The 16-year-old girl with a complex about her aggressive nature, Taiga, gives a drink to a boy she finds passed out from starvation, but he ends up stealing a kiss under the pretense of feeding mouth-to-mouth. When the new school term begins, that boy, Anri Iseya, is at the new school she transfers to and declares, “I'll be yer pet”…?! This sensual, dangerous mission between a black beast and a strong-willed 16-year-old begins now!
Not sure how I feel about this one, honestly. Taiga is a good heroine who won't take crap from anyone, and I get the distinct impression that there's a lot more going on with Anri than we know...but he's still definitely creepy. I'm also not fond of how his accent is written. I'll give this another volume or two and see how it goes.
+I ship Kurogane and Taiga so much! But I already know that Anri is endgame. I read too many manga and saw too many anime for that. +Taiga's personality/how she was, love it. Haha, it did bring her in some trouble, but I did love that stood up for herself, she reminded me a bit of another Taiga in anime/manga. +Fantastic art! Love love it. That cover is so pretty. -Anri was a dick. Sorry, I didn't like how he acted. He reminded me a bit of Tamaki (early days Tamaki). Not really self-aware, always thinking he is so funny. No. Just no. -While I did like the pet play at times, I still was a bit like, eh because these are 15-17 year olds. It would have worked out better if they were adults.
Probably would have liked it more if I was into pet play, but alas, I am not. I do like how spunky Taiga is though. Very refreshing after a string of recent shy-kindhearted shojo protagonists I've read.
Pretty sure this is going for “hot” but there’s a lot about it that makes me uncomfortable (and I’m not a prude by any stretch). Even if Taiga is a “strong” character, the way Anri forces her into a lot of things like kissing, nearly drowning her, etc, rubs me the wrong way. I also find his accent annoying. I also really hated all the author’s interjections that constantly interrupted the story with meaningless info. The art also creeped me out, and I couldn’t even say why. Though it has its moments, I think I’ll pass on continuing this series.
I’ve decided to review this volume by volume as it’s my absolute favourite. The first volume is such a great intro to the series, the artwork is perfect and the characters are so interesting. The artwork has so many saveable moments and each frame feels so purposeful. Anri is a really interesting character and I can’t wait to see how the characters develop in each volume!
Umm well then right off the bat it’s a lusty sounding title “black panther and sweet sixteen”. This reminds me exactly like a Korean drama called “your my pet” based off the manga. Expect we have a slightly more aggressive female lead who takes on board of having a “pet”willingly. . Eventually. Taiga is exactly like taiga from toradora expect a lot more toned down. She is intimidating to others but unlike taiga from anime, this one is super sweet.
Anri so called “pet” and popular at school knows what he wants and goes for it. But not in a way that annoys me, anri just made me laugh throughout the volume. The dynamic of taiga and anri I definitely like more than In that Korean drama I watched years ago. There is a zesty flavour between anri and taiga that works for the pair and their “odd” relationship at the beginning. I love anri other guy friends especially kurogane, he is just another adorable, kyo from, fruits basket.
This is a zesty title and a premise that not everyone will agree with. But these kind of titles are Indulgences, so far there is no harm in anri and taiga circumstances just anri is a demanding child. I personally liked this first volume it was unexpected to what I Initially thought and has some juicy panels. And no nudity in sight....well yet haha.
I've done it again, I've convinced myself to get into another shoujo manga haha. This one is just really fun. The artist has these ridiculous panels and scenes happen, she plays with what her characters will do for the sake of comedy and so on. It feels like an early 2000's anime and I love it. I also really love when any group of popular boys in a manga like this kind of take in the main character. No one really seems to care for her besides her "pet" but they kind of let her be pulled in besides haha
I like the weird relationship between Taiga and her pet too. They aren't really friends but they can hang around each other well enough. This is one of those stories that makes me worry about the main characters heart though so knowing that these four boys just tug girls around worries me. But you know, that just keeps me reading haha
I bought this volume when it was on sale for 99 cents around Valentine’s Day — and wow, it was something.
Pros: I love the heroine, Taiga, and I actually could see myself rooting for her crush on Kurogane. The art also reminds me a lot of PEACH-PIT’s works for some reason.
Cons: I really dislike Anri, his accent in translation (“yew” instead of “you”), and his manipulative and creepy personality. I do not want him anywhere near Taiga. And the master-pet thing is always so gross to me (I didn’t even like it in Kimi wa Pet/Tramps Like Us — even though that was basically the whole premise!). I just can’t see myself ever rooting for a pairing of Anri and Taiga.
I want to continue with the series despite my misgivings, but I don’t know when that will be...
(This review is more of an overall of what I have read, since it's more than just the first volume, but easier to summarise how I felt into one review rather than as I read them for each book. )
The premise of the story kept me skepticle if I would enjoy it, but honestly, it's not an awful read. I enjoyed the character development and the progress of the story as it went. There are some annoyances with how Taiga reacts or decisions, but I love all the characters. Their quirks are great and the bonds they create are really cute.
Also, the art work, to me is so great. It had me laughing quite a bit too. All in all, it keeps you interested into what happens next, and it never got dull or slow, to me.

So this is an overall review for the whole series....
I'm rather torn on what I actually think about this. Part of me loved it, but another part of me was like, okkkaaay Anri, you have issues please stop.
But, ALSO, it reminded me of Meteor Garden (2018) which is also based (ish) off of Boys Over Flowers. Is it because they were similar or because I'm a little obsessed with that show and now any group of 4 boys is going to remind me of F4? Maybe a little bit of both.
This was a solid series, if we ignore Anri when he has his moments. He had a heart of gold even if he didn't know how to show it.
This is definitely a guilty pleasure read! I loved Taiga's personality. With her take no prisoners attitude, she doesn't give up when things aren't going the way she'd like them. This reminded me of a mixture between "My Little Monster" and "Wolf Girl and Black Prince." Usually, I don't go for the "mean guy" storylines, but this is more of "manipulative guy." It's definitely not going to be everyone's cup of tea.
I thought there was the perfect amount of comedy and drama and I loved the art style--very cute and aesthetically pleasing!
The art is everything! It’s absolutely stunning. The story, on the other hand, is a bit too silly in my opinion, but I definitely see a big potential here. The heroine is strong and independent for once, and actually very relatable. If you aren’t into pet play, though, you probably won’t like this series at all. Should you give the series a chance for the art? Yes, 💯%!!!
It was a little hard to read because they are trying to translate a type of dialect and that just makes him sound Texan. Cutesy story about a girl that is surrounded by guys. Truly a beach read. If you want a palate cleanser after a serious read this is your book. Take it as a guilty pleasure.
It was odd and a bit crazy. No logic in a character asking to be treated as a pet and to be fed. I don't know what to expect because it seems that everything is possible in this shoujo.
