An amusing ensemble cast that plays well off each other, and manages to show collectively that cooperation and communication are the keys to good relations- in marriage and in collectives.
The Heroes may have super powers, but it the advance notice, or the negotiating or cover up skills from their wives that keeps them going and succeeding.
Sweet romances that struggle and usually overcome typical issues between spouses: whose job is moe valued ? How? Who are the true heroes?
My review is honestly and freely given from an advance reader copy.
Wish I could have handed a copy of this to a now very much former fiancée. I think he might have understood the author's portrayal much better than my young words.
Hopefully all superheroes find happiness in their mundane lives, the way these couples seem to try to work hard to do.

I received an ARC of 'The Secret Lives of Superhero Wives' from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I have to say, this is one of the most entertaining books I've read in a while. It made me laugh, it made me angry, it made me (almost) sob in joy...it has it all. It's about three couples: Emma and Estevan (my favorite), Vance and Victoria (the funniest - it was so fun to watch them work through things, and Vance losing his memory was a great plot device, leading to many sweet moments), and finally, last but not least, Ariana and Adam (the newlyweds). I enjoyed how each couple faced different, yet similar, issues. Dealing with wanting a child. Jealousy and lack of communication in a new marriage. Old bitterness. It was really, really great to watch them work through it all, and when the wives all finally met, in the last three chapters or so...BEAUTIFUL. To summarize what I just said: This book had beautiful, recognizable, wonderful character development. It was so, so awesome to see the characters work through their problems, while dealing with the super villain's evil plot!
I thought Ariana was the most frustrating of the wives, but I'm glad she finally dealt with her problems. It was nice to see. Emma's problems were a little sadder, but I loved how things turned out for her, and how entertaining her and Estevan's relationship was - they were the most stable, and Emma's spoon-feeding of plans was cute (he knew what was happening, of course). And Vance and Victoria were great together. It was nice to learn about their past marriage and see them work their way into a new future.
Oh, and I enjoyed seeing the wives kick ass - both behind the scenes, for most of the book, piecing lots of the evil plan together, and at the end, where there was some good old fashioned kick ass action.
My overall thoughts? This book was a riot. It had AMAZING character development, and an entertaining plot. 5 stars.

This was told as three separate stories, which come together at the end of the book. One focused on Ariana, newly married to the superhero The Kite. The second focused on Emma, married to Captain Rapido. She’s a reporter for Action City and has started wanting children. The third focused on Victoria who is divorced from the superhero Icy Tundra. He’s still in her life because they have shared custody of their dog, and he’s devilishly having fun trying to drive a wedge in her current relationship. Emma finds her superhero husband is always in demand by people who need him and doesn’t seem to have much time for her, as in her honeymoon, and even just time around the house, and he has a new female protégé who he is trying to train, bringing on Ariana’s jealously and she finds herself turning to the handsome next-door neighbor. While there are things happening between the three cities, like an earthquake, resulting in villains escaping from prison, and Icy Tundra shows up on Victoria’s doorstep with amnesia and needing her help remembering who he is.
I got the feeling the author doesn’t really understand why we read stories about superheroes. Just that they are popular with all the heroes in the movies these days. I pick up superhero books because I love seeing their powers in action and them relating to other people while balancing those powers, and, of course, the heroics and saving the day. From the cover, I was expecting to get a book with the superhero saving the spouse and falling in love during heroic rescues and battles. That said, this book doesn’t focus on the hero, but on their spouses as they deal with being married to a person always in demand and never at home. I hated Ariana. She came off as needy, bossy, and superficial. I ended up just skipping over all of her chapters after she whined that her husband wasn’t there for their honeymoon, and whined that he left her with the dishes, and laundry, and was never home, and jealous that he was hanging out with another girl (his trainee sidekick Scarlet Macaw), and that he didn’t ever ask her about her day (before their marriage she had taken an attitude of that she didn’t care about his superhero antics either, so she really doesn’t have any room to complain about that). I think what mostly burned me about her, was that she stated that she was mainly thrilled with marrying someone that all the other women wanted, making it sound like she wasn’t actually in love with him, but more of in love with the idea of arm candy. I wasn’t really interested in her day-to-day life as a housewife either. I skipped most of Emma’s chapters as well. Her chapters just bored me. I was annoyed that she seemed to want children for all the wrong reasons, and that never really changed. She stated that she wanted a mini-her following her around. If that doesn’t scream ego, I don’t know what does. Now, Victoria’s chapters, I loved. I loved that it spent time with the hero and her together, trying to reconnect with his past, trying to get his powers to work properly, and with who he was, and her learning to understand him and care about him. I get this is supposed to be empowering of the women behind the powers, but it felt behind the times to focus on housewives, desk jobs, and Lois Lane stereotypes, and to totally marginalize the one female superhero. I was bored by the end section when all three stories came together and just skimmed it. As I said before, I’m looking for superhero stories that use the superpowers. So, the end section had all three of the superheroes getting taken out at the beginning of the confrontation and the wives had to save the day without any powers. And I found myself asking, where was Scarlet Macaw during that entire scene? Why wasn’t she there when they called all of the superheroes together? For future suggestions, I’d really love to see a book focused on Scarlet Macaw. Not on her boyfriend, or husband, or whatever, but on her.

