Dear Adam

Rate this book
Things weren’t supposed to turn out this way. My story should have been different. Happier. Maybe in another life, it would’ve been. But, life isn’t a fairy tale, and the good guys don’t always win. I didn’t mean to cause anyone pain. I just wanted to end my own. The letter, his words—crushed me. It seemed as if there was no other way out. Nothing can change what happened, and nothing could have prepared me for what came after those two Dear Adam. ** This story contains suicidal material that may be sensitive to some readers. **

9 tears:
1. for loneliness
2. for rejection
3. for insults
4. for fear
5. for lowering self-esteem
6. for no support
7. for every bruise and whole pain
8. for hopelessness
9. for anyone who didn’t find another solution.

Ps. Reading Adam and Connor's story is worth all of these tears (or rather hectoliters). Highly recommend!

Sadly, a must read.

A powerful, emotional short story that with break your heart and fuel anger at a world so full of senseless hate! Sadly, this fictional story continues to be played out in the lives of so many precious people.
.....thank you Jaclyn Osborn, for making me feel the hurt.

CW: Suicide, bullying, homophobia

Heartbreaking and emotional, Dear Adam is a short but powerful story. It follows Adam and Connor, two young best friends who fall in love. The entire world seems to be stacked against them, however, and the story follows what happens to them. It was a hard read but brought many important issues front and center for the reader to question and think about. My heart broke for Adam and Connor and it horrifies me that this is a reality for many LGBTQ youth.

Oh man, after Axios, I should have realized this would be as well-written and heartbreaking as the summary suggests. Damn, Jaclyn. You broke my heart...and I'm writing this review MONTHS later but still feel the pain.

(Also, Brad Rakushin did a great job with the narration.)

WOW, what can I say about this story except BRAVO Jaclyn Osborn!!

extremely heartfelt and eye-opening... I'd love to know what happens to Adam....let's say after college or even
during to see how he is making progress in this mixed-up and at times very chaotic world.

I knew by the synopsis that this wasn't going to be a happy go lucky story but I wanted to read it because my 15 year old son told us a couple of months ago that he wants to have a sex change and my biggest fear is how people will treat him.

This book made me cry more than I have ever cried and devastated my heart. The subject matter is intense and the author did an outstanding job with it. Well written, full of raw emotion and outstanding characters make this a must read story. Thank you Jaclyn Osborn for writing this.

UPDATE:
I just reread this book again and it still plays with my emotions. It truly is a powerful read!!

Dear Adam is heartbreaking. It's a quick read but it really packs a punch.

These types of books are never easy to read but the message is one of hope and perseverance. That life gets better no matter what your situation. That even though the struggles in the moment seem like they may never end, that there will be a time when happiness takes back over and all is right.

It's weird that I would say I love this book because it's a hard book to read - but I loved it.

Life was short, way too short to have regrets. Those two words, “what if,” could haunt someone for the rest of their lives...

Hurt

A heartbreaking story of two beautiful boys who fell in love. One the jock, the other the geek. When they came out, the bullying consumed the jock.

Grief. Is there any emotion that is more all consuming? So many feelings are wrapped in that emotion. This author wrote a beautiful story that is highly recommended.

My heart was ripped out, shredded into little pieces, stomped on and then swept into the gutter. I have to go and change my pillowcase which is soaked in my tears . Amazing job, Jaclyn Osborn.

This is not a happy love story. Unfortunately this is a common occurance amongst queer teenagers. This is however a must read for awareness sake.
I'm giving it 5 stars because it's heartbreaking but all too real in a society filled with hate.

OMG....I have no idea how to write this review....This was just so hard to read.....Adam the way he reacts and copes with what happens is just heart-wrenching.....Connor was his first true love and his best friend....My heart broke for Connor but it broke more for Adam.....He truly needed such strength to get over that..A truly amazing book but it will break your heart and not put it back together x

2.5 stars rounded up for tackling this subject.

Yep, again I am in the minority. Had this been the first read by this author I may have given it 4 stars, but I had just finished slogging through Scars We Hide. Unfortunately this author's characters all act, react, touch, like, and think the same. Nothing set Adam apart from Peyton, despite them being nearly seven years difference in age. Same goes for Connor and Torin. And what is with all her characters having the same hair style?

Also, this author tends to get lost in her own stories often. In Dear Adam, within the first ten pages she mentioned Connor ate with the football team quite a bit, and Adam was okay with that. Then three pages later said Connor always ate with Adam during lunch. This was the first of four different spots where I was thrown out of the story by inconsistencies.

The writing is decent but not spectacular. I like a story that hums and crashes along, keeping me turning pages, and loving the characters. This one didn't do that.

Wow ! This is one of those stories that once you've read it it sticks with you, makes you take things into perspective, and see how other people's nasty, derogatory slurs, whether they're to do with someone's race, sexuality or beliefs can affect not only the person they're aimed at but the people closest to them too. This is the type of book that bullies should be MADE to read so as they can get an idea of the pain they're causing not just to the one they're aiming it at but of the people surrounding that person. Yes it's a far from easy read especially Connor's letter to Adam that broke my heart reading how much pain he was going through at not being accepted for who he was, who he loved. Truly amazing story by Jaclyn Osborn and one that will always hold a place in my heart.

Hello people, actually I have finished reading this one in so long ago. Never thought it has been 30 days since the last time I added the book to my current read, but never had a free time to post the review.

So I am here trying to write a very brief review about the book. And I apologize this one will not be my two sections review. Cz I kind of forgot about the story plot or the characters. I feel bad about it, it's my fault I know cz I've been minding my own works than my reading challenge.

Well, enough for the rambling. The first that popped up in my mind while reading this book was 'thank God, I could finally read this one considering the book is having that region limitation on amazon and I felt so damn lucky to get a chance to read it. Yayyy

Actually I read it in one sitting, hmm not really one sitting but within 24 hours, it made my eyes watery as well. Just the characters though. And over all, I was head over heels for the book. I wish I could reread this one sometime soon.

Relevant and heartbreaking.

“Do you ever wonder what it’s like to die?” - Connor.

No holds barred, bullying, homophobia, YA suicide. The snowball effect of others and the very real results.

This is not a sweet read. Adam and Connor’s story, while brief, is gut wrenching.

Invisible to his parents, in love with his best friend. Small town, and homophobia and the irreparable damage it brings.

“If you’ve never been in the dark, you could never appreciate the light.”

This is an all too familiar story, know your own limits. There’s no HEA for Adam and Connor. Heed the CW.

Haunting

Adam and Connors relationship and transition from friendship to love is so sweet, pure and real, it's everything around that is hurtful and hating.
This book takes your heart and tears it apart word by word in a a way that makes your heart hurt.
And my heart aches for everyone who has to live this nightmare for real.

Read the trigger warnings before reading because it's not a book with a HEA.
