exception! There were a few parts I had vague memory of but I loved getting to reread this book to get ready for ‘Milieu’. Super excited to find out all the answers to the questions this book has brought in the finale book of the series! Don’t want to spoil so won’t say anything more except this book topped ‘Light’ and I highly recommend to fantasy readers!

Chastity is a Sandman being the daughter of a Light and a Shadow Caster. She has both the light, where sweet dreams are made and the dark, where nightmares are made, within her. Being both is her secret. The first sign of her Shadow Caster is losing the ability to see the colors in a dream. Luckily her cat can see the colors and only she can fear her cat. How long can she keep up the charade? What happens if she’s found out? I enjoyed this story and look forward to the next one. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book continues from book 1 in the series.
I love the world that the author has created with brilliant characters. Chas has been through so much with so much more to come and yet she is strong and just keeps going.
This book will draw you in until the end and it will leave you wanting to read book 3, definitely a series I would recommend.

I loved book 1, and when this one came out I was so excited to revisit the characters. With this being a new take on a species, sand man types, it is a bit confusing at times figuring out the intricacies of the society. Watching Chastity try and navigate and contain her new life was quite engaging and I am looking forward to book 3.

Though it wasn't too obvious, the main character is different, even though she is not aware of it herself. But from an incident, an unexpected thing happened, and she found out the truth about who she really is.

After learning she's a modern day sandman (sandwoman), Chastity soon realizes she also carries dark sand within which can get her banished. Can she keep this secret hidden? Luckily for now she has Mr. Grey a talking cat to help her, for now.

Can't wait to read the next one. Took me a little while to get into it just because it has been years since I read the first and it is a complex story. Read the first if you are getting back into it. Adrienne Woods series are amazing.