Slow burn
This started soooo slowly. Add to that poor characterisation, and I struggled to keep going. I just couldn't keep track of who was who and who they were married to. For a supposedly humorous book, I didn't laugh once. The only jokes I saw were puns.
It improved towards the end though. I enjoyed the bit where we saw the superheroes and their wives working together. I wish we could have seen more of it and earlier.

Not what I was expecting. I struggled to keep reading throughout the first two-thirds of the book. There were no "secret lives" of our three superhero wives to speak of until the last few pages of the book! A dissappointing turn of events for me as the title - the secret lives - is what attracted me to the book in the first place.
Also, not at all fond of the author's choice of relating the lives of each superhero wife by jumping back and forth between their life stories. The jumping back and forth between sub plots was distracting and annoying.
The author had a good concept for the story with good characters but for me she didn't deliver what was promised - that being The SECRET LIVES Of Superhero Wives.
I'm glad I stayed with the book until the end as the last few chapters were exactly what I was expecting from the book according to its title. You could say the ending was a "Hail Mary" save for me and as such I believe 3 stars an appropriate review.

The Secret Lives Of Superhero Wives is a cozy humorous mystery book that I enjoyed. The book was structured to deliver a story-line easy to engage with, quickly. For the sake of my review, I thought of the book as having three sections, the first, introducing everyone and what they do, Second, let’s have a little get together. And lastly, how’d it all work out for us. And of course there was a little action and adventure from the superheros’ and the wives themselves. At first, I was a little confused with the “let’s get to know each other” section. It took me time to understand what was going on which made the character back and forth a little tedious. Then when you start remembering who is who, what is what, and how they interact with one another the light bulb went on and I said “A Ha”. From then on I was immersed in the book, laughing out loud (I did it) and enjoying being a part of the action. The author, really did a great job deciding how to build the structure of her book. But, she also took a risk. I could have become a little too confused and put the book down, or, kept on reading but disengaged. The dates are what the author chose to use as the structure of the book, and with each date there is more character development, accompanied with dialogue to express the what, why, and how it is needed for the character. And of course, character interaction and situational growth is also aligned with character development. The Secret Lives of Superhero Wives is a great, witty, funny, and romantic book. (Note: "I received a free copy of this book that I voluntarily chose to review and provide my honest feedback." -Tex.

This was definitely an interesting spin to the whole superhero fable.
In this book, we have three women: Ariana, Emma, and Victoria.
Ariana is just starting off in her marriage to a superhero and soon realizes that it wasn’t what she’d thought it would be. Soon, she’s spending her nights alone while wondering if her hubby really is out there saving the world. Or is it just an excuse to get away from her? Or maybe it could have something to do with that new, hot red-headed super heroine that he’s taken under his wing? Could Ariana be competing with another woman for her husband’s attention?
Emma wants to have a child of her own, but is afraid that her superhero husband may not be able to produce with his super seed.
After a bitter divorce, Victoria just wants to forget all about her ex and move on. But how can she when he’s always around? Things take an interesting turn when her superhero gets amnesia and forgets how to control his powers. Now, it’s up to Victoria to help him remember by taking a stroll down memory lane that rekindles an old flame.
My favorite was Victoria and her quest to re-enter the dating scene while dealing with a superhero ex. I loved Capitán Rápido! The Kite was just a funny and lovable doofus.
It was endearing to see the women and their struggles to playing second fiddle. But the reader soon realizes that these women are not exactly “powerless” when it comes to support, and they’ll prove it when they help their husbands save the world in the end.
Three marvelous stories that unite to one epic tale!
Light, airy, and witty! Nice cover illustration, too!

I bought this book for free via FreeBooksy; part of a challenge I was following. 2.5 stars, rounded up.
There was no secret to keep up until the very last 0%-5%. The superheroes do not save their wife; someone else does! 🙄. Many Dad's jokes - I laughed at the dairy one but that was it. Find a new hobby please. There's a newlywed couple and the first thing she does, while prepping for bed, is to change into her PJs 🙃. One guy is a complete slob and his wife keeps picking up after him, while getting more and more enraged. No communication. Another one - might be the same as I got them all mixed-up - passes for an idiot. Another agreed to help a superheroine to balance life and savior-life but doesn't do it himself; how can he help??? I found most of the women pathetic and cheesy; the men were lacking in priorities and communication. Absurd problems in a few towns; the heart attack recovery and the disruption of muscle function were quite unbelievable. They switched the costume but there is no hole in the clean-without-a-trace-of-blood shirt; what did the doctors think of that? There are several loopholes or unfinished business (bakery, train, etc.). Did the SIL help the mayor? I get that it's fantasy, but please make it interesting and believable. The superhero were all a one-man show instead of clicking together and fighting as a group. The ladies could have used the support of the others, while helping out in the background. Missed opportunity.
Editing needs another pass: é/ée, wrong words, singular/plural. The gun flew in the water but somehow, one of the ladies has it pointed at the villain right after.

I received a free copy of the secret lives of the superhero wives in exchange for an honest review.
It's about women who try to live a normal life while married to men with super powers .
Although that their lives are more different compared to a wife with a normal life. they had the same issues ( being ignored, not feeling appreciated, lake of communication...)
3stories, 3 couples, 3 locations they are all connected but the characters don't get to met each other until the last chapters which was annoying for me because I was looking for it since the beginning.
The book was a new experience for me, never did I read a book like that before.
it was freash and interesting. i laught a lot in this one too. It was so cute of the author to make the first letter of the names of the couples the same.
my favorite couple would be Victoria&Vance consider they were divorced but they had much more passionate then the other couples and I was dieing when they became a thing again ( Estevan&Emma look like an old couple and Adrianna &Adam look lost and frustrating)
and for the most corporate couple would be Estevan&Emma .
I enjoyed the book it was my first book I read writing by the author JOYNELL SCHULTZ but it won't be the last .

Spouses for heros!
What a great concept- looking at the support systems of Super Heros and their lives beyond crime fighting.
The plot was pretty good though during the middle it did drag a bit. While I understand the idea behind how the book was written, there was just too many POV's. Almost to the end of the book I didn't care for any of the super heros but especially Adam. They all came across as arrogant self-appreciating men. Throughout the story they did turn it around for the most part. I loved how the women handled but supported the men.
I did enjoy the story but if it had concentrated on the POV'S of two couples instead of four than more detail for each couple could have been included. It just felt that the couples didn't feel a connection to their partners which I don't think was the authors intent. It was just spread to thin in the story. Not every book needs steamy scenes but I think a bit of words giving the intent of intimacy without having to show the intimacy itself would have made the couples seem more connected.
I am glad I read this book, it had been on my TBR for awhile unfortunately I won't be moving on to book 2.
If you like super heros and have ever wondered about their civilian lives this is a good one to try.

A refreshing take on superhero stories. Three couples in which the husband is the one with superpowers are at the heart of the story. One couple is happy, one has been divorced, and one has just gotten married. There is a lot of humor, and a lot of heart. One couple really started to annoy me, but thankfully that didn't last.
The world-building was very good, though it took me a few chapters to be able to easily tell characters apart. The plot was a little simple, but it was good enough to move the story along. There also may have been a few continuity issues, particularly towards the end. I'm hoping those were fixed by the release date.
I really hope there is a sequel to this book somewhere down the line. It would be very nice to re-visit the families and see how things have progressed. And it would be interesting if there were to be a couple or two in which the wife is the superhero and what kinds of challenges that could present. Overall, a very enjoyable story.
I reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I love reading books by Joynell Schultz! I had read the second book first but I actually liked this one better!
I like that the author didn't sugarcoat being a superhero's wife. It's hard work. They don't always have time for you since they are out saving the city.
This has realistic elements to each of the relationships and even though it's fantasy I always appreciate that because it makes it real to us.
Because it is about wives and there relationships with their husbands it isn't squeaky clean but the author did a good job of making it a fade to black,
Content: fade to black and moderate language, it was repeated enough. If it were a movie I'd probably rate it PG-13.
This review is my honest opinion. I did NOT receive a complimentary copy. I bought this/ read it on KU/ got it from the library.

What a Wonderful Book
I loved this Book in fact I love all the Books this Author has Written So far this one about Superheroes and their wifes Is so cute and really can be related to Real life Relationships even though we don't have Super powers like the Characters in this book wifes do have Important Roles in their husbands worlds the Plot was Wonderfully thought out and the characters were Relatable and made you feel you Were actually there in the life of each one that's why I Rated it 5 stars If you like Reading about Superheroes getting the girl and solving the crime you'll Love this book

This is a fun and lighthearted book. I enjoyed the cheesy jokes and some of the lighthearted humor between married couples. It also addresses real issues that that even normal couples must address. It is written in comic book style and Joynell creates her superhero world with that in mind. I would say if you look a little deeper you'll find some excellent marital advice. This was an excellent weekend read.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and this my honest review.

I liked this book very much. It is a quick, fun read about the super women behind their superheroes. Each of the relationships is at a different stage and each relationship has its own challenges due to the extraordinary lives the men lead. I expected the three woman to be friends and the story to be about them but happily, I was very much mistaken. Each couple lives in a different city, unknown to the other couples and this book is about events conspiring to bring them together. It is very well done and I loved how each couple is distinct and very different to the others. I didn't like Victoria and Vance at all at the beginning but it is a testament to Joy's talent and skills (and the fact that I like a bit of strife) that they became my favourite couple. (Emma and Estevan were so sweet (not in a bad way) and Ariana and Adam both needed a "whack upside their heads").
It is not the sort of book I would normally read but I loved Joy's book "Blood and Holy Water", which I highly recommend, so was very willing to read this book. Also in this series are "The Stellar Life Of A Superhero Wife" is available free from Joy's website, featuring a different couple, Devora and Derek, and "The Supernatural Life of a Superhero Wife", about a different couple again, is now available in the "Witch or Treat" anthology. I enjoyed both of these two as well, just right for sitting down with a cup of tea and some chocolate!
I received an ARC but decided to voluntarily write a review and the opinions are my own.

Super Read
Although the book started a bit slowly, I decided to give it a chance and kept reading. I'm so glad I did. The characters are fun and interesting and having the wives of superheroes becoming the main characters was a bit of brilliance. I've been a fan of comic books and have seen and enjoyed the super hero movies, so this book was right up my alley. I would recommend this book, especially if you are a fan of superheroes in any genre.

Loved the book! It moves quickly between characters, giving you insight to their lives. It gives you a taste of what being married to a super hero would be like.
A very relatable story with some twists & turns. Some humor that have you laughing and a touch of sweet romance. You will quickly hate the villain & love the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone from young adult - adult.

Superheroes have regular problems, too.
I really enjoyed this fun story. I haven't read many superhero books with the romance element. As much as I love the MCU I couldn't wait to read this book. I thought the characters were great! I loved the setup for their world. I wish there were more books in this series by this author. I even enjoyed their writing style. I think some secondary characters may even have a story to tell.

Lighthearted Superhero Story (Yay!)
Fun , clean read about 3 different couples trying to handle marriage and super hero responsibilities. I really enjoyed that each couple faced different challenges and had different personalities. I did feel like some of that was a little muddled at the end, but it kind of worked. This book helped feed my superhero obsession without being filled with gore, sex, death, or drama.

The best book about superheroes wives
I have read many superhero comic books growing up and watched most of the cartoons, tv shows and movies but none of them have dealt with the fact that some were married. Cornell Schultz did a wonderful job with this story line. You will have to read now for yourself.

I found this book at a zoo of all places. (I think the author might work there?)
It's a cute little story of 3 wives as they support their super hero husbands. I liked the different roles for the wives. One of newly wed, one was a divorcee, etc. It felt like I was reading a book in the Incredibles universe. Hopefully there will be a sequel at some point. :)

Loved it
This unique plotline kept me enthralled throughout the story. I liked each super hero and their wives, each different and fun. While the story has more of a comic book feel than a thriller genre, that's okay with me because i don't want to read tense thrillers.
I would read more from this author.

An enjoyable romp through a world both familiar and new to comic book fans. Highly recommended if you are in the mood for fun instead of dark and gritty.
Reminds me of comics from a simpler time before everything had to be cosmic and complicated. In other words, Stan Lee at his best.

Thankful
The Superhero wife perspective is challenging and the position requires putting additional efforts into supporting the honorable work of the hero husband. Three different and similarly positioned women have to reason the takes on their situations. There is also a huge evil plot. Love is the foremost reason they are being strong while radically opposed.

Fun story about Ariana, Victoria, and Emma’s men spend more time saving the world than spending time at home. These wives want some semblance of a normal married life, but would settle for an uninterrupted meal together. The virtual voice was hard to listen to at times so I had to set the speed up to make the voice sound better.

A bit corny and a lot good.
It reads a lot like a DC comic would., but focused on the women and their problems - coping with men who spend all their time helping others to the detriment of their marriages.

Super
Well written. The story moves at a decent pace so boredom doesn't set in . It was a realistic struggle for the wives to come to terms with husbands and these were even harder as a superhero s mate. That's much more demanding and your story was spot on. Quite enjoyable.

Great Change of Point of View
It's not often you get to see what the other side of Super relationship look like. This is a great story covering just that view. Entertaining, enchanting, and addictive. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this book. I was able to sit down and read it in one weekend. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, enjoyed their story, and would love to hear more stories about them.
